Eartia: The Landing(PG-13)

Welcome to Eartia! This is a futuristic sci-fi rp based on humans inhabiting a new world. This RP will be focused around us entering a new world and colonizing it while exploring the strange new wonders it offers. This rp, while in the sci-fi genre, will more realistic than fiction. But don't worry, we will encounter a lot of cool and amazing stuff that our scientists would think impossible and learn just how limited our knowledge of the universe really is.

In the year 4110, Earth had received a report of a rogue planet entering our solar system. The presence of the monstrous planet, which was a little larger than Jupiter, spelled imminent doom for Earth as eventually it's gravitational effects would knock all the planets out of their orbits, making them either fly into the sun or knock them away from it, causing them to freeze, that is if it didn't crash into them head on. Either way, Earth would no longer be able to support life very long.

So the world's greatest minds started working on a ship, a large spacecraft powered by Solar Sails and regenerative life supporting technology capable of holding around 80 people. The sent 20 of the world's greatest minds and their families, totaling 56, to begin the journey to the closest habitable planet they knew of, the world of Eartia-E701C, so that our race may live on.

This RP will take place about 2,500 years into the future. Our characters will be the descendants of those who left earth on a spacecraft a few hundred years prior, so we will never had been on earth and thus be different from regular humans. We are more susceptible to colder temperatures, can breath in a variety of similar atmosphere, such oxygen rich or carbon rich atmospheres etc. The main thing is that we can adapt more easily to alien conditions, with in limits. The planet would have to be similar to earth. That is how we are able to survive on this new planet with out dying the minute we step off the spacecraft. lol.

Here is what we know about the new planet, which is named Eartia-E701C(Or just Eartia for short).
1. It's what is called a super-earth, roughly 4.5 times the mass of earth and about 2.3 times as large.
2. It's gravity is approximately 1.3 times denser than earths, meaning things will weight slightly more there and we'll have some trouble walking at first.
3. The planet is farther away from its sun, which is about the same size as ours, but the atmosphere is 2.7 times more dense than earth's so we won't freeze to death.
4. Surface temperatures range from, on average, -42 degrees F in the winter to 76 degrees F in the summer.
5. The Land to water ratio is about the same as Earth's, 2.7-7.3(earth is 3-7), so there is a lot of water.
6. Sodium levels of the lower troposphere are 22% lower than Earth's so it is believed the oceans won't have as much salt as Earth's.
7. Its days are 38 hours and its year is 422 days.

The planet is a lot like earth, just a few minor differences, like the temperature being colder, the air being different, but not all together alien to us. Like with cigarette smoke or tear gas, once you spend enough time in it, you can breath without coughing. It'll be less than that here, though, it's an Oxygen rich atmosphere, but carbon levels are a wee bit higher, but nothing fatal. The main thing is that it's going to be different for us, especially since we have never been on a planet before and artificial gravity would only prepare us so much for the real thing. So a little coughing and wheezing and people falling down like toddlers learning to walk are mainly what we'll be faced with at first.

Nanites in our bodies will help though, making us adapt quicker so it only takes like a day or so instead of weeks, mainly with walking and temperatures though, breathing will be pretty easy for us since living on a ship our whole lives will give us a tolerance of higher carbon levels, the main thing affecting our breathing will be atmospheric pressure and gravity. But like I said, it won't last all that long, we can't very well survive if we're struggling just to stay on our feet.

Other than those few things, not much else is known. Is there life? If so, what kind of life? Will we be able to prosper and make a new name for humanity? Or is history doomed to repeat itself while we make the same mistakes our ancestors did? Other than that, this RP has no solid plot as of yet. I am leaving it that way as I want to try something new. Everyone has an equal say in what happens, everyone will help shape the future. I will not be doing much GMing aside from making sure people follow the rules and such and maybe a surprise here and there if things start to get stale.

Rules:
1. No god-modding, power playing, etc. without permission. (Note: As GM I reserve the right to god-mod to progress the story or to spice things up a bit, but it won't happen often, if at all.)
2. Only humans are allowed. There is one Android character, but that spot is taken.
3. Keep things PG-13. No heavy cursing. A few curse words here and there are fine, but please use discretion. No Sex scenes. If you want to have a romantic encounter, please fade to black and leave out the details. No gore or overly graphic violence. That means no blood and guts flying all over the place.
4. Be respectful and friendly to everyone both IC and OOC. If you want to have a rivalry with someone, please get their permission. If you have a problem with someone, please PM me about it.
5. GM's word is law. I won't be doing directing, as I want everyone to have an equal say in what happens in this RP for the most part. But if I say something is gonna be this way or that, that's how it's going to be. Just know I don't normally do that unless conflict arises in the rp. :)

Occupation: Exobiologist and Chemical Engineer.
Description: 6'10, slim, athletic build, light-brown hair that falls to the middle of his ears, hazel-green eyes, wears jeans, button-up shirts, and a white lab coat.
Personality: He's a really down to earth guy who with a lighthearted personality. He has a pretty easy going manner and an odd sense of humor at times. He as pretty agreeable at most times, but he's a realist to a fault and isn't afraid to tell it like it is.

Bio: As everyone, he was born on Hope, the name of the ship. Since he could remember, he had always been the most eager to see the world they were headed to. He considers himself, and everyone else, extremely lucky to be the ones that will finally arrive at Eartia-E701C, seeing as most of their ancestors were long dead on the long journey. He considers it a privilege to have been born when he was and not before, so that not only would he get to see Eartia, but be able to spend the majority of his life making a life their.

Wanting to make the most of his life their, he took a heavy interest in Exobiology so he could learn as much as he could once they landed. He was a fast study, surpassing even his father, to become the Lexo(Lead Exobiologist) as well as the Alche(Assistant Lead Chemical Engineer), thus making him one of the key people for making sure everyone survives on the planet. But though he doesn't show it, despite all the excitement of venturing into the new world, he often has doubts and worries of whether he can live up to everyone's expectations or let down all those who depend on him.

This articulately made android is a second generation meaning his athletic 6'8" build was made to fit as a medium with the crew's massive height. His skin is made of a special elastomer material which is an update unlike the first generation who only had basic rubber skin. The artist behind the creation didn't state as to why he made the skin so soft since this model wasn't made to be disguised as a human and was openly known as an android. Many suggest it was artistic freedom.

Bio:
As the ship's on-board 2nd Gen. Android, he acts as a servant to the crew as well as a physician, biologist, researcher, navigational officer, and technician. Since he is mechanical, he is also able to carry around heavy objects for the crew with ease thanks to his great strength.

His past, however, was nothing more than years of isolation as he was educated of the world around him such as historical documents and other respected information that would benefit him. Once that long process was complete, he then began his journey among the crew. Course, thanks to his incredible longevity, he has been around for several hundred years and is fluent with the ship and crew.

Though it was hard at first to befriend everyone as he did not share feelings nor interests with anyone, only logical and amicable responses would suffice until they all became sympathetic towards him as well as content with his uplifting personality.

In Max's recent break time, he started to garner interest for fine arts. Now he practices with painting past images from his memory chip and displays his work around the ship, hoping to lighten the place a little.

Occupation: Weapons specialist, inventer/tester
Discription: is of standing at about 6' 11" his eyes where replaced, giving him an eery appearance-even to himself every now and again. his right and left arms have been replaced with those of a robots. wears an armored uniform, to help protect against acidents with weapons.
Personality:cold and calculating, but only due to the cybernetics in his body. he tries to fight this image of himself as he is in reality a very light-hearted guy. up-beat and fun to be around, when given a chance. after all first impressions are not all that a person has to offer, especially when seen from afar he is like a dog in that he is extremely loyal to those that he likes, as well as those he has strong bonds to. if they are unhappy, he will try to cheer them up. no matter the cost.
Bio: while born on the ship, He had always liked the very old holo-movies about war. as soon as he was able, he took apart as many weapons that he could find, and put them back together again. he took to modifing the weapons, as well as designing his own. before he was assigned a job, he requested to be in the weapons division. It was accepted.

Once, in an experiment, He was testing out a plasma weapon, when it blew up, removing both of his arms, and nearly destroying his face. Thanks to the medical lab, He survived, but was unconscious for a few "days" when he woke up, he requested to be given artificial arms, so that he could be even more successful in his endevers, as with hands that could bend in any direction he could fix any problem that arouse with ease. He then took more care to test safely, slightly, but still more than he had been. He has also modified his arms, to include a few of his personal favorite tools. These tools include: a wielder/flamethrower, an assortment of wrenches, and a few drill/screwdriver/socket wrench fingers.

Awesome character. Just the guns coming out of his arms seems a little much. Wielder is fine, but the all those other things would be a tad over the top. Trying not to be too high-tech. I mean, we will have the technology, but we won't be using it much except at the beginning. Our main technology will be drilling machines and stuff on the ship like radios and stuff of that nature. lol. :P

Occupation: Healthcare/Microbiologist

Personality: Elena is an odd sort and notices things about places and people that others would easily overlook. That doesn't mean she speaks about them, however. She prefers to be silent unless necessary. Some people call her 'mousey'. She is patient and quiet and most people would walk right by her without a second glance. Unless they had an appointment and she was running behind schedule.

As a woman, she is insecure. As a scientist and doctor, she is quite a force. Though normally aloof from others, if they come to her as a patient seeking advice and then do not follow her advice... they will definitely hear about it. Or if someone challenges something she believes in, they will hear about it. Other than that, she will tolerate most anything.

She is a bookworm and her quarters have stacks of books... everywhere. Books ranging from the Bible, books about the universe, textbooks, novels, biographies of people who once lived on Earth, to old electronics manuals. These are all treasures to her since paper is not used much. She was fortunate to obtain these and revels in the history not only written inside the book, but the history of where they have been and what they have been through to get into her hands.

Appearance: Elena is an average height of 5'5", but petite in frame at only 120 pounds. She was normally too focused on study to bother with eating much, even as a child. She wears thick framed glasses over her light blue eyes. She could be described as beautiful-- if she put effort into her appearance. Showering and the brushing of her long dark hair is about all the beautifying she does. Her loose and baggy sweaters, often a grey or dull color, are covered by her lab coat most of the time.

Bio: Elena is a doctor and microbiologist, determined to condition all humans to life on Eartia. She is responsible for immunizations, gravity simulations, and overall health for the new party that is going down to Eartia soon. It is unlikely that she will join them. (Going to add more to this section)

All looks good except a few minor details, like her parents being on Eartia. No one has been there yet, we'll be the first. lol. And everyone is just on the one ship. Even my character's parents are still on the ship. :) But other than that everything looks awesome.

Description: Kathy’s a small woman, not much taller than 5’ 6”. She’s not the fittest woman in the world, having spent most of her time in the colony designing suites of the ship. Her eyes are hazel in colour. Her black hair, usually held in a ponytail, has a fringe cut just above the eyebrows. Usually she is found wearing a white shirt, long grey skirt, flat black shoes and a grey jacket.
Personality: In certain respects, Kathy is an uptight person, seeming to have a one track mind. This isn’t the case, but as she is constantly thinking and a supremely focused woman, she has no time for distractions. She takes particular care in her work, and tries to plan for every eventuality.

She is an educated woman, who prefers history to the present, often looking for examples in the past, to help her with problems. This can often make her seem old-fashioned, which she is. She’s an avid reader, and although she is fully qualified for her job, still considers herself as a student.
Bio:
Kathy, being descended from the people formerly known as Americans, has colonising in her blood. Throughout her childhood and her adult life, she prepared herself for the job she hoped would be hers. She hoped to become a colonist, one of the many roles which would be opened up, once on the planet. Being a colonist, she would personally oversee the creation of their new home, and make sure it was done correctly. Like her ancestor, who helped colonise the ancient city of New York, she hoped to help create an equally great city.

As she grew up, she decided to specialise in architecture, which would allow her to make her mark on the colony (and hopefully the future city) and immortalise herself throughout history. Unfortunately for Kathy, she made a discovery which could’ve potentially ruined her chances. Her ancestors aboard the ship had already primarily planned out the settlement, having had the time to each put in their “two cents”, there was very little room for her to put in her ideas. Unless she wanted to insult other descendants on the ship with her alterations (to input her own ideas), she had no choice but to repeatedly go over simulations of the would-be-colony, and repeatedly check that the plans were sound. Unfortunately they were.

Though she was disappointed that her ambitions would perhaps never be fulfilled, she still hoped that she would eventually find a way to make her mark, even if it was in small ways. The disappointment was short lived as she stumbled upon a way to make her mark. Kathy took it upon herself to improve the designs of her predecessors, realising that there was always room for improvement, no matter how good the ideas were.

Nah any age is fine. There are children and stuff.

And to everyone, excluding Imp's android dude, when ya step off the ship, remember it's gonna suck for your character. Aching bones, hard to walk and breath at first, etc.

I guess he could try, but his shoulders and upper body would probably give out and keeping balance would be extremely difficult. Also, the blood would rush to his head a lot faster, so even if he could do it, he wouldn't be able to stand it for very long. His arms are a bit stronger than an average human's arms, but nothing like Will Smith from I-Robot or the Terminator or anything like that. lol. But on the up side, he would be able to carry heavier stuff before anyone else so he will be very popular with everyone. Remember, mechanical implants are like the prototypes they actually have today. One arm can curl lift approximately 50-60 pounds and pull lift around 90-110 pounds, which is a bit more than an average human. But since we're in the future, I say make your a bit stronger, made with a new type of metal or something, so maybe give him the strength of an upper-class body builder. So he could curl lift around 80-90 pounds and pull lift around 130-170 pounds lol.

And a reminder to everyone. Remember here, we all weigh a bit more. Right now, until the nanites help us adapt in a few days, what would normally weigh like 20 pounds on earth will weigh around 30 here. And with us, who lived in even lower gravity on the ship where things weigh less, something weighing 20 pounds will weigh like 35 or so, almost double. :P

Just so everyone knows, my character is going to be starting out on the space station. She doesn't want to go out there quite yet, so she will be communicating via intercom or whatever. So if anyone wants to start on the main ship instead of the shuttle, my character will be there to interact with.

Well yeah, yet. Once things get situated enough, I was thinking about making the ship a space station, but that won't be happening anytime soon. We'll still be mostly living on the ship until we get structures built and such. Just remember this RP isn't so much as a technological, space age rp, but more of an exploration type RP. This first chapter we will be mostly searching for the probes that got dumped during the landing because we will need their power cells. But while searching for them, we will run into a lot of neat stuff raging from beautiful to awesome to dangerous to mind-boggling. :D

Well they have had no time to build one. They only just arrived at the planet after traveling non-stop at near antithermocentrical velocity, and they are the only humans to ever arrive there. Remember that their ancestors were rushed off the planet using a lot of technology that was still in prototype stages just so the human race would have a chance, so their wasn't time to build a huge station and send it flying all the way there or whatever.

Remember this was a straight flight, non-stop. So it's just us, the ship, and whatever's on the planet aside from a few small satellite probes sent there a long time ago.

Very athletic, Ana is a tall-legged 5'11'' woman. Very noticable by her red hair and green eyes alone, the firey tongue is a tale-tell indicator of her mood. Having no problem letting others know what needs to be done and by when to keep things going orderly. Her way or the highway plain and simple. Best way to earn her respect is to work hard, and for god's sake don't be the one to screw something crutially important up!

Bio: Born and raised on the ship, she followed in her family's 8 generation footsteps in becomming an archeologist. Taught by her father who was taught by his and so on and so forth she had all their knowledge and then some. Every civilization started from nothing and grew into their own greatness...she knew how and why. Also, like everyone of them, she also was taught why they fell and what they could have done to change their own lives. Just to further ensure the true survival of those like her on the ship who would start again, grow, and thrive in glory!
