People are coming up with whole new ways to use shipping containers - offices, homes, clinics - and jail cells.

Welcome to H-Cell.

Would you believe the hardest thing to make in here was the metal toilet?

Here's a side view. Sadly, the sun is off so my standup you see here on the right is shadowy.

For a scifi game, I rendered several 3d props, including this gigantic 52-man lifeboat. I took the top off, opened the escape hatches and added steps - tada! A trainer! 100mm hull to protect against light impacts and radiation and two solid rockets - one to use to escape the ship, another to prep the lifepod for re-entry or rescue. Parachute landing.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/ships/lifepod_trainer_515x450.jpg

Each escape-hatch area has an external venting vacuum toilet for solid waste, osmosis processing for liquid waste, wet-wipes for cleaning and a vacuum spigot for water. Under deck are the lifeboat power cells, maneuvering jets fuel and atmospheric processing.

Entrance is an overhead hatch, two wounded on stretchers can be laid on top of the central air vent.

Used lifeboats can be converted into small homes, offices.

It's like a ball turret from a WW2 bomber - there's a seat and guns on either side of you, caseless ammo is loaded into a bank outside the access trunk. Can be remotely controlled as well.

They're universally capable as you can swap panel modules and circuit panels to meet most fire control unit needs. And because I'm lazy and didn't want to design a bunch of specialty units. As this was for ship without gravity, no foot petals.

Oh, there is a rod under the keyboard to act as a wrist rest or a place to hook on.

If you've heard of pod hotels, then you know what this is - or rather, my own twist on it. Space is at at premium on ships. Large crews may find themselves sleeping in pods like this.
http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/habitability/sleeppod_a.jpgIt's basically a big box with a front door. What I realized after making this is you would need to put in a spacer for a ladder to climb up to the top unit.
http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/habitability/sleep_pod_open_front_new_01a.jpgIsn't this cozy? No actual mattress - there's a mesh hammock stretched between poles inside channels on either side. Buttoned to that is your sleep sack, a light-weight sleeping bag to keep you from floating away in weightlessness. The walls are padded - the gray stripes are velcro panels on top of the insulating padding, so you can put up pictures and small items. The headboard is a kick-out panel in case you get trapped inside.

There's a ventilation nozzle on the light and more ventilation under the mattress, guided by the foam blocks, put in should things get really violent. You could remove the foam and put in a storage tray.
http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/habitability/sleeppodnewsideA.jpgHere you have a better look inside. The light unit mounts a small ventilation nozzle on one side, a power outlet on the other. On the wall, you can see a small control panel - clock, internal ship comm, temperature control and lights. You can also see my foam block pillow, sewn into the hammock. The door has a pull-down curtain for privacy.

Overhead are two hand-grips - padded, of course. If you're weightless, you can use them to push yourself towards the door or give yourself something to hold on to while kicking out the escape panel in the headboard. Remember to allow one meter of space on the back for servicing and escape.

you'd need a locker outside of the pod to hold your gear.

For those ships with more room (perhaps for visitors or senior crew), the MicroCabin provides additional private space for 1-2 crewmembers.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/habitability/microcabin1a.jpgStandard MicroCabin, 2.1m deep x 2m wide x 2.3 m height. 2 bunks .6m wide and 1.9 m long, each with its own bunk light, control panel, storage cubby and display panel at the foot. Ladder for accessing the upper bunk while under gravity at the foot. Two lockers for personal storage as well as space under the bottom bunk.

The MicroCabin pocket door is beside the lockers. A plastic mirror is mounted on the west wall between the bunks and the lockers and doubles as a kick-out panel. A matching kickout panel is on the opposite wall.
http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/habitability/microcabin_2door.jpgA two-door variation where the door on the south side of the room leads to a shared hygiene compartment with the next microcabin. The kickout panel on the East wall has been replaced by a door that now connects you to the corridor.
http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/habitability/microcabin_lux_layout_2.jpgTwo mirrored microcabins sharing a common hygienic compartment outfitted with zero-g/grav fittings.
http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/habitability/microcabin.jpgA view of the bunks in a standard microcabin. This version has two smaller ladders .235m wide on each end of the compartment instead of the standard .435m ladder at the foot of the bunk. Optional shatter-proof mirror not installed on west wall.

The room I've been working on for so long is almost complete! I have the console, the stairs, the handrail, the walls... So much work!

My latest 3d creation for Lox's SEED game - check it out.

He told me that a cube could work as a pure-space fighter as engines on each side would allow it to move in any direction. I decided to make the cockpit into a standing rather than sitting module that juts out of the front of the cube for maximum visibility.

I think I can use this as a model for other small small service craft.

And for the scifi gamers, a Valkyrii Blaster Carbine, sans sights.
http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/projects/blaster2a_01sm.jpg

Blasters combine a laser with a particle cannon - they don't just burn a hole in you, they knock you back. Range is not as great as a laser though. Here you can see the extended powerpack magazine plugged in in front of the grip. Just above it on the stock is the magazine release button. To the right, auxiliary power ports. Selector switch is recessed on the grip. Adjustable buttstock (surprisingly, Valkyrii clones come in variety) and sling mounts.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/projects/blaster2a_03sm.jpg

This gives you a great look at the emitter flash guard and flashlight. The black strip is the switch for the flashlight. you can also see the t-channels that run the length of the gun for mounting hardware such as sights, cameras, etc.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/projects/blaster2a_02sm.jpg

Looking at the butt of the gun, you can see the ammo display counter. Just below it is the Valkyrii Serial Code.

Thanks Lox for your suggestions, they really helped.

Lately I've been thinking about space pirates.

Sorta an offshoot of an earlier project where I was building a dreadnought. This is just the base form, still more to come.

t's been a while, so I decided to try my hand at making another Tardis console - this one from the 1996 Doctor Who movie. What's below is my first render of a work in progress.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/projects/Tardis%20Project/Nu_tardis_movie_base_p001_zps77dad049.jpg
As you see, I've got a decent start on the console base.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/projects/Tardis%20Project/Nu_tardis_movie_base_p002_zps5e0792d9.jpg
I haven't worked out how to do ball and claw feet yet, but I like this looks. I basically made the feet in thirds, then copied and rotated to a different place, then pasted the next one in place. This gives it a more uniform look.

There will be more detailing down here later.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/projects/Tardis%20Project/Nu_tardis_movie_base_p003_zps58991f48.jpg
A look at the top that let's you see the shelves that stick out from the sides that don't have feet. I'm just adding the ring at the top, more to come later.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/projects/Tardis%20Project/Nu_tardis_movie_base_p004_zpse0e72d0a.jpg
I've decided to do cut-outs to show nuts and bolts holding the ring to the top. I have to make a box to surround the nut, then trim the box away to make the lands or depressions you see on the left. I will probably be changing a few of the colors so the screw and the washer base stand out.

That's all for now. Thank you for taking a look.

Here I've finished with the ring. I've made the washers and rods silver, and kept the nuts brass. Doesn't the glass look wonderful?

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/projects/Tardis%20Project/Nu_tardis_movie_base_p007_zps9f5f0848.jpg
A side view of the console, so you can see without the glare.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh620/Ex_Pendable/projects/Tardis%20Project/Nu_tardis_movie_base_p005_zpsacc9f44d.jpg
And now - tardis console with clear glass riser!
