You find yourself in lush forest. Thick and opulent with vegetation, teeming with wide pine trees, hundreds of feet high, with a thickness that a normal person could not wrap their arms about. It’s quiet and peaceful, as if holding its breath in anticipation of what’s to occur here.

The lighting is dim, as the trees reach into the sky, covering what little light the sun would provide. The ground littered with small ferns, and small sandy spots through out. There is a slight clearing about twenty feet away, where the sunshine can be seen to be just a little brighter. It's only about the size of a large family room. There is grass in that one spot. Low, but sumptuous and bright green as if defying the forest in its very existence.

The ground is dirt, soft as if it's never been tread on by anything larger than a squirrel.

Thomas walks through the forest, wanting to see what is there, having never been in the place before. Carrying two of his swords, his tower shield, and vambrace mounted crossbow. Planning on using the crossbow out here for target practice on a tree, and also having brought a few darts to use for target practice as well. As the darts lay in his right pocket, he continues to walk through the forest, to the opening and stops. Looking around at his surroundings, he decides to use this place for target practice for now. He takes out the darts and begins throwing them at one of the thin trunked trees, only trying to get it to hit the trunk.

Dirt. That rich aroma of life, teeming and growing all around her. It had a musky smell, the earth. A smell that wound its way around her skin and seemed to give her a sense of calm. The earth all around her, in its never ending cycle of growth and decay, that’s what Calliope awoke to.

She knew before opening her eyes that she had been once again summoned to another battle. It always gave her a certain thrill to know that she had been whisked away to the next unknown, to once again fight in a championship arena. Where would she be deposited this time? Who, or, the better question being, what would she have to battle? Since she hadn’t lost a contest yet, she always felt a small measure of trepidation at the start.

Opening her eyes at last, she found that she was lying on the ground in an expansive forest. She had been deposited this time on a bed of waist high ferns growing up toward the sunlight underneath a blanket of giant pine trees. Enormous pine trees that reached hundreds of feet high. The ferns had a long way to go to catch up. She hadn’t moved yet, not a flicker with the exception of opening her eyes. Gazing up through the blanket of green, she could see the sun, indirectly through the branches above. That brought a small frown to her lips, her brow knitted together briefly in annoyance. The Sun. That would be a problem. Direct sunlight on her would weaken her abilities in the upcoming battle. well.. I'll just have avoid that.. won’t I she murmured silently to herself, continuing to gaze upwards refusing to move and shield her eyes from the brightness of it.

She was about to sit up, when she heard the noise. Thunk, Thunk, Thunk. Somewhere off to her left. It wasn’t footsteps. It was the distinct sound of something hitting wood. A knife perhaps? Or maybe a sword, she pondered. Either way, she knew it was time to get up. Time to battle, the grin came to her lips unchecked.

Sitting up slowly, she cautiously peered over the edge of the ferns, she had been given a small advantage and felt no need to give it away, just yet. Turning her head to scan in the direction of the sounds she heard, she saw a slight movement, a few hundred feet away, beside a clearing space.

Focusing her gaze to the direction of the movements, she realized it was a man. The appearance was human, she thought but she couldn’t quite tell, just yet. Lifting her head a little further up, above the plants she sniffed the air, pulling it deep into her lungs. “Lycan” she hissed, tasting the animal on her tongue, her face instantly crunching into an angry glower, her teeth flashing into a silent snarl.

Knowing that it wouldn’t take long for him to see her, she sprang up, her hands instantly curling into attack mode.

Hearing the rustling of the vegetation caused by the woman nearby, Thomas stops what he is doing and turns around looking in that direction. Seeing the woman, he just stands there a couple of seconds before he realize that she is a vampire. As soon as he comes to the realization, he quickly lifts up the tower shield, aiming it as best he can while pulling the trigger as soon as it gets to the right height. Once the trigger is pulled, the disk is launched out of the hollow scutum; the recoil from firing the shield pushes him back and causing him to lose balance and fall since he had tried to react so quickly. Thomas had not given himself enough time to properly brace himself from the recoil before he pulled the trigger. If the disk did not come into contact with the woman, it will keep going and most likely hit the trunk of a tree and possibly cause it to fall, since there are not many trees with very thick trunks around. If the tree falls, it would allow for a little bit more sunlight to enter the area as one of the light’s obstructions would be removed.

Calliope saw him move and if not for her super speed, a trademark of her kind the battle would have ended there as his aim was good, even in his haste. Since she was prepared for anything, especially his swiftness she was able to escape relatively unscathed. As she threw herself to the right in a blur of movement that no human eye would have been able to follow, the object that he shot at her managed to scratch her left arm. It was a decent slice across her bicep area. Not too deep, but enough to cut her and leave a gash, a bloody slice. An injury that within a few minutes was all but gone. A few drops of blood against her pale skin the only indication that she was even touched. More of an annoyance than anything. It certainly didn't slow her down in her movements.

As she threw herself out of the way, her body automatically pulled into a tuck and she rolled to end behind one of the larger trees, springing up the second she stopped. The disk having hit her then ricocheted across the space to hit another tree dead center, and proceeded to drive directly through the center of the tree, severely damaging the tree in the process. She cast a quick glance at it, watching as it started to creak in the motion of falling. Grimacing at the prospect of the sunshine streaming down within a few second time she quickly moved to get herself further away from the falling tree, and at the same time moving towards him. Getting herself behind the next tree on her right, positioning herself a few feet closer to his position, while keeping herself secured behind the next tree, using what protection she could for now. She pulled her sword from its scabbard as she moved, the slight hum of the metal sliding out of its holder an unmistakable sound to anyone having been in any battle.

“You’re fast pup. I’ll give you that” she ground out in a casual voice, knowing he would hear her. Let’s see just how fast you really are… she finished to herself. She quickly moved to bring herself back into the open, while at the same time throwing her sword full tilt in his direction without a moment of hesitation. She knew she might be out of range for the full effects of the magic to take hold, but shrewd in the knowledge that even if she was out of range, it would do damage and possibly give her time to get in closer to him. She had to get closer if she was going to disable that weapon he used on her.

She charged forward, barely a few steps behind the moving sword heading straight for him, a blood curdling scream on her lips.

I put my scutum to the ground to prevent me from falling further and quickly get myself back in an upright standing position, using the time that the female is dodging my sht and moving from tree to tree to do this. Hearing her scream, he turned as fast as he could to be in a position where she would be facing his left side. While moving into that position, he grabbed Ignis and drew it from it's hilt as he moved his left arm to block the sword, his scutum placed on his right arm. As ignis is drawn, the flint inside of the scabbar caused the blade to ignite in a blueish flame. His arm stops the sword from damaging him because of the jacket he is wearing. The barbed and razor wire wrapped around the jacket would be the secondary part of the jacket's defensive design against impacts from blades. The primary part of the jacket's defensive design were the quarter inch thick, inch long and wide metal plates that are inside of the jacket all connected by a series of thin metal wires. Fabric has been sewn over the metal plates on the inside of the jacket to prevent easy identification of the plates if any outside identification at all. The reason for the blue colored flames would be that he is currently using alcohol to fuel his flaming sword. Once the blade stops on the armored jacket, I bring my arm down to slash at the woman's neck in a diagonal way, pushing her blade away from me as I do. But at the same time, I turn my body in a way as if to face her, putting my right leg out, spinning on my left leg, in an attempt to kick at her legs to cause her to fall.

Calliope watched incredulous that her sword had not done any damage at all, and it just caused her to be even more furious than she already was. The Spells on the sword were designed to cause damage. They were written by the ancients of her kind, handed down to generations and generations of fighters. They were designed to do the most damage in battle. Hand to hand combat was the preferred way to use the sword, but throwing it should have done something to him. Vowing bloodshed, and soon, she knew she would retrieve the sword before long and remedy that. He would feel the bite of the blade, of this she had no doubt.

With her lips curled in anger and she launched herself at him as soon as she was within striking distance, flying toward him at startling speed avoiding his outstretched leg. She hit him full force, in essence tackling him, driving her knee into his chest, her arms firmly around his neck, swiveling as to avoid his sword slashing toward her. The sheer velocity at which she had launched herself at him, caught him unaware, and she knocked them both to the ground at their feet. The noise was deafening as they both crashed and tumbled across the grass.

Not losing her grip, her nails, sharp as daggers and twice as fast found the edge of his neckline as they fell. In one frenzy filled motion, her fingers found purchase at his neck, and ripped at his armor. Her super human strength tore a large section of it away, effectively exposing his neck and shoulder. Without hesitation her nails found their target in his skin, and sliced as they flew. She easily tore into his skin now that it had been bared. She gave him three large blade-like slices across his upper peck area. The gashes immediately opened to cover them both in splashes of blood as they tumbled to a stop, him on his back.

Letting go of him, she purposely rolled again, and bounced unsteadily to her feet, glancing about for her sword, hoping to retrieve it before he could stand.

As the woman tackled him, her skin is pierced and sliced as she comes into contact with the barbed wire, razor wire, and thorn vines that wrap around his jacket. Her hand is also pierced and sliced as she tears through the armor. As soon as he gets the chance, he gets up to a stand, having dropped the sword from the tackle, the flaming sword catching the grass and twigs on fire; the cuts on his neck slowing him down a bit as he gets up. He then reaches for a saw blade hanging from his belt and loads it into the scutum as she looks for her sword. He then raises the scutum, this time taking one or two seconds to aim at her sternum, brace himself for the recoil and fires. The recoil forces him to take a step back.

She heard it before she saw it, and it was by sheer force of will that she threw herself to the ground before it hit her. Had she taken that split second to look for the sound, the blade would have been imbedded into her chest, battle over. As it was, the deadly blade that he shot at her came within a hairs breath of her neck as she flung herself down to the ground. This was becoming a habit, diving onto the ground, her mind whispered to her and she screamed silently in her head.

Grabbing her sword she quickly scrabbled back to her feet, seeing the flames flickering across the ground from his sword. “Nice going” she growled indicating toward the flames on the ground. She barely noticed that her hands were starting to heal. One of the small perks of being a member of the undead, the scratches and slices on her hands would close without much fuss. The blood was already rapidly drying on her pale skin, the only remnants of the wounds. It would take a distinct and direct hit for him to do actual damage to her, and she wasn’t about to let that happen any time soon.

Standing in a battle stance, ignoring the encroaching flames, she thrust her sword at him with a battle cry.

After seeing her dive, Thomas Immediately drew Quietus, knowing he had no other weapon to use at the time since he just shot his last disk. Hearing her battle cry and seeing her ruch towards him with her sword thrusting, Thomas raises his sword to level with hers, but in a particular position. When her blade gets close enough, Thomas locates one of the two holes in his sword's blade to allow her sword's blade to pass through it. As soon as the first inch of her sword passes through the hole in his, he moves his sword to his right, moving hers with his as it is pushed be the walls of the hole. At the same time of pushing his sword to the right, he turns his blade so that it is now in a horazontal position. One this is done he immediately pushes his sword's blade towards her neck, also pushing his body against hers in an attempt to make her stumble and fall backwards where he'd fall ontop of her. This being so that the weight of all his equiptment on his body would help push the blade to her neck and decapitate her.

Feeling her sword essentially stuck within his weapon, she realized that it would be useless against him in an attack, and so she pushed it with all her inhuman strength toward him, and released it. Bringing him off balance for a split second, as he hadn’t expected her to do that. She spun herself toward the left, dropping into a semi crouch as she did. In one swift and practiced movement, she scooped her leg toward him, and hooked his leg with hers.

Using the building momentum that she had gained, she kicked his leg out from beneath him, and scrabbled backwards away from him, crowing in delight when it worked and he fell backward. Grinning ear to ear, and crowing with delight when he landed on his butt with a loud “ompfh” the weapons clattering to the ground beside him, useless. She pitched herself back up into a standing position, and took a giant leap backward, out of his reach, the smile widening across her lips which each passing second.
