Introductions:
The Highperk Shores, while normally a quiet and fairly peaceful area, was now a sprawling field of soldiers, rushing left and right to begin setting up the defenses needed. Palisade barricades were pulled up along the cliffs looking down upon the rushing ocean. To Peluya, the Flaming Maiden, it seemed strange. The cliffs were already a natural barrier, why would so many barricades be needed even further. But the ominous fog that crept closer vanquished all further thoughts. She felt her blood pumping with adrenaline. She was without her much preferred mount right now, her own dragon.

The draconic roar that however soon echoed through the air spurred new hope in her heart, noticing the silhouettes of Aeregos’ famed dragon riders, led by Nabo, the Brave Wind. Smirking, Peluya turned her attention soldiers. “Brave warriors of Aeregos, hear me! The empress’s heart is with us. The greatest warriors in Aeregos have come to join our fight. Now, for Aeregos and for the Empress, I pray you will allow me be the beacon to guide you to victory. As I have sworn to serve Aeregos to the end, so I will swear to be a worthy commander to you all!” Although she was not of pure Aeregosian blood, the former Fieran princess still knew how to get through to the warriors of Aeregos.

The shadow of the fog had made landfall, as its dark shadows coated the cliffs and the palisades set up. Peluya’s dragon landed near as her as the arrangement of Aeregosian warriors set up and prepared for battle. The dragon riders circled the battlefield, awaiting any sign of an enemy.

As it seemed that the battle was drawing closer to the forces of Aeregos Okotshuchin placed himself upon a fitting stone which could make for a simple enough seat. From a satchel he carried the man removed a book and a stick of charcoal. Still waiting for the eruption that he could only feel on the back of his neck where hairs would stand on most people. To pass the time on the first page he created the setting. Broad strokes formed the dragons in the sky while he lightly shaped this coming darkness. It would appear as if a mighty storm would be rolling onto them and perhaps that wasn't far from the truth. With a quick flip he was two pages further in where he began a series of rough sketches. Each of some sort of imaginative creature, one was seemingly massive with tentacles. Another was of a shadowy man while others seemed to resemble the demons of Disgaren. Depending upon what sprung from those mists he would circle one and scratch the others out. Unless they had many forms of course. Now onto the fifth page his stick was ready to write down quick thoughts some of which made it onto the paper describing the soldiers around him and their bravery. Many quite enjoyed the tales of heroes. He wrote of the determination of those around him as well as ideas about what exactly would be coming. Mostly just random assumptions and guesses without little hold or evidence. All that was left would be for these beings to arrive and for Aeregos to accept the challenge of war. Resting underneath his left arm was the spear that Oko was accustomed to using. All signs of wildlife were indefinitely gone while only those prepared to die remain.

With Aeregos' defenses nearly complete, Nabo descended with his dragon, looking down at Peluya. "My love. Will the defenses on the ground be alright?" Peluya turned to Nabo, nodding. "Yes, dearest. Whatever comes our way... These fiends will perish." Nabo smiled quite joyful, nodding, before taking off once more. "Dragon riders! Prepare to descend in the fog when the battle begins! We will find the leader of these things and eliminate him!" With that, the dragon riders continued their circling patrol, keeping an eye out for enemy movement. Until the fog came visibly crawling up onto the edge of the cliffs, completely clouding the edge as all vision was taken away. The lines of soldiers took a few steps back, but held their ground for now.

"Death... has... come..."

The whispering voice called out from the fog, as hissing and howling emerged from it. Soldiers held their weapons at the ready, a wyrmborn rose up from the regular ranks every now and then. Archers lined up their bows, aswell as Peluya did, her arrow igniting with flame. "Here they come..." And as if they heard those whispered words, the hollow howls and screams became so much louder, as masked beings came rushing out of the fog, sporting all sorts of weaponry, fearlessly charging into the defending lines.

"Let fly!" At the signal, arrows went soaring off, striking down a multitude of the beasts, who simply dissipated into fog when they were slain, soon to be replaced by another rushing in from the mists. The Aeregosian spearmen guarding the front line called out, stabbing and slashing forward, taking down many of the beasts, although their endless numbers already began to demand a toll on the lives of the innocent bystanders. The wyrmborn hissed out as they slashed and clawed at the beasts, some even breathing fire upon their soulless foes.

Flipping back to the rough sketches Oko scratched out the ones that didn't remotely resemble what he was witnessing while leaving those that vaguely fit the description. Going to further pages he scribbled down words as quickly as possible describing how they vanish upon death, how they whispered "Death has come," and how they appear from the fog, the fact also that they spoke the same language. He continued mentioning that without bodies at the moment he can't confirm that they are even dying. His words were forced down so quickly some were crossed out for being mistakes created by a man rushing. Unable to afford any more time to himself he placed his tools in the satchel along with the book then stashed it all behind the rock he was upon. As more men charged by he followed in pursuit spear held high at the back and low in the front.

Finally he reached the enemy and snapped his weapon upwards at the last second to catch one of them in the chest off guard. Unfortunately it responded quickly enough using its weapon to parry away the attack while hugging Oko as he collided with its body. Suddenly the world flipped as he hit the ground hard and his weapon clattered meters away. Trying to rise quickly a heavy leg struck him across the chest as a sword hovered just above. Just before death had come an Aeregosian spear ran the creature through forcing it to dissipate like the others. The hand of another extended which he happily took while heavily coughing. Now standing Oko was set on resuming his assault despite the bruises he had just suffered. His eyes fell upon the darkness that still lingered hoping to see something of the Dragon Riders, light breaking through, or of the condition of their own men and women.

With the Aeregosian troops pushing onwards, trying to force these beasts back off of the cliff, the temperature could be felt dropping rapidly, but also the winds could be felt tugging more harshly and firm. The eerie sound of wind was no longer the sound that lulled every Aeregosian baby to sleep, but it sounded more like the raspy breath of an aging and dying old man.

"Chaaarge!" Nabo called out, as a total of six wyrm riders dove down into the fog, vanishing from sight, their dragons roaring violently. However, these roars soon became pained, as the eerie whispering wind turned to angered whispers. It wasn't long, a blood and gut coated spear of one of the wyrmriders dug itself into the ground, reeking of blood and flesh.
This was when the true horrors in the fog revealed themselves. Draped, shady silhouettes, haunting through the fog, dragging soldiers one by one into the fog, letting their terrified screams dissipate into the void.
The beings almost looked like how the ancient ancestors of Aeregos were being represented.

One such being whispered and hissed and it rushed up and dragged a soldier from in front of Oko, straight into the fog, before another one appeared, rushing straight for Oko.

Peluya's focus was off, that much was certain. "Nabo!" She was no longer focusing on the battle, as all her attention now turned to the safety of her love. "Push on, warriors! We cannot abandon our dragon riders!"

Upon seeing the being rushing towards him Oko placed his left arm underneath his right armpit. Closing it tightly around the glove upon his hand he pulled away revealing those sharp claws of his. Now his right arm wrapped tightly around his spear which was planted as firmly point down into the ground as possible. Angling it so he could lean backwards with it and make sure the ground would present an extra challenge. Now his left elbow raised towards the attacker with his hand twisted causing his sharp tipped fingers be parallel with his arm. As such they were aimed right for his target should it continue after him. Lowering himself the Wyrmborn prepared to be taken, though he would go kicking and screaming. In fact before his death would come he sent whispers out towards the mass of darkness hoping the Dragon Riders could hear his pleas. "We need support, Dragon Riders come back. In trouble."

The spectral being howled out, the claws ripping through its being, though they seemed to hardly even phase him, as dark, metal hooks reached out from underneath the draped being, seeking to latch into the wyrmborn's skin, hooking onto his flesh firmly. Were it succesful, he'd seek to lift the wyrmborn off of his feet and drag him into the dark fog, at the height that would just barely allow his heels to scrape over the ground.
However, from the back of their defenses, a single wyrmborn leaped down from his position and rushed over to Oko, holding a pair of twin sickles. "I'm coming, brother!"

The draconic roars from the fog could be heard crying out in fury and rage, aswell as pain and agony. There was no trace of any of them returning alive as of yet.
Peluya felt her heart sink deeper with every second, as their soldiers tried their best to fight off the dark horde. "Fight on! We must find Nabo and the others!" With arrows whizzing through the air, and spears slashing about, aswell as wyrmborn fighting on, the toll of this battle seemed to rise up higher and higher.

Trying to deal with the lunge Oko pushed himself back slightly to avoid an extremely fatal encounter just barely. Unfortunately one of the hooks did find a home as his left arm was caught right in the middle between radius and ulna bones. Blood dripped out when the force of something great tried to yank him right off his feet. Just as it felt like the entire limb would be lost a scythe managed to cleave through the hand holding the weapon. The severed limb turned to mist as the Wind Howler flew back away leaving them be for the moment. Heavy breaths came from the snake's mouth as he tried to remove the hook only to find such an action too painful. "Brother, thank you greatly." Leaving behind his spear Oko retreated hoping others would follow behind him. Running as well as he could while holding his nearly useless left arm the man found his satchel. Slinging it over his right shoulder he continued trying to spot a commander of any sort. While his hopes were to see the mighty Dragon Rider instead his lover would have to do. Her shouts dawned upon him as a focusing point for his efforts. Continuing towards her he sent his whispers hoping they would not be drowned out by the carnage. "I have hope. Please, we must fall back and give them ground to stand on. The closer we are to that darkness the more vulnerable we are. Our dragons must also have realized this too late and are lost in the darkness. There must be a way for us to lead them back, perhaps some sort of light." Finally he got close enough to simply yell as his vision blurred slightly. "We should try fire, light some sort of beacon near to us! Light arrows and fire them into the darkness letting them know where we are! Anything that they could notice and take as a sign!"

The scythe-wielding wyrmborn nodded, before turning his attention to the problem at hand once more, spinning his scythes around once more, before he rushed to the aid of other soldiers.

Peluya at first didn't even notice the man's whispers, as her own troubled mind had gone wandering off. When the wyrmborn soldier called out to her with actual spoken words, however, she blinked and gazed down at him, having an idle look for a moment as she listened to him. "A beacon...? Yes! Ofcourse!" She turned around, glancing about. "We can use the remaining wood from the pallisades to make a beacon." She then turned to the battle again. "Corporal Nye'Rah!" One of the wyrmborn blinked, before rushing, bowing to the woman. "Yes, m'lady?" "I need you to first light that wood on fire, and then light up our archers' arrows. We have to guide our Wyrm Riders to safety."
The wyrmborn nodded promptly, before rushing off to do what was asked of him. Peluya in the meantime notched an arrow onto her bow, as its head caught fire spontaniously, letting fly into the mist. "Please, Nabo..." She whispered to herself, before a loud draconic roar echoed.
One of the dragons came flying out of the mist, with on top of it: Nabo. The beast however was heavily wounded, and so was Nabo. Already swaying left and right in the air, the dragon crashed into the ground behind their lines. "Nabo!" Peluya instantly rushed over to his position, as flaming arrows began to soar off into the thick fog.

The battle itself was slowly slipping out of control however. More and more soldiers were being taken away by the ghastly figures, only to vanish in a symphony of screams. The masked beasts continued their assault, as the Aeregosian troops tried their best to fight them.
After a while, one more wyrmrider came out alive, but nothing else as of yet.

"Someone get some healers, Nabo is down! We need immediate care." Oko fell upon his right side then rolled over panting heavily. "We need to fall back and regroup. Those hook fiends are too fast for even us." Now on the ground he opened up his satchel and sat up opening his book harshly. He pulled out some of the Charcoal and again continued his word scratching down features of them and trying to do it with a bad injury causing constant mistakes. "We need a stronger defensive line, have all of our men fall back definitely." He only hoped someone was listening since at the moment he could barely see around him. "Have our archers deal with their larger troops while the others defend them. In particular try to spread out the Wyrmborn, put a few guarding Nabo and the Princess. We can't afford to let either of them be taken by these creatures." Stopping his drawing for a moment he pointed off into the darkness. "We need to get as far from that as possible while still engaging them. If we can spread the line and form tight groups with gaps. Our archers can try and kill anything heading for the gaps while these formations spread that mist even further." Now he wrote down his name within the book along with a few more details of what he had just ordered along with the basics of the fiend that stabbed him with a hook as well as the danger of entering that mist. With his good hand he placed the book in the carrying bag again then stood ignoring the placing of his other tools within. "Someone needs to take this back to Aeregos. We need a detail of this threat sent back so if we fail others won't. Whoever can manage this will survive and be a hero!" A man nodded and slung the bag over his shoulder then rushed off away from the battle as fast as he could. It would seem the bleeding was really getting to Oko as he felt quite light headed marching about now. "We need to create distance with those creatures, lives cannot be afforded here. If you must use your weapon as a surrogate for your own body. Retreat, re-arm, then return to the battle. We can replace your weapons but not your flesh or your spirits!" With great remorse he tore parts of his robes exposing more of his arms, tying it around his wounded arm tightly hopefully to reduce the bleeding. "And do not let up on using flaming arrows into the mist when you can. First target immediate threats but when time can be spared do so. We must know if more of our Riders survived." Finally he pulled out his trust chicken sickle and followed after the Princess to check up on how she and Nabo were doing.

Peluya was hardly paying attention to what Oko had been saying, but another wyrmborn nearby who had fallen back to recover aswell had turned his attention to his brother and listened to him, before scratching his scaley chin as the man rushed off, before nodding as he headed off to execute his own plan.

Peluya was checking Nabo's body for wounds, having already loosened his armor up, it was revealed his body was lacerated by a large amount of hooks, obviously the ones that came from the ghastly figures. "Nabo... Stay with me!" The man was grunting and breathing troubled, but mostly suffered from bloodloss, as it seemed he was lucky enough to not have been struck anywhere fatal.
The other escaped wyrmrider crashed down a bit further, as a few men immediatly rushed over to tend to them.

Nabo coughed up some blood, spitting it out, before looking up at the two faces, grunting. "In the fog... Those ghosts... They're... doing something... to the masked things... They-..."
A horrific screech interrupted Nabo, as something was crying out from the fog, but whatever it was, it seemed anything but human. The fog however did not even give away a silhouette yet, only the recurring roars and screeches from a monstrous creature.

The wyrmborn who had earlier caught Oko's words was now taking matters in his own hands. "Continue firing those arrows up. Don't aim, just let fly into the darkness! First rows of archers, shoot down any who dwell too close! Soldiers, form up and protect our archers! Keep your distance form the fog! Brothers! Focus your attention on the ghosts! Keep our men safe! For Aeregos!" The wyrmborn had taken leadership right now during Peluya's absence from the active battle, as she had already begun tending to Nabo's wounds.

Oko's movement slowed and became sluggish as he finally caught up with the princess and Nabo, falling to his knees. "Deluding the darkness, spread it out. Thin enemy numbers." His weapon fell while he tried to hold himself up with his working arm. "Keep Nabo alive, first hand account. Study failures that were here and build around them." Flatly onto his face he fell bruising his nose and causing him to grimace in pain. "Sent book back with ideas. Ground not as important. Note the Dragon wind plane shroud." Soon enough his words became a babbling mess before darkness came as Oko became unconscious. Still bleeding from his arm with the hook wrenched into his flesh it seemed his quick patchwork was simply not enough.

(Oko is out for the remainder of the battle.)

With the fog crawling on, devouring anything in its path. The Aeregosian troops cannot even spare time to gather their fallen as the Wyrmborn that followed Oko's plan called out. "Aeregos! Retreat! Fall back to defensive positions NOW!"
The soldiers didn't even have to think as they immediatly began backing away. A garrison of troops shielded Peluya and the wounded Nabo, taking them both back to safety.
With the disability to save their dead, the corpses are left to be consumed by the fog.
