Chapter 1a

“Rookies”

“Welcome to hell girls. I’m Gent Price, many know me as ‘Fisher’ here, and we make things out of you. Good things hopefully. And this will be your first time on the field.” Fisher went on walking towards a Valkyrie. “Each of you managed to pass the Valkyrie test, congratulations. Now let’s see if you can even ride one.” He made it to the cockpit entry and pulled the latch. It hissed open revealing a cramped space with a console glittering with a hologram monitor and movement controls. “This here is the cockpit.” He entered the chest where the cockpit was located and sat down. “Many people think we are in the head of a Valkyrie, so lets hope those bastards down there think so too.” The trapdoor began to close slowly. As soon as it closed the Valkyrie stood up and a loud Squeal, most likely feedback from the speaker, he spoke. “Alright girls, get into your respective Suits and prep up. We’re going Ghost huntin’!” His Valkyrie moved forward and stood waiting for the others. “Now before you guys get smart and chicken out, don’t shit with me. I know all your marks on the Valk tests, and all of you did terrible. I want to see improvement you pansy assed excuse of a soldier!” He knew most of them were excellent pilots, many if not all had promise to be great but there was always what they called the ‘Innocence Wall’. The fear of taking a life is hard. Fisher sighed to himself remembering the first man he killed. Well, it was more like 8 men he killed. An Earth Federation Recon group.

“Gent! We got some lucky signals here, looks like some ghosties.” The squad captain singled out Gent. “Set up your remotes, I’ve seen your tests, you’re prodigious with them as I’ve read.” Several guys whistled.
“Captains pet already. Gotta be proud of that.” One of the squad members sent it though as a private transmission. Gent loathed being singled out. He opened up a private folder with his own special programming for his remotes. Many hatches on his Valkyrie opened up and he fired out, like a firework show, a variety of different remotes. Four remotes were Swarm Missiles, traps. Two were Reactive Nets, and one was a Position signal remote. All of them were coated with a rough reflective surface for camouflage. It only took a minute for all the remotes to get in place, The four rocket traps were place in a four corner formation, the two nets were laid out aiming towards the oncoming Recon, and the Signal transmitter in the center. Gent activated the signal transmitter moving slowly away so to allow time for the recon to catch up in hopes they would get a kill but fall into a trap. It was all planned out in his head.
“Just like the Simulator..” Gent repeated in his head. Just then it kicked into his head. If it does work I might have just killed somebody. Maybe someone important to someone else… Can I really do it? Just a press of two buttons and it’ll all be finished. His palms were sweaty, The Recon had taken his bait.
”Just like fishing, Eh Gent?” Another member spoke. Gent didn’t pay attention. He was freezing up.
“Huh? You say something?” Gent replied.
“I said, it’s just like fishing.” He repeated. Now Gent heard it. That made him even more tense. Now the enemies were just inferior animals to him now. He was not god, why should he take a life? The group was almost at the zone.
“Get ready Gent.” The captain called out. Oh god, gent thought. I don’t know if I can do this. The signal was yellow “DO IT NOW!”, the enemies were in the signal zone, he pressed the fired off the nets. All of them were trapped and their shields disabled.
“Hit the missile launchers!” again another order. Gent’s hand was cold from sweat. “Do it now, or they’ll escape!” Gent was frightened. He closed his eyes and forced his hands to activate the missile launchers. Explosions and screams. Explosions and screams. They rang through his head. The entire time.
“Bloody good job Gent. Literally, bloody good job.” The Captain said through a private transmission. Gent opened his eyes, All of them, dead. Tangled metal corpses with floating blood and gore. Hell. That was what he saw, and he was the devil. Guardians? The Defense Corp were murderers and he knew it now. He was disillusioned but he had a purpose, and that was to protect his home. Even if it led him to hells mouth.

He had many nightmares after that, but he rose in rank quickly. His Melee combat and Missile counter combat was extraordinary. And he was also now a murderer in his own eyes.

“Battle”

It was a cold day. Jennifer flipped her hair with the back of her hands. “You two, I need you guys to accompany me. I’ve got some info that Fisher is going to be on the field today and I might need some…’ Jennifer paused. “…help with him.” She opened her hatch for her demonic looking Ghost.

“What are you waiting for? Hurry up you lazy bastards.” She remembered again what Fisher had done to her. She resented him.

"Jennifer! He's almost done his shift. Only four more days. I'm so excited." Holly squealed. Jennifer smiled.
"I know. 4 more days and he'll be done with the military and we can finally live together." Jennifer's face turned bright red. She put on her Wedding gown to see how it looked. She was only 17, but what did that matter? She was in love and they both knew each other since childhood. Jennifer began to sing a slow but beautiful song, too bad her voice was just a little off pitch. The Lyrics were like they were written by an angel. Such a curse for her. She despised her voice. But he loved it, he would always want her to sing.
"Jason should be back tomorrow after his routine patrol." Jennifer reminded herself. The wedding day was the day everything would change for their lives together. She imagined their family. She wanted as many kids as possible. But she had to wait until they married as to both of their parents wishes.

Many days passed and Jason didn't arrive until the Earth forces brought down his coffin with a recording from his ghost how he died. It was their dogtags. They would know who killed or defeated each other from recordings. Jennifer watched in horror as she saw the infamous Fisher kill Jason.
"Wh- Why? Why Jason? Why would they kill a patrol? WHAT DID HE DO TO BE KILLED LIKE THIS!?" Jennifer cried as she watched the recordings over and over. "Unforgivable. Unforgivable. Unforgivable." She repeated to herself and went into her room. Her family opened the door into her room watching her take Jason's spare knife and stab herself in the stomach in a painful attempt of suicide. She was saved and quickly signed up as an Earth Federation Military's High Risk Pilot.

Few months later. Military Political Meeting on Jennifer's scores.

"We've never seen such mercilessness in a pilot."
"But, we've never seen such aptitude for a pilot either!"
"It is true. Her first simulation she started at maximum and scored the highest. Even above Elite veterans. She's the Elite of elites!"
"That is what I am afraid of. If she tur-"
"Turns on us? Impossible. I've read her history she want's to kill Fisher. And this may be the best chance we have to Kill one of the greatest enemies of the EF."
"I see... Perfect! There could be no better way to control her if we give false information about Fisher if she doesn't know."
"Then we are in agreement?"
"Yes."

Standing hunched over from the combined weight of the large metal collar around his neck as well as the thick metal shackles that were bound to his arms, wrists, and ankles, Travis only peered up through mass of thick black, and grey hair that fell around his shoulders much like the mane of a lion.

His ice blue eyes seemingly pierced the hull of Fisher's Mech, and focused on the pilot as if he could see through the metal separating him from the rest of the group. A rhythmic clicking could be heard as Travis' jaw clenched, and unclenched in rapid successions. Being on of the darker secrets of the organization, Travis wasn't exactly a known figure in the group, but there had been rumors.

At first glance he certainly looked like he had a few screws loose, but when you flew a massive metal mechanized soldier through space in battle... you had to be a little crazy right? The question was just how much crazy was too crazy...

Escorted to the cockpit of the Templar, Travis was settled in at rifle point, and then hooked to the various ports of the consoles through fiber optic cables that plugged into the small metal ports in his arm, legs, chest, and neck. As he was connected to the machine, each cable seemed to send him into a deeper meditative like state. His eyes slowly closed, and then the hatch was shut with a grinding like noise as the locks engaged, and sealed him into the massive metal machine.

Krath stepped between the protuberances on Rmulus's chest and sat in a small chair which quickly retracted into the body of the mech. Romulus stirred to life, standing up to about 4/5 the height of Jennifer's, and repeatedly clenching and unclenching its claws. When Krath spoke his voice went through a filter before coming out of the loudspeaker where his mech's mouth should have been, so it was a bit deeper and more mechanical than normal. "So, we finally get to meet the mysterious Mr. Fisher." He took a few steps towards the hangar door, then thought better of it. "When do we launch?"

Neil hopped into the chest of his father's Valkyrie, lockon. the latch closing behind him as he saddled in brought lockon online. soon the holographic monitors and controls glittered up with life. before getting the Valkyrie moving, he scanned around the cramped cockpit and wanted to familiarize before screwing up. to0 his right were four pictures of past, and present sticking to the wall. one with his parents and younger sister back in his childhood, his sister was younger by two years. another was his father with the old lockon, before the upgrades, the differences were minor, the coloring of the hull was much more lighter, and the shield remotes were nowhere to be seen.

A third picture was that of Neil and his father hours before he was killed, it was the more painful photo to look at, a tear would seep down his cheek. the final one is a recent one of his sister with her husband and son. "[I]Some day you'll finally be at rest dad.....some day...I'll make her pay..." he thought to himself.
