Jacob the Shade VS Felicia

Surrounded by ice and cold on all sides, the Arctic was as cold as always. The snow filling the area seeming to be deep enough to completely take away the view of one's feet. The howling wind that passed through the glaciers was not helping either, whipping up some of the snow and bringing a freezing cold knife to slice through any who stood there, easily chilling the most hardened soldier to the bone. The sun was shining brightly, but seemed to give no warm whatsoever, only reflecting its light on the pure white blanket that was laid for today's battle.

The crunching of snow broke the silence created by the wind, as a slim figure, covered by a green robe marched onwards. The person was a young female, whose entire body was covered by the robe, aswell as a hood that hid her head from most eyes, aswell as shielded her ever so slightly against the chilling winds. The only noticable features were her white-blond hair of which strands fell out from the front of her hood, coming down to halfway along her chest, aswell as her light blue eyes, which darted across the area rapidly. She felt she was not alone. It was now only a matter of finding her opponent.

An entrance... The Shade's theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzbvcsNPEEE&list=PL4619CDF2FD0D8394)

A midnight black figure crested a hill that stood on the edge of the battlefield, slowly making his way towards his frigid destination. Cloaked in black as always minus his silver gauntlet covering his left forearm, the frosty wind made his motionless cowl even more noticeable than normal; the ebon fabric was as still as if the demon was standing on the Moon.

Trudging through the calf-deep snow, the Shade mused to himself whom his opponent might be. All that was told to him was that they were a swordsman, the first group the Shade would be targeting in his rise to the top. He planned on adding their weapons to his ever-growing collection. It was something he enjoyed doing, though he rarely got the pleasure of making the choice beforehand. Usually he just so happened to stumble upon a weapon that he'd like to collect and did so, usually much to the dismay of the now-victimized (previous) owner of said weapon.

Ignoring the cold through a simple trick of the mind, Jacob pushed onwards into the storm. He ignored it as though it did not touch him, but in truth it did; he would likely lose a lot of internal body heat this fight. With any luck he could end it quickly and work up a bit of body heat in the process.

His shadows told him of an approaching life-force, nearly 100 yards off. At that distance, there was no way to tell anything else, but Jacob had little doubt that this would be his opponent. Settling his shoulders, the Shade readied himself for battle.

Slowly thrudging through the snow, Felicia's eyes darted around carefully as her senses extended along with the currents of the wind, finally pulling to a firm halt as she could vaguely see the silhouette of a dark person before her, making a clearer image in her head through use of the currents of wind. "You are my opponent? You reek of the shadows... You reek of death... It will be my pleasure to cleanse you from this world..." Her cloak and hood waved about in the wind, as her blue eyes locked upon the dark figure, seemingly standing completely still. "Come at me, cretin... A being of the shadows should have no trouble frightening a girl like me... And kill her..."

Jacob laughed lightly at her words, a small smirk visible from the snow glare that lit up the lower half of his face, even though his hood was pulled up and forward. Flexing his fingers against the cold, Jacob allowed his grin to stay as he spoke.

"You wouldn't know the half of it, girl. And don't play coy with me, I've fought plenty women of a skill or better than I. I've lived long enough to know not to judge appearances," he replied, his voice nearly as cold as the wind that blew, though very much human otherwise. He let his grin widen and red points of light where his eyes would be flashed from the darkness of his hood.

"Besides, you don't smell frightened to me..." he hissed, playing off the girls words with a demon's equivalent of playfulness. Of course, he couldn't smell her anymore than he could touch her, but his shadows were now close enough that he would be able to sense any sort of abundant fear. If it was well hidden, she might get away with it, though.

Drawing his katana, Jacob slowly settled into a ready position 40 or so yards away from the woman, sword held a little above horizontal to the ground and with both hands, left hand on bottom. His smirk was still obvious, showing no teeth, though the red eyes had faded away from his cowled facade. Embers and steam danced off of his gauntlet's surface as he prepared a bit of magic that would help out in this sort of fight. Waiting, the Shade allowed his opponent the honor of first strike.

Her eyes locked upon the silhouette, she betrayed no fear at all. Her determinance to win seemingly supressing any fear. If there was something she feared, it would be the cold around her.

Her body shifting a bit underneath her robe, she gazed at the man as he spoke, before finally rushing forward (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxt4qfw3lAw). The very air around her seemed to converge, as it began whipping up snow, making eyesight in this storm became even more difficult. Through the whipped up snow, the robed silhouette came rushing towards the shade. But at the last second, it appeared the robe was empty, just being thrown and carried into the shade by the wind currents as the women suddenly emerged from the shade left side, sword drawn as she sought to race past his backside and slice her blade his back while doing so, her steps and movements almost silent, as if she was being carried upon the wind.

Jacob's smirk deepened, now showing teeth at the corner of his grin, as the scene played out before him. The woman was a clever fighter, and his source of information had been correct; she wielded the power of the wind. His shadows told him much: her ability with the wind was just a vague sense of something happening supernatural with the woman, but he could use his eyes for the rest. Not only did they tell him her ability, but they also told her she was no longer in that robed silhouette.

Jacob's façade became calm as he shifted his stance a little wider, awaiting the robe. In a flash of steel, Jacob split the cloth in twine, his blade coming from Jacob's left and moving up diagonally. Carrying through, Jacob pivoted on his feet and was suddenly about-faced, his sword now on a collision course with the woman's own. The Shade aimed to deadlock the woman with their two blades, but that was only a hope, not a certainty. A secondary tactic would be to at least upset her balance enough that she stumbled or backtracked, keeping her close enough for his next trick to come in handy. Te Kage screamed in his head even as he momentarily released his left hand's grip on his katana, trusting his own strength to hold the deadlock if it existed.

With a back-handed-slap gesture, Jacob unleashed his charged Flame Burst spell, engulfing the nearby 20 yard area in magical fire. His own body and such were unaffected, but he hoped that this tactic had allowed him to successfully light the girl up. If not, he had at least cleared the nearby area of snow for allow of a few moments, revealing with utter certainty the presence of his multiple shadows.

The deadlock didn't turn out such as the shade had hoped however, as the girl's blade grinded along it, letting her body give way against the blade as she spun out of the deadlock easily by pulling her blade away from his, using the air around her to propel herself as she spun further around the shade and blasted herself away with a wind burst, managing to just barely stay out of range of the fire. Her blade then continued to emit a vibrant blue glow as she began an entire blade dance in the air, sending razor sharp torrents of air racing towards the shade, seeking to slice him up from a distance now.

Jacob grimaced as his attack did little to nothing, readying himself quickly for the woman's retaliation as his shadows tracked her movements. Turning to face her, the Shade was surprised to see that she was attacking from a distance, stabbing and slashing at nothing. Briefly, he was reminded of the way a friend had fought back when they had last dueled nearly twenty years ago and that was about all that warned him.

As it were, the first of the currents ripped open the side of his cowl, which made the demon snarl in anger. He didn't like it when the cloak was damaged. However, now he was fully aware of the woman's intentions. It took a moment to catch up to her motions, but once he did, Jacob easily anticipated where the next strike would be simply by following her sword strikes. The few moments of figuring that out cost him three more cuts, of course: one across his right arm, another on his right leg, and the last striking along his left shoulder. After those, Jacob settled into a smooth dance with the woman, moving aside, under, or around the attacks as they came at him, slowly moving his way towards her.

His face passive from concentration, the shadow demon waited for his chance to strike as he closed the distance between them. As soon as he could, Jacob rushed forward under a horizontal current and attempted a simple one-handed slash, bringing the blade up from below and cutting nearly-vertically up her form.
