Joel VS The Vanguard

The echoing sound of dripping water and the occasional bat screech fill the cavernous deeps. With close to nothing that provided a decent source of light, most non-nocturnal creatures were condemned to reaching about carefully to find their footing in the obstacle course set up by the multitude of stalagmites and stalagtites. With a variety of both wide caverns and narrow passages, the Underground proved as treacherous as ever, especially with the omnious sound of running water behind many of the cavern walls.

Very dimly, one could catch the vague sound of jet engines, roaring outside the caverns, hearable through the ceiling of the cavern, even though there no place for the light to come through.

The sound of jet engines was drowned out as a stalagmite burst into a hundred shards. A booted foot stomped onto the ground, smashing its remaining base further into pieces. A guttural roar filled the cavern, one of anger and hate, echoing upwards to where the vehicle above hovered. As the roar died down it was replaced by a heavy breathing, even the simple act infused with the man's anger. For now he waited, knowing his prey was above and would soon meet him. Then all hell would be unleashed.

Slowly, the jet engines' noise seemed to increase, growing louder at an increasing pace, the sound becoming the loudest at a point a bit further inside the cavern, just in the line of sight of the rage-fille combatant. The noise of roaring engines became so loud that the whole cavern itself began to rumble (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDsWPo4ONpo), as suddenly, the sound of crumling and crashing stone emerged, the ceiling of the cavern before the man collapsing as dust and rubble flew everywhere. The entire cavern shook and trembled, almost feeling as if it was going to collapse. The collapsed ceiling of the cavern was rapidly filled with more rumble that came tumbling down, too large to fall through the hole, once more sealing away all light. As the dust settled, the swordsman would be able to see his opponent at last, the light coming from the exhausts of the marine large jumppack somewhat illuminating the area. But most notable were the two glowing red eyes.
In his left hand, he carried a pistol about the size of a heavy caliber rifle, and in his right hand, a massive chainsword, its engines idly whirring. "By His will, I have come. Now... Where is my enemy?"

"HERE!" roared Joel in greeting. On heavy footsteps he came running, leaping out of the darkness with both swords raised. His foe had painted himself like a target with his entrance alone, not to mention the light from his jetpack. He aimed to bring down his greatsword upon his foes skull while the shortsword was poised ready to stab at his foe's armpit if he lifted the sword to block his own. Whether or not his attack was successful he would then attempt to kick off his foe's chestplate and disappear back into the darkness.

The marine's red glowing eyes turned towards the direction of the heavy steps, before he rapidly rose up his chainsword, having it roar out as its grinding teeth whirred into motion, seeking to try and not only parry the attack, but also try to send the man's attack so offcourse he'd leave himself exposed, hoping the blade would hook into the chainsword's teeth. If the shortsword came forward despite his parry, it would dig itself into one of the few softer areas in between the black, ceramite armor. However, the man seemed hardly troubled by the stab, as his other hand came up by the time his foe would be trying to widen the distance again, the kick against his plate armor almost made it feel like his foe was a living wall. With his pistol hand raised, the black armor clad individual let fly of a number of explosive bolt shells, hoping to have them dig into his target and explode within him while he tried to regain his footing after creating more distance again.

As the chainsword ground against Joel's blade it's hope of catching the rugged edge were in vain. The adamantium teeth simply broke off the jagged outcroppings they touched, while Michael's enchantment likely damaged of few back. The shortsword stabbed into his foes side and quickly withdrew and Joel roared as he drew first blood.

The Vanguard's solidity only aided Joel's kick away, his strength launching him further than the marine had likely expected thus throwing the shots off. One bullet passed through the warrior's cape creating a hole, but none hit the man himself. As he landed he immediately moved to cover again behind another stalagmite. However his slow speed meant he was still in the open when the bolt round which had missed exploded in the ground. Shrapnel peppered his form, opening dozens of tiny cuts, before he was hidden once more.

The Vanguard didn't loose track of the lumbering being's movements, but he lowered his pistol, only to have the jumppack's engines begin to roar up, aswell as his chainsaw began to roar once more. "Die, scum!" He called out as his jumppack launched himself forward on a crashcourse with the stalagmite, putting enough force behind his charge to crush the stalagmite in his tracks, bringing his roaring chainsword swiping horizontally through the air to try and swipe down the giant that was hiding behind the stalagmite.

As the marine came crashing through the stalagmite his chainsword collided with the warrior's greatsword once again. The pair met in a screaming mass of sparks as Joel was pushed back by the marine's force, his boots leaving trails in the ground. "Angel pretender!" Joel screamed as he saw his foe's flying ability. Using his strength Joe attempted to pull his foe's greatsword to the side, using the fact the chains sword was catching on his own sword to prevent it slipping away. If he was successful in this his other hand would shoot up into the air, holding his shortsword pommel down, and slam down towards the marine's helmet. If he was not able to drag his foe's chainsword out of the way he would instead stab at his foe's hand with the shortsword.

- - - Hazard Roll 5: Crumbling Stalagtite - - -

Managing to just barely deflect the chainsword, the pommel strike seemed to not even phase the marine, his eyes locked onto his target as he sought to dig his gun into the man's guts now that he was so close, and let fly of a bolt at point blank range. However, as his chainsword was deflected to the side and cleaved a rockey pillar nearby, it shook the cavern to the point where a large stalagtite broke off came down drilling down towards the two, on a crash course right in between them.

Joel continued the downwards momentum of his pommel strike, dragging it down the marine's helmet. As it passed his neck he pulled it inwards and further down, slamming it into the top of the marine's pistol. The blow was enough to deflect the pistol to the side, as the sword came down at an angle, and send the bullet just wide. It still grazed Joel's side, not enough to explode, but enough to burn a mark.

As the stalactite fell Joel leapt backwards and out of its range. As it passed him he lashed out with his foot, sending a powerful kick into the rock's side. If he was lucky it would be enough to tip the rock towards his opponent and possibly crush them.
