BUSINESS IS WAR

Klaxons wailed. Amber lights swept angry circles across the ceiling. Guards were sprinting from all over the building to respond to the alert, but by the time they got there it would be far too late for rogue scientist Lisa Asari.

Through her fear, a small voice at the back of Lisa’s mind said, almost mockingly, So much for a safe house. There were two men with her; Sonbushi bodyguards who had not left her side since her arrival, but they gripped their submachine guns with whitening fingers - like her, they knew what was coming.

There was a trio of short, sharp gunshots, followed by a guard being flung bodily round the elbow of the corridor ahead. He rebounded off the opposite wall, leaving a red streak against the mirrored steel before flopping raggedly to the floor, his assault rifle clattering across the tiles beside him. Stepping over the body, one after the other, came the Agents.

There were four of them; three men and a woman, all dressed in long, hooded overcoats. Their coats rippled as they walked, every line and fold accentuated by the reflective walls to either side. Their hoods were thrown back, revealing stern faces without a hint of fear or empathy.

Lisa’s two guards fired, uselessly. The short snarls of their machine guns were deafening in the confined space. The lead Agent was hit, but he barely even staggered. There were no bright puffs of blood from exit wounds; in fact, there was barely any blood at all. Beneath the Agent’s open overcoat, through the small red holes in his shirt, Lisa could see the tell-tale glint of silver metal.

In response to the ineffectual fusillade, two of the other Agents raised heavy black pistols. Lisa’s bodyguards snapped backwards without a sound, the backs of their skulls coming apart as the bullets punched neat holes in their foreheads. The four Agents strode forward without pause, their blank eyes now fixed on Lisa. Lisa stumbled backwards into the dead-end store room, her hands clawing at the pockets of her EuroCorp lab coat. If she had been anyone else she would be dead already, but she knew that these Agents would be under orders from her former employers to capture, not to kill.

Fuck that! she thought savagely as her hand closed around the object she had been looking for. She pulled out the small chrome disc, holding it towards the advancing Agents like some sort of futile weapon as she stabbed at the button on its side.

The effect was immediate. All four Agents stumbled, falling sideways against the walls. Their weapons clattered to the floor as hands flew instead to the backs of their necks, gripping them in sudden pain. Lisa saw the lead Agent blinking furiously, disorientated, as if he had been suddenly awakened from a dream. Another stood frozen on the spot, his eyes fixed on the mirrored wall. He was still staring numbly at his own reflection when the belated reinforcements arrived. Lisa ducked for cover as a hail of bullets tore into the Agents, battering them backwards with the impacts until all four finally sank down in smoking, unrecognisable heaps.

Several miles away, in a dimly-lit control room where the EuroCorp logo glittered from every surface, executive Roberto De Luca swore as the command link to all four of his cyborg Agents was suddenly cut off and refused to re-engage. This was followed mere seconds later by the abrupt flattening of the Agents’ bio-signs.

De Luca shouted at the two compu-techs seated in front of him, who protested back wildly. The only calm figure in the room was De Luca’s bodyguard, another black-clad Agent with a combat shotgun cradled in his hands and several more weapons concealed inside his long overcoat. Eventually De Luca realised that swearing would do nothing to change the situation, and that he was only delaying the inevitable. He swallowed hard, and tapped a key on his terminal. A light flickered green as the connection was established.

“Marco Xenakis.” came the familiar commanding baritone.

“Sir, it’s Roberto De Luca over in Warsaw ops. We’ve got a problem.”

There was a pause. “What kind of problem?”

“My control signal cut out. Agents Rautio, Jones, Farren and Zerjowi are all down. Negative on target acquisition.”

Another pause. “I see.”

Behind De Luca, his Agent twitched as a new command link overrode the one currently running through his CHIP. De Luca was too busy trying to explain himself to notice.

“We’ll find her!” he said, “We’ll send another team and get her back!”

“Yes.” agreed the voice, “We will.”

Executive Roberto De Luca barely had time to register the cold muzzle of his bodyguard’s shotgun pressing itself against the back of his head before it blew his brains out against the far wall.

At the head of a long oval table in a boardroom surrounded on all sides by bomb-proof glass windows, chief executive Marco Xenakis slumped back in his chair and cut the power to his holographic terminal in disgust. A few seconds later he leaned forward again, and when he addressed the twin rows of executives seated in front of him his voice was apparently free of stress.

“Okay.” he said, looking at his subordinates through steepled fingers, “I trust you’re all aware just how big of a problem this is for us all. So let’s correct it. Engel?”

“Sir?” said a smartly-dressed woman seated third from Xenakis’ left.

“First thing’s first. We’re going to need some replacement Agents.”

******

Hi everybody, and welcome to this collaborative effort between myself and X. With the reimagined version of the classic cyberpunk strategy game Syndicate coming out soon, we felt like setting a RP in the dark near-future of the original game. The year is 2080, and business is war.

The painful transition of energy sources as the world’s oil reserves dwindled came to a head in 2056, where international markets crashed and world governments were forced to privatise hundreds of traditionally public services in order to counter spiralling debt. Before the crash the profits of the largest corporations such as EuroCorp and Sonbushi had rivalled the GDP of small countries. Now they owned small countries, and corporate influence was felt at the highest levels of world government.

The damage of the oil age has already been done. Rising sea levels cause catastrophic flooding; hurricanes generated by an increasingly violent atmosphere batter the world’s coastlines; carbon dioxide built up in the air pelts down on overcrowded cities as acid rain. But through it all business continues, and while there is business, the corporations continue to thrive. In a climate of general misery and depression, EuroCorp perfected the CHIP. Inserted into the neck, the CHIP stimulated the brain stem to alter the user’s every perception of the outside world, offering hope to millions by numbing their senses to the decay and turmoil around them. Incidentally, it also rendered the user more open to suggestion, and gave EuroCorp the perfect tool with which its marketing boards could manipulate the populace.

The CHIP straddled an uneasy line between a gadget and a drug, and like any new and potent drug, control of the CHIP meant control of the people. The corporations warred among themselves, desperate to monopolise CHIP production, but their thirst for power left them open to infiltration. With fortunes earned through pirating CHIP technology, international crime syndicates such as the Mexican cartels, the Bratva, the Triads and the Yakuza began bribing and murdering their way into corporate boardrooms. Within a decade, it was not the corporations but the syndicates that were in control of every transaction across the globe - criminal or otherwise.

Under the syndicates, inter-corporate warfare became physical as well as economic. World governments continually promised crackdowns on this so-called “gang violence”, but the syndicate corporations held all the economic cards; controlling vital utilities such as domestic power, and commanding enough money to bribe almost any police force. Thus the promises to bring order to the streets were seldom more than empty words, and the true culprits remained hidden behind the corporations’ veneer of respectability. Beyond the view of the desensitised population, the secret war between the crime syndicates continues, spearheaded by the next generation of soldier: custom-built cyborg Agents.

Our story begins in just one small area of this global cold war. The eastern European zone is one of the hotbeds of conflict between EuroCorp and Sonbushi as they try to expand their influence east and west respectively, and something has occurred that may tip the balance. After decades of research and testing, a company called Fusiontech is about to commission the world’s first nuclear fusion power plant. EuroCorp’s energy division, which already owns most of the power plants in Europe, is very interested in securing this new technology, as its commercialisation has the potential to solve the ongoing world energy crisis, not to mention generate massive publicity and profits for the owning company. However, Julian Auffret - the chairman of Fusiontech - knows exactly what a goldmine he is sitting on and has stubbornly resisted all negotiations of a buy-out from both EuroCorp and its rivals. The executives of EuroCorp Energy are losing patience, and the time has come for more direct action.

But EuroCorp has another problem. British-Indian researcher Lisa Asari, one of EuroCorp’s scientists specialising in CHIP technology, has gone missing. She was an outspoken critic of the more subversive properties of the CHIP, and after working in secret on some unknown project she has abandoned the company and fled, vowing to end “the evil of CHIP control”. The EuroCorp executives don’t know what ridiculous stunt she is planning, but they want her back, if only to prevent her from selling secrets to EuroCorp’s rivals.

That’s where you come in.

Each PC will be a civilian who has just been recruited as an Agent. Agents are the ultimate weapon that the syndicates turn to when economic and political pressure isn’t enough. They are cybernetically-enhanced assassins who have had their memories wiped and been fitted with a modified CHIP known as an IPA which allows EuroCorp executives to monitor and direct their every action.

Though they retain a degree of self-awareness and autonomy, the IPA chip renders Agents physically unable to disobey orders from their designated operator. The IPA is also capable of stimulating the brain stem to flood the Agent’s system with adrenaline or other hormones, meaning that even an unmodified Agent can perform extreme feats of strength and speed.

As for how the PCs wind up as Agents I’ll leave up to you, but the usual modus operandi of EuroCorp is to either sucker new employees without living relatives into signing something they shouldn’t, or simply kidnapping individuals off the streets - preferably individuals who no-one is going to miss.

Note that this is a suggested guideline rather than something we expect you to rigidly adhere to.

Original Name: The character's name before they were kidnapped and turned into an Agent.

Age: Self explanatory

Nationality: There's been a lot of emigration and cultural exchange over the last 100 years, so although the setting is eastern Europe, feel free to create characters hailing from anywhere in the world.

Appearance: Description, picture or both, whichever you prefer. You'll be pleased to know that cool trenchcoats are mandatory, due to acid rain.

Personality: EuroCorp’s mind-wiping process isn’t perfect, and most Agents retain a little of their former personality, as well as some of their stronger memories.

History: A brief overview of the character’s life prior to being abducted by Eurocorp. What was their job? Did they have family, friends, a partner? Did they own a CHIP?

New Name: The designation given to the new Agent by EuroCorp. This will take the form of "Special Agent X" where X is a common surname.

Assigned Weapons: This may change throughout the RP, as the operators will often give Agents new weapons for specific missions, and upload the relevant training programs into their brains.

Assigned Upgrades: Pick a few from X's list. We encourage you to think about what role you want your Agent to perform, and choose their bionics accordingly.

I believe my co-GM will be along shortly with your a la carte menu of weapons and cybernetics, as well as our first character…

I would be delighted to bring along the arsenal.

Modifications:

Bionic legs - Replacement legs that use advanced hydraulics to raise movement speed and strength above that of an average human. These generally come in a pair.

Chest cage - The ribcage is either reinforced or replaced with stainless steel and a mesh is placed under the muscles to enclose the internal organs completely. It is common to also replace or reinforce the pelvis as well, especially if the subject also has bionic legs.

Heart regulator/defibrillator - This device is rather like a pacemaker, but it helps to regulate the agent's heartbeat to either give their muscles and brain more oxygen, or keep them level headed should their heart rate rise too high. The device can also act as a defibrillator if the agent's heart stops and they can in fact be revived, this action will cause the device to go through a recharge period, or with repeated use cause it to burn out entirely.

Bionic arms - Replacement arms that use advanced hydraulics to increase movement speed and strength above that of an average human. These can come in variants, from lighter models to more heavily armored models. They can also be installed incrementally (i.e. hand, then later lower arm, then upper arm)

Ocular enhancement - One or both eyes are replaced with enhanced robotic versions. Usually these enhancements allow vision in different spectra, such as night vision or thermal vision, or offer scope-like optics.

Neural implants:

Coordination - This implant increases the flow rate of neural signals, allowing for increased reaction times and sensory processing ability. Many agents with extensive modifications are given this implant to increase their effectiveness.

Sensory perception - Augmented sensory lobes in the brain allow for more complex analysis of sound, smell, taste, touch, and sight without the augmentation of sensory organs. This implant does not produce the same results as an actual replacement, but it is a more balanced upgrade.

Processing - An implant in the temporal lobe allows the brain to make more calculations by increasing RAM (to use computer terms). The result is faster thought processes, leading to increased powers of deduction and problem solving abilities.

Mass storage - An implant at the base of the skull, essentially an external hard drive, provides more storage space for more detail and content and easy memorization skills.

Weapons:

CHIP-Hack - A signal transmitter/receiver most commonly mounted on the agent's hand or arm that allows them to hack into others' CHIPs and learn information or control them to a degree. Access is currently restricted to civilian-grade CHIPS.

Pistol - A standard .45 caliber pistol, each clip holds 15 rounds. It is a short range weapon that can sometimes be pushed into medium range. Can be fitted with a silencer at the cost of accuracy. This weapon is minimum armament, usually a last resort.

UZI - Standard 9mm automatic hand-gun, clips hold 50 rounds. Medium range and versatile. Can be fitted with a silencer at the cost of reduced accuracy, can also be equipped with a folding shoulder-stock for increased stability.

Assault Rifle - Fires 7.62x39mm rounds, clips hold 30 rounds. Medium to long range and extremely versatile. Can be fitted with a sight, a fore-grip or under-barrel shotgun (1 shell, can be reloaded), and a suppressor at the cost of accuracy.

Shotgun - A 12-gauge pump-action shotgun, stores 12 shells. Close range and extremely deadly. Can be loaded with buckshot or slugs.

Sniper Rifle - Sniper rifles are medium or large guns with extreme range and accuracy. They come in .50 and .308 varieties, and come standard with a long range scope. Can also be equipped with a silencer at the cost of some range and a bi-pod to increase accuracy. Clips are 10 rounds.

**RESTRICTED ACCESS**

Flamethrower - An area of effect weapon capable of clearing areas in record time. It projects a stream of incendiary jelly that coats objects in flames as the fuel cooks off. This weapon has a large tank of jelly and is very heavy, it should not be used without weight-bearing modifications.

Mini-gun - A multi-barrel machine gun with devastating rate of fire, ammunition comes in strips of 500. This weapon occasionally jams and is also extremely heavy.

Las-gun - An assault rifle sized laser with a wide beam emitter, it is battery powered and can fire five blasts on one battery before needing recharged. It is devastatingly effective as it melts through armor and bodies with the same intensity.

Launcher - An over-the-shoulder missile launcher, supplied with a three missile pack. It is extremely long range and can be loaded with either Armor-piercing or Anti-Personnel (fragmentation) missiles.
And now, your veteran agent.

Designation: Agent Kerberos

Gender: Male

Age: 32

Nationality: Russian

Function: Experimental Weapons And Devices

Appearance: This agent is of a medium build, standing at 5' 11" tall and appearing to have average muscle mass. His ribcage has been replaced with a substitute due to practicality and frequent damage. His arms have also been replaced, and due to housing built-in weapons the forearms are slightly bulkier than usual. Notably he wears a [helmet] (http://i.imgur.com/tWxPW.png) due to near catastrophic cranial damage from a previous mission. All of his replaced parts match the helmet in coloration and material patterns, and his chest is composed of segmented plates to allow for maximum range of motion while still providing protection.

His clothes match his augments, and his coat is tailored to fit his arms while his cuffs hang nearly to the middle of his hands. It also includes a large hood that disguises his helmet.

Equipment:

1x Assault Rifle (foregrip, 4x optical sight)
1x Shotgun (mounted in left forearm, 4 round capacity, reloadable)
1x UZI (mounted in right forearm, cylinder magazines, 30 round capacity)
CHIP hack (incorporated into left arm, not visible)

Modifications:

Chest Cage
Bionic Arms (halved effectiveness due to modifications)
Neural Processing
Neural Coordination
Enhanced Legs (only for load-bearing purposes)

Demeanor: Grim at best, calculated and machine-like even more than other agents.

Operational History:

[June 17 2072] Operative activated after primary augmentation, optimal operational efficiency expected.

[November 5 2073] Operative critically injured during mission to [CLASSIFIED], reconstruction initiated on request of [CLASSIFIED], begun re-purposing for experimental prototypes.

[January 13 2074] Reconstruction and recuperation complete, prototypes installed, trials begun.

[CLASSIFIED ENTRY]

[March 23 2075] On-site testing complete, operative assigned to field duty.

[CLASSIFIED BATCH ENTRY]

[January 7 2076] Operative assigned to the personal detail of [CLASSIFIED].

** AUTHOR'S NOTE **

This character is a GM-PC (Game Master Player Character) and therefore is highly irregular. The special implants and replacements not listed in the Weapons and Enhancements section, mainly the integrated weapons, are not available to other agents and are unique.

Do not let this discourage you from proposing other implants and weapons, Azazeal and I are happy to work in player created items as long as they remain balanced.

** END NOTE **
I am so happy that this is finally up and we have interest! -came-

Original Name: Harold O'Malley

Age: 44

Nationality: Scottish

Appearance:

http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/5020/smokinaces2assassinsbalc.jpg

Personality: Good natured almost to the point of immaturity most of the time. Enjoys his work and goes about it with the same attitude that a boarder Collie when herding sheep.

History: Born in Glasgow but his family moved to Manchester when he was 12. Attended school and had an early reputation for fighting and anger. He was never malicious though just... enthusiastic. If one of his friends was being bullied he would stick up for them. If that meant denting a locker door with someone's skull then so be it. This violent streak persisted all the way up into his young adult life when a friend recommended that he enlist in the army before he ended up in prison. He did so and found himself in good company. His upbeat yet violent nature made him an ideal fit as an infantryman and then as an MP. He served in the Second Falklands War and later was assigned to Peacekeeping in Algeria. His third deployment was to the New Rhodesia conflict in 2075. He was honorably discharged after being shot in the face. In 2076 he had recovered from his wounds and took a job as a security coordinator for Eurocorp.

New Name: White

Assigned Weapons:

http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/8739/bladerunnerblaster.gif
-PKD-2019 Combination Revolver: This venerable but robust weapon is O'Malley's preferred sidearm. It's twice or even three times as heavy as most conventional handguns and sports a solid steel construction with amber grips. The weapon sports two barrels. The lower barrel feeds from a five round cylinder that loads .44 Special. The upper barrel is a bolt action mechanism that loads a single .222 Remington Magnum slug. A curious but effective weapon. The .44 Special cylinder has a high enough capacity to dispatch most human targets and is certainly loud enough to strike fear into those that might be unsure as to whether they want to engage or not. The upper barrel though can penetrate most forms of personal arm at pistol-engagement ranges as well as light cover. It's lack of capacity though is, in O'Malley's opinion at least, counter balanced by the fact that it's sturdy enough to beat a man to death with. O'Malley keeps the weapon in a basic leather cross-draw holster and keeps spare ammunition on the back of his left hip.

http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/812/kabarbeckertactool.jpg
-Combat Knife: Slashing/cutting edge, chisel point, and wire cutter. Full tang and forged from a high-density Ferro-tungsten alloy which allows it to hold an edge even in repeated use and makes it resistant to both high heat and corrosive materials.

http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/676/felineb.jpg
-Lank & Linder "Feline" Carbine: This compact, bullpup rifle is similar to the large Lank & Linder "Tiger" battle rifle that O'Malley carried in the Second Falklands War as well as the New Rhodesia conflict. It's clearly intended for closer range engagements and as such is is chambered in 4.7x39mm instead of the nightmarish 8mm Weatherby loadings of the Tiger. The 4.7x39mm gives the weapon a very flat trajectory and exceptional penetration against armored targets. A complaint of the weapon compared to its larger counterpart though is a lack of tissue damage but in the hands of a trained marksman this is practically a non-issue. The weapon feeds from 60 round polymer magazines. O'Malley's rifle is equipped with 1.5x Magnification Motion Sensitive scope to aid in the leading and targeting of mobile threats at medium ranges and and underslung Neutron emitter to disable electronic systems. The Neutron Emitter fires from 3-shot power cells and can disable or permanently damage electronics in a fifteen meter line. Beyond that the weapon loses effectiveness, causing severe static or cross-chatter but rarely forcing a full system crash or catastrophic processor failure.

Assigned Upgrades:

Chest Cage: Lancaster V-21 model, British Army Issue

Internal Defibrillator: Volksmesser & Sturm Cardiomacht III

O'Malley's left arm is mechanical up to his shoulder. He lost the limb in the Second Falklands War to an Argentine Partisan Sniper.

Always nice to see a cheerfully violent Weegie. "Square go ye fuckin' bawbag an' a'll geeye malky!" And with a Blade Runner pistol, no less.

Weapons seem okay, since Eurocorp probably makes most of the British Army's gear nowadays.

Original Name: Jason Miles

Age: 37 (effective 27)

Nationality: Canadian

Appearance: I'll do this later. Deviant Art just seriously damaged my brain meats. deus ex fan art. . .*stare*

Personality: Jason has retained the 'ladies man' personality that made him such a let-down to his father, and ironically such a pain in the ass for his new handlers. However he is eager to impress, if a little easily distracted, making him a dependable agent for missions requiring a fair amount of collateral damage.

History: Jason was never a particularly important person, he was just the centre of his own private universe. A five star athlete throughout college, his grades where propped up by generous donations to his university by eurocorp, on behalf of his father, renowned cyber-doctor Michael Miles. Michaels employers knew that keeping his skirt chasing, under performing, athlete son in school would help keep him focused. Unfortunately Jason got in serious trouble that could not be easily swept under the rug when someone wound up dead at one his parties and the forensic evidence pointed to him. In return for protecting Jason from the authorities, Dr Miles would sign an exclusivity contract with Eurocorp, just as he was threatening to switch employer. Jason protested his innocence, and his father secretly believed him, but had no choice. Jason was disappeared and kept safe. Dr Miles stayed at Eurocorp for another 10 years, before being killed by sabotage to his lab. At this point, Jason was thawed out from the expensive cryogenic freezer he was being kept in, and turned into an agent as an effort to recoup losses from the whole endeavour by Eurocorp Accounting division Six.

What Eurocorp doesn't know, and certainly Jason has no clue, is that his father is not dead. After negotiating with Sonbushi, he faked his own death and fled. Whether Doctor Miles knows what has happened to his son, and what he intends to do, remains to be seen.

New Name: Agent Robson

Assigned Weapons:
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110121190633/deusex/en/images/2/2e/Kaiga556mmM404HeavyRifle.png

This heavy man portal squad support weapon does exactly what it says on the tin; its a good thing Jason was broad shouldered and strong originally, as even an augmented human would struggle to use it. Jason manages it easily.
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CgmE45dvsRc/Tl92UAuUL3I/AAAAAAAABXw/60RoWcDFMvw/s800/1359DXHR_conceptart_Pistol.jpg

This 10mm pistol is a more manageable weapon as a backup. He can also hit people, really god-damned hard.

Assigned Upgrades:
Chest cage , Bionic arms - Replacement arms, Bionic legs.

Jason had undergone a significant overhaul with a variety of experimental systems developed (ironically enough) by his fathers team. These include myomer muscle lacing, bone density augmentation with a variety of titanium alloys, and skin reinforcement with sub dermal armour weave and chemical resistant coating. This system, christened the 'Atlas package', is still in effective prototyping, but using it on Jason was deemed an acceptable risk for the potential returns of accurate field data.

Original Name: Aaron Tandy

Age: 53

Nationality: American

Appearance:
http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/7065/dustercottonwaxedbarbou.jpg

Personality: having spent most of his adult life alone in the wilderness hunting, Aaron becomes uncomfortable when forced to be around others. When in a group situation he will usually remain quiet unless spoken to, and only responds with quick to the point answers.

History: Aaron spent his early adulthood in the army. While proving to be an excellent marksman, he was never selected for Special Forces, this led to his disgruntled attitude and he voluntarily left the service after seven years. Learning tracking skills in those seven years, Aaron became a professional hunter and started traveling the globe to earn a paycheck. As the hunting options became less and less in the wild he eventually started accepting less morally acceptable jobs. With no family to worry about he simply continues to tell himself he is taking down the world’s evil and needs the work to survive. While on a hunting trip in the Alps for personal relaxation, he slipped and broke both of his legs. To date, no one has noticed his absence.

I'm looking to play a quiet agent.

Original Name: Jonathan Harding

Age: 22

Nationality: American

Appearance: A soft face; nothing really stands out about it. He isn't very tall, nor short. His clothes are baggy, and plain. He's really not someone you'd remember very well... even I'm having a hard time describing him.

Personality: "Um... hello." Life in other people's shadows has givin him a submissive and friendly disposition. He doesn't mind doing what people tell him, and will always speak kindly of them to their face. Always avoiding direct confrontation, he hates making enemies. That's not to say he doesn't have a temper. He has all the power he needs when their back is turned...

Jon likes to make friends, but rarely more than two or three. Those friends he does have he barely speaks to unless they initiate contact.

One strong suit of his is his empathic nature. He seems to know how others feel no matter how stonewalled they are about something. He is curious about others, and wants to make people happy. His mannorisms and way of speaking tend to have a way of disarming other people emotionally, letting them feel comfortable in his presence...

History: Jon worked at a call center. His natural anonymity fit well with the setting, and he was used to getting good numbers. At home he would play games and try to finish his novel, which was falling more and more on the wayside since he had gotten his CHIP... it irritated him when he was aware of it, a stubborn tag on the neck of his favorite t-shirt.

His parents never called, and he had no other family. The girls he knew didn't even take a second glance. Probably because they frightened him so much.

When he was a child, and his birth mother was still alive, he would sneak around the house as quietly as possible to keep her from waking up. This habit stayed with him the rest of his life, and he still has trouble making known his presence...

Original Name: Himeko Sagahara

Age: 17

Nationality: Japanese

Appearance:
http://www.newcutegirls.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/20122362.jpg
Personality: Himeko is a shy person, not talking unless someone talks to her first, and if she needs something, she usually leaves a note or sends an E-Mail.

History: Himeko Sagahara used to be a daughter of a rich merchant ho was working for the EuroCorp. She lived a carefree live even thought her parents didn't give her a CHIP as it was usual to give to the children. They also didn't have one and they wanted Himeko to live in the "real" world. On her 17th birthday, the house of Himeko's parents was raided by Sonbushi agents. Luckily Himeko was not at home, but her parents were killed. After this, she decided to become an agent, not for revange, but to forget her past.

New Name: Agent Hime

Assigned Weapons:
http://www.undeadgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/hoytmatrixcarbon.jpg
Hime uses a absolute loudless weapon, a combound bow that can also be armed with explosive arrows if needed. The bow can also be packed up to save up space and is so easily transported even in a suitcase.

http://www.bussecollector.com/img/aa.jpg
She also uses a set of daggers hidden under her coat and other clothing.

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/aapistolsite-1.jpg
Even thought she hates firearms, as her final weapon Himeko uses her custom-made pistol.
Assigned Upgrades: Ocular enchantment (both eyes), bionic arms and legs,
Neural Implants: Coordination, Processing

I was thinking her as scout of some kind.

Of course! The short version of the story is basically: Megacorporations rule the world. Crime syndicates have bribed and murdered their way into control of those corporations. Rival corporations use brainwashed cyborg agents to secure their interests when money alone isn't enough. You are one of those agents. :>

Original name: Arthur Cole

Age: 33

Nationality: Mexican/Australian

Appearance: Arthur stands ever so slightly under average height. He has shoulder length hair, very light brown in colour. His face is quite boyish, and his skin in general is deeply tanned. While he isn’t particularly muscular, Arthur is far from scrawny.

Personality: Arthurs a people person, or at least a certain kind of people person. He’s confident and friendly, but in a way that could occasionally be described as manic. His manner is often interpreted as overly aggressive or arrogant, a judgment that is not entirely inaccurate.

History: Arthur grew up in Mexico. His mother was the daughter of a former Australian Secret Intelligence Service agent who had defected and joined up with the Cartels. As such, Arthur’s family had been part of the Cartels for three generations, and Author was, as a child, raised into that life. Of course, by then, things were different to how they had been in the early twenty first century. Mexico was no longer the Old West it had once been, and the Cole family didn’t adapt well to the corporate life. By the time he was twenty, the Cole clan had come apart completely, and Arthur had fled to Europe. On his own, on another continent, it was only a matter of time before he was picked up by one of the syndicates.

Original Name: David Townsend
Age: 50
Nationality: American
Appearance:

http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1778354944/nm0000609
Personality: Tough and determined while on a mission, although not arbitrary or unfair, and generally warm and genial while off duty. Family, the Job, and the Corps were David’s loves within his lifetime before being turned into an Agent.

History: David Townsend was a born and bred New Yorker originally from a tough, yet loving and supportive, working class family. Hard work either at school, a job, or at play was expected and delivered through David’s youth and adolescence. After graduating from public education, with an academic record that was satisfactory yet not standout, David followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the Marine Corps. After four years in the service, and two combat tours in Venezuela, decided not to re-enlist and returned back home to New York City. From there David successfully applied for, and completed amongst the top five percent, the training to become an officer in the NYPD.

Over the course of the next twenty three years David led a charmed life. While the job was no cake walk, David was always well regarded by both the communities he patrolled in and by the officers he patrolled with. Also during this time David married and became the father to a son and daughter. Unfortunately for David and those he loved, and loved him in return, he didn’t return home from the job one night two years ago. Officers Townsend and Santiago, the later being a young officer still on probation, were the first unit on scene to a report of shots fired at a warehouse belonging to the Sonbushi Corporation.

By the time the next units arrived on scene, less than ninety seconds later, they found a grim scene before them. Officer Santiago was dead, killed before he’d even been able to un-holster his weapon, and Officer Townsend was grievously injured by multiple gunshot wounds. The only evidence of the assailants was the copious amount of brass they’d left behind, and what was evidently the brain matter of one of them plastered over a wall. By that morning the news broke that Officer Townsend had passed away, and within the week both he and Santiago were to be sent off with all the tragic ceremony of a Law Enforcement funeral.

Unfortunately for David’s wife, Charlotte, she had been unable to leave her work as a managing accountant for EuroCorp during a crucial audit in Geneva. Likewise their children, Veronica and Brian, were out of New York and in no position to handle the preparation. The elder daughter was in London, on corporate scholarship for business management, and the younger son was indisposed at Marine Corp Recruit Depot Parris Island.

However, with consent from the family, EuroCorp Human Resources did a professional and excellent job of stepping in as a proxy in handling the arrangements. It was a closed-casket affair, out of consideration for the traumatic injuries David suffered, but that didn’t stop thousands of mourners from paying their respects at the wake. The bright spot for the Townsend family was that EuroCorp was also able to arrange their arrival in time for the funeral, where the grieving widow accepted a neatly folded flag while consoled by her children.

When thanked by the Townsend family for all their hard work, considering that it wasn’t strictly necessary for them to do so, the representative from EuroCorp Human Resources merely offered a warm smile and a few kind words. She said that taking care of David’s funeral arrangements was no burden for the company, in doing what had to be done, and that they thought of David as one of their own now.

Original Name:Michael Lehmann

Age: 33

Nationality: German

Appearancehttp://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l603/Connor_Schween/hi.jpg

Personality:He Doesnot hate his enemy, open, a little paranoid

History: Michael grew up with Phil (his real father). Phil taught Michael combat from childhood on , and made it very clear to Michael that what he is taught is to protect the ones close to him, not take from others. Michael respected this rule and so continued working with his dad in their Mechanic workshop (cars, bikes, etc.). One night when michael came back from a delivery he found his father dead in the workshop (it was later found out that it was just for $120 which phil had in his wallet). Michael joined the Army to put his skills to use and was trained as a combat medic over the next 3 years. One fainthful mission Michaels squad was stuck in a firefight with no way out, he was the lead medic with 2 more under his command. The fireing got less and a gap opened towards wounded that were closer to the front line, Michael decided to move there, so he could atleast aid the soldiers who had the biggest wounds. This Decdision was the worst one he had ever made, besides leaving his dad in the shop alone. The Enemy had thrown Explosives into the trench where the wounded were, then they lowered the fire to get the Medics into that trench, and it worked. Michael and Dan (one of the other medics) were in the trench when the opponents detonated the charges. Dan was ripped to bits in an instand and Michael had his left arm blown off, his chest ripped open and his right arm broken several times (reason for the bionic implants). The only lucky thing was he wore an incombat helmet, which left his face untouched.(http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l603/Connor_Schween/helm.jpg thats the helmet). Michaels military documents say he died in hospital after the incident.

Original Name: Cedric Parker

Age: 31

Nationality: American

Appearance: http://i41.tinypic.com/30c17hv.jpg

Personality: Cedric is cruel and unforgiving, and if he holds a grudge against someone, he will make sure that he gets a chance to kill them someday. He hates taking orders, but is forced to do so by the CHIP implanted in his neck. He hates being corrected, and is known for shooting people who do. He also looks down on most other people, and rarely shows anyone else respect.

History: Cedric grew up on the streets in New York, in an area with a very high crime rate. His parents died when he was 8, and he was forced to try to survive on the streets. He was saved by a gang of young boys. Most of the members of this gang had run away, others had been left on the streets, and a few had no parents, just like Cedric. The gang stole to get their food, and they killed if they had too. It was hard to get enough to eat, as most of the people who lived in the area were poor, and they didn't dare fight over it with the gangs of older men. When Cecil was 11, he killed a man for the first time. He took a 1911 Colt .45 off of his corpse, and has had it ever since. It's an old gun in the present time, however, it had been modified with present-time technology, which made it a much more viable weapon. He refuses to part with it, even at the insistence of EuroCorp. When he was 18, he disappeared, and no one in his gang heard of him again.

Well, that's certainly a decent number of players to be getting on with. Thank you for your interest guys and girls! Okay, to answer a few questions:

I just have one question though. Is there a certain length our posts have to be?

Not particularly. Certain situations lend themselves well to long posts, while others (say, describing a character's reaction during a fight) only require a line or two. I also understand that some people just naturally prefer to write more or less when they post, so don't worry too much and play it by ear.

Is this allowed?

Er...I'm not sure why he'd need it, since you can already hide a fair bit of stuff in combat webbing and in the shotgun-loops of a trench coat... Is it for something special?

I don't know, I just found the picture on Google Images. I think the description said his name was Wesker or something.

Yep, I'm pretty sure that's Wesker from Resident Evil. And he does look rather similar to the "canon" Eurocorp (http://www.thevideogameinformant.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Syndicate-Box-Art1.jpg)agents (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/4b/Syndicate_Coverart.png).

On a side note, I was wondering if I had too many enhancements, and if there are tranq dart throwing mini-crossbows allowed. If "no" to the first, I'd like to add "Bionic Ribcage". That seems to be a safe bet. If "yes" to the second, I would like to add that as well.

You may add the bionic ribcage. As for a dart gun, you won't need one. Tranquilisers can take several minutes to take effect - especially if you hit a muscle rather than a vein, which is most likely in a combat situation. Your CHIP-hack implant however can achieve the desired effect in a much shorter space of time, by scrambling someone's perceptions or sending them a "sleep" command.

How much equipment are we allowed carrying? and if no-one else goes for it I´d want to be a medic, I mean if there is such thing in EuroCorp

Of course EuroCorp has medics, especially for Agents. They may be mind-controlled automatons, but do you know how damn expensive they are? It would be very useful to have someone with a nanobot medikit out on the field - they could keep injured Agents alive until they could be evacuated to a proper med-lab.

As for how much equipment, just ask yourself: could I realistically hide this many guns under an overcoat? EuroCorp may have most of the local police forces in their pocket, but someone blatantly carrying a machine gun around the streets is going to cause alarm, even for people with CHIPs screwing with their perceptions. If agent Carter's assault rifle is modular so it can be carried in pieces, I'd say his current loadout is acceptable.

The backpack is just to store all kinds of equipment, to prepare for all situations, or are agents allowed to go into meetings fully armed?

They're practically expected to. If they're not being sent on missions, Agents are most often used as bodyguards. After all, it's not like they can shoot their controlling executive (well, unless someone higher up overrides their CHIP control link, as Xenakis did to De Luca in the prologue).

Oh and how many more characters do we need till we start Roleplaying? also due to our high numbers is there going to be two squads in different threads?

I reckon we've got enough now, subject to X's input of course. At this time I'm planning on using just the one thread, and I'll endeavor to make the missions complex enough so that all 10 of you will have something to do. Not to say that the characters might not split into separate groups later in the story, but it will still be within the one thread to save space.

Agent White (http://role-player.net/forum/showpost.php?p=836502&postcount=6) Combat Oriented, slight close quarters slant.

Agent Robson (http://role-player.net/forum/showpost.php?p=837074&postcount=10) Heavy Weapons

Agent Anderson (http://role-player.net/forum/showpost.php?p=842328&postcount=17) Marksman

Agent Hime (http://role-player.net/forum/showpost.php?p=844354&postcount=29) stealth

Agent Halton (http://role-player.net/forum/showpost.php?p=845096&postcount=40) Technical (seems to be the only one with a Chip-hack)

Agent Wallace (http://role-player.net/forum/showpost.php?p=845250&postcount=41) Close Quarters Combat

Agent Carter (http://role-player.net/forum/showpost.php?p=845284&postcount=42) Combat/ Support

Agent Miller (http://role-player.net/forum/showpost.php?p=845367&postcount=43) Assassin

So that comes out to 9 player characters in total. If you were to lump them by category you'd have 4 gears specifically towards head-on combat encounters, 3 that preferably think through conflicts in order to strike where it would do the most or go unnoticed, and 2 that are of the sneaky inclination.

I had envision that my Agent wasn't entirely "new" but just that he had been on two or three previous assignments. Enough for him to be an established Agent and be seen around Eurocorp offices but not enough for him to have any sort of positive or notable reputation. Would this be alright?

Azazeal849

That's fine. In a sense they're all "new", as they've been given modified CHIPs which makes them less reliant on an executive control signal, to combat Asari's secret weapon. As a side effect, they are more individual and independent than a standard agent.

Support isnt medic is it?? i Had in mind being a Medic not a support (On the Character Sheet) :I altho Carter had :3 alotof knowledge of mechanics....

I classed you as "Support" for the following reasons:

1) You've three guns and a knife. Now this might not seem like anything stupendous but its what these weapons are. You've got a shotgun, specifically one of the short barreled FABARMs (solid shotguns btw if you don't actually own one), a Desert Eagle, and an HK416. This arrangement would allow you to breach rooms participate in a protracted shoot-out, and you've got something that you could keep holstered (note I'm saying holstered and not concealed) in case you had to wear a suit or something. So you've got a lot of potential combat-wise but none of these selections would be Top of the Line in the context of the setting. Compare the HK416 to the carbine my character is using and you're losing out on capacity and penetration due tot he caliber. Compare the shotgun to Agent Wallace who's carrying a Saiga (saigas feed from a magazine and can even use 24 shell drums). HOWEVER this isn't really a bad thing. Since the US has been using AR-15 styled rifles since the 60s we've got millions and millions of surplus just laying around, so much so that in some conflicts during the 80s we SOLD our equipment to foreign governments instead of bothering to ship it back. Not only that but there's a MASSIVE civilian AR-15 market not just in the US but the world over. Move things 70 years in the future and Armalite rifles wouldn't exactly be NEW but would be extremely easy to resupply pretty much anywhere. And as for the shotgun you might not be able to dump half a dozen deer slugs in a matter of seconds but it's relatively compact, reliable, and compared to the MINIGUN one of the party members is carrying around would be the least concern as far as legality goes. Plus you've got a Desert Eagle in case we need to kill a water buffalo or something.

2) You look normal. You're not sporting a serious facial scar, not wearing a 90's era trench coat, and don't have any pronounced mechanical limbs. You're a thirty-something with slightly aryan facial characteristics. If anyone were to walk into a room and NOT make everyone go on the defensive or piss themselves it would be you. For example you could wear a suit, keep the Desert Eagle and shotgun in your satchel, and put the HK416 in a case and walk right into an office building or public area as just a random guy. Then you go into a bathroom, strap on a vest, snap your rifle together, and Heat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZL9fnVtz_lc) mode. You're probably the only one in the group that could talk their way into or out of a situation without getting a full cavity search or having their records checked.

3) You have medical and mechanical knowledge. You're not a surgeon or a member of a NASCAR pit crew but you could probably tear the brake lines out of a car, jam an elevator, stop someone from bleeding to death, or split a broken bone. Most of the other characters are either subtle/ intellectual or focused purely on murdering people.

I classify "support" not as the ones playing second fiddle to the people doing the shooting or the ones doing the techno work but the ones that can act as intermediates between other party members. Your character might not be the best shooter but he can hold his own. He might not be a computer whiz or a ninja but he knows how to not shock himself and can keep his mouth shut and blend in. Its characters like yours that help a group of characters compensate where they might be lacking but without forming a serious schism in overall composition. For example if you were a full blown medic that was only there to patch people up and the party got into a full blown fight you'd be the first to get picked off simply for being the healer. But that's not you. Instead of that you're the guy running alongside the primary shooters taking out anything that might try to flank them or making sure the softer members of the party get to safety. You SUPPORT the party, no matter how they might screw up you can help smooth it out.

Thank you SandQueen! The only thing I'd add would be you probably wouldn't want to be a pure medic anyway. Firstly EuroCorp wouldn't spend millions augmenting an Agent just to have them carry a medikit around, secondly your role would be more stabilisation rather than getting them straight back into the fight (there's only so much you can do for someone who's been incapacitated, especially if they've got cybernetic parts that you can't replace in the field), and thirdly it might be a comparatively boring job from a writing perspective due to being a purely reactionary role.

If we're all new agents, I'll have to edit my character's profile.

His profile says that he was taken by EuroCorp when he was 18, and he's like 31 now(I think).

Not necessary, Simulacrum.

Excellent. That clip was followed by the shootout from Leon, and selections from The Town.

YouTube marathon of heist film clips clearly trumps sleep before my first day of the new semester.

I have to say I’m looking forward to the IC launch, and the moment when Wallace is going to have to kill someone with his robot hands.

And your questions: The cal.50 is to make sure the target stays down, even with body armor or to take down an target riding a buffalo (you never know whats out there!) 2. I see what you mean with the Heat Scene and i agree also, but honestly the M4 hes using has only got 30 rounds, he shoots like 200 without reloading O_O. (And out of topic also: Yes i do know about weapons like FABARMs (have you actually shot anything with a Solid round? its evil :D((we have a huge arsenal :P)) sorry if that was spam... In the director's cut they actually show the reloads, they cut them from the Theatrical release to make things flow better and appear more cinematic. The director, Michael Mann, is well known for filming action scenes in a very accurate manner.

And cool people run Ventura Munitions' Centurion shells.

I'm back! Thanks for covering for me, X.

Another Important question: What type of well, first aid DO we carry with us? i mean like Drugs, Injections to kill pain and stop the bleeding or keep our heart beating incase we get limbs ripped off?

As well as providing communication and allowing the executives to track and control them, the CHIP that each Agent has in their neck is capable of stimulating the release of adrenaline and other hormones into the bloodstream at the executive's discretion. This will generally be done when combat is imminent or, as you say, to help with pain and minor bleeding control.

For those Agents that have it (i.e agents White, Carter and Wallace) the heart implant has a secondary function as a defibrillator to shock a badly wounded Agent back into a normal heart rhythm. However, if the Agent's heart has actually stopped then the only thing the controlling executive can do is inject a large dose of adrenaline, and even that has a very low chance of success.

Carter's medikit is a pocket-size box that holds a tourniquet, airway tube and pressure dressings, as well as several tubes of gel containing medical nanobots. These can be applied to a wound to stop major bleeding and stabilise someone who has suffered severe injury, though don't expect the disabled agent to be up and fighting again until they've received proper treatment at a EuroCorp medlab.

Also are we allowed to have Gasmasks, explosives?

Explosives such as grenades will be issued as appropriate to the mission. Gasmasks won't be issued except in exceptional circumstances for two reasons. Firstly, they're damn conspicuous. No-one's going to bat an eye at an Agent's trench coat (everyone wears them due to the acid rain) but even someone with a perception-altering CHIP in their head is going to look twice at someone walking around town with NBC gear on.

Secondly, EuroCorp and their opponents are unlikely to utilise toxic gas or other such WMDs. As Geneva-violating weapons, they'd draw a far greater response from world governments than normal gang violence, and there's only so much that corporate-run mass media could do to cover that up.

Remember that EuroCorp, like all the other syndicate-run corporations, wants to maintain deniability for any Agent actions. They use unmarked cars and unmarked weapons, but a serious investigation might reveal the truth. As far as the world is concerned, anything the Agents do is the work of criminal gangs, mercenaries and religious fanatics (albeit rather well-equipped ones). The world knows that organised crime is a serious problem, but we don't want them to know that said crime has spread to the top of the world's most influential and respected corporations. EuroCorp might have far more influence on world governments than it has any right to, but they'd be screwed if someone mobilised a national army against them.

Do we get to keep any kind of belongings from our past life?

Not really. Why would they? HOWEVER, I am quite happy to contrive situations during the story where Agents revisit places they know, or even run into former friends and family. PM me and X (or make a request in this thread) if you'd like to do something like that.

If you're talking about Carter's backpack then I suppose he can keep that. We can say it was issued to him by EuroCorp - he'll need it during the first mission.

Oh and i made important changes to my Character description.

Changes accepted. Although as a side note, I'd like to point out that EuroCorp doesn't just issue upgrades to fix injuries (they're expensive, hence in most cases they prefer an undamaged body to work with so they can add just the implants they need for their role) - they are mostly designed to increase the Agent's combat effectiveness.

Are we going to get some info now? so we can prepare for mission 1??!? i mean get our thoughts set and stuff

X has already answered this question, but for a little bit more information see my earlier post (http://www.role-player.net/forum/showpost.php?p=847012&postcount=62).

You'll all be fine.

This. We're not demanding thesis-level writing from you guys. The only point of this RP, apart from to hopefully tell a good story, is to have fun. Any reasonable standard of writing is acceptable, provided it is readable and written in the 3rd person past tense.

Corollary: If you're not having fun, please let us know so that we can hopefully rectify it. If you have ideas about events and character-specific subplots you want to work into the story, just PM us or mention it in this OOC thread and we'll see if we can't use them. Mihaw has already contacted us regarding the future of Agent Carter, for example.

I don't know... he's broken his right hand behind the knuckles and has made a career of running around with an assault rifle. That doesn't strike me as normal when it comes to how bones and muscles develop for most people.

The movement of the fingers is caused by the muscles in the ankle, so, even if you have broken knuckles, it's not a problem.

Sorry, wrong word. The movements are made in the wrist.

lol no worries.

But while the tendons that govern the fingers might be situated in the wrist and forearm they still attach to the bones in your hand. So flexing the tendons without something rigid to keep them in place can be extremely painful. This is why when you break your hand or wrist the associated cast partially covers your fingers and extends up your forearm to keep the bones immobilized while they heal. And even after they heal depending on the severity of the break you can permanently lose flexibility in your fingers due to how the bones mended (calcification, internal scarring, etc).

So while the tendons might be perfectly health it doesn't matter if the bones are damaged or in bad shape.

Azazeal849
02-06-2012, 10:38 AM
Do you mean control as in use a CHIP-hack (in universe) or control as in write some of their actions in your posts?

If it's the first then yes, that is the plan - though it will be Hex's character doing the controlling as he is the one with the CHIP-hack. I recommend he use it on the guard at the metal-detector checkpoint inside (so you can get him to take you to Security Post A instead) but virtually everyone in the complex is susceptible. Bear in mind though that you can only control one guard at a time, that you need to tell them what to do verbally, and that another guard who is there when his mate gets hacked will probably figure out what you're doing.

If you meant the second, then yes you can "control" the guards in your posts; don't feel that you have to wait for me to write every guard response to every Agent action, or every line of a conversation - just write them in yourself as you think things would happen (or as you would like them to happen). I'll only challenge it if you start god-moding or violating common sense.

@ SandQueen - I will allow a few more days for Ixajin, Mihaw and Hex to post; after that I'll start taking temporary control of inactive characters just to move the story along. As you say, it's holding up other people who want to get started.

No problem, Ixajin.

Mihaw, to address your questions:

How could i get rid of the other guard tho... Is there cameras in the room? im guessing not ^_^

You are correct, there are no CCTV cameras in the room. The door however requires a guard's pass to open. Some doors in the complex will open to your visitor pass, but sensitive areas will require a higher security clearance. The highest security areas are full of passive metal detectors and biometric scanners that will initiate lockdown if tripped. Luckily for you the Security Posts are not among these areas, since armed guards are coming and going around there all the time.

Can Carter get one of the guards into a conversation and distract one of the guards while Trent then chip hacks the other guard

That might work, as the CHS is very quiet. As long as they have their back to the first guard and don't see them spaz out they might not realise what's going on. Your challenge is finding a topic of conversation that will succeed in distracting the very businesslike guard in the first place...

telling him to like... tell the other guard we have special permision or the boss wanted to see the eurocorp representives immediately?? That way Trent and Carter wont have to hide the body of the other guard

True, but it's a break of standard security procedure, and the other guard will know that - what will you do if they decide to double-check the order themselves?

I'm not saying that your plan definitely won't work, just that you'll need to think very carefully.

EDIT - Wow, awesome. Didn't expect a response that quickly Simulacrum! Though the bit about Hime going first and checking it's clear refers to popping up out of the pipe into the car park rather than going into the pipe itself. I think we can be reasonably confident that there is nobody else in the pipe :P

Simulacrum

Sorry if I made it look like they were going into the pipe to make sure no guards were in there, I meant that they're going into the pipe, and Hime will pop out and make sure no one will see or hear them in the parking lot.

Lols ill reply as soon as i can, but cant right now ^_^.... And great now Carter has to kill a woman... Is someone constantly watching the CCTVs? or is it just recorded?, because if someones watching then then carter engaging would mean Trent would also be identified as enemy...right... unless Hime reaches command post b and neutralises the people watching ^.^....

I've told you about three times Mihaw, there isn't a CCTV camera in the checkpoint room! :P CCTV cameras in other parts of the facility however are being monitored on and off from both security posts. If a character enters a room with a CCTV camera or some other security device I will point it out (wouldn't be fair to just tell them they've set off an alarm).

And why is killing an innocent woman any more or less heinous than killing an innocent man? Although I'm glad you've gotten the message that EuroCorp are not nice people, not nice people at all.

EDIT - Just realised I should probably start putting quotes and edits in red now rather than yellow, as the change in the forum background makes yellow harder to see...

Azazeal849
02-22-2012, 08:03 AM
"How do we shut down the security Britta?"

Well for a start you'll need to deal with the 4 armed guards in the room who are working the computers you just described (I recommend a minor edit to your previous post), though you might want to keep one alive to get the confirmation password to disable the security system.

I like how the rebellious Agent Miller is essentially trolling his boss by calling her by her first name :P

EDIT - Okay, based on Xannak's post I'm going to assume that Miller killed the guard outside, the ones inside came out and were killed by Hime, leaving the room empty of (living) occupants when Miller walked in. That makes sense and doesn't require anyone to change their posts.

Azazeal849
03-07-2012, 09:27 PM
Sorry, slightly behind schedule with that update.

I thought you'd all be getting tired of mowing down hapless guards, so here's a real challenge for you. The Sonbushi agents are as tough as you. They are as fast as you. They can shoot just as straight as you can. And they're packing high velocity ammo that your carbon fibre overcoats may not stop as reliably as pistol bullets. You do however have the advantage of numbers, and your characters can think more independently than their fully CHIP-dependent counterparts.

Xannak, I found your last post a bit power-gamey. Yes Agents are powerful, but you dropped into a confined space in the middle of more guards than the rest of the squad have engaged combined. I'm not going to seriously penalise you, but I didn't think it seemed natural for the guards to stand there and keep firing uselessly while their friends died in droves (and if they did, that many guns at once would pose a serious risk of hitting Hime in her unaugmented chest or head). Please take the minor IC setback as a gentle warning.

Sorry that I only have one post up so far. A lot of shit happened.

First, my little brother caught Influenza A like a week before his birthday.

So then, I was behind the other kids in my group on my Confirmation studies(For those of you who don't know what it is, it's a Christian/Catholic thing.). So I had to have an interview thing with a priest yesterday, I had to memorize so much shit that I couldn't have even made a decent post if I was actually able to get on RPA.

Then, the rest of my family caught what my brother had, and I was the only one who didn't get sick(I'm lucky, I hardly ever catch stuff like that.). After everyone had finally gotten rid of the flu, I found out that my parents didn't buy a birthday present that I could give to my little brother and sister for their birthday. So the day before their birthday, I had to go to the store and spend all day trying to find something to get them, because I had no clue what they wanted.

So, I was behind on school, studying way too much shit at one time, while taking care of my family, and trying to do a bunch of shit all at the same time.

So I'll work on a post tonight/tomorrow, as I'm lacking any sort of inspiration right now, and I don't want to type up a shitty post just to say that I posted.

So yeah, sorry I haven't posted in like, forever.

Ah crap, are they?

I was totally expecting to deal with them on my own. If its ok with you I'll edit to have White and Halton deeper into the building (securing exits, perhaps) so I don't have to rework my post to much. Are their players still posting?

No worries Sim. Next time if you could just drop a quick one-liner to say that you'll be away for a while that'd be great, as it helps me and X keep on top of things.

If its ok with you I'll edit to have White and Halton deeper into the building (securing exits, perhaps) so I don't have to rework my post to much. Are their players still posting?

That's fine with me if that's the way you want to play it lol

And no, it doesn't look like they are. I PM'd all five of our inactive players on Friday and didn't get a single response (even from SandQueen, which is rather odd - perhaps the messages didn't send for some reason, wouldn't be the first time posting from my phone has caused trouble). I'll streamline things at the end of the mission by having inactive characters reassigned, so that they can come back if necessary, but aren't a dead weight to the remaining players.

Almost instantly, Cedric began to fire his weapon at the escorts. After he had finished off the guards, he opened fire on the fleeing civilians. After he was sure they were all dead, Cedric made his way over the bloody mess of bodies that littered the floor of the hallway.

Bloody hell, Simulacrum...

First off, yeah, I bet Wallace will be unhappy if he sees that mess.

Secondly, I think you’re right on the money with the GM updates.

The extra reading isn’t at all a chore to do, and you’ve definitely kept the mood consistent and the action engaging. If you hadn’t spared the time and effort to do such a convincing job making the FusionTech staff into real people, rather than just automatons with a death wish, Wallace probably would’ve been equally trigger happy as Robson and Miller. And I’m definitely enjoying the challenge for Wallace not to kill everything in sight just because he could.

PaintSerf

No rest for the wicked then? Very good.

And then questions happened...

Mission oriented questions:

Is the operative watching the nightclub trusted or reliable?
-If so, will she be providing intelligence to us as she receives it?
-If intercepted, are we responsible for extracting her as well?
-Will other non-Agent EuroCorp assets be involved that we need to be aware of?

What does the surrounding terrain look like?
-Is the nightclub freestanding or connected to other buildings?
-Are any of the adjacent buildings greater in elevation that the nightclub and does it look feasible to get roof access, and what purpose are these buildings for?
-What is the approximate distance between the nightclub and the nearest declared emergency response buildings – police, fire, or even military?
-About how large are the crowds of bystanders out reveling and how prevalent is local law enforcement amongst them?

Nightclub and the targets:
-Do we have any solid details about the building interior or its exterior dimensions?
-If not, can the operative or satellite data provide approximations?
-Have the Agents been made aware of Dr. Asari’s technology and its potential to subvert their CHIP?
-Have we been given a positive identification of the Sonbushi handler, and if possible should he be captured for intelligence rather than killed?
-Also, if the handler is CHIP hacked, can he be used to control Sonbushi Agents?

Nitpicky details questions:
-Miller and Robson are providing fully armed backup - does that mean the rest of the Agents have limited weaponry or are even unarmed?
-If the rest of us are armed, do we have the same weapons or could we select alternatives – and what might the armory have in stock?

Azazeal849
04-26-2012, 09:36 AM
The operative: The operative lives in Minsk and has been working for EuroCorp for several years - as far as we know she has not been compromised. She is currently drinking in a bar opposite the Sapphire nightclub. She is armed but not expected to take an active part in the mission. If her cover is blown the Agents have been instructed to prioritise their objective of retrieving Asari over helping her.

Non EuroCorp assets: The operative spotted two men, presumably Agents, walking up and down the street outside. There are surely more Sonbushi personnel inside tasked with guarding Asari and the executive. Other Sonbushi assets in the area are unknown, but as they have a major manufacturing presence in the city it is likely that they can call on reinforcements. Speed is therefore vital. The nightclub staff are no doubt on Sonbushi's payroll, but they are not armed.

The mission zone: The Sapphire nightclub is a popular and classy establishment on Minsk's east side. It is a large, freestanding building on a main street - approximately 30m by 20m and two floors high. There are no windows. The roof is flat and there are air circulation vents through which a person could conceivably gain access. You'd have to rip out any grates and fans in your way, but the music should cover the noise of you banging around. It also helps that most of the clientele are a) CHIP'd and b) drunk. Narrow alleyways separate the club from a cocktail bar on its left and a pub on its right, both single story. Round the back is a walled-off smoking area, the wall topped with razor wire to dissuade drunken idiots from trying to climb it. The operative picked out security cameras watching the ground floor entrances, but couldn't see if there were any similar devices covering the alleyways or roof. She has observed the bouncers checking handbags and patting down male patrons for knives in the club anteroom.

Police presence: There are squad cars patrolling the streets; larger numbers of police on foot tend to gather around the nightclub exit near closing time in case any fights kick off, but this will not be for several hours. Additional police, fire and ambulance services could conceivably reach the nightclub within 10 minutes if they responded promptly to a call. The nearest military base is some distance away, and the nearest military airfield is on the eastern outskirts.

Civilian presence: It is approaching pub closing time and large numbers of people are migrating to the nightclubs. The queue outside Sapphire is already quite long.

Building interior: Original building plans indicate that the club has a first floor and a basement level. The building has been renovated since its original construction however and the internal layout is unknown. Any entrance to the underground safehouse is assumed to be somewhere on the basement level.

Asari: The Agents have been made aware of the device Asari carries, and that it interferes with CHIP control signals. Their CHIPs have been modified so that they are less dependent on the control signal - Asari's technology should therefore not affect them. However, this theory has not yet been tested. Asari herself does not wear a CHIP, and so CHS will not work on her. She must be restrained by other means.

The Sonbushi controller: The Sonbushi controller has been identified as Vladimir Dobrynin, the same controller you clashed with at FusionTech. If he is fitted with a CHIP it will probably be a Dart 5 or Dart 6 equivalent; CHS are therefore unlikely to affect him. If the opportunity arises you should kill or capture him, though this is to be considered a secondary objective compared to retrieving Asari.

Agent loadout: All Agents have their original weapons, or replacement versions of them. If you wish you can swap their weapons from last mission for any of the options in X's list (first page of the thread), but please let me know in advance what they are. Close-quarter weapons are recommended. The guns Wallace picked up at the end of last mission have been submitted to R+D for tracing.

-Silencer for sidearm
-CHS in replacement left arm
-FN P90 USG in 5.7×28mm with silencer
-FABARM FP6 (Carter's shotgun) with buckshot and half a dozen each of Hatton (breaching) and Baton (beanbag) shells.
-Taser International X-3 Electrical Control Device
-KA-BAR knife
-x2 Flashbang and x2 Smoke Grenades
-Medikit and two additional tourniquets
-x2 Handcuffs, x12 Zipcuffs, and a roll of duct tape
-Petty cash in quantity deemed appropriate

Knowledge requests:
-Russian language skills
-Hotwiring vehicles
-Detailed street map for eastern quadrant of city

As a consolation of the shopping list Wallace will not be retaining his automatic shotgun.

04-27-2012, 07:28 PM
As long as Wallace can find a way of fitting all that under his coat then he may proceed lol When he asked for money some of the techs gave him funny looks, but after a moment's thought Britta smiled and overruled them. Will 1000 euros worth of Belarussian roubles do you?

PaintSerf
04-27-2012, 09:58 PM
Wallace returned the technicians look with an equally perplexed glance of his own.

“When going to clubs don’t you…” Wallace started before sighing and changing his track once he realized who most of the audience was. “Oh, never mind. We’re flying across a continent in a zeppelin that’s equipped with an onboard arsenal and cybernetic repair facility. I doubt some pocket money would require breaking open the company’s piggy bank.”

***

Britta’s offer of a thousand euros worth in the local currency will do it for Wallace. I’m curious myself as to how Wallace’s plan for the money will work out, or if it will even be necessary to use it.

I’m also fairly confident in abilities of Wallace and the EuroCorp tailors to find creative ways of concealing most of the gear. But coming across a metal detector would probably be the worst thing ever and require so much bluffing.

Receive yes; for transmitting you may have to talk quite loudly, so I'd suggest you either find a quiet spot or somewhere you're less likely to be overheard.

Good to know.

Britta can expect a request for group cell phones (or future equivalent) with texting capabilities when we get back to base.

Depending on how this mission pans out, of course…

I'm not going to be able to post for a while. My mom is being stubborn and waiting to renew her Norton subscription because she wants to wait until my computer is fixed, so that we don't have to pay extra for a third computer. And I think it's going to be a while before it gets fixed. You can mod Miller for the rest of the mission. If I'm not back by then, you can either keep modding him, or find a reason for him to be excluded from the missions until I get back. I don't really care which one, so do whatever you feel is best.

Sorry to hear that, Sim. I'll try and keep him around for when/if you get back.

Nice post Xannak. Hime seems incredibly fond of leaving bombs in people's air citculation systems!

Ditto (I will allow you to NPC Britta or one of the techs for this since it is your grenade and your plan).

Something you've probably worked out but I will mention anyway - Wallace and Hime will know that the "staff only" door is on the same side of the building as the locked, camera-covered alleyway door.

Hi guys, good news for you (or bad news, depending on how enthusiastic you are about this RP haha). I'm going to be away in Spain between next Monday and the Monday after, so you all get a week off :P

"I could use some backup. Kill him quickly, once I get him down, or else he might be detonated."

What makes you think an Agent has to be alive for the controller to press the self-destruct? ;) Luckily they probably won't do so in an underground tunnel because of the risk of collapse.

My other favorite words to hear the GM say are: if, maybe, and perhaps.

I can’t wait to see what Mr. Dobrynin will decide to do with the kill switch. It’s going to be a blast!

Also, if he survives this stunt, Wallace is probably going to develop a complex about corridors and rotary cannons.

Azazeal849
06-12-2012, 09:46 AM
How nice for him.

You'll see how Mr Dobrynin reacts soon enough, as he's sitting in a room beyond the corridor elbow (and probably wearing the same sort of expression as vice-council DuPont when John Preston barged into his office on a bow wave of dead guards).

In the meantime however; Xannak, I think agent Wallace would appreciate Hime saving his arse from No More Mr Knife Guy.

Yes, we haven't heard from Robson or Miller for a while. Though I know Dakkagor's busy and Simulacrum may still be having trouble with his computer.

Oh, and while I'm thinking about it, a head's up in advance - I will be away in Italy for the middle 2 weeks of July, but will be right back to my GM duties after that.

Good to hear your computer problems are on the mend. Here's the quick and dirty on what you've missed.

Bad news: This. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F4qzPbcFiA)

Good news: I’m sure there are plenty more Sonbushi Agents ready to be put down.

Honestly, even if you did update on vacation, I just wouldn’t respond out of principle. Assuming, of course, that going to Italy is for vacation and not work related business like international espionage or something.

I’ll have the next round of cyborg fisticuffs posted up after I hammer out some GrimDark for A Light in the Black. Also, still waiting for the shoe to drop on Surprise! The Third! Suspicions have already been forming on what that could (or will) be.

Well, that was a fun one.

Query before I edit in Wallace’s response: Were there any obvious doors or pathways that we might notice either in the ambush room or the corridor we stormed through earlier?

Azazeal849
06-29-2012, 09:37 PM
There is another door opposite the one you came in by. Dobrynin just locked it, but you can potentially rip the CHIP multitool off of Stratton's arm and use that.

The rest of the safehouse consists of four rooms laid out in a square, connected with short corridors. These rooms are a kitchen / food storage room, sleeping quarters, Agent cryo chamber (all pods currently empty) and the control room where Dobrynin and Asari were. There is also another store room (that's what the "ambush" room originally was) at the opposite end which links to the long tunnel leading up and out to the overpass.

Concrete shrapnel from the missed shot lacerated Wallace’s neck and face as he savagely punched into her knee. The knee and three of Wallace’s fingers broke as metal smacked into metal.

Wallace needs to stop making a habit of breaking these expensive cybernetic arms we give him. :P

Crippled, and perched on his chest, the Agent clenched her thighs and pinned Wallace’s arms between them. Wallace’s hands cupped and squeezed into the woman’s backside as she pushed herself back and tried to level the pistol at his head again.

Did I read that right? *stare*

If the Executives would prefer to give Wallace a nice and cozy desk job I doubt he’d complain. :lalala:

After two kills and two assists against enemy Agents in a relatively short amount of time, plus all that running into gunfire nonsense that he does, it’s only fair that Wallace not be at 100% anymore. After a flying kick to the chest there looks to be some internal damage as well.

Edit: Post fixed - Wallace's response to Britta should be in by the morning.

Oops, sorry, should have clarified. The safehouse has two exits; one at the club, the other near to where Robson and Miller are. The idea would therefore be to head down that tunnel to cut off escape rather than double back to the club.

Other than that, good to have you back, Dakkagor. :>

Now here's where things get interesting. Asari's little gadget didn't crash the Agents' CHIPs like it was supposed to, but it has disabled the mental block that prevents them from disobeying orders. So now you can carry on with your original mission, or do something completely different...
