Introductions:
Both spearmen and magi were preparing themselves, lining up at the defenses of the Fieran Lowland shorelines. Doubt and fear was reigning supreme. Nobody knew what they were going to be facing when the fog would finally hit their shores. The savannah behind them was what they were protecting, and this rocky beach was their battlefield.

Seron also felt it. With all his battle experience, he had never faced any such threat before. He was doing his best not to show his own doubt, though, for the men relied on him to keep them strong and inspired. The shadows ahead of them held secrets that only the dead knew, and Seron didn’t feel like joining them to ask. His men had to pull together, though. Magi were making beginner mistakes as they practiced and prepared their spells, and that was a liability Seron didn’t need. Taking a deep breath, Seron stood up. “Warriors of Firanos! Why do you tremble?!” His voice rang out over the beach as all eyes turned on him. “We are the avengers of the flame. A little fog shouldn’t be frightening us! Whatever approach, we will wash away with fire and brimstone! Nothing can withstand our cleansing heat!” The men seemed to live up again, gazing up at Seron. “I say we let them come. These beings that seek to instill in our hearts. Let them come, so we can show them the true fire that burns within us! Prepare yourself, men! Prepare yourself for victory!” The army called out Seron’s name and Far’Khira’s in unison.

Seron however, turned to another nearby squire, gesturing him over. “Find Corporal Lolaim. Tell him to come over to me.” The young boy nodded, before rushing off to find Brevsin Lolaim and redirect him to the Fieran commander.

Brevsin came at his command, of course, and his sword-arm, though kept ready, was surprisingly relaxed. For someone who was to face a mysterious enemy, it seemed as though he was prepared to face it. Or, at least, perhaps he was simply not afraid of the death that accompanied such a foe. Flipping the longsword down, he planted it into the ground, his other hand resting on the parrying dagger, should one of those shadow-phantom things show up out of nowhere and make an attempt on Seron's life. "You called for me, sir?"

Seron slowly turned to face his apprentice, his eyes resting down upon him, slowly nodding. "You seek a chance to prove your worth to be my apprentice, am I correct? Well... Lucky for you, you may get this very chance today..." He then turned his eyes out to the looming fog. "Whatever comes out of there, must have a leader... With any army, if you decapitate its head, the body will crumble... When we clash with this unknown foe, I am counting on you to dismantle, or atleast find the 'head' of this army... So we may vanquish it... Am I clear?"

There wasn't much time for Brevsin to answer Seron's request, as haunting, soulless roars emitted from the fog. Seron snarled, focusing on the task at hand. "Stand firm, soldiers! Archers at the ready! Whatever comes our way, we will scorch it down, for Firanos!" The soldiers answered in unison, as a long, unsettling silence followed, interrupted by an occasional distant roar or hiss, and the shakey breath of soldiers. Seron himself slowly inhaled and exhaled, the temperature around them dropping as breath turned to fog aswell, the sky slowly growing ever more troubled. "Keep your calm, men..." Seron whispered in the wind, as the silence was like it was counting down.

"Death... has... come..."

The words were carried on the wind, before the hisses from before suddenly turned to loud, viscious howls and cries, soon followed by the silhouettes of men forming in the fog, as masked beings, seeming almost part of the fog came rushing forth, howling out as soulless warriors as they sported all sorts of weaponry: Blades, axes, maces, ... They came charging as an unorganised mess.

http://dscanio.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/speed_paint01.jpg

"Attack! Archer, loose!" At Seron's command, flaming arrows went soaring through the sky, striking some of the warriors, who seemed to continue their relentless charge, roaring out as their blades dug into the flesh of Fieran defenders, producing sounds of blood splattering and flesh ripping. The spear wielding defenders stabbed forward with their spears, but even as some of their weapons pierced right through the being's bodies, they simply dissipated in smoke, followed by another to soon take its place. The warriors knew no fear, no mercy and no end. With every one that fell, more emerged from the fog, like a black and white taint washing onto the shoreline.
"Fight on, brothers! These cretins are nothing to our flame!" With that, Seron leaped down into battle himself and instantly swiped two of the beasts out of the way, followed by a barrage of flame attacks.

Brevsin nodded, full well understanding the necessity of this mission. Full well understanding the sheer risk of death, as well. So, turning toward the masses, he waited until they charged their lines. If I allow them to slow me down, we will die. It will be as sure as the rising sun. In order to prevail, we must be fluid. In order to kill their leader, we must pour forth every ounce of our being. "Death...Has....Come" But not to Firanos. He replied grimly, from the depths of his mind.
Springing forward, he circled his longsword once in the air. "Swordsmen, to me! We strike through this pallid horde, to the heart of our foes! When one of us strikes, another must leap forward to strike at that which comes to replace it!" Pointing his sword forward, he cried "CHARGE!" Before leaping into the fray, longsword at ready, hand on his parrying dagger, waiting for one of these fell beasts to dare attack him even as he ran forward.

The grim, masked appearances of the mist-bound warriors seemed to have its effect on the men of Firanos aswell, as their hollow breaths and howls echoed over the field. Following the orders of the corporal as close as they could, they tried to hold their ground, constantly switching amongst eachother to take down the never ending horde of beasts.
The flaming arrows that were launched in, however seemed to dissipate into the thickness of the fog, which was seen creeping closer over the land, slowly swallowing the frontiers of the battle, as vision grew ever more clouded.

"Fight on! We must repel them!" Seron called out, lashing with his spear about rapidly, snarling, before his free hand filled with flame, as a ring a blazing fire formed about him, and scorched a number of the warriors in place, but more kept on coming. Snarling, Seron fought on, aswell as the rest of the army, though the casualties continued to rise on the side of the Fieran soldiers. Bones were breaking, flesh was ripping and screams were filling the air, but all those screams came forth from the Fieran soldiers, as not a single sound was ushered when the masked beasts went down, the hissing sound of smoke disipating.
Noticably also was the temperature within the spreading fog was dropping rapidly, as if the land was being transported to the frozen north.

Brevsin would occasionally drop back from the tip of his Fieran spear, lashing out here and there when he saw a soldier in need. Otherwise, he drove his men forward, constantly toward the core of what he sensed to be this feeling of foreboding. "Our foes are silent, men!" He cried out, "So we'll just have to sing, for our fellows! If the enemies will not give us their death-cries as fuel, then we must give our own courage, to all around us!" Well, this may be a bit of a stretch. I'm fairly sure I don't know any songs. He chuckled, "And continue marching forward! We are the flame of the Pheonix! This water will but dissipate before our boots!" As if to compound this, he swung his longsword through one of the Ekro shadows, the dissipation giving solidity to his declaration.

The fog seemed to cause the temperature to drop further and further, to the point where it felt freezing inside the water-filled air. The masked beasts seemed to find no hinder from it, but the Fieran soldiers felt the cold creeping into their bones, however, under the inspiration of the corporal, they kept on fighting. One spearmen came charging forward along with Brevsin. "For Firanos!" The man charged forward, crying out, but seeming to pull to a rapid halt for some reason, his entire body turning motionless.

Before anyone could interfere, patches of ice could be seen forming on the man, as a bright blue light shone on him, before what appeared to be a bright blue glowing scythe smashed the frozen soldier, ripping his frozen body to bits, as blood and gore filled chunks of ice went flying around. Soon, more of the soldiers that had ventured into the ice met the same fate, as something that seemed like shades haunted through the mists, howling in unison, taking out the poor souls one by one.

Seron noticed this and snarled, slashing another beast aside. "Corporal! We must fall back! Whatever is in this fog, it's slaughtering us all! We all too deep in the hornet's nest! We must fall back to the edge of the fog." Just in the nick of time, Seron managed to block a haunted blade, snarling as he blasted the masked beast with a wave of flame.

Brevsin nodded, "Men, move back, but stay together! Our flame is in the midst of ice, and like anything surrounded by its' most hated foe, we must pull together, and fight it with both ferocity and cleverness! Form a circle, blades in front, spears in back! All who strike against us will fade back into the fireless depths from which they came!" With that, he did just as he said, closing ranks with another two swordsmen. A phantom appeared, and his parrying dagger met its' spear, only to have his longsword plunge into it.

The fog however was not going to go easy on the men, as a haunting scream around was suddenly following by the sound of spluttering blood and ripping flesh, as three men's bodies were severed in half, their wounds almost instantly freezing shut, as now, most of the men were almost paralysed in fear of the apparition before them. A ghastly spectre, shrouded in mist-shapen robes, a blackened skull for a face, with a heart of ice beating in its core and a massive, blood dripping scythe of ice.

http://art.ngfiles.com/images/186/generaldracula_ice-demon.jpg

The soulless beast gazed down at the men, before letting out a horrific scream, sending most of the men simply running in fear, though one more was picked off by a spectre appearing from the sidelines. Seron snarled, before backing away a bit, until he found his magi once again. "Men! Rapid-fire into the fog! Take down those shades." The magi corresponded, launching arrays of fireballs into the fog. While the spearmen and swordsmen seemed to get overwhelmed, the fire monks held themselves, constantly tapping into their fire power to distance both the frost spectres and the masked beasts from them. The archers continued firing away into the vast fog.

The first spectre from earlier was gazing down at Brevsin, with its devoid, empty eye sockets, hissing lowly. "Dieeee..." With that, the being extended its hand to send waves of cold running down Brevsin's body, to seek and disable him from doing anything by frozen him solid.

Brevsin had little choice, he knew, but to do or die. His internal fire raged inside his body, but the Corporal kept it in check. It wouldn't do well to give up on my training during the first obstacle! Figuring that mere contact with that scythe would freeze his weapons solid, and by extension, freeze him solid, Brevsin put away his Parrying Dagger and in one fluid motion drew and threw a shortsword at it. Immediately he stepped in, closing the distance and swiftly plunging his longsword toward its' icy heart. Whether this succeeded in wounding the beast or not, he quickly jumped back, hand on his second shortsword.

12-16-2012, 10:52 PM
The spectre let out a loud hiss, the shortsword lashing through the fabric of cloth draped over him, causing the beast to flinch somewhat, before the longsword stabbed into the icey heart, the frozen mass cracking as the haunting being seemed to be the one completely freezing solid now as it screamed out, before smashing down into the ground, shattering into bits of ice.

However, behind Brevsin, two more of these spectres, along with a number of mist warriors were marching up to him, hissing and howling hauntingly in the wind. The two spectres once more extended their hands to try and send waves of cold and chill washing over the man, while the masked beasts approached, blades and axes at the ready.

Seron snarled, noticing the growing force about to lock a large portion of their forces, including Brevsin, in the deathly cold of the fog. "Keep firing!" The magi and archers continued to fire, their flames seeking to penetrate the harrowing chills of the fog. Brevsin was indeed not alone in the fog, as other warriors did their best to fight off the beasts, but left and right, they got overwhelmed, either by the viscious onslaught of masked beasts, or the cold touch of the frost spectres.

"Men!" He cried, "Form on me! We'll form a core and retreat to the safety of our fire magi!" Raising his swords, he hurled himself at the creatures, not daring to stand still for risk of freezing to death. Sweep down, upper-cut, stab, he dodged and weaved around the phantom soldiers, slicing his way. "Any who have weapons that can be thrown, aim for those icy hearts! That is the focus of their chilling power, and a mortal wound there will surely be the end of them!" He cried, even as he parried yet another phantom. He stepped back, now, realizing that wading into these enemies alone would only result in his death. "For Fieranos!"

The nearby soldiers who heard Brevsin's call, and were not so frightened they instantly turned tail and ran for safety, turned to Brevsin and joined himself, forming a protective circle, lashing out and striking at the fiends that sought to take them out. The hollow howls and screams echoed throughout the fog as the viscious beasts sought to claim more souls for their own power. The masked warriors kept on coming, only to be struck down by the enforced bulwark of soldiers that had now formed alongside Brevsin. One thing was for sure: These warriors were only the strong and brave, as all others had either fled, or met a gruesome end. This gave some more insurance, but not much.

Seron snarled, slowly stepping further into the fog to assist his comrades, blasting gouts of flame left and right. "Stand tall, corporal! I'm coming!"
However, all eyes within the fog were drawn to more of the frost spectres appearing, five of them letting out hollow screams and howls as they raced in a viscious circle around, their energies focusing onto eachother, as they could be seen fusing together, viscious howls and screams emitting from their dark ritual.

Seron's eyes widened at this sight, almost letting a masked beast get the better of him, blasting it away. "Corporal! Get out of there! Whatever those beings are doing, it's not good!"

Panic and fear filled the hearts and eyes of even the most veteran warriors that were standing with Brevsin, but awaited his decission. They saw him right now as their beacon.

"Retreat, men! Remain strong, and ensure that nobody leaves injured! Strike wherever another of you cannot strike!" He stared down the spectres, "I'll release the full strength of my flame. Worry not, men, when I return alive and healthy, I'll have shown to true strength of the Pheonix!" That fire which had been roaring through his blood, he now focused into his bracers. Turning to face the creatures, he now exploded it out through his wrists, seeking to open up his inhibitors. At the same time, he rose his longsword and took another step back, Seeking to do what must be done in order to save these veterans. "Remember, we are the heart of the fire! We are Fieranos!"

The veterans nodded, slowly progressing backwards to the safety of their magi, as they tried to get out of there alive while fending off all and any beasts that came for them. The masked beasts however soon focused their attention on Brevsin, seeking to surround him, and block him off from his own troops. However, they were not trying to kill the man yet, but tried to edge him closer to the raging storm of spectres.
As they would try to force Brevsin closer to it, it would become visible to him that in the midsts of this storm of spectres, a single mist warrior stood, slowly absorbing the energy of the spectres. His mist-shapen body could be seen ripping and growing, ice crystals erupting from his flesh, before his mask began to crack, shattering the reveal the warped and twisted expression of an ice demon, howling out horribly. The beast was massive, twice as tall as a full-grown man, with every part of his body sporting sharp ice fragments.

http://th02.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2012/301/f/5/ice_demon_by_xxjocaxx-d5j8zdm.jpg

The beast's eyes turned on Brevsin, as he snarled lowly, before filling his lungs, and letting out a menacing roar towards Brevsin, saliva, flesh and blood alike spewing out through it all. The demonic entity hissed and roared, stomping closer to Brevsin as his sharpened claws came to bare.

Seron could just barely catch glimpses of the beast, snarling. "All warriors! Fall back to defensive positions!" With that, Seron leaped into the fog, sending flames out before him to light the way. "Corporal!"

"Seron, you tasked me with cutting off their head." Click, the bracers released and a gush of flames swept over him. Blue, of course. His tail reappeared, as did the flaming ears. In quick order, he had rearranged the fires, which now swept over his skin and sword. "And that's exactly what I intend to do."
With a burst of blue flame, he cleared the space between himself and the ice demon, swinging his longsword across its' body. Fire gushed from his arms as he sought to hack an opening into it before blue fire burst outward again, pulling him safely back. Looking around at the phantoms, he lashed out with his tail, forcing the creatures back, before regarding the thing before him again. In a fluid motion, he sent his shortsword flying, blue flames licking its' pommel, at the things head, which appeared to be as large as a mans' torso. maybe that'll distract it, he thought idly as he prepared for the worst.

Seron snarled, being forced to pull a halt as a group of frost spectres blocked his way, staying on the move to avoid a frozen death, lashing and stabbing out to crush their cores, while fighting off the masked beasts aswell.

The ice demon simply glared at Brevsin, looking at him engulf himself in flames, before the man came rushing forward with a flaming blade. The ice demon's guts were slashed open, as the beast began to cackle after initially grunting as a result of the attack, but instead of bleeding, what came forth from the wound was nothing but smoking fog, as the wound almost instantly froze over and shut itself again. Soon after that, the ice demon roared out, lashing out for Brevsin to slice him apart, a trembling roar following it.

Seron continued to try and fight his way to the corporal. "Loyalty is useless if your death holds no purpose, fool!" He snarled, the constant barrage of spectres and warriors slowing his advance.

Back in the defensive lines, more warriors and spectres were assaulting the frontier, meeting fire and steel, while occasionally snatching some of the lives of Fieran soldiers.

"Then I'll just have to survive, eh?" He called out, glancing backward at Seron for just a second too long. He did, of course, notice the attack in time to dodge it--A sidestep that allowed for the creature to leave a long gash along his arm.
But Brevsin did not allow this to fully go as an advantage to the creature, striking out with a burst of blue fire streaming around his sword. With his good arm, he hacked downward on the arm, seeking to fully sever it and thus render it useless. Then, stabbing upward from where he had made his initial strike, he used his fire to dash, seeking to carve an enormous wound into and through the beast. When finally he reached point blank, he engulfed himself in flames, grappling onto the things' face with his wounded hand while repeatedly trying to sever whatever bits and pieces he could get to with the other.

The icey beast roared out, swiping around him, as it tried to claw the little wretch on his face away. With one arm succesfully sliced off, the beast tried to grasp onto Brevsin with the other, but was soon sent stumbling back from the fiery slash. In a final attempt to strike at Brevsin, he was pulled to a halt as the human gripped onto his face and started shredding it, as the ice-bound bone that made up its skull was cracked open, revealing a mostly frozen, but pulsating mass inside the being's head: It's brain, or heart, or atleast what it was supposed to be. Even though it was revealed, the beast was far from dead, as he hand reached up to try and grasp onto Brevsin and crush him in his powerful grip, were it not for the timely intervention of Seron. "Corporal!" The Fieran commander came dashing over, slashing his burning spear across the beast's elbow joint, severing its arm like Brevsin had done before him.

"Finish that thing off, Now!" With that, Seron turned to focus on the swarms of frost spectres and mist warriors, creating a funnel of raging flames. In the distance however, frost spectres could be seen preparing the same ritual as before to summon more of the frozen behemoths. "By the flame of Far'Khira..." Seron gazed on as slowly but surely, more of the massive ice demons began forming.

Eddren
12-18-2012, 10:47 PM
He thrust himself forward, propelling himself using his own blue flames before stabbing the sword into the pulsating mass. Slicing horizontally, he jumped backward, landing behind Seron before looking at the behemoths. "Seron. They are still weak to fire. Perhaps if we set our Fire Magi to do that exercise...You know, the one where you enflamed the entire room...Perhaps if we got all of them to do so simultaneously, we could stop them from wreaking havoc. It may even stop the spread of that unearthly chill those phantoms give off." He looked around before finally spotting his bracers, "Either way, I must continue to fight with these on. I exerted too much fire dealing with that beast."

E1Alpha
12-19-2012, 10:54 PM
Seron snarled, shaking his head disappointed. "There's no way we can get back in time to warn them... Plus, they're the ones holding our defensive lines." Nodding firmly, Seron shoved his spear into the ground before him, as the newly formed frozen behemoths marched their way over towards them.
Seron placed his fists against eachother and closed his eyes. "We can however still do that trick... One mage's power may not be enough, but our abilities can amplify eachother." His eyes ignited as he opened them up, his exhaling breath turning to face as the air around the two began to heat up.

Seron was waiting for Brevsin to follow his example, before snarling out as he released the energy stored within him, the very air around them igniting in a blazing fury, washing around. If Brevsin were to help out, it would create a fiery maelstrom, but if Brevsin had other plans, the flames would die out after a short moment, as Seron was still too weakened to hold this up by himself.

Wether the spell succeeded or not, the warriors, spectres and behemoths continued their advance towards the two men.

Brevsin knew this was no time to question orders. If two could do it, then two it would be. The bracers clicked and fell to the ground again, as he released his power. He closed his eyes, pressing his fists together. Focusing all the flames within his body, he pushed his Soul-Fire back within himself, preparing for the vital spell before him. Opening his eyes, blue flames danced within those doorways to his soul.

Brevsin gave a surprisingly feral roar as blue heat exploded out from around him. Cuts opened up around his body, and blood trickled from the initial explosion of such uncontrolled use of his strength. However, it mixed in perfectly with Seron's own. Their Maelstrom was summoned, a purple tint now that his own fire was there to bolster the Generals'. The Corporal was not sure whether or not he'd be capable of living this fight through, as this would result in massive internal bleeding by the end of it unless the battle was won soon, but he was willing to give it a shot.

Seron and Brevsin now stood alongside eachother. It was all or nothing, as the scores of Frost Spectres and Mist Warriors kept on coming, aswell as more Frost Demons appearing. Seron tried his best to maintain his fighting capability, but in the end, he peered onto the fog, the temperatures dropping even faster as a dark silhouette formed.

"Freeze... their hearts..."

Seron snarled, slashing another spectre aside. "Whatever that is, it seems like it's what's leading these things, but we've extended too far. Engaging it here will be suicide. We have to retreat." He waited for his apprentice's answer, before blasting out another wave of fire. "Go!" At that, he turned and made a run for it, hoping that Brevsin was alongside him as they ran back to their troops. As soon as they were in hearing range. "Retreat! Fall back to defensive positions! We cannot take this opponent as of now!"
With the order going out, the soldiers packed up and made their escape alongside Brevsin and their commander, managing to limit their losses very well during the retreat.

"We'll get them... I know we will..." Seron muttered, before moving along with his troops.

Brevsin sighed and shook his head, but found himself agreeing. "I...Suppose you're right. There's nothing to be done about it. I simply do not have enough strength to face it, now." When his master turned and ran, Brevsin followed suit. Once they were within range of commanding those with them, he set about ensuring that the men were orderly in their retreat. "Archers, you first! Rush up and get to higher positions! I want volleys on them the whole way back! Swordsmen, Spearmen, fall back! No, you men over there, you hold! You'll be marching in reverse. Yes, I realize how difficult that is--Do it anyway! We don't want our flank being ripped asunder!" Brevsin knew he was being harsher than he should, but this failure to defend his people struck a chord in his heart, and he had to take it out somehow. Lashing out against the enemy was simply not an option. Pulling up next to Seron, his face contorted with shame from this humiliating blow, he spoke quietly. "...My training needs to be harsher."
