This is an RP based on the world, races, story, and lore of Dragon Age: Origins.

This RP is also rater R for nudity, fetishistic amounts of blood and gore, alcohol, sexual themes, coarse language, and mature situations

There is a popular saying among the people of the world that always seems to ring true at the best of times in the worst of ways.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Little over a century ago, the last surviving Grey Wardens of Ferelden united the peoples of their land against the Darkspawn Blight that was quickly descending upon them. The last of the Wardens stood vigilant and and unwavering in the face of danger, spitting death in the eye, even when facing the archdemon itself.

In Ferelden's darkest hour, the people united under the last of the Wardens for the sake of their own survival. The end of all things that lived and breathed without the taint of the Darkspawn was upon Ferelden, but the united army of all of Ferelden's races drove the Blight back, ending it with the slaying of the archdemon.

It has been a barely over a hundred years since that day, and the races and nations of Ferelden resumed to their plotting and their bickering, refusing to learn their lesson, refusing to heed to words of the Wardens, even though it was the Wardens that saved the world from being consumed by the Blight for the fifth time in known history.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.... if only it was that simple.

The Grey Wardens slowly began to rebuild their numbers, recruiting only the best from all lands, bringing the recruits back to Weisshaupt fortress in Anderfels' Darkspawn littered Hunterhorn Mountains to train them properly. There is no reservation for recruitment according to race or social status; if one impresses a Grey Warden with ones skill, that individual will be offered recruitment, and on occasion, the Rite of Conscription will be used.

Now, the Wardens have all felt the sickly sweetness of the massing darkness to the far south, one that has even caused many to vomit due to the strength of the taint. Some of the fresher and weaker recruits even died from the shock. The Wardens know that the treaties with the people of Ferelden will not be enough, even if they all united and fought as they did a century ago, they would only be consumed by the sheer size of the Blight. This means that the Wardens will have to make history, yet again, and unite all of the known world together against this rising Blight.

In war, victory.
In peace, vigilance.
In death, sacrifice.

Maker protect us all.

Humans: The most common people on the face of the world, and the most dominant.

City Elves: also quite common in any large human city. City elves are second class citizens, having been freed from slavery by Andraste, but they are kept down in the slums, called Alienages, for the most part.

Dalish Elves: Proud nomads that wander the forests of the world looking for their lost history.

Dwarves: The caste-strict people that live within and beneath the mountains. Known for being some of the finest weapons enchanters and smithies in the world. Whether noble or commoner, life is not easy. Commoners are subject to abuse and extortion wile Nobles are constantly combating for the Throne of Orzimmar.

Qunari: a large humanoid race with dark skin, light hair, and vivid eyes. Hailing from the far-away island nation of Par Vollen, they are a powerful warrior race of people with a strong sense of honor.

Mages: any race can be a Mage. Most mages are aligned with the Tower and the Circle of Magi, there are always the Apostates, those who hide from the Tower and the Templars, but they rarely survive. Those that do are very dangerous.

Warrior:
Berserker: Those who would sacrifice finesse for a dark rage that increased their strength and resilience.

Champion: The champion is a veteran warrior and a confident leader in battle. Possessing skill at arms impressive enough to inspire allies, the champion can also intimidate and demoralize foes. These are the heroes you find commanding an army, or plunging headlong into danger, somehow making it look easy.

Reaver: Demonic spirits teach more than blood magic. Reavers terrorize their enemies, feast upon the souls of their slain opponents to heal their own flesh, and can unleash a blood frenzy that makes them more powerful as they come nearer to their own deaths.

Templar: As servants of the Chantry, the templars have been the most effective means of controlling the spread and use of arcane power for centuries.

Rogues:
Assassin: The assassin finds any notion of fairness a quaint ideal that has no place in combat. Poisons are their weapon of choice, as are crippling strikes that inflict persistent wounds on their foes. As killers, assassins are a marvel of stealth and efficiency.

Bard: Bards follow an Orlesian tradition, acting as assassins, spies, saboteurs and following other secretive pursuits in the constant, and sometimes petty, struggles between nobles. Having taken the minstrel's art to new levels, bards are skilled performers and master manipulators; bards can inspire their allies or dishearten their foes through song and tale.

Duelist: Duelists are deadly combatants who prefer to fight in light armour and strike with light, but precise attacks. Experienced duelists have preternatural reflexes that allow them to evade their opponents' clumsy blows, as well as strike with remarkable precision.

Ranger: Rangers have an affinity for open country and wilderness, but as independent scouts and militia, they are opportunists, not stewards of nature. They exploit every advantage of their environment, and can lure wild beasts to attack their foes.

Mages:
Arcane Warrior: Among the ancient elves, there were mages who trained their magical arts to augment their martial prowess. They channeled magical power through their weapons and bodies, becoming terrors on the battlefield. Most consider these skills lost forever, but they may still linger in forgotten corners of the world. Arcane warriors may learn to use their magic score to satisfy the strength requirement to equip higher-level weapons and armor.

Blood Mage: Every mage can feel the dark lure of blood magic. Originally learned from demons, these dark rites tap into the power of blood, converting life into mana and giving the mage command over the minds of others. Such power comes with a price, though; a blood mage must sacrifice his own health, or the health of allies, to fuel these abilities

Shapeshifter: Rumors speak of barbarians that hold secrets of transforming the body into the form of animals. The Circle of Magi denies such rumors, but this rare art survives in the forgotten corners of Thedas. Mastery of their bodies allows shapeshifters some protection, even in human form, making them durable opponents and staunch allies.

Spirit Healer: Not all entities of the Fade are demonic. Many are benevolent entities consisting of life energy, which can be called upon to mend flesh and heal disease. Spirit healers focus on channeling the energies granted by these spirits, making them indispensable members of a party of adventurers.

6'3" tall
210 lbs
powerful soldier's musculature.

Personality: a driven and relentless individual both in life and in combat. He will go out of his way to help those in need, but only if it serves the greater good in the long run. He will not waste time to pull a kitten out of a tree unless doing so will convince a Teyrn or Arl to fight for him. Has a great disdain for politics and has no patience for them or people involved in them. Completely devoted to his order and to those within the order. Never makes empty promises, and has the mule-ish stubbornness to drive himself to fulfill any promise he has made and refuse to admit defeat, even when it is clear and present that the odds are stacked against him. He could face the Blight alone and he would still initiate the charge.

Origin Story: The son of an Arl in a walled city on the slope of the great Dragon's Peak, Valerius grew up with modest comfort. In the current civil unrest of the time, skirmishes and small battles were common and the smell of rotting flesh was a scent that all became accustomed to. At a young age, Valerius was taught to defend himself by his father and elder brother. The young Valerius showed an affinity for the synchronous harmony between sword and shield.

Valerius' father had been keeping the city safe through a series of alliances with other neighboring Banns. Little did Arl Alaric know that his allies were scheming behind his back. One day, when Valerius was around eighteen years old, a Grey Warden by the name of Titus visited their city in hopes of finding promising recruits among the Knights. Arl Alaric took this as a chance to showboat to the Grey Warden, leading a march through the dense forest that tangles the slopes of Dragon's Peak with his sons and finest soldiers in tow.

The Arl's allies had planted spies among the serfs in the castle, and planted an ambush accordingly. In their vanity, the Banns and Arls that had once been allied to Arl Alaric lead their own troops as well, hoping to personally gain the renown for slaying one of the most powerful Arls in the region. The comabt that ensued was far from clean. Titus, the Grey Warden, took up arms with Arl Alaric's men, happening to be shoulder-to-shoulder with the Arl's second-eldest son Valerius. Titus was not an easy Warden to impress, but he was very impressed with the young man's combat prowess and steady coldness under pressure. Even as they young man watched his closest friends, even his own brother and father die at the hands of those once thought allies and friends - men who had brought Valerius gifts at his birthdays - Valerius remained outwardly emotional as a boulder. Inside, he was a burning hearth of sorrow and hate. The death around him fed his strength, every drop of blood that he lost fueled the fire in his belly. Still, even with this hatred and desire for blood and lust for vengeance, Valerius committed himself to his duty first. He forced himself to return to his father's city instead of chasing after the killers.

Valerius arrived to see his beloved home aflame. Titus, who had been fighting with the boy the entire time, watched in silence, seeing the dark energy seep from the boy's very soul in to his muscle. The boy was a Reaver. Valerius charged through the fire, flames and smoke that suffocated his beloved home, killing all those who drew steel against him. The young man's pristine clothes of white silk were now stained red and completely sodden with blood. Valerius hacked and slashed his way in to his families castle to see his father's closest ally and dearest friend pull a dagger from the ribs of his violated younger sister, dropping her limp body next to the similarly violated body of his mother and the gutted corpse of his younger brother. Even his sister-in-law and his nephew and niece lay on the floor, their blood seeping into the wooden floorboard.

The last of the Alaric family charged at the man that had succeeded in killing Valerius' entire family. Blades clashed again and again, they seemed to be equally matched, but Titus and Valerius could tell that the traitorous scum, Arl Rahl, was slowly losing. The Arl recieved a timely rescue from his soldiers; a crossbow bolt finding its way in to Valerius' ribs, giving Arl Rahl a large enough opening to strike. Valerius was able to evade the blow, mostly. The sword cut deep in to Valerius's face, leaving a pale scar over his nose and face.

Once Rahl retreated, leaving the wounded Valerius to die, Titus slung the young man over his shoulder and spirited Valerius away to safety. When Valerius came to, the bolt was removed from his side and the wound on his face was already a scar. Titus made the offer to be a Grey Warden to Valerius, saying that the boy far exceeded the expectations that Titus had for anyone in this region of Ferelden. Valerius accepted and joined the ranks of the Grey Wardens. When he entered the Wardens, however, Valerius recieved a runic tattoo on the right side of his face that is meant to suppress his powers as a Reaver.

When Titus officially took Valerius as his apprentice, the Senior Commander would take Valerius with him on excursions to fight random Darkspawn raids or to recruit members for the ranks of the Wardens. One such excursion took Titus and Valerius through the Kochari Wilds, where they stumbled upon a small village of Apostates. Out of all of the powerful witches there, one in particular caught the eyes of the Grey Wardens, though on some varying reasons. A girl with raven black locks of hair and icy blue eyes stood out amongst the rest. Being a Templar once, Titus could sense powerful magic, and this girl, Aelia, was throbbing with it.

Taking the girl from her tribe, with her consent, of course, Titus gave Valerius the responsibility to teach the girl of the Wardens' history and to teach her proper sword forms. They became close friends through the years. When it came time for Aelia to do to Joining, Valerius was the Warden that entered the mountains with her and the other recruits of her class. Overseeing them as they Collected the vails of Darkspawn blood and retrieved a golden tile from the abandoned temple at the summit of the tallest mountain.

When Aerila decided to leave and travel the world, Valerius voiced his disapproval and displeasure, but that would not stop her. He chided himself for being foolish and entertaining such fancies and hardened himself even further. The glibness and joy a young stallion such as Valerius should have was absent, replaced with the cold and hard vigil of a soldier who knew only soldiering.

Personality: Calm, kind, and understanding. Having spent so much of his life in the Wardens, Titus knows how to remain calm at all times, no matter how horrific the visage before him may be. He has a calculating eye and a mathematical mind, making him a great tactician and one of the finest and most critical recruiters

Origin Story: Titus was a commoner in the seaside city of Rialto. Not having any noble blood in him and growing up on the crime-filled streets, Titus quickly learned how to avoid conflict and confrontation with common sense. Still, Titus was trying to be a decent person in an indecent city and and indecent time. Due to the high tariff on all goods coming in to the city at that time, tensions were high, and riots were not anything unusual. One night, a riot was worse than most, resulting in many docks and markets being burned; Titus' family perished in the flames.

In the aftermath of riots and civil unrest, the Chantry walks the bloodied streets to take in orphans. Titus was one of these orphans. He grew up in the Chantry, being a ward of the Revered Mother. When he was twelve, Titus became a squire to the order of Templars.

Titus served at the Mages Tower in Antiva, earning the notice of the Grey Wardens when he was able to resist the siren songs of both a Sloth and Lust demon, proceeding to Smite the unholy things and banish them back to the Fade.

When Titus became a Warden, he was a natural leader, his charisma unmatched. Joining the Wardens at the ripe age of twenty, Titus has spent the past forty years in service to the people all over the world, leading small Warden parties in to Darkspawn infested territory, coming out with minimal losses.

Name: Draegor Allantius
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Subrace/nationality: Tevinter
Class: Mage
Specialization: Arcane Warrior-Blood Mage
Rank: Grey Warden Head Mage
Appearance:
http://casualmagic.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/zendikar-art-spoiler.jpg

Personality: Despite his generally easy-going, slightly carefree nature and sarcasm, Draegor is completely devoted to his order and his position within it. He takes his position as seriously as to be expected and is generally willing to assist the newer mage recruits when not busy with his own research. He also possesses a certain ruthlessness about him most commonly seen when he’s in a combat situation.

Origin Story: The son of an influential noble family within the Tevinter Imperium, Draegor lived in good style until the age of five. He began showing signs of being sensitive to magic, the first in his family since the Magister Lord who lived during the time of Andraste. He was taken from his family and given over to the Tevinter Circle of Magi to live and study at the tower.

Due to the Imperium’s more lax treatment of mages, Draegor’s family was free to visit him once a week at the tower. Even though Draegor would not be inheriting his family’s titles and lands, his father still taught him the ins and outs of the dirty world of Imperial politics.

Within the tower, Draegor proved a quick study, showing that the Magister blood in his veins was not simply there for potential boasting. He gained a quick grasp of elemental magic, showing particular affinity for attempting to combine them into new spells (the most talked about in the tower is still his attempt at combining fire and ice into a spell called Ice Burn). Of course, all this was done after the completion of his Harrowing at nineteen.

Draegor’s Harrowing awoke something within him. A wanting for more than the Circle could give him. However, his reason overpowered that wanting and he completed the Harrowing and remained a loyal mage. That is, until a single night changed it all.

A group of mages Draegor was close friends with foolishly attempted a summoning ritual and ended up ripping the Veil and letting demons loose into the tower. Kyron was finishing up a marathon reading of an old tome on Elven magic when he heard the screams of terror and the shouting of the senior mages. Draegor peered out of his study room to see the corridor partially in flames and his fellow mages battling demons. The tome Draegor had read provided the theories behind the magic of the Arcane Warriors of the elves. Deciding to see if there was any merit to the words in the tome, Draegor joined the fight.

Draegor quickly felt a new surge of strength as he tapped into the combat magic of the Arcane Warrior and joined his brethren in fighting off the demons ransacking the tower. Unbeknownst to Draegor, a Grey Warden had been visiting the tower that day in search of potential recruits among the mages. The first time the Warden encountered Draegor, he was nearly frozen solid by the blast of ice erupting from the mage’s hand. Draegor and the Warden fought back to back along the entire library floor of the tower, driving back the demon tide until the First Enchanter and the senior mages closed the tear in the Veil, cutting off any more denizens of the Fade from passing through.

Shortly after the discovery of the corpses of the young mages who had caused the incident, the Grey Warden requested that Draegor join the ranks of his order, completely impressed by the abilities the young mage presented. The First Enchanter agreed, stating that he always knew of Draegor’s restlessness and wanting to learn more than the Circle could offer.

Draegor has been with the Warden’s for ten years and in that time not only did he pursue his curiosity in blood magic to it’s fullest and, with some assistance, complete his study of the Arcane Warriors, he rose to become head of the Warden Mages.

Lord Tully

Name: Tathlan Andra
Age: 25
Gender: male
Race: Elf
Subrace/nationality: Antivan
Class: Rogue
Specialization: Assassin
Appearance: http://mythicmktg.fileburst.com/war/us/home/images/armiesofWAR/highelves/aow_whitelion_1.jpg

Personality: Tathlan is much more open and blunt then many elves are allowed to be, he'll very rarely "Sugar coat" if he must deliver bad news, but he is quick to console those who are hurt by it, unless the bad news involves him killing them. Despite his occupation he never liked killing people, after a fight it's common to see him offer a prayer to the maker for the fallen. Due to how he was raised he's been taught not to mouth off to humans, although he has found ways to do that without them catching on. Despite any ill feelings towards them Tathlan is eager to serve his masters, human or otherwise.

Origin Story: (Tell me if I need to change anything) Tathlan in his early life was a walking example of bad luck, he was born of a small Dalish clan on the border of Antiva and the Tevinter Imperium, it was a harder life then most but Tathlan was well fed and probably had a better life then most elves can boast. Sadly on the eve of his 3rd birthday, his clan was attacked by a hoard of humans, likely bandits, much of the clan was so preoccupied with preparing a celebration that they stood little chance and were almost all killed. Only Tathlan and his mother escaped the slaughter, but his mother was badly hurt. After almost a week of hiding the two were found by a group of Templars hunting apostates in the forest (It wouldn't be surprising if they were searching for Dalish Keepers), the leader took pity on the woman and her child had them escorted to a nearby Antivan town where Tathlan's mother died from an infection in her wound. So the young Dalish boy grew up under the protection of the local Chantry, taught to scorn his own people as dangerous thieves living in the woods. The Chantry's teaching on magic were of a particular interest to Tathlan, he took the teaching of the evils of blood magic particularly to heart when he learned about the Tevinter Imperium's enslavement of his kind. Those teachings seemed to ring absolutely true when at age 11, a group of rogue mages reduced the town to nothing but ash, several of them using blood magic to turn his friends and family against each other. If not for the Chantery's Templars Tathlan would not have survived, although he will always question their decision to save him instead of someone else. From there he was taken to Antiva city and essentially sold to a nobleman to be live as a servant and personal assassin. For the next 14 years Tathlan took the lives of dozens of men and women whom his master had decided needed to die for one reason or another, becoming the Noble's most prized assassin, earning a life most elves couldn't even dream existed, all the while harboring a hatred towards Blood Magic that would make most Templars nervous.

Combat Style: Archery, dual weapons (Although he'll use what ever weapon he can lift if he doesn't have his own with him)

Name: Aelia Marcus the Raven Witch
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Race: Human/ Witch
Sub-race/nationality: Orlaisean
Class: Mage/Witch
Specialization: Arcane/ Shape shifter
Rank: Grey Warden Veteran Mage
Appearance: http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q290/orihime00/underworld-1-blue-eyes.jpg

Personality: Strong-willed and determined to do what's right, Aelia never gives up in a tight situation. Her mind set is to protect anyone important to her and fight until her last breath. Sometimes her promises have to be broken to try to change the outcome of a situation. Aelia also is kind at heart and serious at times, but she does try to break the tension and calm others' spirits.

Origin Story: Born in the group of Apostate witches who are known as the Witch of the Wilds, Aelia was taught everything the witches could give her because of her significance. The Korcari Wilds is a dangerous place without knowing how to navigate it, and its located in the south-eastern part of Ferelden. A group of Orlaisean witches traveled to the famous witches' village bringing with them a woman of the same race, but with bright ice-blue eyes. They told the Witch of the Wilds this woman would give birth soon, but to a child without a father.

Shocked and intrigued, the leader of the Witch of the Wilds wanted this child as her apprentice. Such a child would grow up with great power, and the leader knew herself, that this child would also help assist stopping the Blight she knew was coming. The Orlaisean woman one day collapsed and fell into labor. The Apostates did everything in their power to save the woman, but she died giving birth to Aelia. The baby was born without a cry, without a word, but with black hair and her eyes were the same icy-blue as the mother's, who's eyes were originally brown. The Orlaisean witches then left the child to the leader of the Wilds, afraid little Aelia would bring bad luck and dark omens of the Blight. Unafraid, the leader acted as Aelia's mentor and adoptive mother.

As a few years passed, Aelia began her training as a Witch where she learned arcane magics of the witch and Mage magic. One of the most important parts of her training was her learning the magic of a shape shifter. Her mentor and few witches were the only ones who have mastered it, but they knew Aelia could as well. Learning charms and curses on the side, she spent the first twelve years of her life training to be a shape-shifter. It was at eight she managed to shift into a leopard or sorts. Pleased, the mentor knew she could achieve so much more now and many other forms. In just four years, Aelia could shift into not only a wildcat, but a spider, bear, and a raven.

The reason many called her the Raven witch, is because when the witches were attacked by rogue thieves or traveled to different towns for supplies and were attacked, Aelia would shift into a raven and stalk her prey. She'd fly down and shift into a human again stabbing her victims in back or chest. Cursing enemies or using magic to make everything dark, because for some reason she could see perfectly in pitch black. Aelia was the Witch of the Wilds' secret weapon. Others' heard of her throughout land, even the Grey Warden became intrigued.

A Grey Warden name Titus along with his apprentice, Valerius, visited the Korcari Wilds in search of knew additions to the Wardens, and they found the fifteen year old Aelia. Her mentor didn't want her to join, she wanted Aelia to remain the weapon used by the Witch of the Wilds, but Aelia grew tired of it. All she ever did was kill and steal for the Apostates. If she could help others and save more lives, she wanted to become a Grey Warden. Sneaking out at night, Aelia took her most prized possessions and joined Titus and Valerius. The next ten years were spent training and working to become a Grey Warden to fight against the Blight. Aelia managed to become a high ranking Mage under the Wardens, but decided to leave for two years to find her own way. Valerius was rather displeased with this, because they had become so close since they found her. Although saddened, Aelia knew this had to be done, so she could better understand her existence. She returns when a peak in the Darkspawn appears threatening. That, and she misses those she became close to in the Grey Wardens.

Yoru and Hatless are accepted

Edit:

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Once your character has been accepted, I would like players to send me a PM regarding details for their own "personal quest" that will tie in to the plot and allow great character development, combat, as well as some special "realization". The Realization can take form in several ways, but it will always buff up the character: it can be a spell, a mystical sword, a suit of armor, a spellbook, a magical amulet, whatever.

I look forward to the PM's

Alright I think now all we need is a Qunari and/or a Dwarf to round out the cast.

well, we have Cheshire and Ryudo showed some interest. I really hope someone plays a dwarf because they are so much fun to trip over.

I kid i kid.

Still, i find it humorous that we are missing the largest and shortest people in the game. we have everyone in-between

And we don't have any one from Fereldan, which is sorta weird.

StormWolf

Valerius is from Dragon's Peak, which is next to Denirim

Lord Tully

I would accept the challenge of a dwarf character if I knew even the slightest bit about the game, as it is, I feel I am poorly equipped and thus a stumbling block for such a storyline.

Well just go to the Wiki (Link in the OP) and look up the races, the countries, their cultures and the Darkspawn and you'll be pretty able to understand it. Or just buying the game also works really well to if you have the time.

Lord Tully
05-13-2010, 04:14 AM
Really? I was hoping more for a Castless, but hey a Dwarven Noble might be a good way to introduce my assassin.

Name: Leona
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Race: Dwarf
Subrace/nationality: Orzammar
Class: Warrior
Specialization: Berserker
Rank: New Recruit
Appearance: (Will add later, might try finding that Dragon Age character creator program that was released and taking a snapshot with that... since I have the PS3 version :< )

Personality: On the surface, she's your stereotypical dwarf. She likes drinking, she likes fighting and she likes fighting while drunk. She can be lewd and can display a crude sense of humor, to either the delight or chagrin of her companions, depending on their disposition. Under that, however, she does know when to be serious, and is very reluctant to talk about her past or her family.

She respects people who display strength and courage, while deriding cowards as the worst kind of people. On top of that, she does take a measure of pride in her dwarven heritage.

Origin Story: Disgraced Noble- The black-sheep of her family, never caring about noble business, she just enjoyed drinking, fighting in Provings, and leading assaults into the Deep Roads. Her life changed when her father was implicated in the assassination of another noble. Her family was utterly ruined, so she opted to join the Legion of the Dead, sacrificing her name and her life to restore the honor of her family, where she planned to fight and die against the darkspawn... until she was recruited by the Wardens.

Combat Style: 2 Handed Weapons

Weapons and Armor:
Leona wields a two-handed darkspawn battle axe that she took from a darkspawn corpse.

Skills/Spells: Berserk- She is a force of nature on the battlefield, able to go into a berserker frenzy and unleash a hell-storm of death and violence. In combat she shows little regard for her own safety, focusing almost soley on dishing out as much damage as possible to her enemies.

accepted! :D

now, bye new recruit, you mean she has not gone through the Joining yet, correct?

Cheshire
05-14-2010, 02:38 AM
Um... I'll let you decide. I just meant she was new to the Wardens. I assumed she already did for the sake of expediency, but if you want to actually rp her going through the joining, that works for me.
