Vs.

Troy Barnes: General Grave (http://role-player.net/forum/showpost.php?p=531294&postcount=3)

Battle Arena Description:

The arena is alike to a large room, rectangular, with deep-blue paint plastered upon its walls.

At one end stands Nyrin.

At the other stands General Grave.

They cannot see each other from the beginning for, in between them, stands a maze. Each path is lined with mirrors of various shapes and sizes but only one leads true to the other side. Choosing the wrong way will lead to a nasty surprise.

They’d done it again. Beat him black and blue, forced him to submission, and prayed that they could tame what could not be tied down. Test him, would they? Throw him into a pit with meat; see if he would take the bait.

Foolish were the humans. Starve an animal and always they would take the food.

Nyrin could barely think through his starvation, but he could catch the scent of flesh beyond the maze before him. Blood surging, muscles tensing, and sweat, he could only hope for. After all, perspiration was the sweetest juice to baste a meal in, fear and frenzy merged together in a bitter sauce. It burned at his taste buds – the mere thought, ecstasy – and the lesser heads began to drool in anticipation.

He roared – once, twice – but did not move. No, the hunt was so much better when his prey was on the run.

The general didn't like this. There was supposed to be some form of opponent that would get him the honourable test he so dearly desired, but right then, staring at the room filled with images of himself staring out with furrowed brows, doubts started to fill his mind.

It didn't seem a place for any form of honourable opponent to spend their time. Which upon introspection seemed ironic since he was there himself. An irony that didn't pass unnoticed but one that kept him curious as to the match up he would have in such as place.

It was difficult for him to get his bearings as he was more used to wide open spaces as opposed to high walls which felt determined to crush in on him. The only thing he was sure of were his feet and the hard ground below.

The mirrors didn't aid his sense of control for even a moment. Each massive mirror giving an appearance of space instead of the actual thing, tugging on his generally solid sense of balance.

The first few steps he took required thought but eventually he steeled himself enough to move. No fancy 'glass' was going to rob him of the battle he longed for.

Once the entrance was out of sight and the support the blue plain blue walls had given him vanished, he realised quickly that this was not a place for the likes of him to be in. And yet still he entered the maze.

The anticipation and sense of blood lust rose up within him but he wasn't stupid. Never under-estimate the enemy, this he knew. And acting appropriately he pulled out his staffs, moving deep into the maze while placing one on the ground on strategically while keeping one in his right hand just in case.

The sound of flesh pressuring wood from anticipation rang in his ears for a moment in the silence before a roar broke his sense of concentration.

What ever was in this place was big, or the acoustics in this area were incredible. He would have to gambit upon it being a combination of both as even the smallest of his own footsteps sounded as a cannon shot inside of his head.

"What ever you are beast I hope you are ready for the lashing and taming that you shall receive at the blunt ends of Roderick."

"Whatever you are, beast, I hope you are ready for the lashing and taming that you shall receive at the blunt ends of Roderick."

Words.

Weren’t they primitive?

Humans believed language to set their race apart from the bestial. Foolish… foolish. It simply detracted from the easiness with which to communicate a message; it had stolen their ability to hunt long ago with ideals of literary finesse. They had more squawks but that did not mean more brains.

Grunting as his bruised body dragged itself forwards, Nyrin headed towards the maze’s opening, laboured breaths the collaboration of nine beaten mouths. Only an idiot would blindly stumble into such a mind-trick.

Delta and Eta slid forth into the mirror-lined hallways, leaving the others behind to their hungered musings. At least then, if things went wrong, it would not mean death for the hydra.

Graves's entire form froze, his leathery skin tingled as he felt the heavy steps of the enemy make his heart skip a beat. For the second time he found he had to steel himself.

He felt he could sense movement but the steps themselves had drawn to a stop. At first the question of 'is he flying?' rose up in his mind but the way sound transfered he was sure he would have heard the beating of wings. Carefully, each step sure and agonised, he moved deeper into the maze, careful for any tricks. No tricks fell over him but he'd hit his third dead end when his entire form froze. He could hear heavy breathing. Not the haggard breath of a man sized beast or wild animal but the regular breathing of a beast which was itself heavy.

His grip tightened on Roderick, he turned from the third dead end and moved carefully all but the last staff in his hand. His body tensed to coil as roll into attack or roll away depending on the situation.

The beast was near, he could smell it's stomach turning breath nearby. The general's breath grew shallow, the question of being down or up wind from the beast proving irrelevant in such a space. All that mattered was that it was near.

Around the corner a mirror blog fogged almost completely, telling of it's size and the general's eye brows raised. He stepped back his instinct telling him to coil into a ball and roll away in order to regroup but it was then that he realised that his reflection as not only showing in the mirrors to his left and his right but the ones in front giving away any hope for a surprise attack.

Ignoring instinct the general jumped out of the corner to face the beast his bamboo staff showing its elastic properties, wobbling violently while the offending tip spun with a whirring noise that filled the space between officer and beast with sound.

The general's eyes widened. The beast was huge and this was only it's head! And yet he didn't fall back and not for a moment did the whirring of the staff's tip dampen or slow. For the third and final time(he was sure of it!)he steeled himself and wiated for the beast to come at him.
