Renaissance: Battle against the Machine
Chapter 1

On the outskirts of Theseria, in the ruins of an old city that the city state was built over. it has been so long that no one even remembers the city's name.

HRL army units were sent out to clear the area of recent machine activity. as enemy troops supposedly numbering in the dozens have been moving in to set a staging ground for a much larger scale attack on Theseria. however they will soon found out that there's more then the eye can see.

The Legion of the Iron Fist had caught the army units off guard. as ambushes and sudden firefights sparked throughout the ruins, cutting off the soldiers from each other.

"Take cover! scatter! I don't give a shit! just don't get shot!" shouted the Captain of what remained of his advancing team.

His men complied as the street immediately turned into a killzone as legionnaires in platoon and a pair of spiders unleashed suppressive fire on the soldiers, forcing them into cover. the captain tapped his comm-link on his right ear. "This is Captain Matthew Anders of the 104th Recon team! we're under heavy fire by enemy platoon! anyone getting this better damn well get here!"

"Copy that, Captain". Lt Callum Aldridge raised his eyes and stared at the other five soldiers who were with him. "We're meeting Captain Anders", he announced. He started to walk in the direction he had been told, but before the other men followed him, one of them spoke.

"What are we doing with him?" one of the ensigns asked. Callum turned round and faced the scene. The one who spoke was unconsciously pointing to the seventh of them, who were lying in the ground, with a mortal wound in his forehead. What remained of the Legionnaire that had killed him was lying besides him.

Hadn't one of them be killed, Callum would have smiled after listening to a question every soldier who survived long enough had asked one time in his life. Callum gave him the only possible answer.

"We don't have enough time."

The time it'd been Callum who asked what to do with a dead body during a battle, the deceased one was someone he called a friend. This time he barely knew the dead ensign, but he still found it tragical because he was so young, Callum couldn't even figure out what he was doing in the field. He'd be surprised if the ensign was over 17 years old. Callum looked at the pocket on his shirt: R. Hawk. He remembered he was called Hawk, but he didn't get a damn clue on what the R. meant. He didn't dare to ask the other men. It wasn't the right time.

"The main fight is taking place ten minutes away from here and the Captain asked us for our back up. We must go now". The other men were unwilling to leave one of them behind, even if he was just a corpse now. Some of these men must had been really close to Hawk, he tought. Callum got on his knees and shut Hawk's eyes, which were still open. "May he rest in peace. We'll come back for him later. Now march!"

This time, the five of them followed him without a doubt. Callum wished he had a Raven to pilot and carry the men faster. While they were running to face the machines, Callum hoped Anders had enough man power to resist the attack until they and the other reinforcements arrived.

"Roger that Captain, calm down and give me a SIT-REP (Situation Report)" said The Major, into his helmet, signaling for his troop of 14 men to double time it. " My G.P.S. puts you at Seventy second street in-between the Mall and Hospital, meaning im two blocks away, I can hear the gunfire" Tyler motioned for his men to stop and peaked around a corner, his pistol at the ready. He saw the gunfire exchange between the two groups.

"Be advised i'm moving through the Apartment complex to the Iron Fist's left and preforming a flanking maneuver" Tyler and his 14 units ran across the street and ducked behind the building, peaking through. They ran through the building's garage complex taking cover from car to car until they were at the exit that would allow them to flank the robots. Tyler placed a C-4 charge on the metal door separating them from the robots.

Moving back behind a car he pressed the detonate button, and the C-4 charge blew the metal door outward towards the robots, flattening two and shredding two more with shrapnel before a storm of bullets opened up from the side of the garage killing 5 robots before the pulled back away from the door.

"Be advised, we have arrived"

Shadow slid underneath yet another Spider, stabbing its low battery pack as he jumped out, landing on his feet with a slightly angry expression. He growled, and turned as the Spider began to lose balance on its legs, and fell over, face-first, into the rubble of a building that had just been destroyed.

He sighed, getting a link from one of the Commander's signalling for help. It was about ten klicks north, so he could make it in time. He jumped into the nearby Jeep that he had driven to this abandoned city to exterminate some leftover machines. He accelerated the modded vehicle to a speed of 90 miles per hour, and began to feel through his pocket for something. He pulled out a garlic clove, and popped it into his mouth, chewing slowly. (Props if you know where that's from)

He stopped about half of a klick away. He saw other reinforcements charging in to help. He scowled in their direction, knowing that they wouldn't see it anyways. He pulled the sniper rifle from his back, and got into the proned position. I'm not getting paid enough...I'll tell them to get me a meeting with the General later... He thought as he shot a MKII Legionnare. It quickly fell from its position, causing many other machines to look in the direction of the bullet. Another was struck in the 'eye'. A Hopper soon came in, and they must have reported the nuisance, because it was already coming his way. He quickly put the rifle back on his back and pulled his melee weapons out. In his experience, Melee works pretty well on the Hopper's soft, flexible skin.

It was soon only a few yards away from him, raising it's claw-like hands to stab him with the next jump. It jumped, and the claw sliced Shadow on the Shoulder. But when it landed, its arms fell off. Shadow's blades were raised in an X-looking stance. The hopper squealed in Machine-tongue, before succombing to jump towards Shadow again. He smirked, and held his short-sword like someone would after a stab. The hopper jumped right into it, sending the owner of the blade flying back quite a few feet. He wiped the blade clean of the weird substance left behind by Hoppers' 'Skin', and turned back to the real battle.

"It's not looking too good!" Anders responded to Tyler. "Machines have us pinned and any attempt to advance by my men was met with a hail of pulse shots."

Anders loaded his rifle up and aimed it at the machines, firing all the rounds he had until he heard several *clicks* "Damnit....." just moments after, he and his men heard rapid gunfire and an explosion behind the enemy ranks. turning their attention to the new attackers. the next words he heard over the comm-link made him smile.

"Be advised, we have arrived"

"Splendid timing soldier we're moving in on those metal bastards!" he then turned to his men. "Alright boys! it's all clear, charge!" his men complied and dashed out from the rubble, charging towards the enemy position and unleashing a hail of bullets on their turned backs.

Unit 69 was climbing up a half broken building, using it's "hooks' on it's fingers, in the middle of a war zone. It looked around to see the damage as it flipped around to the inside of the building, still hanging onto the wall, as it jumps down to the floor of the building, there's 3 stories left of it. The 3rd story is half gone, and a broken set of stairs to it. The 2nd story has no stairs, and a bunch of holes in the floor, while the ground level is fully in tact, door blown off though.

It would climb against a wall on the 2nd story, looking down a hole waiting for HRL units to try and get cover in the building, the building has HRL forces next to it, but it entered through the other side, so they didn't see. It contacted a Carrier with Spider Units near his location. It knew it would take a while, so he waited for it's chance to strike. An HRL unit quickly came in against the wall as it slid down the hole silently, then quickly flung at the HRL Unit, slamming it into the wall, causing severe damage.

The HRL unit was down as Unit 69 jumped up to the ceiling uning it's synthetic skin. It went into hiding, it was very hard to see it as more HRL units came in to check on the guy, It was sure he was dead as he waited for his chance, the other units looking around, taking precautions. One came under him and he prepared to strike...
