Chapter One
Tick...tock...tick...tock...tick...
"Hey, Lizzy. Lets go." Said Arnold. Liz looked away from the black clock, which had a weird symbol engraved in the face of the clock. It was a golden tiger, as if signifying the owner of the lock was heir to this crest. The clock was owned by the library where Arnold had dragged Liz after school. Arnold was a 5 foot 9 inch tall guy, tough as a football player, but a mind as naive as a baby. Maybe that's why Liz was dating him. He was the one good thing in her life. She smiled as she nodded. Liz was 4 inches shorter than the black-haired, Blue-eyed Arnold. Liz picked up her bag and took his hand.
"Alright." She walked with Arnold, and passed the Librarian's desk. The Librarian waved to Arnold as they walked out of the Library. They go in the car and Arnold whipped his hair side to side, the rain waters splashing over the windows, windshield, Liz, and Dashboard. Liz giggled as she tried covering her face away from the water. "Well then." She said, still smiling. Arnold winked and started up the car. An old, 1973 Chevy Blazer. His Father's, which was passed down to him a few months before he had died. The car was starting to fall apart, even though Arnold kept it in the best condition he could. The seats had tears in them, and the duct tape was starting to come off. Coffee stains on the floors of the car, and who knows what else needed repair. Arnold pulled out of the Library parking lot and made way down the street towards the freeway. They stayed quiet for most of the car ride. Silence seemed to fill the gaps between going home and going to the Library. Arnold lived two streets down from Liz's house, so she was down at his house a lot. Liz spotted a small puppy running alongside the road and made Arnold stop. She ran towards the puppy, trying not to scare it. It gladly jumped into Liz's arms to be protected from the rain. A small Doberman. Liz saw it had no collar on it and felt a bit worried. She sat down and looked at Arnold. "What if it's a stray?" She looked to see if it was a boy or a girl.
Boy.
Arnold shrugged. "We aren't far from home. We can keep him for now, and if an owner turns up, we give him back. If not...well, we will see then." He smiled softly and Liz nodded, slowly drying the puppy and softly playing with it. The little puppy barked playfully and Liz laughed. They reached Arnold's house and went inside, shielding the puppy even more. The time now was 7:45 PM, which meant Arnold's mother was at work. Her work timings being 7 PM to 7 AM. Liz sat down on the couch after setting the puppy first, taking off her shoes and jacket. The puppy begged for attention and climbed into her lap. It barked at Arnold as he sat down, and made his way towards him. Arnold chuckled, but froze. Unsure what to do, as he wasn't all too good with animals. The tiny Doberman got in Arnold's lap and Arnold stared at it, then turned his head to Liz. Liz smiled and watched the puppy put it's paws on Arnold's stomach, as if standing up. It barked once more and Arnold laughed, Liz petted the Doberman and got up, making her way into the kitchen.
"Want anything?" She called to Arnold, opening the refrigerator and pulling out some string cheese. She loved string cheese. Or, more accurately, cheese in general. Arnold thought for a while, then shook his head. He said no, and Liz shrugged. She looked at him and the puppy from the window-like structure in the wall between the kitchen and living room. She chuckled as Arnold devised a way to pick the dog up. Liz walked back and picked it up as Arnold sighed in relief. They chuckled and put the dog down, letting it explore the house as they did other things.
After a few hours it was 11 PM. Liz smiled as she watched Arnold taking a nap in her lap. She had to get home, Her parents would get worried if she came home after midnight. Luckily, Arnold rolled closer to her, his nose being buried in her stomach, causing him to wake up from his light sleep. She rubbed his head carefully. "I have to go." She pouted with a smile. Arnold pouted too.
"I was so comfortable." They laughed and Arnold sat up. He kissed her cheek softly, and Liz smiled. They had never had a kiss. Liz told Arnold he would have to wait, And Arnold agreed to waiting. Liz stood up and put on her jacket. Arnold shuffled his feet and took her hand. "Want a ride?" He smiled. Liz shook her head.
"You're tired, it's alright." She smiled and kissed his left check as Arnold opened the door. The Doberman was fast asleep in Arnold's bed. Arnold had gone to the pet store around 10 and got some dog food. Liz smiled and left, Arnold waved as he closed the door. He went over to the puppy, and fell asleep beside it. Liz walked the snow covered street to the sidewalk, which was alongside the main road. In around 20 minutes, she would be home.
Snow fell slowly around her, on her, and just about everywhere it could get. Liz yawned and pulled out her phone, putting on her headphones and turning to the song "Tears Don't Fall" by Bullet For My Valentine. She ever so slightly sang with it. Word for word, memorized.
"...Your tears don't fall, They crash around me.
Her conscious calls, the guilty to come home..."
The chorus was her favorite part. Liz didn't hear the footsteps trailing behind her. Halfway home, The footsteps got closer. Liz slipped on a sheet of ice, and fell. The man behind her caught her, as her earbuds fell out of her ears. "Are you okay, Miss?" The man smiled softly. The smile was oddly familiar, but she had never met the man before in her life.
"Um..." Liz was speechless. She was in the arms of some unknown man, yet she felt oddly comfortable. She felt a wave of cold hit her, and stood. Rubbing her arms. "Sorry...." She laughed weirdly. The guy said it was alright, and they started talking as they walked to her house. The guy's name was Felix. He had moved to their small town recently from someplace in Britain. He was in the same high school as Liz. What a coincidence. Liz came upon her house and chuckled. "Well...I guess I'll see you later then." Felix nodded, and left. Liz walked into her house and noticed her parents were already asleep. She could feel dark, and evil eyes watching her though the window, but shrugged it off.She walked up to her room and plopped down in bed, out cold.
