Stygia, the Realm of the Damned.

After the Heavenly Pantheon was created there was an ambitious god who didn't wish to share power, and so he sought other sources of power. Maddened by his ambitions he created Stygia a nightmarish realm of chaos that countered the peace of Elysia, and within this realm he created daemons, along with the original Nine Devils. It wasn't too long however until his twisted creations overcame him, and locked him away in the frozen realm of Cania. His name is forever to be considered taboo among gods, devils, and mortals.

The Nine Devils rule over Stygia, and seek nothing more than to conquer Elysia and the gods. The almost eternal war that has been waged between the devils and the angels is known through out the universe as the Great Astral War.

It is split up into thousands of many layers which form a chaotic maze, although the largest of these layers are controlled by the Nine Devils.






Mephistopheles (http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h411/awean8/Mephistopheles.jpg) Supreme Ruler over Hell. Lord of Ambition. God of Sin. Being the ruling Emperor of Stygia, he is the most powerful of the Nine. His realm of Cania is the center of Stygia, and is as cold as his cruel heart. Master of plots, he plans every move millinia before they even happen. He has spies in every plane, constantly feeding him information so he can stay to date. Besides his cunning, he also has devastating fire magic that could melt the flesh off the bones of a seasoned army with one sweep.

Lucifer (http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h411/awean8/Lucifer.jpg) - He proudly holds the title Prince of all Demons, and there is without any doubt among both the Gods and the Devils that he is the greatest warrior in Stygia. He has been known to slaughter entire armies of angels, and on occasion opposing demons. It is said that when he fights his twin swords actually sing along with his movements. Many of the other Devils hold contempt for him, due to his title and power but most aren't willing to risk their lives to do anything about it.

Baal (http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h411/awean8/Baal.jpg) - The Lord of Murder, he has been plotting to kill Mephistopheles for several millenia but never really seizing any opportunity. He is the third most powerful and dwells in his twisted land of blood, and nightmarish horrors. When angered he will turn into a unrelenting personification of death and destruction.

Jezebeth (http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h411/awean8/Jezebeth.jpg) - Duchess over Prophecies, she can foretell the future, but is often unwilling to divulge the entire truth to those who want it. She also has powerful psionics that allows to enslave most lesser demons.

Belial (http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h411/awean8/Belial.jpg)- Since he was once a lesser demon who had managed to overthrow his Devil tyrant he is one of the more civil of the other Nine. He is polite, but will strike hard when the need arises. His power manifests itself as a powerful guardian spirit that never truly leaves him.

Beezlebub (http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h411/awean8/Beezlebub.jpg) - The Lord of the Flies. Master of plots within plots. He has the ability to see through any conspiracy, and is able to foretell the persons motive allowing him to take measures against such things.

Deumos (http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h411/awean8/Deumos.jpg) - The Queen of lies. She governs over the succubi, and incubi. She has strong seductive charms that even the most strong willed will find difficult to resist.

Azrael (http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h411/awean8/Azrael.jpg)- Lord of Fear. He represents nightmares, and within his abhorrent realm lies some of the strangest frightening creatures to ever walk the planes.

Samael (http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h411/awean8/Samael.jpg)- He is the largest of all the Devils, while at the same time being the least intelligent. Although obviously biologically reptilian, he acts a bit more like a canine even acting as the pack leader to all the hellhounds.

Ruler(s): Thanatos & Crete
Geography: It is a chaotic realm which is the top most layer of Stygia making it the only one with any sense of an authentic sky without the use of powerful enchantments. It is a gray world, where even the beautiful meadows that grow on the north side of the River Styx seem dulled. The south side of the river is mostly dead rock and crag, where Thanatos and Crete hold court and judge the dead that traverse through Limbo. The river itself is black and is filled with souls who have not yet been judged.

Used almost as a massive bridge to cross the River of Styx the great trade city of Nyx is heavily populated by various inter-planar races. It is a usual peaceful city where even though most volatile races can get along in harmony, or suffer at the hands of the local authority.

History: This is a realm that connect the three primary planes. Stygia, Elysia, and the Material. This is where Thanatos with the help of the serpent king, Crete, are duty bound to forever judge the dead. It is said that when Thanatos had first seen the never ending flock of newly dead souls traverse through his realm that he cried for he mourned them all.

Name: Bolgia
Ruler(s): Duemos
Geography: Laying below Limbo this is a mountainous realm that is large enough to hold the Ocean of Achile like a continent sized bowl. The queen of this layer erects massive cities from out of the waters with all the buildings bearing terrible resemblances to either the phallus or the clitoris.

The ocean is named after an almost god-like warrior who had risked the lives of his fellow countrymen during a time of war in order to take revenge on his commanding officer who had raped his lover. Achile now wanders this realm constantly as misanthrope merely blowing with the harsh wind. The Ocean of Achile itself connects to the River of Styx. A terrible wind constantly blows making sea travel nearly impossible however.
History: It is said that Duemos, the Queen of Lust once had a true love long ago when the Mad God had still ruled. Back than she wasn't as depraved before she had kept her love a secret in order to conserve her power.

However, Baal had soon learned of this information and not only had him killed but also tricked Duemos into eating him thinking it was her normal meal. Since than she has abandoned the idea of love, and is now completely indiscriminate as her body is now fully dedicated to empty passion. Baal and Duemos have formed an intense rivalry due to that event. Her succubi tend to kill Baal's legions of undead on sight.

Name: Ciacco
Ruler(s): Samael
Geography: It is a filthy polluted realm where it rains acid and foul slush which builds to create mucous mountains and lakes of muck. The great city of Sordes is built here but the constant weight of the city causes it to continually sink into the swamps of slime. The constant efforts of millions of slaves of different captured races prevent it from doing so for if they do not they'll be crushed in the process. That is the same reason why the foundation of the city is completely made of corpses.
History: Samael was the first and greatest of all the hell-dogs. He once had had three sons who grew to absolutely ferocious in nature. His sons were destroyers on the battle field and eventually pride in their own battle prowess had gotten the better of them, and they eventually challenged their father who promptly slew all three of them. Using the flesh of their remaining corpses he sowed them all together creating Cerberus, who now guards this layer of Stygia forever loyal to his father.

Ruler(s): Baal
Population: all those who have died in violence
Geography: Phlegethon is a realm of bone, blood, steel, and fire. In the center of Phlegethon lies the city of Carrion, where Baal sits on a throne of iron in a castle built out of the bones of those killed in violence. Surrounding Carrion is a lake of blood and fire where the souls of the vanquished burn in eternal agony, their screams echoing across the realm without end. Spires of gore and metal disrupt the flat fields where the soil is made completely of corpses, still writhing in their final moments of pain.
Climate: Phlegethon is hot and miserable, firestorms lighting the sky and blood taking the place of rain. The very air is a poisonous fume of corpse gas, the smell of rot and burning flesh filling the air with its heavy scent.
History: When the first life was taken in violence and malice, that was when Phlegethon was created. Ever since that first genesis of murder, Baal has been able to build his realm with nearly unlimited resources as the petty wars of man filled his kingdom with no short supply of corpses.

Rage Leviathan (http://images.wikia.com/dragonage/images/3/3a/Pride_Demon_concept_art.JPG) - the elite guard of Carrion.
Wraith (http://trolr.com/wp-content/gallery/heroes-of-newerth-concept-art/sand-wraith.jpg) - vengeful spirits of the dead who are given life again by the vengeful spirit of Baal. They must take a life a day to keep from returning to the lake of fire.
Vessels of the Damned (http://pixelrapture.com/images/Undead_Warriors_Wrath_Small.jpg) - masses of soul-less flesh and armor. Sometimes the Vessel may be a walking construct of muscle and bone, other times it may just be a possessed suit of armor. Either way, they are slow and purposeful constructs of Baal with a singular purpose. Vessels make the bulk of Baal's massing army. Baal can construct these Vessels in the Material Plane in a place that was witness to great violence once. (ie the Grey Planes)

Population: 1 (Varies)
Geography: The Altar is a small floating structure That appears in all realms of Stygia. It only appears when One's desire to be forgiven for one's sins are so great that they actively represent a threat to the guards of the Stygia.
Climate: depends on the mood of one who makes it to the Altar
History: Created by Ae in an attempt to siphon the Devils strongest souls from Stygia

Name: Abaddon

Ruler(s): Lucifer

Geography: A desert wasteland where the war torn ruins of the scarred city of Dis rises above the sands constantly being attacked by various hordes of both angels and daemons all to be decimated before it's walls.

History: As far as anyone can remember Lucifer has ruled in Abaddon, and so no one other than Mephistopheles knows his full story. Some believe that he was one of the original angels to fall from Elysia with the Mad-God only to betray him. Others believe that he slew the last ruler of Abaddon and claimed the throne for himself. Whatever they believe it is a known fact that the city of Dis is impregnable with him at the walls. His perfected fighting prowess has garnered him the title "Prince of Demons" which spurns the jealousy of all the other Stygians.

The irony being that due to his power he has succumbed to a growing apathy that causes the other eight high devils to feel uneasy. Lucifer can sometimes be seen wandering his deserts where only Ae knows what he's doing. Due to his complacency he often doesn't care for the business concerning the Gods, and Devils.
