Rated M for whatever I want to come up with, 'cause I don't feel like worrying about a rating system. There will be gore, there will be swearing, there will be some light sexual situations(maybe). That's about it.

Kepler-22b.

Such a terrible name for what was to be the hope and dreams of humanity, the future of our race amongst the stars. A planet in the perfect habitable zone, with the perfect sun, and the perfect atmosphere. Earth's twin sister. But to reach this unsoiled paradise, we would need the grandest of vessels. An Ark of biblical proportions in an age without bibles or churches. Though, there were still gods and worship of those gods. These deities were tangible, and their miracles were science. If whatever gods before these had chosen not to get it right, now it was the turn for men to create themselves in whatever image they desired. Masterpieces of flesh and plastic intertwined, sculptures of bone and metal. This was the time of beautiful and infallible science.

The Elysium, dubbed an "Edenship" as though there would be more, was this ark. How hopeful the human race is, such optimists when it came to their own glories. Plastering their mortal creations with names from dead cultures and forgotten religions in some manner of cosmically smug joke. This first and last Edenship was built with every ounce of technology from all the peoples of our humble blue planet. Pooled resources the likes of which no project in human history had seen. Geniuses of science, walking gods in their own right, poured all their creations onto this behemoth of science. Like a mosquito, it bloated larger and larger with every experimental(though, we were assured, it was completely tested and safe) new idea. So large it needed a special spacedock built orbiting Earth, a floating city of millions for the sole purpose of constructing the dreams of mankind into a spaceship. It took twenty years to complete.

- The Galactic Standard year 2635, Elysium is completed.
- 2638 GS, the Edenship's passengers were chosen. The greatest representatives of our time boarded their Ark. They launched, hurtling into the black curtain of space toward that one sparkling little diamond that held Kepler-22b on it's brim.

- Two months later, all contact was lost.

- 2645 GS, Elysium was found.

http://i.imgur.com/Op4p8q5.jpg?1

Length: 2,523 km
Population: 3,000,000(At time of departure)

When the Elysium was lost, the people of Earth continued to hope for a time that it was simply a malfunction of the communications. Interference or some other unsatisfying explanation. They continued to dream. As seven years passed by, the Elysium faded from memory while situations of Earth only deteriorated. The workers on the mighty spacedock used to construct the Edenship were eventually sent home to earth, their purpose over... but, after twenty years, could you really call it their home anymore? Instability was inevitable. Riots, overcrowding, corruption, and economic depression. The greatest project ever finished by man's hand had been a failure, and all those resources and time spent on it now took it's toll on Earth. What would have been their salvation instead helped speed them along to oblivion.

Just in the darkest of hours on Earth, seven years to the day since contact was lost, the Elysium called out. A distress beacon suddenly activated in the dead of space, halfway between Earth and their destination of Kepler-22b. It allowed mankind to begin hoping again and forgetting their worldly troubles. The politicians cried that this man-made heaven would not be lost to space forever. The pride of humanity would be rescued, repaired, or at least put to rest properly. Other optimists predicted that it was perfectly possible for the three million aboard the vessel to still be alive, waiting for rescue, and the mission for Kepler-22b could be resumed. The plan was made to form a small initial scouting party, to board the Elysium and ascertain it's condition. A crew of a handful of experts, hand-picked for the mission, to arrive before the rest of humanity's repair or salvage fleet.

OOC INFORMATION

Alright, welcome to the mature sci-fi roleplay Apotheosis. I hope you enjoyed the in-character background, I hope it gave you a sense of just what sort of world we're trying to make here, but now it's time for me to lay out some of the specifics.

I will be running this roleplay in a purely GM sense. The Elysium will be a sandbox for you to explore, and learn the 'story' of the ship in whatever way you choose. Whenever a new area is explored, I will detail what the area looks like and try to give you points of interest. I will then respond to the actions of the characters as needed, until the group moves on from that area. Yes, the party can split up, but please throw me a bone and don't ALL go in 8 different directions. You're a team, you should try to stick together.

Characters

First things first, lets talk about characters. Hopefully you're just raring to go whip one up, but hold yer horses partner! We got some stuff to get outta the way first.

- Initially, you will all be playing as members of this scouting crew boarding the Elysium. You will each fulfill a general role, a specialty. Later on there will be the opportunity to create very different sorts of characters.
- I don't care if you double up on characters, especially once we get into the real meat of the roleplay. Just make sure you can handle the extra load.
- You will give me a writing sample with each character sheet. I don't care how long or short it is(if you have to ask for a number you're missing the point). If you think it adequately showcases your literacy, then submit it.
- I really want you to work with me as you create your character. I enjoy answering questions you might have, and I will let you know when I think something about your character doesn't quite fit the setting. It's not a big deal, we'll hammer it out together.

Name:
Age: (generalized is fine, just let us know how many wrinkles to expect)
Gender:
Appearance: (Text or Image is fine)
Specialty Role: (The role on the crew your character will fulfill. Android, Scientist, Soldier, Engineer, or Medic. Make sure to work it into your background.)
Background: (Biography. Your character's history. It gives me something to work with.)
Personality: (Let us know what to expect. Is your character the gruff veteran or the dorky nerd.)
Extra: (Anything else you want to let us know)

The Roster

~I will reserve spots based on a first come, first serve basis.~

I will be employing a color-coding process, that will tell specific characters information only they would know in In-Character posts. Here's a little example:

The team finds itself in a botanical garden, with green fungus crawling over the walls. The fungus looks like no natural strain you know of, a completely new breed. It makes the floor feel sticky, and it seems to be pulsing in a sickly way. The air in the room feels heavy. The giant vines from the plants have busted open the vents at the top of the room, and the big machine in the center is totally shut off. Wow, you've never seen anything like it!

In the example, only scientist characters will notice that this fungus is strange and foreign. The engineers will notice that the machinery in this room is shut off. How the characters react to that knowledge is up to them, but only they will notice these specific things.

Technology Level

Yes, you read correctly, there is a space for one android. I'll explain the level of technology to expect in this roleplay now.

- Synthetic limbs are common. They are all largely unobtrusive, though. Example: simply a metal arm, not a metal arm that shoots grappling hooks and laser beams. It'll be stronger, harder to break or injure, but it will also have the possibility of malfunctioning.
- Genetic engineering is also a pretty mundane thing. You will all still be strictly human, do not go overboard with it. This just means that if your character is from a rich background, you have the option of him/her being something of a genetically engineered prodigy or Adonis. And just maybe some poor dredges of humanity irrationally hate your guts for it.
- The Elysium is a peaceful vessel. In our setting there are no aliens yet discovered, we still believe we are alone in the universe. The only weaponry on board the ship is made for riot suppression and non-lethal crowd control. You won't find laser pistols and rocket launchers just laying around. What you may find is a gun that fires a shockwave that knocks people off their feet. Get what I'm going for here?

The player who creates the android will have to follow some very stringent guidelines, to balance out the advantages being a robot gives you. These guidelines come in the form of Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics:

1: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

2: A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

3: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

I will warn you if you are breaking these laws. If you continue to do it, I'll eventually be forced to destroy your character.

Last thing I want to say is this: Be excellent to each other. And, party on, dudes.

Miscellaneous Info

(Before you read this, know that I encourage you to just make stuff up on your own. Try to have it at least make some sort of sense, but don't be afraid to have fun. This is just random stuff I've detailed in the thread so far, when asked.)

Robots, encompassing full human-like androids all the way to little thoughtless drones, are in the setting. The more complicated they are(ranging from Android on the high scale to a little cleaning drone on the low scale), the more expensive they are. The android on our boarding party(if anyone ever makes one) will be something of a marvel of futuristic technology. It would be like seeing a brand new Lamborghini driving around the street. A cleaning drone, on the other hand, would be more like seeing an old four-door family sedan.

There will be plenty of genetic science in the setting. Things like engineering astounding plants, manipulating genes, and things of that sort. As I stated in the first post, you will still all be strictly human. Stuff like experimenting with complete human-animal hybrids, and cloning full human beings, is still sort of an odd taboo in our setting. Science is directed toward improving the human form, not completely overhauling it.

Space warfare is something that hasn't really been explored in our setting either. There are no aliens that we know of yet, and therefore no reason for slapping giant railguns on your spaceships. All vessels are essentially unarmed. And while mankind has invented things like plasma-shooting guns, railgun weaponry, and other high-tech stuff... you won't find much of it on a spaceship.

The earth's government is united. It's a sort of council made up of all the planet's countries, basically, that we know today. China, America, Russia, etc etc still exist and are now supposed to be working together in this one-world new government of earth. You may all be from wildly different ethnic backgrounds, but you all work for the Earth government. You are part of the Earth navy, or Earth marines, or Earth blah blah whatever. If you're a scientist or something else non-military, you'll work for a giant corporation of some sort. Wei Fung She Pharmaceuticals. Boeing-Ford Manufacturing. Have fun with it, make stuff up, and run it by me if you aren't sure.

I'd like to encourage y'all to have fun with stuff like metal limbs, melding of man and machine in useful ways. Basically every organ can now be reproduced in some sort of metal or plastic form, and likely works more efficiently than the flesh and blood variety it replaced. The catch to this is that it can malfunction(though it'll be rare, don't worry). I figure this might give you engineers another useful job, alongside repairing engines and hacking open airlocks and whatever else. Scientists and doctors will also heavily share knowledge of these things, especially artificial internal organs. Try to steer clear of cybernetic implants and that sort of stuff, I'm not really sure I want to delve too far into that area. I'd like everything to still be quite visceral and hands-on.

I actually do have a question. I'm working on an engineer and wanted to know should she have a very technical way of speaking or does there not have to be any blatant displays of her occupation, besides maybe a badge that says she is in fact an engineer by rank?

Jeremor
02-03-2013, 09:11 PM
You don't have to constantly blab about conduit couplings and plasma forcefield linkages(or similar sci-fi jargon), but she should know what the hell she's talking about when she needs to.

That's something I should have addressed more... all of the characters on this crew were chosen for the job. They aren't just random guys from the soup kitchen, they're all gonna be fairly experienced. Your characters are specialists in their areas, experts on topics that fall within their domain. If that means you need more specifics on the scientific/technology side of the setting, then just let me know and we'll hash it out.

Edit: Just thought of something...

I'll also give you hints when we are in the real roleplay, when something comes up that your character should know but you the player probably don't. I will be color-coding my IC posts once we begin, with information that only certain "specialties" would pick up on. The color of that sentence or whatever, will tell you who knows it. For instance, if we're in an armory I'll color my text green when I'm talking about how to operate the more complicated weaponry we find.

Hey Jer I'll be joining. Can I reserve the Engineer slot?
Btw how can a ship have a square length ;)

Alright I understand and in respect to the more scientific/technology side, I probably should take you up on the more details, since I sadly don't know as much about future tech as I should. I would think I would have picked up more information with how much sci-fi I actually watch, but alas, I guess not hah.

Yeah you're reserved now.
It's very high-tech stuff, square lengths, ya know. I'd try to explain it but, well, it'd take a few hours. *puffs out chest, coughs*

Alright I understand and in respect to the more scientific/technology side, I probably should take you up on the more details, since I sadly don't know as much about future tech as I should. I would think I would have picked up more information with how much sci-fi I actually watch, but alas, I guess not hah.
It's fine, it's not like we're all theoretical physicists or something.

Well, here's what I'll do. Lets state the general sort of sci-fi confines I've got in mind for the setting...

Lets see, what else should we talk about... Got any other areas of concern?

Edit: Just thought of something else I should probably detail...

China, America, Russia, etc etc still exist and are now supposed to be working together in this one-world new government of earth. ... guess I should probably add this stuff onto the main post, huh?

Oh, another thing you might want to know(being an engineer character), is in regards to biomechanical engineering.

I'd like to encourage y'all to have fun with stuff like metal limbs, melding of man and machine in useful ways. Basically every organ can now be reproduced in some sort of metal or plastic form, and likely works more efficiently than the flesh and blood variety it replaced. So no in built swift army knife with a welder in addition? Just a stronger, tougher version of a normal arm? Ok.

Precisely, thank you for the example.

This may seem kind of... obtuse? But I'd just like for everybody to still remain quite human, if that makes sense.

Name: Gregor Wolfstead
Age: 32
Gender: M
Specialty Role: Engineer
Appearance:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/launchgram/static/img/RelatedProductImages/funny-product-images/JosephGordonLevitt-beard.jpeg

Personality: Gregor is a gentle man who puts up a tough exterior. Despite being a pacifist he has spent a lot of his life working alongside the military and adjusted his attitude to get along with the soldiers he spent a lot of time around. This often puts him at odds with other people in his own profession when working with the military. He has great respect for the human life and will put himself on the line to protect others though he has a hard time raising his hands to protect them.
He is rather intelligent and enjoys showing off his work and creations to others.

Background: Gregor grew up in a middle class family which lived on the north east Australian coast in the Oceanic Block of Earth. He was well off and went to a private high school where his high grades drew attention to him from the AGL-Dynamics corporation, a group which held several government and military contracts pertaining to the manufacture of electrical systems.

Under an AGL scholarship he moved to their NSW based HQ and teaching academy. While there he performed well though he found himself at odds with the many military personnel he encountered. It was here he began to develop his tough persona though he still avoided long periods of interaction with non-civilians.

Upon graduating Gregor immediately joined in the work Elysium. For 3 years he was part of the giant team who worked on the orbital station constructing the ship. It was some of the happiest days of his life, he was able to work with those of his own profession and dropped the persona he had spent the last 4 years building, though he didn’t forget it, always ready to slip back in if need be.

When the Elysium was released and subsequently lost Gregor was one of the least affected of those who had worked on it. Having only spent 3 years away Earth had not changed too much in his time. He returned to his parent’s home and continued to work for AGL-Dynamics, managing to remain relatively removed from the problems that were caused by the return of the workforce.

When contact was re-established with the Elysium Gregor was one of the few engineers that was fit enough to send on the mission, had worked on Elysium during construction and was locatable in the chaos that Earth had become. He was picked to join the team that was sent to rescue Elysium from whatever ad befallen it.

Extra: Despite being an engineer his respect for human life has made his refuse any cybernetic implants unless absolutely necessary. He’s never without his tool belt which contains a general assortment of tools as well as a hand welder, blowtorch and handheld computer.
Let me know if anything needs changing. As for my writing I hope this (http://role-player.net/forum/showthread.php?t=38388) suffices. Also the 11 Sages link in my sig shows a large amount of my writing (though only read chapter 1, 2 isn't edited).

Name: Esther Mendoza
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Appearance: http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag3/trouble-muffin/RP%20character%20pics/Esther_zps9f8d5063.jpg
Specialty Role: Scientist
Background: Esther grew up in a nice enough home in Napa, California, where her parents live to this day. They were still married after 34 years and had seen the world change so drastically in that time. No matter how crazy things got in the outside world, the inside of their home has always remained a safe haven. After finishing high school, she had gone to Santa Rosa junior college and then transferred to a university upstate in Humboldt. It was there that she had gotten passionately involved in protesting for environmental safety and restoration with a relatively large group of fellow students. She managed to keep her grades up and switched her major to environmental science. After graduating with an AS in Biological Sciences and a BS in Environmental Science, she was hired by a friend’s father who funded a Wildlife Refuge. She kept up with her research and published a few articles about the importance of protecting what species diversity was left in their world. It was this work that inspired her to delve deeper into determining exactly what conditions were necessary for an environment to be survivable. She decided to go back for her Master’s degree and afterwards quickly submitted several grant requests to restore some of the toxic wastelands to a life-supporting state. Many were declined, such a hopeful mission deemed impossible by such a jaded society. However, a few were accepted, and of those experiments, two were successful. She quickly gained the attention of the scientific community and more of her next batches of grant requests were accepted. Shortly after hearing about the rediscovery of Elysium, Esther was asked to join its scouting crew and immediately accepted.
Personality: The self-proclaimed “defender of life” is, naturally, an absolute pacifist. She had been one of the majority who had voted for keeping Elysium a peaceful vessel. She hopes that had not been a mistake. What if its passengers had been attacked by some force that was beyond such peaceful notions? She was a spirited and opinionated woman, with the knowledge to back up her claims. Driven by logic and reason, she’s not reluctant to let new information persuade her opinions, granted its sources’ credibility are undeniable. This mission could potentially force her to question her pacifistic beliefs, but she is not afraid to do so.
Even though she is passionately opinionated, she’s willing to accept others’ right to interpret the knowledge life presents them in their own way. She is friendly and altruistic, but perhaps a little too quick to trust.
Extra: Not only is Esther a pacifist, she’s an ovo-lacto vegetarian, meaning she will only eat egg and dairy products—nothing that an animal had to die for. This may pose a challenge for her later, but she will most likely continue to abide by her dietary preferences unless doing so will result in starvation to the point of risking permanent damage.
Kira smelled the thing before it even entered the clearing. These vital seconds of warning had surely saved her from being charged instantly. She tried as hard as she could to stifle her breath and stay perfectly still, remembering what Marty had said about the big ones relying on sound to hunt because of their terrible vision. He had claimed that they could only see vague blobs of color and blurs of motion, though Kira had no idea how he could be so certain of such a thing. Her heart slammed against her ribcage so loudly that she was horrified it would give her away.
The noxious blend of death, decay, and defecation burned her nostrils and turned her stomach, getting progressively more overwhelming as the beast drew closer. It came up to the edge of the pond and began drinking deeply, mere yards away from the tree she had been resting under. She now stood backed up against it, one hand on her knife and the other pressed to her mouth. Kira’s eyes watered and her tongue started secreting that thin saliva that meant hurling was officially inevitable. She could only hope to survive afterwards.
After restraining it for what seemed like eons passed the point she felt she no longer could Kira succumbed and wretched up the stew they had eaten a few hours before. She pulled out her knife and wiped her mouth with one swift motion, bracing herself in case the beast should attack. It almost certainly would, but she still dared not move any more than absolutely necessary. The smell of her vomit mixed with the stench of the beast was certainly the most wretched scent she’d ever been exposed to, and she did not want it to be her last. Heart racing, she anticipated the beast’s next move.

DoughGuy, character sheet looks lovely. Welcome aboard. And yeah, your post history is sufficient for a roleplay sample.

Trouble.Muffin, Character sheet looks fine. Only thing I'd like to ask you to edit in there, is saying where she was geographically born/raised. It's just something I could use during the roleplay.

In response to your question(though I think you've figured it out), the crew we'll be playing are experts sent ahead of any sort of large-scale recovery effort of the Elysium. They're handpicked people by the government of Earth. You don't have to all be perfect, but you'll all be very competent in your fields of specialty at the very least. Make sense?

Also, I'd like to ask you for a link to a post you've written that you think is a pretty good example of your roleplaying... or you can copy and paste something here, or write an entirely new one. Whatever works, I just don't want to have to go searching.

Lithiora, android reserved for ya.

Lithiora
02-04-2013, 02:10 PM
Name: Rheezalnadroid-213 (Rheeza for short)

Age: Created and completed in the year 2634 before the Elysium was ready.

Gender: Female exterior

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/Feshile/silence_by_velocitti-d5ho4qk.png

Specialty Role: Android

Background: Rheeza was created before the Elysium was ready to to be launched. She, we will refer to her as she due to her body shape and voice chip, was meant to be sent on the Elysium, but the man that had created her had decided to keep her selfishly for himself.

Soon after she was created, she was taken to his home and was left locked away in a secret room. He would use her to tend to his personal needs be it cleaning, cooking, or other male requirements. He had created her to be a perfect specimen. Ready to complete any task regardless of what it was.

Although he desired for her to be more, she was only an android and would only follow those orders that would not put any human at risk. His wife Diana had come home one day and found Rheeza in the bed with her husband. He panicked and demanded that Rheeza take care of her. She denied the order to kill and so he shut her down. He chose instead to take his wife's life on his own.

His house was searched by the military after he was caught and they found Rheeza. He was immediately sentenced to be executed for they feared what other things he had leaked out of the labs. Once his life was extinguished and all communication was lost with the Elysium, Rheeza was taken and upgraded with newer information until she was up to date.

The day when the distress beacon was received, Rheeza was activated and a unanimous decision to send her with the team was made. And so Rheeza was sent along with the other crew.

Personality: Rheeza is very stoic and monotone. Her face rarely shows any form of emotion, and even that emotion which one would normally show is forced due to her lack of understanding in human emotion. She often corrects people when she knows the right answer or response. Though she does not understand much about the human race and their range of emotions, she does her best to help them in her own way.

Extra: (Here is a little clip of how I will be writing with her. This will be my first time writing as a bot and not a human or human like race.)

Rheeza's eyes blinked slowly as she looked from each of the humans before her. The blinking was mechanical, every 3.4 seconds she would blink. It never failed, for she never got excited, nor angry, nor sad. Her emotions were in check because they did not exist.

She was not programmed to feel anything. Though she had been told what an emotion was, she would never have one. She blinked again, preparing for the next request, and so it came.

"Rheeza, get the tool kit from the front of the ship."

She nodded stiffly and began to head to the front of the ship, for fluid motions were not entirely her forte. Though it was not required for her to move fluidly. Like the water that she had watched in the cups on the ship that the humans drank from. When they lifted the cup to their lips, it moved as though lacking form. From what she had known, it had no form indeed. Though what is something truly without something keeping it grounded.....

Name: James Grant

Age: 31

Gender: Male

http://www.watchfreemovies.ch/content/names/billy-boyd-141277.jpg

Specialty Role: Medic

Background: James was born near New London, England, to a large and extremely well-off family. His parents had what they liked to call “old money”. They were one of the few families in that heavily overcrowded part of the world that could afford to have a such a large, sprawling house and equally impressive garden.

He was a happy child and absolutely inseparable from his older brother Patric. They remained close all through their school days, and when Patric announced he wanted to become a doctor, James knew he'd follow in his footsteps. However, where Patric concentrated on the research aspect of medicine, James wanted a more hands-on role.

Thanks to his natural intellect and easy-going yet dedicated nature, James did well. He finished his studies at a young age and soon made a name for himself as a surgeon – the kind of man to go to when the going got rough. He seemed to perform at his best when the pressure was on, and eventually began to savour the exciting feeling those life or death situations created.

Meanwhile, his brother Patric, now a famous biophysicist, got a job on the Elysium. He would be swept away to Keplar-22b, never to be seen again. This created a huge amount of tension within the family, as no one wanted Patric to leave. In the end, the brothers parted ways angry and bitter.

He deeply regretted the harsh words he'd last spoken to Patric, and wished he'd done more to try and stop him from boarding the ship. In the seven years that passed during which Earth had no contact with the Elysium, James changed. Gone was the cheerful, carefree young doctor with a bright future. In his place was a quiet, surly man older than his years.

But then, hope came in the form of the distress beacon. Perhaps Patric was still alive. Perhaps there was still time to make amends. He heard a team was being assembled to board the Elysium and jumped at the chance to be one of the crew. He begged, lied, cheated and shamelessly used his family name to ensure that he was one of the doctors sent along.

Personality: Very few things can get James down. He prefers to look at the bright side of things and prides himself on keeping a cool head when it seems like everyone else is falling apart. He's no leader, but knows how to step in and take control of a situation if the need is there. Only mentions of his brother will make him close up and become surly, but since the reappearance of the Elysium, even that isn't as bad as it was.

Extra:

- James stands 5'4” tall.
- He has a terrible fear of heights – something he's very ashamed of.
- As stated before, he does well under pressure – the more dire the better.

In the prosperous merchant city of Gylla, the streets were wide and clear. Polished river rocks made up the walkways, and the buildings' crystal walls shimmered white in both moon and sunlight. It was a clean, orderly place; not somewhere one could get easily lost.

Nor was it a place in which to throw off a pursuit.

There was too much light, even with the midnight moon mostly hidden behind a thin blanket of cloud. Shadows were sparse, and stretched too thin for proper cover.

That was why Nir did not concentrate on stealth and concealment. The hunters knew he was there – and he them – so there was not much point in trying to hide; had he tried, they would eventually have found him. That evening, speed was his only focus.

He was making use of the rooftops, steep and flat alike. The leap from building to building was wide, but achievable – for him, at least. Having been left behind some minutes ago, three of the five men on his trail had been defeated by the gaps. The remaining two were doing better, keeping even pace with him. In the relative silence of the night, their rhythmic breathing was a loud reminder of the danger that lay at his back.

Nir was very aware that the balance in their power and ability would not remain level forever. He was growing tired, and the sack slung over his right shoulder seemed to increase in weight with every step and jump. The hunters were not so encumbered, carrying only their respective weapons of choice. One of the men – unlike the other, whose broadsword was still sheathed at his hip – bore a multitude of throwing knives, many of which he'd already flung at Nir's fleeing form. The long stream of crimson all along his side was evidence of his accuracy.

It was that same accuracy that caused him to slip up.

A faint whine of parting air hailed the release of another expertly tossed knife, and Nir ducked blindly to the side, hoping to avoid its cut. His dodge was successful – unfortunately, his footwork was not. Slippery from his own blood and caught off balance mid-stride, Nir felt his sandal slide out from underneath him. He stumbled, trying to correct without breaking speed, but it was useless. Forced to rely on barely remembered training, he rolled into the fall. Nir had just enough control to keep himself from taking a tumble off the edge of the high rooftop, coming to a harsh, skin-scraping stop on his injured side.

Gritting his teeth, he was on his feet again in an instant only to find the tip of a sword flashing towards his upturned face. It whistled past his chin with less than an inch to spare as he skirted backwards, eyes on the serene face of his attacker.

All looks great now, Trouble.Muffin. Welcome aboard officially.

I'd like to give it until maybe the end of this week. By then, I figure I would've heard from all interested people and hopefully we'll get another good roleplayer to fill a soldier role... or Lithiora, if you're really sure you can handle doubling character so early.

Waiting until Sunday or Monday(I am UTC - 5, EST) to begin will also give yall ample time to ask any questions you might still have, too. Feel free, as always, folks.

Hey, I'm interested in filling up one of those Soldier spots. I should have a CS up soon ( if not tonight then tomorrow night ). I assume because we are "A crew of a handful of experts, hand-picked for the mission" that it would not be implausible that my character would be special forces( i.e. elite soldier possibly with implants trained for special operations with a small team)?

Well here's my CS. I hope the special forces thing is O.K. because that is what I did. If you want me to change anything or have problems with anything let me know.

Name: Felix Archer

Age: 32

Gender: M

Appearance: http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/56614809/Gerard+Butler+gerardpng2.png

Specialty Role: Soldier

Background: Felix was always part of a military family. His father, his mother and all of their fathers in recent memory all served in a branch of the military. Apart from the frequent relocations normal in a military family's life, Felix's early life was very normal He was an athlete and a happy kid raised in a middle class family. His family was not poor or rich. They were never struggling for food or commodities and they always seemed to have some extra money lying around for luxury items on special occasions. However, this all changed when his mother died in a plane crash on the way home from an off-base deployment.

Felix's life quickly spiraled out of control soon after. His father became depressed, reckless and easily agitated, often venting on Felix and talking back to superiors. After multiple failed assignments, constant failures to report for duty, and general sub-par effort in keeping up his military career, Felix's father was discharged from the military and Felix and his father were forced to move off of the military base housing they lived in. This did not make the situation better for Felix.

Quickly his father ran out of money. Without a source of income or something to occupy himself with their remaining money was lost in countless visits to the bar and casinos. Eventually, Felix's father found a job on Elysium where, in another tragic turn of events, he died in an accident.

Felix went to live with his uncle, a special forces NCO( non-commissioned officer) who was often away. Unlike most other kids in his situation he held his head high and pushed on through the rough patch in his life. He continued to play sports throughout high school and won scholarships for academics and sports. However, he declined these and decided to join the marines, then eventually the special forces.

Personality: Felix Archer is calm and composed. He has a fierce anger, however he does not show it by shouting or revealing intense emotions, but instead will act without warning. In this way he is more dangerous than the average marine hothead. Despite not going to college, Felix is very smart, with the right education he could become a talented engineer or scientist, his intelligence and quick thinking have immensely helped him advance his military career.

Extra:

- Felix has been repeatedly offered implants subsidized by the government to enhance his eyesight and aim. He has repeatedly declined stating the possibility of failure during a mission and that his current, natural, state was working well enough.

Sorry if the sample doesn't match the story. I tried to keep it pretty close but also wanted to make it about the selection of my character.

Joint Committee on the Selection of Elysium Recovery Squad
2645 GS- 0830h (Shortly after the discovery of Elysium's location)

“What about Roman Lewis? He has experience on the docks. He worked on Elysium before enlisting a second time.”

“No. He's reckless. He was almost dishonorably discharged, and, most importantly, he doesn't always get the job done. He's all brute force and no results, and to top it off he's never worked in a squad smaller than eight before. He is not our man.”

“I know you won't like it, but what about Felix Archer? You know his record. You know he gets the job done. He's damn smart too, might as well be one of the scientists.”

The committee head, General Richard Lawson, a military official from Britain, glared across the dark wooden table to the military representative of the United States. The rest of the representatives, chiefs of military and state alike sat apprehensively. Only a few didn't know the names being suggested. They had been sent thorough reports ahead of time and had displays of each proposed candidate in front of them. Each country wanted their own man on the job. The combined list of candidates from all the countries contained over one hundred each of respective special forces or otherwise elite or specialized units and each very qualified for the mission in their own way.

“No. I think we all know sending someone with mommy and daddy problems with Elysium is a bad idea. Additionally, I believe -”

“I think we all know Archer is the best candidate. If you've ever met the man, you'd know that his so called 'mommy and daddy problems' are non-existent. Not only that, but we need the smarts, not the brute force in this mission. We need an independent soldier, willing to work in a small group of civilians and military alike and solve an unknown problem with one of humanity's greatest achievements. We don't need a hothead marine with something to prove, or a specialized counter-terrorist in this situation. We need a logical, intelligent, independently thinking soldier with a good record. Archer fits the bill. Felix Archer is our man.”

Lawson glared at the representative across the table from him, clearly not happy about being interrupted. He opened his mouth, as if to say something, but before he could get anything out he was interrupted once again. The Chinese representative stood and began to speak.

“ Associates, fellow representatives of the union of our great countries. I, the representative of China, as well as our allies of France, Russia, Japan and Germany, Belgium, and Canada, are in unanimous support of Felix Archer as one of the military candidates for this mission. We are willing to compromise our own candidates to compromise for Archer's spot in this mission. Thank you.”

Each of the mentioned countries nodded in agreement, and the United States representative smiled at the committee head as if taunting him to make his next move. Lawson paused for a moment, contemplating the effects of the decision and the political might of his opponents and spoke out.

“Felix Archer is approved for said mission. He be sent a letter of reassignment of top priority in the next hour and will meet the team for deployment within twenty four hours. Committee adjourned. We will reconvene for the next appointment in four hours. Dismissed.”

I'm putting the finishing works on my CS now and was wondering how you feel about AI? And as for the pictures, my original one was illustrated but I figure I will use a realistic as well as the cgi. Is that okay?

Name: Nicolette G. Wilder
Age: mid - late 20s
Gender: female
Appearance: see image(s) http://i.imgur.com/NfZKVYs.jpg http://i.imgur.com/8suNYJE.png
Specialty Role: Engineer

Background: Born about a decade before the Elysium’s completion, Nicolette grew in the midst of excitement and renewed vigor among earth’s populous. She knew of the Earth’s growing inability to support human life. It was hard enough for her in the large family she loved so much. There was simply not going to be enough space, and she was happy as well as astounded to watch along with the masses as the edenship launched from its station above the atmosphere. That historic launch was enough to plant the seeds of aspiration and exploration.

With a sense of eagerness in the future to come, she threw herself into the studies of all things electrical, mechanical and chemical, even going so far as to frequent the old, dusty libraries that had managed to not be torn down for more space in the frenzy of the population crisis.

It was unsurprising that most of the books were technical in nature. Conventional machine maintenance and operation manuals highlighted the key points of her knowledge base. Thankfully, some of the machines of an older time could be found in the right landfill if one looked, and it was there that she manifested her second love, tinkering.

She read and studied like nothing else, barely paying attention to her extracurricular activities long enough to enjoy being a part of her middle school’s swim team, but she managed, and it all paid off.

At the age of twelve, she and all the young students in her grade were the first to participate in a new form of standardized testing. It was only supposed to serve as a sort of normal distribution for the research company that had developed the test and questions. Under the premise that its students had the perfect collection of ethnicity, gender, and class, her school had accepted the researchers of Egerri Corp. with pride eager to learn the “intelligence and mental capacity” of their fine students.

Taking the strange assessment was interesting to her, seeing as many of the questions that the kids were being asked to answer were definitely not meant for their age group. She was sure there were grown ups who did not know the answers, but she did the best that she could using the test taking system taught to all middle schoolers.

Imagine her surprise when her parents informed her months later that she had scored among the 10th percentile of all the students given the test and was selected to attend a government-funded institute for gifted children. Of course she was overjoyed; it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. She had never broached the subject of a military career with her Average Joe and Jane parents, but she had always wanted to ask, not for the military itself however. She wanted to be close to the program dealing with Elysium and Kepler. One day she wanted to go there. It was her dream.

So, she was shipped off as a part of the Warburg, whom she had learned was a 20th century biochemist, Adaptation and Research Processing Institute. Amongst the top 10 she had ranked lucky 7, and that was okay with her. She was simply eager to get started in the program, expecting it to be completely amazing. It was…something, but she would not call it “amazing”. What felt like a flurry of space and time went by all in which, she and the other WARP kids, as they were known, underwent testing, training, and…many dying for a cause that none of the adults wanted to extrapolate on aside from them being “perfect examples of human ability”.

Humans weren’t perfect. They were never meant to be, but the scientists experimenting on her and the kids she had accepted as her new family seemed intent on perfecting them. Countless chemical cocktails and therapies chained their very DNAs until she came upon a point where she questioned if she even counted as human anymore. Her only consolation was that apparently, she was still herself. No weird side affects aside from some long-term memory loss.

This went on for years until only 3 WARP kids remained. She along with another girl and a single boy were the only ones left after the trial and error period. Equipped with 100% mental capacity, the resultant complete body control, and a nifty but…irritating neural implant by the name of PREDATOR AI. They were ready to be shipped to Kepler on the next ship out. Earth would not give up so easily in the wake of the ship’s disappearance. Well, at least she was a part of the ones who never had, even when faced with of not-so-encouraging circumstances.

By the time the decision was to be made, she knew exactly what field of interest caught her attention the most. All three of the WARP kids could not go into a specific field. So she chose the one she loved most. She wanted to be an engineer, a builder of mechanical feats and astounding automata.

They let her do as she wished, and she built, repaired, and optimized whatever was given to her with the zeal of a human and the finesse of the AI that had made itself – actually himself—an integral part of her existence. She was not a machine, but she could think like one if ever inclined to do so.

With the skills that she had developed and the ones that had been given to her, she stated her case before her superiors as to why she should be allowed to go with the select few being sent ahead to scout out the ship's remains. Her hook: anything required of her, she could do. They knew it, and that knowledge was all she needed to win her case.

Personality: Nicolette has an… interesting personality, bordering on the awkward. She has had more than enough experience with pain and life to not fit the category of child-like or naïve. But her interaction ability with people can be lacking when it comes to certain circumstances. She spent most of her childhood surrounded by apathetic scientists, analytical researchers, and children that were for the most part, just like her. Thrown into situations where people do not already know who she is…throws her off. She doesn’t know how to explain herself, her circumstances, or what she’s thinking to other people, because she isn’t used to it. In most cases her AI will speak for her, while those around her are none the wiser. However when she does manage to speak as she wishes, she is a very sweet girl, idealistic and, on occasion, unrealistic in her ideals.

Extra: PREDATOR AI = Prototype Reconnaissance and Enhanced DNA-based Adaption of a Threat Interceptor and Response AI

Nicolette’s neural implant has a mind of its own. A mishap with a switchboard gave her enough of a jolt to break the AI”s shackles, allowing it to gain sentience over time. “He” goes by the name of Omega and converses with Nicolette via her own stream of consciousness. Despite his technical acronym, Omega is not a martial AI, he is not for the purpose of Nicolette being a “super-soldier” his main purpose is for the collection of data beyond the scope of human ability. While Nicolette is free to interact with the world around her Omega takes in data constantly, telling her relevant facts or items of interest before storing them for her own use later. Nicolette has the ability through genetic manipulation to easily use all of her brain; Omega’s “job” is to collect data aside from that which she collects for herself to make use of her enhanced mental capacity. When Omega is speaking through her, Nicolette’s eyes will appear a lighter shade of their natural green. Most people never notice as eyes changing color is not an uncommon trait.

"I'll never understand just why the powers that be had to make it so that the important herbal remedies happen to grow painfully close to the carnivore territories..." Rudy was beside himself with ennui as he grumbled in annoyance, running at top speed through the trees while narrowly avoiding underbrush with nimble leaps and agile bounds. The people of his village seemed to have run out of some important plant or another. He didn't have the mind to remember exactly. He simply knew it was 4-leafed and deep green with red veins running throughout the entirety of the frond.

Of course, he just happened to be free that day, so they made use of his unaffiliated attention, and shipped him off into the trees on a wild plant chase. It shouldn't have been that hard to find at least. He knew where he was going, and had even smelled a bit of the ground leaf for good luck. It was far into the deep forest from what he could tell, and he liked to think his sense of smell was pretty good. His nose and a rough estimate were what he had to work with, and accordingly, he was following said senses.

With mostly-white hair bound tightly at the top of his head and streamlining behind him in a pink-tipped length of silken tresses, he felt like he might just fly and smiled brilliantly with the daydream increasing his speed and taking an exceedingly high jump from the top of a fallen oak. He spread his lithe arms wondering if maybe they might act as wings for a moment. If only, if only...

Going as fast as he was, it shouldn't have taken him more than a half-day or so to get to the plant and back. He'd simply fill the brown leather satchel at his side to the brim and make a swift getaway lest he encounter some unsavory types...more specifically types that might find him savory. An involuntary shudder ran up his spine at the thought, causing him to cast it away as if it scalded him.

He really shouldn't be stereotypical of the meat-eaters. Just because unrest was rearing its ugly maw, didn't mean he should jump to conclusions. He should simply focus on the task at hand and ignore the fact that he had long since crossed the territorial lines set ages ago. Easy, completely easy.

Here we go, one CS for a doctor.

Name: Dane Black

Age: 29

Gender: Male

Appearance: http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/qq192/I4NI/dudeinsuit_zps623a8a6e.jpg

Dane isn't dressed in as formal wear as seen in this photo, he is usually found in a form of scrubs while working or wearing his white lab coat while walking around. He is in excellent physical condition and takes good care of his health, with the exception of his left leg which he had bionically replaced after a terrible auto accident. The leg functions extremely well, and is top of the line.

Specialty Role: Doctor, Emergentologist (Emergency Medicine)

Background: Dane was born in a middle class family in a small town in Nevada, USA. What he needed his parents always provided, so he never went without. He was an excellent student in school, having near perfect grades in every course he took; he also was an exceptional lineman in football. After High school, he went on to a university to get a degree in medicine; he struggled with his classes, since he went to a public school he was far behind the rest of the students, but he still pulled through.

During his time in School, Dane got to watch the launch of the Elysium; he sat rapt in awe, wondering if he would ever get a chance to see this ship or to visit this new world. But those feelings were all for naught. As the years went by, and the loss of the Elysium was finally accepted by the majority of society; Dane let thoughts of it fade from his mind, and he began to focus more on his school work and current life, instead of unobtainable dreams.

Dane finally finished school at the top of his class, and immediately entered the medical field working in the ER. Life for him has been hectic ever since. He gets little sleep as he is always needed at work. He never has time for a relationship and hasn't been seeking one after his divorce with his wife. His children went with her, which was for the best, while he loved them both; they were young and barely knew him at all, he had always seemed to be more of a favorite uncle in their lives, rather than a father figure.

As news of the distress signal from Elysium reached Dane, he felt his dreams kindle back to life. He immediately sought out the authorities, and demanded to be a part of the rescue team; he had built quite the reputation for himself in the Emergency Medicine field over the years, and his name was high on the list of those qualified to go.

Personality: Dane is a cool, calm, and tactful individual. While working with him it has often been noted that he exudes almost an authoritativeness; taking control of a situation where any sort of panic could be detrimental. He rarely shows any signs of a temper, even when confronted by a unruly patient that doesn't want any help. With his co-workers Dane is also referred to as "pops", even if he isn't much older than most of them. He is a very fatherly figure and treats his co-workers as his own kids; he doesn't do this for any specific reason, it is just who he is. Some have wondered that it has to do with his absence from home, and his lack of interaction with his children.

While not on the job Dane is mostly the same, a fairly lighthearted individual that would like nothing more than to take things easy for a few minutes.

Extra:
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 200 lbs

"Peaceful, quiet..."

The Suds & Grub pub was usually a bustling place most times of day, however mid-morning was one of those very rare times when one could eat a meal and have a drink; without being harassed by the generally good-natured people that frequented there. Off in the distance he could here the clatter of dishes as the barmaid Silvia cleared a table, trying to get things squared away for the midday rush. Lifting a hand, Seth flags her down and gestures at his empty mug. Having know each other for a long time, she returns his gesture with a small smile and a nod before hurrying off to the bar.

It only took her a few moments to pour his drink, which much to Seth's delight, she had accomplished with a nice frothy head. He then slipped two coppers from his coin purse and set them on the table, waiting until after she had set the drink infront of him before adding a third to the pile. She wasted no time scooping up the three, and then hustled off to finish what she had been doing. Seth didn't mind. He came to Suds for the drink, not the company. Looking down, he slowly licks his lips staring at the frothy ale...

*Crash*

"Seth!"

A small child, near the age of ten had slammed open the pub door; showing remarkable strength in her excitement. But before the child had even finished saying his name, Seth was out of his seat with Naga in his hands.

"Seth! Haven't you heard!?"

Seth looks at the young girl, noticing a flowery dress covered in mud. "Cassandra" he recalled, and shakes his head. Which only increases the child's excitement.

"Theres been a murder, o'er on Clarence Avenue. And wait till you see it..." She begins to smile rather wickedly. "Ahh, its awful; I only got a quick glance of it before Mum pulled me away. But I did get to see all the guts, and the blood was everywhere..." She began to get more descriptive from there. Not wanting to waste any more time, Seth reaches over and grabs his helm off the table; and then gestures to Silvia letting her know he was leaving.

Cassandra on the other hand, was still continuing her story. He gives her a stern look in the eye briefly before grumbling, "Go home child." He carefully settles Naga back in her scabbard across his back, and slaps his full-helm on. Then without a look back, he briskly walks out the wide open door.

Both characters look good, I can't see any problems with Dane Black. Welcome aboard.

I'd like to talk about a few details with you, though, Cheshirekitty. I'm impressed by the work you put into your character sheet, I just wanted to hammer out exactly what you meant by the AI(Yea I know, I should've answered this question when you asked it before).

You say Omega is an unshackled AI, which means he's basically got a mind of his own. And you say his 'job' is to collect information Nicolette wouldn't otherwise know? How far are you wanting that to reach? Into scientist or doctor specialties? Or just more information on the mechanical workings of things we encounter?

CheshireKitten
02-07-2013, 01:36 PM
Thanks, it was a blast to make her really. As for Omega, he gives Nic a type of hyperactive sensory intake. When I say he collects all the extra bits it would be a like... hm, well, let's say Nic catches sight of a blue metal alloy. She would normally leave it at that and think nothing of it unless she had to make use of it, but Omega leaves no stone unturned.

He would go ahead and add in something like, "Cyanium...developed year 2237 by one Dr. Michalski in the etc etc program for the purpose of etc etc.... named for its stark blue appearance, it is lined with CuO (copper oxide) to prevent oxidation (rust) of any kind as well as galvanized for good measure... Hm, the Ph.D really wanted to make sure this stuff would hold up, huh? Kudos. Anyway, metals included go as follows: iron, titanium, hints of gold for ductility purposes, and, of course, a fair amount of copper. Should you wish to make use of this Nic, I suggest using your welding torch to cut the sheets in the size you intend to use. While Cyanium is fairly lightweight, I wouldn't want you straining your back lugging hunks of the stuff like I know you would attempt."

As for how far it would reach, I would go ahead and say I would keep it in the mechanical department of things. Omega has the capability to give information on anything simply because he can easily hack into a system and learn what he doesn't already know. But Nicolette focuses on the mechanical aspects of things. So even if he were to tell her that a certain something could be used to break down polymers and reconstitute them wherever she so chose to place them. She probably wouldn't mess with them unless she had to. More likely she would leave it to the scientist, because that is their specialty, and she wouldn't want to impose.

I'm off to class so any other questions I'll answer a little later ^^

Jeremor
02-07-2013, 02:32 PM
More likely she would leave it to the scientist, because that is their specialty, and she wouldn't want to impose.

This was my main concern, and I think you've alleviated it sufficiently. Thank you for the detailed response.

I think all that sounds fine. It's sort of like having a snotty know-it-all in your head at all times, I like that aspect of it. I just really didn't want it to reach into other character's areas of expertise, because I'd like for you all to have plenty to do and feel useful doing.

I think you're looking good now, then. Welcome aboard.

I am going to go ahead and start writing up the first IC post, might take a day or two. I think we've got plenty of good characters to begin the roleplay. But don't worry, any of you late-comers! There will be plenty of opportunity for more characters later on.

Short post but Im still a little sick. Just thought it was time to post.

Name: Ibam Wu
Age: Mid 20's
Gender: F
Appearance:https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSHFnM2JrV7v9x_WxEamsFs5SSyxS-QTz0Rw23q1XvEyrXPqU0-BjnG5w
Specialty Role: Soldier
Background: Wu was born in Canton, China. She was the daughter of a proud, if less wealthy, family. When Wu came of age, it was clear that they would not be able to afford to send her to a higher education. Not wanting to take up a mundane job at the bottom of the food chain, Wu decided to join the People's Liberation Army. After years of grueling training, Wu emerged, if not with honors, with distinction from her academy.

Wu had been little more than a child when the Apotheosis had left Earth. She had been old enough to remember her father's remarks about how strange it was that the salvation of Humanity would be named by Westerners and young enough not to care. Now she does. She still marvels that she, of all those in the PLA, was chosen to go investigate the fate of the famed ship.

Personality: Wu is known for compassion... hidden by a stern and usually unyielding demeanor. Raised in a proud Han Chinese family, Wu had inherited her family's distrust and distaste for most Westerners as well as an upright set to her posture. Her family's economic position drove Wu to study hard in hopes of raising her family's condition, resulting in a high awareness of how things around her work. This awareness and her dedication worked well for her in the PLA, earning her the distinction of working with some of the special operations forces. Though she never measured up to them, Wu gained their stonic attitude about the world and their ever-watching eyes.

Extra: During training, Wu had lost her left arm in a munition loading accident. It was replaced with a smooth, if somewhat clunky-operating mechanical arm. Still, Wu considers herself lucky to have it, as they remain a rarity. She had bought it at great price, both to her purse and her pride. At a little more cost, Wu had a shockwave emitter like those used in riot control guns added to it. The up side was that she was never without a weapon. The downside was that it had limited charge and the arm itself was of questionable integrity without regular maintenance.

Hello.

You've got a fine character sheet, but I'm afraid that the roleplay has already started and I'm pretty happy with our current group. In fact, I'm going to go ahead and officially close character recruitment for now. It will be opened again at a later time, if you'd like to check back then.

Are you still accepting? I could easily fill one of the two remaining classes, though preferably I would rather the soldier, just what I'm proficient at and the most believable to appear on the ship. (You'd have to have a security detail somewhere)

Recruiting is closed for now.

What you can both do is just wait a little while, and recruitment will reopen once the current crew boards the Elysium. I will be opening recruitment up for people to play survivors. So, keep checking back and I will post here when recruitment is reopened.

Sorry for the long pause, folks. Made a post now.

Lithiora, go ahead and make up whatever you want to for Rheeza. The Wasp is a pretty small ship with basic amenities, you can fill in the blanks from there. I trust you.

I hope this character is alright!

Name: Alex Dormen

Age: 22

Gender: Female

Appearance:
http://idesigniphone.net/wallpapers/02577.jpg

Specialty Role: Soldier

Background: When Alex was two years old, she saw her dad brutally murdered. He was trying to protect her mom, but he wasn’t strong enough. They took her mom, and she could l watch from under the bed, helpless. Since then, she has gone from orphanage to orphanage, school to school, getting kicked out from her temper. She has had this temper ever since the murder, and she didn’t talk to anyone. Some thought she couldn’t talk, but the truth was, she chose not to. Maybe it had something to do with the fact she had no knowledge of any relatives, but she knew, somehow, her mom was alive. She swore to find her, to save her. She would train, and get as strong as she could, and then she would go find her mom. When she was still quite young, around seven or so, the military was traveling through her current home town. She stole a small sword from them and began to practice every day. She would go on very long runs, until she would collapse from exhaustion. She’s carry the heaviest rocks she could manage. She started running with the rocks too. She got stronger and stronger, and every fight she’d pick at school or at the orphanage she would win, no matter the size of her opponent. These fights also succeeded in getting her kicked out, but she didn’t care. She didn’t have friends there anyway, and didn’t want them either. The older she got, the more she forgot about her goal to find her mom, and she focused just on training. It helped keep her calm. One time she picked a fight with someone smaller than her, and beat him bad. She felt awful once she had realized what she had done. She swore never to fight someone so helpless again. She grew to hate bullies, and have a soft-spot for those being bullied. She stuck up for them, but still kept for herself. She still didn’t talk to people, she preferred to use her fists, and sword if necessary. She preferred to be alone, and people were intimidated by her, so they let her be that way. She never finished much school, and dropped out completely at an early age to focus on training. The military would come through her town now and again, and once she was older, she snuck in once again to get a larger, heavier sword, more her size.

Personality: Alex is very impatient, and stubborn. She doesn’t brag about her skills in fighting, but isn’t afraid to show them off when needed, or angered. This being said, she is very easily angered, so people have to watch what they say around her. She tends to jump the gun and attack on false pretenses, and has gotten in a lot of trouble for that. She is very fit and strong, and very skilled with her sword, as well as her fists. She’s not exactly book smart, seeing as how she didn’t have much of an education, and the school she did attend, she didn’t pay attention, only caused trouble. She despises bullies, and has a soft spot for those weaker, which is about the only thing, other than exercising, that helps her control her temper. She’s afraid of hurting someone too bad again.

Extra: She suspects her mom is being held someone for unknown reasons, and is only striving to find her. She thinks this trip will be the perfect experience before she goes off to find her, not sure if she’ll ever come back.

Sample:
Alex lay on the ground, rather than in a bed, and listened to the sounds of the storm raging outside. Rain pounded on the roof of the orphanage, and thunder cracked in the distance. On occasion, lighting would light up the room again, and she could clearly see the faces of the other children, sound asleep. Then a new noise, a loud commotion, voices and engines. She sat up slowly, but none of the others had awoken. She got up and went over to the window, but it was hard to see through the rain. She slipped on her boots and walked over to the stairs, but she heard voices downstairs, better not let them know she’s up again. She went back to the window and cracked it open. Looking out, she saw a tree very close to the roof, and made her decision. She opened the window a bit more, and silently slipped out, closing it behind her. She tiptoed across the roof, then leaped into the tree, and climbed down easily. Looking around, she saw large vehicles and a lot of people standing around. The cover on the back of a particular vehicle was pushed aside slightly, and a glint from inside caught her attention. No one was near it, so she snuck over and easily slipped inside. She was greeted by a large amount of weapons, from swords to guns. Any normal girl her age, would be horrified, but she wasn’t. No, she was excited. This was exactly what she needed to be strong. She was immediately drawn to the swords, and looked through them. She slid out a smallish sword, perfect for her size. She ran her finger across the blade, then flinched when it broke skin. She examined her finger, blood glistening, and smiled. Suddenly the vehicle coughed, and started to move. Without thinking, she grabbed the sheathe, and slid it on. She tucked it close to her, and leaped out of the vehicle, curling up and rolling safely on the ground. She jumped back up and turned around. She was lucky, they were all leaving, and she stood there alone in the dark. She looked down then pulled the sword out ever so slightly, and smiled once more. Yes, she decided, this would make her strong.

@Lithora Your post looks fine to me, keep up the good work.

@amandaalgebraic Although I'm not the GM of this RP, I feel obliged to respond to your eager application. As Jeremor (the GM) stated to the other two applicants:

Recruiting is closed for now.

What you can both do is just wait a little while, and recruitment will reopen once the current crew boards the Elysium. I will be opening recruitment up for people to play survivors. So, keep checking back and I will post here when recruitment is reopened

Your application looks fine to me, but as stated recruiting is closed for now so it will not be accepted until Jeremor opens recruiting back up. If you really want to RP with us in this story I suggest you keep up with the IC thread and check back here often for updates on recruitment.

Anyways, to the rest of you, I'm also sorry for not posting recently, I've been pretty busy as well. I should have a post up soon.

I've had a very annoying cold for the last week, sorry for the inactivity.

Lithiora, your post was just fine, that's all I needed. Sorry to put you on the spot like that but it just seemed like the natural thing to do, push it off on the robot.

Amandaalgebraic, recruitment is closed, like Sool said. I've tried to change the "Recruiting" tag a number of times and it refuses to go away, apologies for the confusion. I do have to say there were a few problems with your character application, anyway, though. It would not have been accepted. If you do submit a character later, I'll need a bit more fleshed out and setting-appropriate character.

Activity check time.

Who is still into the roleplay? It's nearing the point where I'm going to start leaving people behind. If I don't hear from you by next week, I'll start moving your character along myself. If I still don't hear anything for another week, I'll consider your characters expendable.

If you're busy or whatever that's fine, just let me know you're still interested here.
