Introductions:
The pristine glade just north of Leongarde would have been filled with a precious silence, were it not for the sound of metal and armor. Leongardian troops, both the mighty Shieldguard and the legendary Lionhearted were preparing for battle. Musketeers had taken up hidden positions, while the rest of the army were preparing themselves, both physically and mentally. While their campaign in the north hadn’t gone as hoped either, their defense against Disgeran was crumbling further and further.

Were it not for the presence of the steel titan, Vanguard, the soldiers would have already turned tail and ran, or surrendered to the mercy of Disgeran. The massive suit of armor had been fully repaired since the last battle, and was ready for battle once again. Birds were stirring from their nests in the distance. The dark shadow in the sky was creeping closer. The soldiers tried to speak themselves some courage in, as they took their positions. The location the Leongardian had chosen as a defensive point was a vast thicket, near the former ruins of a large citadel. The forest gave the Lionhearted a large advantage, as they soon vanished into the trees, taking their positions.

When all troops were in place, the magical glow in Vanguard’s eyes lit up, as the suit of armor stirred to life, before marching like a metal behemoth to the front lines, standing before the mighty shieldguard, who were forming the protective barrier between the battle and the troops behind them. The silent giant let out a whiz of steam, as it simply gazed ahead, as the thudding sound of boots and claws hitting the ground came closer, faster and faster. Until finally, the dark silhouettes of the Disgeran troops appeared. Vanguard rose up his blade, before charging forward. The hidden Lionhearted let out menacing roars, signaling the other troops to kick into gear.

As expected, hordes of heretic footmen came flooding in, soon answered by the sound of flesh being cleaved in half and gunpowder going off, sending heavy pellets digging into the heretic’s bodies. Leongarde was not going to go down without a fight, that was for sure.

With Lion Woods already having turned into a warped and fiendish hellscape, slowly sinking deeper into corruption, the shadow of Disgeran was finally creeping further. The shadows in the sky, signaling the inhuman power of Disgeran’s embodiment of destruction; Cretoris the Nightbringer. He stood on the edge of the woods, gazing out into the territory that soon now be theirs. Warlocks and heretics alike were preparing for battle. Demons were being summoned in place.

By now, Cretoris had absorbed so many souls that his power had become an unstoppable something. He was a juggernaught of death. When he last fought Vanguard, he was at only half the strength he is now. He felt like a demigod. A demigod of complete darkness and destruction. He felt this insane power rush through his being. He knew that Vanguard would be present, and now, he would once and for all prove he was the superior being. With a single glow of his eyes, the darkness in the sky churned as the dark warrior turned to face his forces. “Disgeran! The time has come! Our shadow will destroy the little bit of hope that these Leongardian fools have left! Crush their hope! Demolish their spirit! Obliterate their homes! And erase their existence! Our might shall be proven today! Now charge, you whelps! CHARGE!” With his menacing cry, the heretic soldiers mobilized, rushing as an unorganized bunch into the woods, where they were soon met by Leongardian pellets, aswell as the roaring blade of the mighty Vanguard.

Cretoris simply gazed as he slowly marched forward through the woods, soldiers, both human and demonic rushing past him to do his bidding. Grinning beneath his helmet, the dark goliath silently recited to himself. “I shall be the ultimate being. I shall rise to grand power. I shall be the one and only god this world will know…”

War was a tiresome thing, where men fight men in an endless clash of "who here has the biggest sword?" At present, it might've been a tie between Cretoris and Vanguard, though after the past battle or two, Cretoris's sword was now much more... potent than the same-old same-old blade of the Iron Guard. At least, that was how this lone plaguecaster saw it.

Verminathras was peering at the battle from among the now-naked branches of a tree, the once proud oak having been sapped of nearly all life force by the unholy mage. He watched, judging the battle from afar. Though he was closer to the Disgeran-occupied Lion Woods, somehow he was at a vantage point where the armies met and clashed only slightly off to his right side. It was an interesting sight. Vanguard and Cretoris stood obvious above the rest of their troops. Soon they would clash again, and no doubt Verminathras would be needed there to see that the battle did not swing into Vanguard's favor.

The Leongardians are much better defensively, this time... A more rounded group has been fielded this time around... Verminathras mused, slipping down from the tree with a thud upon hitting ground. Cracking bones with a full body stretch, the plaguecaster sighed as he gripped his staff harder. "We'll have to do something about that," he cackled, hobbling off towards the battle, towards Leongarde's flank. Those gunmen would have to go... as would... well, everyone else. And so Verminathras went forth to find something to kill.

Gyles three eyes scanned out over the battlefield as he loaded a bolt in his heavy crossbow. His position along a mass of Heretic Archers. Fact was however he was so far out of range to any of the Leongarde soldiers. Despite having no clout amongst his fellow archers Gyle tried to persuade the contingent to move forward. Cretoris' call to arms pushed

'C'mon fellows, we need t'git closer to hit those musketeers.'

Sighing Gyle pulled away from the group and began searching for another crowd to fall in line with. Then his eyes rested on the plaguecaster who was beginning to head into the battle. Gossip had reached Gyle's ears early about this monster mage, and if Gyle had any intention to impress the Disgeran forces following behind the plaguecaster seemed like a good idea. Silently he moved through the forces to follow after the undead mage.

Horrific and noble cries and shouts followed eachother, as the two armies finally clashed. The heretic soldiers smashing into the mighty shields of the Leongardian soldiers, who rapidly responded with quick jousts from their swords, cleaving the heretic soldiers aside with relative ease. The whirring metalic golem leading them could be heard moving violently, swiping aside soldier after soldier, even going as far as to grabbing one and crushing him into the dirt. When the ascended soldiers began to make their advance, Vanguard turned his attention onto them, smashing and slashing them aside.
Leongardian musketshots rang through the air, as the heretics fell group by group.

Disgeran had plenty more where those came from. Though useless, the heretics made for wonderful meatshields for Disgeran's more powerful troops, amongst whom was Cretoris. The Nightbringer was making his slow advance to the battlefield, until his eyes locked onto the mechanical beast defending Leongarde.
His eyes glowing with dark energy, the dark knight began to radiate malicious energies again, before he rose up his blade and began to charge forward. "Vanguard! Your end comes!" Shoving heretic and demon alike aside, the black armord harbringer charged forward to Vanguard, who turned to face the oncoming challenger, raising his blade, as Cretoris' blade came crashing down onto it. The two goliaths seemed locked in place, even though Vanguard rose up above Cretoris by more than just a head, their strength seemed more than equal right now, before the dark soldier gripped his blade more firmly and began slashing away at Vanguard, while raising his sword up to parry his opponent's strikes, while Vanguard did the exact same.

Warlocks in the back of the Disgeran forces could be seen conjuring up various spells of their own, sending hellish magic darting through the air to collide with the Leongardian army.

Verminathras continued to make his way towards the Leongarde flank, which was off towards his right side (making the Leongarde army's left side facing him). He noticed off to his left that Vanguard and Cretoris had begun to clash. Marvelous. With any luck, there were no stalwarts that would interrupt them. Cretoris should be able to handle himself alone for the time it would take to deal with the muskets....

It was then that Verminathras noticed he had a shadow. He peered behind him at Gyle, contemplating them man. He was slightly different than most of the rabble he knew of, mostly because he wielded a Crossbow. Interesting... He was a stealthy type, too. The only reason Verminathras noticed him was because of his vermin eyes.

"Care to help with a little job?" Verminathras asked, turning back towards the rear of the Leongarde army. "We're going to be hitting those pesky musketeers... I can point you were to hit them, as well draw the attention of the rear guard away from you," he continued, looking through a crow stationed in a tree. The musketeers were indeed well hidden, but Verminathras could find them. Carrion creatures ran amok in battles such as these. And no one ever thought them then enemy. And that might just be their downfall.

Gyle had thought his sneakiness was doing him quite well. Even so far as pondering of swooping in at the last moment for a piece of glory in the ongoing battle, well at least that was he thinking before Verminathras spoke up and halted his thoughts. Gyle cursed himself for thinking he had remained undetected from the plaguecaster but listened to the offer.

'...Aye dey are a bit of a troublesome lot. 'll give ya a hand, no guarantees I can wipe the whole lot out dough.'

Gyle half smiled at the twisted mage, it seemed he made a good choice in following him. Taking out the musketeers would be a huge win for Disgeran in the battle. The sounds of metal clashing now kept him from getting lost in his thoughts. He could see Cretoris and Vanguard clashing in the distance. The mighty warriors thrashing while both sides smashed into each other. Gyle was never a fan for getting up close and personal...well unless it was to take a prized necklace or other jewellery that would catch a fair price.

'Plaguecaster....they say Vanguard is unstoppable. 'Ave ya ever witnessed his mettle before? 'Ow much truth is 'ere to such legends? Wot I'm getting at should we be worried for our general Cretoris?'

Vanguard and Cretoris remained locked in mortal combat, both armies evading them. The heretic were afraid to get slaughtered in the process themselves, and the Leongardians did want to risk hitting Vanguard and causing him to lose the duel.

The two sneaking Disgerans on the sideline were less aware of their surroundings than they thought. Low snarls came from the shady brushes and shrubs, which made it obvious Leongarde had not left it's flanks undefended. This would soon be confirmed as with a thrundering roar, the mighty Lionhearted warriors came jumping out. Five in total, all of them sporting twin axes. The five beasts instantly surrounded the two, but always stayed on the move to disallow the avatar to get a focus on them. "The plaguecaster who was the cause of Arduin's death! We knew you'd try this trick, you snake! Now feel the wrath of the Lionhearted!"
With that, two of the bestial warriors instantly rushed forward, seeking to bring their axes cleaving down upon each of the two men and sever them in four bits each. Had their attack missed or failed any other way, they would back off again, and instantly have two more rush in to attempt the same tactic, but from different angles.

"We'll do what we can, rogue," Verminathras said, grinning to himself slightly. Those Lionhearted thought themselves so sneaky... "As for Cretoris and Vanguard, our commander will be fine. He is much stronger than he was last he met the golem, though his cockiness might still be his undoing. Should his battle begin to turn sour, I'm sure we will be able to reach him before-"

Whatever the mage was going to say was cut off by the appearance of the Lionhearted. Quicker than he would normally, Verminathras shoved the rogue down to the ground. Immediately afterward, Verminathras unleashed a ring of corruption, which had been building up since he had begun moving. It was parallel to the ground, 360 degrees of coverage, about chest height. It would disperse after about ten yards from the plaguecaster. Cackling, Verminathras continued to move, expecting them to be dealt with immediately. If not, the rogue would get the remainder.

As soon as the lionhearted surrounded the two Gyle's faced soured. How could they have let themselves get overtaken in such a manner. His body tensed as the first two leaped out to deal devastating blows. Gyle's trigger finger pressed against the heavy crossbow releasing the bolt at one of the leaping assailants. Truth be told even a moving target that was coming towards Gyle made for an easy hit usually. He took little time to aim but the bolt flew out lightening fast. The sound of the bolt splitting the small distance between him and the lionhearted was heard by all the other enemies that had gathered around the two. The shot itself looked to pierce the lower chest of the lunging lionhearted. Between the force of the shot and the placement if it wasn't a killing blow it would at least repel the attacker.

Gyle was partially in the motion of slinging his crossbow and drawing the smaller one with a dagger when a boney green hand grabbed his shoulder and forced him to the ground. The plaguecaster had already made his own plans of defense. Gyle could see the wave blast out from the mage towards the other lionhearted. The sight brought feelings of wonder and awe, perhaps even fear to the rogue. His new companion was exceptionally well versed in the arts or magic to be sure. A talent that Gyle could see being a benefit many time over. As he lay on the ground he drew his smaller crossbow and as was rarely the case fumbled trying to load the small bolts.

With one of the Lionhearted shot in the lower chest, he interrupted his assault as he backed off, while the other was struck full on by the corruptive wave. The others were all also struck, all seen suffering from the festering effect of the spell. However, something was different. They were decaying to death, nor did they seem to prepare for death. One of them could even be heard chuckling. "We are more than prepared for you... Hehehe... KHO'RHAS!" The lionhearted called out, before he let out a thundering roar, along with his brethren. The sickening plague infections that were testing their flesh and metal seemed to disipate in a vibrant blue glow. Something was safeguarding them. With this, the lionhearted grinned. Even the one that was shot with the crossbow bolt seemingly standing up like nothing happened, before they once more charged forward. This time three at once. Two aiming to slice Verminathras down to size, while the third was going for Gyle. Once their strikes had hit or missed, they would retreat and their brothers would rush in, working as a tag team.

Cretoris and Vanguard were constantly trading out blows, the cries from the soul enchanted armor called out with every hit, while Vanguard churned and hissed as the construct fought on fearlessly.

"So the kitties got smarter..." Verminathras hissed, bringing his staff up for protection in his left hand. It defended against one warrior's axes, the steel clashing against the enchanted wood. The other warrior got in from the other side, which made Verminathras step back. It cut deep into his chest, but he managed to fire a red blast of pain towards the Lionhearted's face before he fell back.

When they did fall back, Verminathras had a moment to himself. "Go home to your milk and mouse chasing!" he cackled, chanting quietly. He was calling the insects and vermin to his aid, a loud buzzing beginning to fill the air as they came from the woodworks. In moments, a small cloud began to descend upon the Lionhearted, though not before another two got in hits on Verminathras. Though he moved out of the way for the most part, his right side and left shoulder now sported deep wounds. Though hardly bleeding and not paining him at all, they were wounds nonetheless. He was still mortal. Hopefully, though, the stinging and biting insects would distract the animals so that the rogue could cut into them, or perhaps buy them time for Verminathras to cook up a more powerful corruption spell.

Seeing how little the lionhearted were affected by the duo's attacks caused Gyle to wince slightly. He picked himself back up and settled in a defensive posture holding a dagger out and resting the smaller crossbow against the extended arm. His three eyes focusing in on the Lionhearted in front of him.

'Bloody hell...Wot you done got us into plaguecaster? Ya can't handle this lot? In all your magical might.'

Before a retort could be conjured he found the lionhearted striking out again. Only one focusing on Gyle. He grinned slightly counting it a blessing they thought him more simpler prey. His dagger slid against the blades deflecting them high. Not as high as he would have liked as he felt the cold steel run across his cheek and ear, pulling the remnants of his hood along with the swing. However his dagger was already striking along on of the wrists intent on severing nerves and tendons to render the arm useless. He spun with the blade to give it extra cutting power as his third eye already was locked onto on of the lionhearted after Verminathras. With the lighter crossbow one hand was more than steady enough to aim where the eye had settled.

The target was a pupil of the lionhearted on the plaguecaster's right. His finger quickly squeezed the trigger sending the bolt speeding at its mark. As his arm recoiled from the shot he continued to spin ending up with his back to his new companion. Or at least so he thought however the plaguecaster had moved to dodge the oncoming blows from more lionhearted. Gyle quickly raised his dagger but the strong swings that caught the plaguecaster continued and knocked the rogue further away from his partner.

Gyle's ears rang, but instead of going away it seemingly got louder and slowly changed from a ring to a buzz. The cloud of insects had appeared from the air itself it seemed, not wasting a moment he reloaded his crossbow and prepared to fire off another bolt at the next charging enemy.

The central battle had seemed to reach a stalemate, though the Leongardian defenses did not seem to falter as heretic after heretic fell, with very little casualties on the defenders sides. Occasionally, a fireball soared through the air from one of the warlocks in the back, but the Leongardian defenders were always able to limit the casualties caused by it, though still outnumbered, they seemed the least bit outmatched.

The true stalemate could be seen in the battle between Cretoris and Vanguard, blow after blow being delivered, the two now near equal in strength, the only difference noticable that Vanguard had actually taken some damage, as to where Cretoris was being protected by his soul barrier.

A bit off to the side, in the woods, the Lionhearted were continuing their assault, one of the suffering a few cuts across his wrist, causing his to roar out as he felt the strength in his arm diminish, while another had a crossbow bolt grazing along the side of his head, almost hitting his eye.
The louder buzzing sound did not remain unnoticed, as one of the Lionhearted snarled. "He's calling the insects. Pull back and stay on the move!" The beast called out, as the feline warriors all withdrew from the battle in perfect unison, causing Gyle last bolt, should it have been shot, to hit nothing but wood as it dug into a tree.
With the insects descending, the beasts could be rushing through the woods, their swift movement seeming to keep them safe from insect attack for now as they remained near the two, as was clearly audible from how close the rustling of leafes and breaking of twigs was around them.

Since the insects didn't drain his energy too terribly, Verminathras continued to channel the spell, using his carrion eyes to allow him vision of the Lionhearted. They were fast, too fast for the insects...

"Rogue... How fast can you shoot that thing?" Verminathras inquired, peering at the lion-men through his little friends' eyes. He noticed off to his side that fireballs were being tossed into the Leongarde lines. "Hmmm... Better idea. As much as it pains me to depart our feline friends, we should rejoin our ranks. Perhaps there are those who could aid us in dispatching of these... pussies..."

Cackling, Verminathras drew the insects close to the two, acting like a sort of barrier between them and the Lionhearted. If one or more drew near, the insects would just swarm them, acting as pesky distractions while the two attempted to dispatch the brave, foolish soul. He seemed to have put the cats out of his mind as he began to make his way towards the Disgeran lines, a 90 degree turn from the direction he had previously been going.

As soon as any Lionhearted tried to be brave though... A sickly green aura surrounding the plaguecaster told any Disgeran just what was in store for them.

As the insect barrier became more apparent Gyle found that he had little choice given to him. To press forward alone would certainly spell out certain destruction for the thief. Survival being one of the most important codes he lived by. Gyle quickly turned and began to follow the plaguecaster back to the Disgeran lines. A twinge of pain pulsated as his brow furrowed, truthfully he was a little disappointed with the outcome of their failed flank.

Keeping his light crossbow at the ready, Gyle couldn't help but chirp up over the buzzing.

'D'em lionhearted aren't easily trifled wit are they? I bet they be following us waitin' to pounce and cut out our throats.'

Hurriedly he continued to pursue his companion as they made their way back to the ranks of the Disgeran army.

As the two Disgerans once more approached the Disgeran ranks, the Lionhearted could be heard backing away from the battle. Their task was done so far.
In the battle itself again, there wasn't much change from earlier. The Leongardian defenses held very well, while Vanguard and Cretoris were still locked in combat.
Their attacks had gotten much more viscious, however, which was soon seen as Vanguard managed to deflect one of the Nightbringer's blows, and soon followed with a powerful fist to the dark knight's chest, sending the man stumbling back, as he snarled, just barely managing to maintain his balance, before roaring out as he charged back at the steel giant once more.

"Nay... They have left us for now," Verminathras said, allowing his insectoid friends disperse into the forest whence they came. Drawing from the grass that he trod on, his energy slowly began to replenish, causing the greenery around him to whither and die.

"You may go your own way if you wish. I will be approaching the warlocks to see if I might swing this field into our favor..." he continued, moving along towards the rear of the Disgeran lines. He eventually was moving through groups of ascended and heretics, finally finding himself amongst the casters of his faction.

"Here, warlocks," the plaguecaster called, motioning for a few to join him. "I have need of your magic. Lend me your aid, that I might crush these pathetic Leongardians." Whether any warlocks complied with his request or not, Verminathras began to chant, focusing his magic into a form that was vaguely reminiscent of his insect conjuring. However, instead of a loud buzzing forming from the earth, a deadly green aura began to surround the once-man.

"We shall strip them of everything they are..." he cackled, preparations for his spell continuing.

Gyle was never big on magic, unless of course it was piggybacking on an immensely powerful mage to help secure himself in the army he now found himself in. However when Verminathras offered him an out he gladly departed slinking back into the the overshadowed darkness.

The three eyed rogue had already begun figuring out his next course of action as he reloaded his crossbows, making sure they were ready to be fired off at a moments notice. The clanging of metal was like a chorus as it led him towards the two titanic generals clashing in the middle of the field. The whole battle they appeared to be equals trading blows without tiring. From what he heard Leongarde's warrior wasn't even flesh and blood which meant out of the two it was Cretoris that would tire first.

His hand reached into his cloak revealing one of his few concoctions. A poison, something trite and simple, it was hardly fatal but would cause severe nausea and sometimes even paralysis. His extra eye darted around making sure nothing or no one was coming at him as he laced a two of his smallest bolts in the mixture. When finished he blended into a rather large group of footmen that were once again charging the defensive wall created by the opposition. As he ran he held the bolts up ready to throw instead of shoot...his target a single shieldguard.

With his skill and luck one of the bolts would find their mark in a chink in the armor. Hoping that the Disgeran forces would be able to make the most of such a tiny opening of one link in the chain breaking away. Gyle however never kept his eyes on the shieldguard to find out the result for he already broke away and closed in on Vanguard. He doubted his heavy crossbow could pierce the legendary armor but if it only drew his attention away for a moment he was sure Cretoris could gain the upper hand.

Cretoris and Vanguard's blades met again and again, the dark knight seeming to finally begin to suffer from exhaustion, while the immortal steel soldier kept on going. The upper hand was going to Vanguard, were it not for Gyle's sudden crossbow bolt that dug into Vanguard's enchanted armor, causing the giant's attention to be diverted long enough for Cretoris to lash out, bringing his blade to bear towards the steel colossus. Slicing into Vanguard's side, the golem warrior went stumbling aside, Cretoris' eyes raging with the fires of fury. "Your power... IS MINE!" Cretoris cried out as his blade dug straight down, finally piercing through Vanguard's mighty armor, as the very essence that kept the golem alive was being siphoned into Cretoris' blade, who himself was cackling, power surging around him as he was infused by the ancient magic that kept the mighty warrior alive.

This all caused the sky to grow evermore dark, the skull shape in the air gazing down at the battlefield, before opening its jaws and letting out a horrifying scream.

"Vanguard has fallen! Vanguard has fallen! Retreat! We cannot win!" Taken over by panic, the Leongardian troops began to withdraw, as Cretoris let the power of the mighty Vanguard seep into him, cackling as his very armor seemed to begin mutating. "Yes... Yeeeees... This power... It is mine... All mine..." The very essence of all who died on the battlefield seemed to fuse with Cretoris, as he begun a complete transformation, growing in size, about the same size as Vanguard, his voice turning much more demonic. "There... will be... no... survivors!" With that call, a wave of shadow erupted from Cretoris, revealing his new form, tendrils of dark magic latching onto the hapless Leongardian that sought to run for their lives. Cretoris was almost drowning in his power, and he gladly showed. He was the greatest warrior alive, and he had proven it.

"My word, Cretoris..." Verminathras murmured as he looked down upon the battle between the two colossi. It seemed that Vanguard had the upper hand for a few moments, until something turned the tide for the Nightbringer, who struck Vanguard a wicked blow. Finish him, Cretoris... the plaguecaster thought with a wicked grin, his staff's end glowing bright shade of green as he focused the energy of his spell.

And finish him he did. Cretoris transformed into an even more powerful and terrifying form, and Leongarde was in a panicked retreat. Disgeran forces were chasing after the fleeing men. Lionglade was theirs...

They have yet to suffer, Verminathras hissed mentally, unleashing the spell when he had reached its max potential. A huge bolt of green energy fired into the darkened sky, and, with the warlock's energy behind it, fused with the artificial storm clouds. Acid-like corrupting rain began to fall on the fleeing Leongardians, a light drizzle with deadly potency. Smirking at his handiwork, Verminathras turned and proceeded to search for the most luscious foliage in the glade... and drain its very essence away.

When Cretoris emerged in his new found body and the Leongarde forces retreated Gyle made his way to the remains of the enemy general. Very nonchalantly he found his bolt, the one that had given Cretoris the upper hand, and gently dislodged it. He ripped a piece of his cape and wrapped it around the bolt to distinguish it from the others in his quiver. Having such a trophy was about all Gyle found he got by way of praise in the ranks of Disgeran.

It didn't take long before his curious rogue like nature got the better of him and he was trying to lift pieces of Vanguard's remains to pilfer off the battlefield, however he didn't have the strength to even dissemble anything that could be of value. As he tried to pry one last time the rains began. His once crooked smile quickly became a grimace as pulled the remains of his hood over his hair and tried to find some shelter. His eyes caught the new Cretoris as he marched through the downpour. The improvement would no doubt strike fear into many that would cross his path but Gyle was already making mention of his contribution.

'Oi, General! Yer welcome, doubt it would 'ave ended so nicely if I 'adn't stepped in. No need ta thank me though, Imma sure ya 'ould have figured somet'ing out!'

Gyle smiled and his three eyes moved from the general to Vanguard's armor.

'Is it customary ta do anyt'ing wit stuff like that? I mean does your lot loot the battlefield or is that 'gainst our rotty ways?'
