Everyone thought they'd last together, Marcus Riddermann and Ash Thompson. They were together all through out high school, and got the most votes for the cutest couple in the school. They had a bunch of friends, and were quite happy together. On the last day of Senior year for the both of them, the incident happened. Ash and Marcus had a huge argument, and ended up breaking it off. Marcus felt horrible, and Ash felt humiliated. After that day, Ash moved to a small town in Illinois, while Marcus stayed in San Diego, California.
Every day for a year, Marcus sends Ash an e-mail in hopes of a response at least once. And everyday for a year Ash deletes the e-mails without reading them. She refused to let Marcus hurt her again, and she refused to even talk to him. Ash felt empty inside, like a huge gaping hole had been put in her heart, and now the emotions that once were, weren't. She felt nothing toward Marcus in that year except for hatred. It grew every time he sent her an e-mail, but so did the anxiety. She was anxious to get rid of the feelings she still had for Marcus, and when she met Nick Pierce, she finally managed to shed those ugly feelings.
It is now three years after Marcus stopped the e-mails, and Ash has not seen, nor talked to Marcus in four years. She had heard that after the e-mails stopped, Marcus had decided to do something with his life, and move on. He moved to Canada, and became a well known writer. His works ranged from Poetry, to short stories, to novels. His name was worldwide. He was an international celebrity of sorts. Almost everyday there's an article in the paper about something new that he's done, or a new book that has just gotten published. It infuriates Ash to no end to see that Marcus won't leave her alone, even after stopping the emails.
So, she decides to take a vacation, and stay with one of her friends in San Diego. She takes her husband, Nick Pierce, with her to introduce him to her family. The one thing she is not expecting though, is for the one person she doesn't want to see to come waltzing back into her life. So when Marcus Riddermann shows up at her favorite restaurant at the same time as her, things start to get a little crazy.
Nick, Ash, and some friends were dining in the restaurant for a brunch meal when Marcus shows up with his editor and publisher. He lays eyes on Ash, and for a minute, their eyes connect. Shock registers on his face, then that tender look that Ash fell for so many times in high school. But Ash is furious. This is the one thing she didn't need. But what shocked her, was that the moment she laid eyes on him, all the old feelings and memories she had shared with Marcus came flooding back. Memories and feelings she could have sworn she had dumped in the Atlantic ocean long before. So when everything Ash knew is thrown upside down, and she's determined to settle things once and for all, what is bound to happen?
