The Protection Detachments:

Background:

The Humans of Thervi form peaceful clans, their mud-hut villages ranging across the continent, inhabiting even the harshest of environments. Clans keep to themselves and war is unheard of – Disputes within villages are common but so few venture outside their hometown, that full-scale conflict is impossible. In fact, for the last few years, only the Protection Detachments have been seen outside the village walls. The village’s ‘Broadcasters’ carry out any urgent inter-clan communication but there is rarely a need for such a thing.

The Protection Detachments are the informal military of the clans. After all, although there is no threat from other humans, the surrounding creatures can often be aggressive. No one knows where their violent streak originated from – Elders of the town reminisce of when they used to play with the nearby centaurs and wolves. Now they are seen, not as intelligent beings, but as rabid monsters.

Broadcasting:

All Humans of Thervi are gifted with a talent nicknamed as ‘Broadcasting’. Broadcasting is the telepathic ability to communicate through thoughts. For many, the talent is highly limited however. Most people only have a Broadcasting range of a couple metres and can only transmit simple words or phrases.
Broadcasting to more than one person at a time requires intense training and a high level of control. However, each village has specially trained ‘Broadcasters’ – People who have dedicated their lives to the art of mind control and honed the ability to broadcast across miles of land. They are primarily used for emergency communication with other clans or villages.

Protection Detachments:

Each detachment squad is made up of five members, each individual with a different specialisation. Members are allowed to join between the ages of sixteen and twenty and are trained for the following three years. After their third year of training they are deemed ready to attempt their first mission and are joined with four other members. Together they form an ITD (In Training Detachment).
ITDs are given the simplest missions where there is no chance of any powerful creatures attacking. During this time, it is not uncommon for members to switch ITDs. When the team as a whole is deemed ready, they are promoted to a Protection Detachment and forced to deal with real missions.
As well as having different specialisations, it is encouraged that each member has a different Skill to their team-mates.

Rules:

+ Firstly, obey the rules of RPA
+ I expect literate role-players. This includes a few paragraphs per post, plus correct spelling, punctuation and grammar. I won’t kill you if you make the occasional mistake but I certainly encourage the use of a spell-checker.
+ Don’t kill other people’s characters without permission and please accept that your character might die later in the RP.
+ NPCs can be controlled by all role-players.
+ One character per person
+ Ensure you are active. If you plan to go away for a while, it’s important you warn me first.
+ Do not make your character anywhere near perfect/all-powerful. Everyone has weaknesses and negative points, as well as good points. I should also point out that all your characters will be pretty ‘weak’ for the first few missions, simply due to inexperience.
+ Although I encourage romance, I don’t want any perfect love stories. Of course, the characters can have crushes and fall in love, but there should also be complications and the occasional heartbreak.
+ Read this far? Put 'cupcake' at the end of your character sheet to show me.
+ I am always open to players contributing to the plot. I encourage it actually.
+ If you have any questions, please ask~ C:

Personality: Darnel can be aggressive towards people he is not familiar with, and tends to avoid one-on-one conversations with strangers. He likes to tease the people he can, and is usually the person everyone avoids talking to. However, once he finds his footing in a group, he becomes more pleasant. He enjoys being someone’s support. On occasions, he has been fairly sentimental and loves to make those close to him feel worthwhile. Although he can get easily jealous, he is normally subdued about it. Darnel is of a below average intelligence, probably because he is far more interested at the more practical skills in life, such as magic and horses.
