Yes, this is my art thread. Unfortunately, as most of my drawings fail, and come out horribly, I hate to show most of them. I will show you my art though. Be prepared to run at the horribleness.

Fail art? Wow. That's very harsh on yourself is it not? Maybe the attitude about the artwork is fail, but it's easy to get discouraged, trust me. I do know about set backs.

Sometimes, we just need to step back & look at what we are doing & ask ourselves if we are satisfied with what we have produced as an artist. If your answer is yes, simply move along to the next project immediately. If your answer is no, try to finish what you have & find references to work from.

Understanding the subject you wish to illustrate & retaining it to memory is a chore of itself. The next hardest thing is actually training your hand to make the desired shapes you want it to. Coupled with perception of what it is you are working towards & what ways you want to illustrate it is what being an artist is all about. I remember when I first realized the stick figures I was drawing wasn't able to show the detail's of He-Man's red iron cross upon his chest harness.

This was back when He-Man & the Masters of the Universe first aired on TV & it defeated me every turn attempting to replicate my favorite show in stick figure theater art style. LOL, it wasn't until that Christmas when I got a few toys I was able to see where my errors were at. Keeping the original boxes & the comics that came with them I studied the anatomy a little at a time. I finally had graduated out of stick figure art into 2D art of some kind LOL.

I still realized little things like legs were not arms backwards (even though they kinda are). But my legs had the look of arms for awhile, then I finally corrected that, & for awhile I had He-Man & Skeletor down to a science. Then I went into drawing robots every where due to Voltron, both versions, & Transor Z (Mazinger Z). Transformers totally turned me out into a long robot love I finally recovered from in about 5th grade, maybe 6th of Chicago Public Schools. I guess I was about 10 or 11 years old at the time & I hadn't draw any kind of woman since my Mom, Dad, & me were all stick figures walking to school before my epic Masters of the Universe revelation & robot craze set in.

So began another quest of illustrating females, & let me tell you. Women are not men in drag. Were share basic anatomical structures, most of the same organs, skeletons look pretty similar. But men & women are different LOL. Drawing either is a feat of itself, & I have went through all kinds of phases of illustrating both. The best advice for anyone who really cares about drawing as their medium of expression or even the most serious & dedicated art student should know is practice your craft. Everyday, no matter what. If you can hold a pencil/pen, doodle & draw. Use other artist's work as reference material until you understand the basics, & often time using a "How To Draw..." book is the best self help you can give yourself.

I used to make this mistake all the time so I will put it out here. Do not attempt to draw a finished picture first! Every successful illustrator renders a loose blueprint & concept first, & layers on top of the very basic framework. If you see a problem with your picture, it was a problem with the frame you drew first. Details will eventually come to you, but understanding what you like about a style of art or the way an artist has drawn an image, helps you to make the right choices while drawing, & you will find yourself picking the things you like & do not like while drawing & improving them while you render. The frame of your art should always come first & is a critically necessary step in being a quality illustrator.

Please avoid tracing paper & attempting to carbon copy an image while drawing it out. This is a lazy excercise that won't commit it to memory like viewing your source, then drawing & comparing the two. Once someone asks you to illustrate something that isn't there... your limitations will be challenged & many people fold under this kind of scrutiny. It's best to develope a critical eye, & artistic appreciation of style & form, & learning how to capture the image in your imagination & illustrate it for others to appreciate.

Never give up. I spent many a sweaty late nights over a desk & hot lamp scrawling out images of faces, hands, feet, torsos, limbs, figures & other neat things for hours at a time. Many pictures were destroyed & thrown away which I considered trash. An error of judgement really. Keeping the worst of your pictures is a good way to remind yourself of where you were & how far you have come as an artist & illustrator. Try to keep frustration in check, & use the same sheet of paper on the same side as the fail picture. Render next to it & see what you want to do differently before beginning a new frame work & starting fresh. It is the most helpful advice I have.

But hell, my art is not that great either... if it was I would have a job as an illustrator like I wanted to do. But hey, life has its breaks & I made bad calls. ;) Stay focused & work hard, like anything, if you practice at it & become dedictated you will improve. If it's just a passing fancy & a hobby, it will fade once the labor gets intense or you get bored with it. Be kind to yourself & others. Be strong for yourself & those that need it.

So... I was looking through my room and found my old sketchbook. I, unfortunately, have no landscape pictures that I have done in the past. But! I do have some of my better drawings from grade seven to grade ten area. I realized that I have actually improved in drawing capabilities. >:3

I love the ideas you have in your pictures and I can clearly see you put a lot to create your pictures.

If you want, I could give you some guides to help you with the body parts. I think you have what it takes to become really good if you keep on practicing.
