Assault Force (5)
Scaravus
NPCs (4):

Al’Jun Eagle-eye (Archer)
A wanderer before joining Scaravus, he is a peerless archer that has never been known to miss his shots. However, this is because he takes his time when lining up his shots, and won’t work well under pressure.

Di’alan Torju (Spearman)
Pairing well with her adopted brother, Ki’juro, he wields a double voulge, making up the offensive half of the duo. She doesn’t work well without Ki’juro taking the brunt of the enemy attacks.

Ki’juro Torju (Spearman)
The other half of the duo, Ki’juro makes up the defensive half, wielding only a non-bladed staff. Their best tactics involve him holding the enemies off while Di’alan swoops in for the kill.

Shan Krion (Assassin)
Like his brothers of the assassin order, Shan works best from the shadows, sneaking by the enemy whilst the others draw their attention until he can come up from behind and cut their throats. He will not hold his own against a swordsman, though he is nimble enough to escape if given the chance.

Players (1):
Dezeroth A'kyer (Eddren) (http://role-player.net/forum/showthread.php?t=32533&page=5&p=1040221&viewfull=1#post1040221)

Fire Monks x 10

Rumored to be possessed by spirits of fire, Fieran monks are unarmed warriors who channel fire as if it was born in them. While their attacks don’t span battlefields like the fire magi of Firanos, they attack in such ways that it certainly seems like you had just as much of a chance of escaping against the mages. These monks differ from their normal brethren because they wear chainmail upon their chests. Underneath this metal, there is no protection, and they bare the scars of the metal burning into their skin. Such is their way.

Tai’yon Torsa, the Golem Tamer (http://edarttogo.cghub.com/files/Image/123001-124000/123763/280_stream.jpg)

Head of the monastery and the master of the Fieran art of bare-fisted fire magic, Tai’yon was rendered blind when lava splashed his face when he was young. Instead of killing him outright, the lava only scarred his features and stole his sight. He took this as a punishment for his youthful pride, and is now the embodiment of humbleness, serving Deimoclos faithfully. He has learned how to ‘see’ without his eyes, picking up on the ‘inner flame’ of any living thing to get around his monastery.

Introduction

It has been told that the secret to Firanos’s taming of the Lava Golems lies in a carefully hidden monastery at the base of the Sulphoran Volcano, kept watch over fanatical monks who are in fact the Golem tamers themselves. Though much of this is usually written off as hearsay, you knew better.

Here, at the foot of the great Fieran volcano lays a monastery, unlike others of its kind and hidden deep within enemy lines. You’ve gotten this far without much trouble, but here is where the true test will take place. The monastery is built almost completely into the volcano, so as to have only a courtyard outside the mountain, while the rest remains hidden within the brimstone.

Within this nameless fortress, monks with the ability to wield fire go about their daily routines, unaware that anyone might be so bold as to venture this far. While the element of surprise is indeed on your side, how you go about this will ultimately determine your success.

Will you take the stealth approach and whittle away the enemy one by one? Or will you simply assault the monastery, leaving no one alive and ensuring that Firanos knows that Scaravus is out for their blood? The choice is yours, as either path (and lo, even those not mentioned) have their difficulties and their bonuses. Choose wisely.

Battle Start

Of the entirety of the monastery, only the outside was visible. From an eagle’s view, an open courtyard and the outside of a building was visible, the courtyard surrounded by a stone wall that made the entire place seem like a fortress. The doors to the monastery were closed tight, and the walls were at least twelve feet off the ground.

In the courtyard, two monks sparred with their bare fists and feet, their chainmail tinkling as they moved with grace enough to match an Aeregosian. Another monk sat in front of the entrance to the inner monastery, watching over the mock battle with feigned interest.

The Scaravian group would approach from the south, approaching the monastery from the only accessible route available to them. With the journey behind them, their goal lay just ahead. All they need to remember now is their mission: find out how the Firanos monks tame the golems, and take it from them.

Dezeroth lead the group quietly, eyes on his objective. Now was not the time to make mistakes....Nodding to the Assassin, he watched as Shan Krion slithered off. Muttering 'Arcdibe'Ohj Magiha animus., he held out a hand. The light bent and distorted around him, before finally he looked like the grass and air around him. On close inspection, one might notice that there was an area where the surroundings looked almost...Stretched, but the Mage hoped that their own movements would cover it. True invisibility was too costly. As it was, he'd be useless as long as he was holding up the spell. Only the advantage of surprise would assist him, now.

Dezeroth nodded again, this time toward a corner of the Monestary. From there, they'd be able to view not just one, but two different sides. And the superior visibility would assuredly give them an advantage. Quickly, the man climbed up, taking a quick glance at the area around him before dropping back down. With a quick report of the surrounding area, the Mage nodded. A glance over to his left, and a twig broke. It was not on accident. A signal, designed so that an average onlooker wouldn't suspect a thing.

With that signal, Dezeroth took up position on the right side of the wall; Ki’juro Torju took the lead in front of the gate, with his sister, Di’alan Torju, directly behind. The idea behind it was simple. He would use them as they had always been used; as a pair. Al’Jun took position behind...Far behind. Where he'd stay. With a raised hand, the Mage motioned toward the gate, and the two Spearmen charged out. The plan was already in action; the Assassin was climbing the wall. Hopefully, the motion from the two soldiers would be enough to distract the monks...Well, that, and the Assassins' own natural stealth, of course.

As the two spearmen charged into the courtyard, the dueling monks were caught completely off guard. The two were roughed up already from their duel and not prepared to face enemies so deep in enemy territory. However, there was enough room between the gates and them that the monks were able to recover from their surprise in time to engage the charging spearmen.

As per their tactic, Ki'juro took the forefront and blocked both monks off with his staff, the wood whirling between his fingers and he expertly held them at bay. This allowed Di'alan to flank one and dispatch him with a deft swipe of her voulge, spilling the man's guts on the dirt.

The third monk, near the entrance to the inner monastery, leaped to his feet as the spearmen charged in. As the other two engaged, this one had to make a decision. Warn the others, or help his allies? There were only two enemies at present... Surely he and the other two could dispatch them. As he thought that, though, one of the other monks fell to the Scaravian steel. That decided it for him. The third monk joined the fray, leaping across the courtyard and sending a jet of fire towards the two spearmen, focusing on Di'alan.

Shan Krion, seeing the indecision on the mans' face, stalked his way behind the foe, preparing to strike when, all of the sudden, the man charged forward and began bursting fire out at his allies. Quickly, he moved. Leaping outward, he struck out at the monk, intending to save the pair. At the very same time, Al'Jun was focused completely on the first target. When the man was killed swiftly, he had paid the third no mind, and so switched instead to the second monk. Drawing, he breathed in, mentally preparing himself for the shot before aiming, aiming, aiming....And loosing.

Dezeroth stepped out from behind the wall once he had heard the crackle of fire, much surprised to see the third in combat. I thought I'd have to play catch-up. He thought coolly, but paid it no mind. To the two, who were now rapidly backing up, almost on the verge of running away from the fire, he cast a spell; something along the lines of 'Aerobe'Miroe Cotuch Aqueos. it was simple, and not really aimed toward them. But there was a price. The Assassin, behind the third Monk, was exposed. And there was a painful twinge in his stomach, for working such powerful magic and switching directly into another. Falling to one knee, he gasped but continued. Pointing to the monks, he commanded the water to leap out of the Scaravian water-skins, and hurtle toward the third monk, who was throwing the fire.

Di and Ki were, as previously mentioned, desperately backpedaling. While Di was now very much set afire, Ki was trying to put her out frantically. Pulling off his shirt, unwise as the action may be, he began batting at the flames with it. Powered by familial love, he finally persevered. Di, meanwhile, was waving and stabbing he weapon wildly in the direction of the monks.

The remaining monk that had been sparring was busy engaging Ki'juro when his ally joined the fray, pushing both spearmen back. The monk smirked and turned to his ally now that the spearmen were retreating from the fire spouting from the man's fists. Doing this, he realized his ally's danger and opened his mouth to warn him, already in motion to try and intercept Shan. However, as he did, an arrow sprouted from his neck, silencing him.

The remaining monk realized his ally had fallen, just as his fire was put out by water that appeared to be coming out of the Scaravus warriors' waterskins. Shit, there are more of them! the monk thought with a grimace. He as his fire was being put out, he turned on his heel as his next stride hit the ground, and suddenly felt pain bloom in his side.

What had originally been a killing blow from Shan turned into a weaker hit as the monk suddenly changed direction. Cursing, the monk shoved Shan away, blood flowing from the large wound in the Fieran man's side. I have to warn... Tai'yon... the man thought, grunting as he took a step back towards the entrance to the monastery. He fell to his knee, though, unable to continue walking for the pain.

Dezeroth turned to the man, and, waving his hand and murmuring 'Blosmaqueos'Percugate Blosma. Aerspek Friroza'Cotuch Blosmaqueos., pointed to the blood. It shimmered, and then the Plasma separated itself from the now-flaky remains of the rest of the blood, before freezing and being launched at the man. The Assassin then bent over, knife streaking toward the fallen monks' neck. For real, this time. Ki and Di, now not in any real threat of danger, closed in on the man as well. Di struck out with her weapon, while Ki prepared to bring it down on the mans' arms, should he decide to attempt using fire or some sort of martial arts. The Mage and the Archer came up last, with Al'Jun supporting Dezeroth part of the way, before he finally waved the marksman away. He did so, but also knocked another arrow, pointing it toward the entrance of the monastery should another monk happen to walk into shooting distance for some reason.

Through the combined efforts of Dezeroth and Shan, the monk was dead before he could think to retaliate. He fell to the ground, bleeding from his neck and side in profuse amounts. The three monks were dead, and the way to the inner monastery lay open. What lay inside, though, was a mystery to all of them. Nothing seemed to suggest that the monks within had heard the ruckus.

Dezeroth made his way toward the entrance, the two fighters in front, and the Assassin sticking close to the nearest wall. Next to the Mage stood the Archer, bow still readied. As they neared the corner, Dez put a hand on both Di and Kis' shoulders, motioning them to stop. He glanced over at the Assassin, who crept over toward the corner and, crouching, carefully peered into the monastery, scouting out before them.

The first part of the monastery was a mere descending stairway (I will not be providing a map for this, it really is just a stairway). Lighted by torches near the end, the opening at the bottom of the 100 or so steps let in light that seemed to be coming from a well lit room. The opening was only about two average human's wide and seven feet tall, with no lip to hide behind and peek out from. The stairs ended right at the opening, so looking into the room without displaying yourself to be seen would be... tough.

A faint clatter of china could be heard from the room beyond, as well as the scrape of a chair being moved. Silence, then a something muttered before the faint tinkling of silverware on china. It would appear to be coming from the right of the entranceway.

Shan reported as much to Dezeroth. They're clever. he thought to himself, before sighing. A little too clever for my liking. Turning to the corpses, he motioned over to the pair, whispering "Bring me two of those corpses. We're about to lay a little trap." They moved to do as he said, when the two corpses were before him, he closed his eyes, rehearsing the words in his head, before speaking "Blosmaqueos'Percugate Blosma." The growing pool of blood from both of them shimmered as he waved his hand over it, and, turning to the opening, he muttered "Blosmaqueos Flamue." He then pointed along the entirety of the stairway, right to the entrance of the door. Shimmering, the remaining Plasma seemed to slither its' way there, spreading itself out until it was covering the stairs and was just a tad bit past the doorway. He poked his head out for a moment, before crying out "Ha!" Hoping to draw their attention. Nodding to the Assassin next to him, the man pressed himself up against the side, ready to strike. Before the Monks got there, Dezeroth whispered quietly, "Ensure you do not step into this area." The other three nodded, and the pair stood a little ways' back from the Assassin, so as to not be seen. The Archer took stance behind Dezeroth, who himself was standing behind the pair.

(Map has been updated with a second room. Once the Infiltrators actually enter the room, I will give a better description of it)

The monk at the dining table blinked at the sound he heard, turning in his seat towards the entrance. His eyebrow rose as he saw the pool of some liquid near the exit to the outside, reminding him somewhat of slightly blood-tainted water. Frowning, the monk rose and moved to the puddle, watching it as it came down the stairs. He heard something behind him and looked towards his companion, who was now entering the room from the eastern door.

"Juri, come here for a moment," the monk requested. The other monk set his own tray of food down on the nearest part of the huge table and joined the first monk, peering at the liquid as well.

"What the hell is this stuff?" the one called Juri asked, looking up the stairs.

"I don't know, but a noise came from up there... I don't like the look of it," the first said, staring concernedly at the liquid.

With a distraction now in place, and the obvious sounds of people nearby, he whispered into it "Blosmaqueo Expanods'Animu, Animu'Friroza." Finally, he leaned barely outward, just enough to point toward the entrance and, most notably, toward the shadows of what he assumed were more monks. The Plasma seemed to burst outward, now, like some sort of disgusting, magical slug, seeking to wrap itself about them before freezing solid. Immediately, Dez signaled to Ki and Di, who charged, blunt staff leading, down to meet their foes.
Following behind was Shan Krion and Dezeroth, flanked finally by the Archer, bow knocked. As soon as Di and Ki could see their foes, they went to work, Di reaching around Ki to make a sweeping chopping motion at where their heads should be, while Ki brought the bottom end of his staff up into the chin of another. Shan flanked to the other side, stabbing at the other man who had not had his own particular assailant.

Without warning, the two monks found themselves attacked by the liquid, which had formed into some sort of snake-like being. While the first monk was in no position to flee and was wrapped up immediately, the one called 'Juri' managed to leap back quickly enough to avoid being trapped like his friend. The liquid solidified, and the encased monk struggled fruitlessly to free himself. Juri, on the other hand, was about to attempt freeing his companion when footsteps charging down the stairs alerted him to others.

"Intruders in the monastery!" he cried, shooting a burst of flame at the entrance before turning to flee. He attempted to bound over the table, headed for the door at the back of the room. The other monk was trapped still, and would die easily to the Scaravian soldiers.

Upon entering said room, the infiltrators would find a large dining hall, with enough seating for eleven people around a large wooden table. There were doors leading to other rooms on each of the other cardinal directions from the one they had entered through. The door to their left was slightly ajar, while the other two doors were tightly shut.

Eddren

As the fire came through, Dezeroth cursed and, pointing at the fire said "Aeregos!" A strong current of wind pushed through the Mages' body, hitting the flames in an attempt to repel them. Meanwhile, the Assassin pulled back, as did Ki, though Di simply ducked and continued her assault. Ki, recovering, bashed his staff blunt-end first into the face of the Fieran monk, while the Archer lined up a shot on the remaining fleeing one, taking a few seconds to adjust before firing. Meanwhile, the Assassin had ducked down and was now heading to the opposite side of the door currently ajar. Still, though, Dezeroth himself was now batting himself out, cursing, as his spell had caused tongues of flame to lick over the wind and onto his robes. Finally, he pulled them off, revealing a less extravagant set of under-robes, and began batting the flaming ones into the plasma covering the floor.

The encased monk could not stop Di'alan's spearhead from sinking into flesh, even as he couldn't prevent Ki'juro's staff from finishing the job. The fleeing monk, however, could only grunt as, following the twang of a bowstring, an arrow sunk itself into his chainmail-covered back. He stumbled, falling onto the doorway opposite the entrance to the room.

Bracing himself on the tightly closed doors, he quickly slipped inside, biting back a curse as he felt the arrow against the twisting of his muscles. The door closed behind him, barring the way for his pursuers. What lay behind would be a mystery.

Eddren
09-20-2012, 09:50 PM
Dezeroth continued down, followed by his party. Putting a hand to his chin, he frowned, before finally deciding on a multitude of spells which would hopefully do the job. "Disge'viesurro. He pointed to the shadows, and they soon encompassed the entirety of the dining hall. Retreating to the stairs, he thought for a moment, then nodded. They'd probably light fires to try and penetrate the darkness, though magical darkness was somewhat more stalwart. Taking hold of the arm of his Archer, he lead the man back, carefully, to the stairs, having him crouch down next to them. As a sense of direction was difficult to have in such a dark area, he could not point toward where to have the bow readied, but simply to ready it should he see any fire. Creeping about, he nearly stumbled into Shan, who apparently had already adjusted to the light. Whispering a request for directions, the man pointed out where the door the monk had fled into was. With that in mind, they silently called to the warriors, of whom they placed at both sides of the door. The Assassin would take a corner and creep up on them should they enter, and Dezeroth stood in yet another corner, ready to cast or uncast spells as need be.

A long while passed without a sound from the other room. Even the clinking of the monk's chainmail shirts could not be heard. About ten minutes would pass before the door to the room opened slowly, the soft clinking of the chainmail pausing at the doorway. Abruptly, the clinking sound retreated back into the room, where the glow of torches and some other light-emitting substance could be seen. It became apparent that the monks were not about to fight on the infiltrator's terms.

Eddren
09-20-2012, 10:14 PM
The men looked over to Dezeroth and he, feeling more than seeing, their eyes and question, nodded. With a wave of his hand, the spell ended, and the Mage slumped over, spent for the moment. It would be the best he could do to--But there was something else he could do. "Blosmaqueos'Friroza Hapend'aohn." He whispered, before walking over to Ki, the closest to him. Placing both hands on his staff, the plasma on the ground snaked its' way to him, wrapping its' way around Dezeroths' body until it covered the staff at all points save the hands before spiking outward and freezing. Creeping backward, he hid in a corner, so that he could better focus on maintaining the spell. And then they waited.

Jacogos
09-21-2012, 07:27 PM
With the darkness gone, the monks assumed that the infiltrators had moved on to the next room. Cautious, however, the three fire monks exited the other room slowly, peering about and moving towards the door on the right side of the room (from the entrance). If the two spearmen did not jump on them immediately, the monks would see them just as soon.

The monk from before no longer had an arrow sticking out of him, as the other two monks had removed it an cauterized the wound.

Eddren
09-21-2012, 09:50 PM
They both spun out. Ki, with his new magical ice-spikes, stabbed them into the one nearest to him, while Di whirled around and stabbed the spear straight toward the sternum of the one nearest her, before bringing it upward. The Archer, seeing this, starting moving to the side, until he could see down the open hallway, figuring he could take the time it would take the Monk to either attack or run would be enough time to aim. With that said, the first sight of fire or the mans' back would result in a twang from the bow. Both Dezeroth and the Assassin stood in their spots, waiting to make sure that no-one emerged from the other rooms.

Jacogos
09-23-2012, 01:57 AM
The monk Di'alan attacked went down easily, the voulge piercing his chest and slaying him almost instantly. This was the monk that had been injured before. However, Ki'juro wasn't so lucky, as the chainmail prevented the ice-staff from having any killing potential. The staff still hit hard, though, and the monk had to take a moment before he retaliated, a flaming fist aimed at the spearman's gut.

The remaining monk swore and immediately made a bolt for the rightmost door (from the entrance). They needed reinforcements, and the other monks of the monastery apparently were still as of yet unaware of the intruders in the monastery.

Eddren
09-23-2012, 02:07 AM
The Archer took aim for a little longer, before firing. Dezeroth cursed as his man fell to the ground, coughing up blood and holding onto a badly scorched stomach before kneeling down to tend to his wounds. Di, in a rage now, immediately swung her weapon to the right, aiming to decapitate the man before the Assassin joined in, seeing the state of things, and ran to the monk, lunging for his gut.

Jacogos
09-23-2012, 02:41 AM
The monk heading for the door was almost sprinting before he found his acting as a new quiver for an arrow, causing him to grunt in pain. The shot was precise, though, and felled the man cleanly. However, the body's momentum brought it against the door, thudding against the wood loudly.

The other monk, however, was beginning to follow up his punch with a kick to the downed warrior's head, but was interrupted by his head being separated from his body. The warrior collapsed forward, his head rolling away with a fierce expression on it.

Another monk, however, had come to investigate the disturbance at the right doorway. Peering around the wooden door, his eyes widened as he beheld the intruders and, finally, the body leaning against the wood. Swearing loudly, he retreated behind the door, chainmail clinking as he ran.

Eddren
09-23-2012, 02:49 AM
Dezeroth looked over at the door for a moment before sighing. "We'll have to stall for time." He paused for a moment, then smirked. Time to use fire to fight fire..."Blosmaqueos'Percugate Blosma." He pointed at the decapitated head, watching as the blood shimmered into Plasma. "Firanos." He pointed to an area nearby, bereft of any flammable objects, and a small fire started there, purple. "Area'Blosmaqueos Fira'over steclo." He pointed to the area over the fire, where the plasma hovered.
The plasma quickly, odd as that was, evaporated. Even more odd, when it did so, it turned instantly into a fog. When this was completed, Dezeroth pointed from the staircase to the open hallway. "Aeregos." The mist blew into the hall, obscuring the area between, before the Mage fell to his side, propping himself up with one arm before motioning to the Archer. "I know you can't see a whole lot more than shadows, but try to make your best guess on when a Monk enters, and fire at what you suppose'll be a weak shot. I know it's tough, but you're the best out there. Only you can do it." He nodded to the other two; the same went for them. They had to be ready to strike at anything that emerged.

Jacogos
09-23-2012, 04:17 AM
No monks emerged from any direction as the monastery slowly grew quiet. However, that silence was soon broken as a rumble shook the room. The volcano seemed to be waking, the rumbles seeming to originate more from the right doorway. After a moment, the rumble ceased, though the silence seemed much more foreboding now.

Eddren
09-23-2012, 04:20 AM
Dezeroth was, by nature, a careful man. He wasn't one to take unnecessary risks. However, if an enemy were to enter into the room, seeing foes with their backs turned...He looked over at the Assassin, before nodding toward the small spot nestled next to the entrance, where someone could safely hide from a foe until they entered the room. The mage would be able to siphon some of the mist to help their cause; that would be no problem. However, preparing ambushes was the only way they were going to live.

Jacogos
09-23-2012, 04:34 AM
After a moment, it was Di'alan who broke the silence.

"Sir, maybe we should at least try to check the other rooms...?" she asked, keeping her voice low enough not to be heard from any other room. Ki'juro looked at her for a moment, but said nothing, still a bit in pain from his burn.

Another rumble followed her question, a bit more violent than before. Whatever was happening seemed to either anger the mountain that the monastery was built in, or was calling on its very essence.

Eddren
09-23-2012, 06:43 AM
Dezeroth thought for a moment, quietly. "I believe you are correct. However...We may want to approach this carefully. Shan Krion, take position by the door. Al'jun. Stay in position. Di'alon, Ki'juro, come with me. I hope I am not correct in my assumption." Standing, he made his way, wincing, toward the right room. He didn't like splitting his forces, but he didn't like giving the enemy the advantage, either. Carefully, Di and Ki eased their way into the room, Dezeroth in tow. I should hope that these aren't the Golems we've come to discover the secrets of.

09-23-2012, 07:46 PM
The next room revealed itself to be a living quarters. On each side of the hallway, open doorways revealed small single-person rooms, only the bare necessities decorating each one, as was common in many monasteries. None of the rooms seemed occupied at the moment, as it seemed any monk that had been in the room had vacated the area.

However, on the far side of the room was a mural depicting a rising phoenix spreading its wings across the wall. Beneath the phoenix was a human-shaped mound of what appeared to be lava, its arms reaching up to grasp at something held in the phoenix's claws.

Another rumble seemed louder than before. It was apparent that they were getting closer to the source of the disturbance, though whether that was a good thing or a bad thing was yet to be seen.

(Opening Post has been updated with a new map.)

Eddren
09-23-2012, 09:02 PM
The three hurried down the hallway, though the spearmen ahead made sure to check the rooms for enemies, of course. As they neared the mural, Dezeroth examined it, specifically looking at whatever it was that the lava-thing was reaching.

Jacogos
09-23-2012, 09:53 PM
Up close, the mural seemed much more lifelike than previously thought. The painting seemed to have excruciating detail put into it, features like the phoenix's feathers and the lava of the golem seeming to be actually burning.

Upon closer inspection, the object between the legendary bird's talons seemed to resemble a ring, which actually held a small indentation in the mural. A discerning eye could tell there was a slight bit of scorch marks around this indent, and it would feel slightly warmer to the touch than the rest of the mural, which already was hotter than the surrounding wall.

Eddren
09-24-2012, 02:59 AM
Dezeroth recognized the signs. This ring meant magic. It meant fire magic, and, unless handled carefully, could possibly scorch him to death. Unfortunately, there were no Firanos with him, so he could not ask them to sense if there was any fire flowing through it. And his Magic worked partially by feel, but mostly by formula--He'd need the strength of a Firanos Magician to see the flow of fire. So, raising the waterskin, he muttered. "Aque'Friroza Anima'Pendahan." He clapped his hands together, dropping the waterskin. The water flew out of it, wrapping around his hands. He separated them, and they formed into a thin layer of frost. Then, grabbing the ring carefully, he pulled it back, leaping back as soon as he had a hold on it.

Jacogos
09-24-2012, 05:35 PM
Nothing happened. The 'ring' did not even come away. This was not the way to pass. A heavy tremor shook the mountain, however, enough to almost unbalance any of those in the monastery.

Figuring this might also be a design meant to keep all but the Firanos out, he thought for a moment, before taking another step back, and pointing at it. "Firanos." Fire lept to life around the ring, "Aeregos." A cone of flame now assaulted the ring as wind flowed through the flickering light. Di and Ki looked at him, curious. "Sir...Are you sure this will work?" To this, Dezeroth shrugged, replying "Oftentimes, magic does not act as intended. I do not pretend to understand the functions behind Firanos' mechanisms."

As the fire met the inside of the ring, the entire mural flashed red before the wall began to part open at the middle, sliding the two halves into the walls beside them. It opened into a large room that greeted them with a rush of heat, as it was lit by nothing but the lava that pooled below the rock.

The room was a large dome, most of the 'ground' being molten lava which gave the room an intense heat. After entering, the floor gave way to rock, which came out over the lava in a large circle, the walkway being only a few feet across. Platforms moved out over the lava at the right and left and directly in front of them, acting as pedestals for something. On the far side, another much larger platform went out over the center of the lava. This platform was at least fifteen feet across, with a two-foot hole in the center.

At the three smaller platforms, the remaining three monks sat meditating, apparently lost in their chants. Standing behind the hole of the center platform, however, was the Golem Tamer himself. Tai'yon Torsa stood with his arms outstretched and held slightly upward, an aura of fire surrounding him. He smirked slightly when the Infiltrators opened the door, immediately aware of their presence. However, most likely it was none of this that caught the eye of an entering person at first.

Nay, instead, what drew the attention of all was a massive orb of lava that hung in midair above the center of the room, at least ten feet in diameter and growing slowly. It hung far above the 'floor', dripping flecks of lava back down into the pool through the hole in the center dais. From different points of the lake of lava strings of the molten fire rose up and joined into the ball, adding to its mass slowly. The orb trembled, sending another rumble through the mountain.

"So... Scaravus has a backbone after all..." Tai'yon said, somehow demanding to be heard over the rumble of the orb above him. The man stood at least six feet tall, cloth wrapped around his head and eyes to hide his ruined features. Like most other monks, he wore no chest armor, but instead had a chord with a glowing ring about his neck. His pants appeared to be cloth as well, though a fleck of lava splattered the material and did not burn it. Long ebony hair was tied back in a pony tail that barely reached his shoulders, and his hands were wrapped in cloth as well. Slowly lowering his arms, Tai'yon stepped over the hole easily and came to the side of the platform closest to the entrance to the room.

"Welcome, intruders," he continued graciously. "I see you've made yourself comfortable. Tell me, did it bring you pleasure, slaying my faithful followers? I've heard the Scaravians are a bloodthirsty lot, though you can hardly take everything at face value..."

Dezeroth shrugged, then pointed a thumb backward. "Ki, go grab our friends. Something tells me we'll need them here. Tell them to fill their waterskins, as well." He thought for a moment, looking over the battlefield before him. "As for killing your men? No. Not particularly." He didn't expect to really get much in the way of conversion from these men; they were too closely tied to the Pheonix King for Dezeroth's words to reach them, but he did hope to stall them. Putting his arms behind his back, he thought a moment. The lava had many of the same features as water, but the Mage didn't know if something that dense was within his power to control. Nor did he know if the man was even capable of being harmed by his own element...

"Not particularly? So what is this, the necessity of war? You're a fool, then. My death will not stop Firanos, any more than yours will stop Scaravus. Turn back now and leave us to mourn our dead, or else we will mourn by burning their slayers' alive," Tai'yon said, fire coming alive in his hands. The other monks continued their chant, not focusing on the intruders whatsoever.

The ball of lava, however, continued to grow. As it did, the rumbling became more frequent.

Dezeroth looked at the man coolly, "If you were but members of an ordinary society of monks, I would have simply asked for the secret, nothing more, nothing less. It was not the necessity of war; no, it was by your own choice. you chose to learn an art so lethal that men would stop it from spreading to protect their own." As before, Dezeroth did not for a moment believe the man was going to turn to his cause. Raising his hands, he prepared to let loose a hail of ice; not particularly deadly, but enough to negate the mans' own fire, and possibly even enough to push him back. It didn't matter. The Mage was simply stalling for time. He'd almost be worried...Except for the fact that he wasn't, of course.

"And you chose the foolish route of attempting to stop it. Submit to your fate, Scaravian, and be purified through fire," Tai'yon answered, backhanding the air before him. The burst of fire that ensued from the maneuver was more than a match for the blizzard, melting the ice and evaporating the proceeding water before it even got within a foot of the man.

Smirking, the blind monk leaped forward, clearing the monk on the southern platform and landing a few feet before Dezeroth, assuming a battle stance. He was prepared to take on the entire group of infiltrators alone, and he was completely assured of his own victory. However, he did not press the attack, instead waiting for them to act first.

Which was completely fine with Dezeroth. As he had yet to actually cast a spell, the stuff hadn't exactly come off of his hands. It was still there, and still quite magically frozen. Blinking, the Mage gave him an odd look. "What are you smirking about?" It was unusual to see someone seem so superior after waving around a form of magic he'd repulsed only several times before. He looked about the area, then smiled inwardly. There was the sound of footsteps. Hurried footsteps. He raised a hand, not even looking back; it was a signal he'd oftentimes made with the others, so that they'd know when to stop, and for the Archer to know when to take aim. Stepping back and to the side, he motioned to the monk. "Mirroew'Aeregos friroza." An arrow flew by, and the enchanted frost covered it, freezing the arrow in a case of magical ice. "Toss me a waterskin!" He called, which was shortly followed by a waterskin landing at his feet. Shortly followed by another two. Dezeroth grinned, now. This man didn't know it, but he'd made a great mistake in waiting. The Mage was not the one to be feared; he was simply a catalyst for the group. The true person--No, people--To be feared were those he had lead on this mission. Expecting that the man would be thinking he'd use some sort of complex spell, Dezeroth instead pointed to the necklace he wore. "Magorpial'Aeregos, Casmagus." With that, the monk would feel a sharp tug at his neck, as the Mage pulled at the ring on his chest.

Noticing the flames of the individuals behind the man before him stopping, Tai'yon was quick to anticipate a sort of ranged attack. Mirroring Dezeroth's sidestep, the Tamer felt the woosh of the arrow fly by with a quiet grunt before resuming his stance with a now stony expression on his face.

The ring about his neck would not budge however. It seemed to resist magic used against it.

With another grunt, Tai'yon now began his initiative. Moving forward a step, the mage-monk pushed his hands out in front of him, sending a wave of fire at Dezeroth and only at him. Next, the monk leaped forward and placed himself between Dezeroth and his companions, punching three times and sending that many individual jets of fire at the three closest infiltrators.

Meanwhile, the ball of lava was now almost large enough to engulf an Aeregosian wyrm, rumbling so violently that rocks began to fall from above. The three monks now stood, a red glow about their hands as they began chanting at an audibal level. Though their words sounded to be gibberish, they were spoken at a frenzied pace.

Dezeroth raised his own hands, "Aqueos." The water rose up, quickly evaporating at the touch of the flame, until Dezeroth said a new phrase....Chanted, really. "Areaque'Friroza." Before bringing his hands down. The water vapor would freeze, descend back down, and hover around the fire.
This took a little too long for one blast of fire, however, so the only thing that REALLY saved Di from being burned to a cinder was her brother pulling her to the side. Immediately, however, they charged through the frost created by the mage, staff whirling in defense while Di's voulge sook its' target. Behind Dezeroth, nestled in the shadows, the Archer prepared another arrow, moving around to get a good angle on the monk. Shan was creeping up, trying to use the distraction of the battle to get at an open spot on the monk.

Tai'yon was slightly surprised that the man so easily countered his attack. However, he had not the time to think on it before he was set upon by two flames, one apparent wielding a stick while the other... Tai'yon was slightly surprised when a blade nicked him on the arm, with the flame so far away. A spear. Hopping backwards, Tai'yon sent a plume of fire between him and the spearmen, blocking them off for a moment.

At that moment, Tai'yon made sure that he kept tabs on all the infiltrator's flames before him. There were four advancing, while a fifth stayed back, motionless. An archer, if he was to guess from that last arrow. Slamming his feet on the ground, Tai'yon engulfed himself in flame, the fire apparently not harming him. Roaring out, the blind monk launched himself past the four others, aiming directly for Al'Jun. He would be aiming to engulf the man in fire as well, though he was prepared to dodge an arrow should the man fire it defensively.

Behind them all, the sphere of lava was beginning to descend. As it did, the rumbling increased to nearly earthquake status as the ball began to take a shape. The monks' chanting was filling the room, somehow still audible above the rumbling.

Shan was surprised to see a flaming monk fly past him, though certainly he wasn't going to stop him, even as Di and Ki threw themselves out of the way. Dezeroth turned to look at where he was heading, and frowned. He was heading straight for Al'Jun. There would be no way to save him...Unless....Pulling out his cane, he unsheathed the sword, pointing it at the Monk. Pointing his other hand at the archer, he shouted "Aeregos!", a strong gust of wind knocking the man off kilter. He released the arrow at that moment, so it went a little high, however, he was blown back a good five feet...Hopefully enough to save him. Returning his attention to the monk, he quickly went through the verses. "Aerefios'Blade, Restnomov'Hilt. Aeregos Miroe!" The sword crackled with electricity before shooting at the Monk at a speed slightly slower than an arrow. Dezeroth fainted on the ground.

Di and Ki turned to look at the Monks, before deciding maybe they should deal with that issue. Caught in confusion on whether to attack the Golem Master or the Monks, they watched as Shan Krion finally took action, throwing his dagger at the blind Monk before turning and deciding they needed to stop the chanting. Experimentally, one of them threw an empty water-sack at the Monks.

The arrow missed, sadly, Tai'yon continuing forward with vigor. However, Tai'yon had stopped himself where the archer had been, surprised that the man had been able to move back so quickly, though the stirring air told him he had been blown back. Growling, Tai'yon breathed in and exhaled a plume of fire at the archer, then turned towards the others while continuing the firebreath. He would-

The electrically charged sword pierced the man's bosom, electrocuting him and cutting off the fire as it did so. The Golem Tamer spasmed as the charge went through his body, bleeding as well from the sword that bloomed from his body. Coughing up a bit of blood, the man toppled forward, landing on the hilt of the sword that sent it even further into his body. A blade wet with blood stuck through from the other side, dripping the Firan's life juice.

The monk that had had the water-sack thrown at him didn't even flinch, his eyes rolled into the back of his head as their chanting reached its climax. The spell manifested, and all three fell backwards, unconscious.

In the center of the room, the ball of lava had formed into a humanoid shape (http://storage.koinup.com/110220x353241/353241-6.jpg), hardening in places and still molten in others. The golem roared its anger, peering at the forms of the humans before it. Still roaring, it moved forward, walking over the lava as if it was flooring. Without the Golem Tamer, it would simply rampage, killing everything. The unconscious monk in front of it would never know what happened before he was consumed alive by the molten fire.

NOTICE: Tai'yon is dead, and the secrets of taming golems dies with him.

Dezeroth wasn't conscious to see the fall of the man, but he was shaken awake by Shan. Looking drearily at the Golem, he shook his head, whispering "...His body...Grab it...Golem Tamer...Extraction is done...Mostly failed...But...Ring...Important somehow...Research...Key..." Before falling back into unconsciousness. The assassin blinked, but looked over to the Archer to notice...That he was currently batting out flames from his clothes. Gesturing to the spearmen, he ordered them to retreat, then turned the body over, removing the sword. Quickly, he searched for the ring, snapping it off of the mans' neck.
Hesitating for a moment, Shan ordered the spearmen and the Archer to take both Dezeroth and the Golem Tamers' body with them and retreat--That he'd be joining them soon. Looking at the Golem, he shouted "STOP!" While holding out the ring. It probably needed some source of fire so, quickly, he lit up a match and held it to the ring.

With all of the other monks dead, there was nothing preventing them from escaping the monastery. They merely had to outrun the golem, which wouldn't listen to anything anyone had to say, ring or no. Roaring, the beast attempted to grab Shan, but the assassin slipped away. Cursing, he gave up and turned tail, leaving the golem to thrash about in the halls of the monastery.

Once they were all outside, there was another rumble and a deep crashing sound from within the monastery. It would seem the rock had caved in on the underground construct. It was over, then, and the Scaravians could only return home now.

Dezeroth woke up several hours later, managing to weakly ask what they had managed to do. Shan Krion informed him that they were on the way back to Scaravus territory, and that they had the body of the Golem Tamer, as he had requested. That the Ring had not, in fact, stopped the Golems...Which meant the obvious answer was that there was more to this Golem Taming business. The Mage shrugged, then stood and ordered the body be laid down--The squad stopped in its' tracks and watched as the Mage copied the runes from his wrist onto the ground around the man. When he was finished with his meticulous work, he took his sword--Also retrieved by Shan--And stabbed it through the hole that had originally killed the man. Closing his eyes, he chanted,

"Meragia, Meragia, recotre mehare."
"Meragia, Meragia, recotre mehare."
"Mortabohi'Meragia unwinto me."

For about an hour, he chanted this. As he did so, he glowed purple, even as the mans' body glowed red...Slowly, the aura about the dead body raised, before shooting itself into his eyes. Dezeroth staggered back, crying out and holding his eyes...Memories did not surge through his head, as he expected. Rather, he was greeted by...Fire. Hanging in the form of a ring. In mid air. Surrounded by blackness. Simply flowing in a ring. Opening his eyes, the ring took the shape of reality, and was worn around the neck of the Assassin. Blinking for a moment, he held out his hand. "I believe...That would be more effective in my hands than yours."

The man blinked, but gave it to him. The mage turned, and, eyes staring toward their home, spoke quietly. "We return home. We did not accomplish what we had set out for, but we have gained a powerful artifact, a new ability, and have slain a dangerous foe...Who could create more foes still. Perhaps the Prophet will be displeased. But I will take the responsibility for it; you all are to be commended."
