Chapter One

Tick...tock...tick...tock...tick...

"Hey, Lizzy. Lets go." Said Arnold. Liz looked away from the black clock, which had a weird symbol engraved in the face of the clock. It was a golden tiger, as if signifying the owner of the lock was heir to this crest. The clock was owned by the library where Arnold had dragged Liz after school. Arnold was a 5 foot 9 inch tall guy, tough as a football player, but a mind as naive as a baby. Maybe that's why Liz was dating him. He was the one good thing in her life. She smiled as she nodded. Liz was 4 inches shorter than the black-haired, Blue-eyed Arnold. Liz picked up her bag and took his hand.

"Alright." She walked with Arnold, and passed the Librarian's desk. The Librarian waved to Arnold as they walked out of the Library. They go in the car and Arnold whipped his hair side to side, the rain waters splashing over the windows, windshield, Liz, and Dashboard. Liz giggled as she tried covering her face away from the water. "Well then." She said, still smiling. Arnold winked and started up the car. An old, 1973 Chevy Blazer. His Father's, which was passed down to him a few months before he had died. The car was starting to fall apart, even though Arnold kept it in the best condition he could. The seats had tears in them, and the duct tape was starting to come off. Coffee stains on the floors of the car, and who knows what else needed repair. Arnold pulled out of the Library parking lot and made way down the street towards the freeway. They stayed quiet for most of the car ride. Silence seemed to fill the gaps between going home and going to the Library. Arnold lived two streets down from Liz's house, so she was down at his house a lot. Liz spotted a small puppy running alongside the road and made Arnold stop. She ran towards the puppy, trying not to scare it. It gladly jumped into Liz's arms to be protected from the rain. A small Doberman. Liz saw it had no collar on it and felt a bit worried. She sat down and looked at Arnold. "What if it's a stray?" She looked to see if it was a boy or a girl.

Boy.

Arnold shrugged. "We aren't far from home. We can keep him for now, and if an owner turns up, we give him back. If not...well, we will see then." He smiled softly and Liz nodded, slowly drying the puppy and softly playing with it. The little puppy barked playfully and Liz laughed. They reached Arnold's house and went inside, shielding the puppy even more. The time now was 7:45 PM, which meant Arnold's mother was at work. Her work timings being 7 PM to 7 AM. Liz sat down on the couch after setting the puppy first, taking off her shoes and jacket. The puppy begged for attention and climbed into her lap. It barked at Arnold as he sat down, and made his way towards him. Arnold chuckled, but froze. Unsure what to do, as he wasn't all too good with animals. The tiny Doberman got in Arnold's lap and Arnold stared at it, then turned his head to Liz. Liz smiled and watched the puppy put it's paws on Arnold's stomach, as if standing up. It barked once more and Arnold laughed, Liz petted the Doberman and got up, making her way into the kitchen.

"Want anything?" She called to Arnold, opening the refrigerator and pulling out some string cheese. She loved string cheese. Or, more accurately, cheese in general. Arnold thought for a while, then shook his head. He said no, and Liz shrugged. She looked at him and the puppy from the window-like structure in the wall between the kitchen and living room. She chuckled as Arnold devised a way to pick the dog up. Liz walked back and picked it up as Arnold sighed in relief. They chuckled and put the dog down, letting it explore the house as they did other things.

After a few hours it was 11 PM. Liz smiled as she watched Arnold taking a nap in her lap. She had to get home, Her parents would get worried if she came home after midnight. Luckily, Arnold rolled closer to her, his nose being buried in her stomach, causing him to wake up from his light sleep. She rubbed his head carefully. "I have to go." She pouted with a smile. Arnold pouted too.

"I was so comfortable." They laughed and Arnold sat up. He kissed her cheek softly, and Liz smiled. They had never had a kiss. Liz told Arnold he would have to wait, And Arnold agreed to waiting. Liz stood up and put on her jacket. Arnold shuffled his feet and took her hand. "Want a ride?" He smiled. Liz shook her head.

"You're tired, it's alright." She smiled and kissed his left check as Arnold opened the door. The Doberman was fast asleep in Arnold's bed. Arnold had gone to the pet store around 10 and got some dog food. Liz smiled and left, Arnold waved as he closed the door. He went over to the puppy, and fell asleep beside it. Liz walked the snow covered street to the sidewalk, which was alongside the main road. In around 20 minutes, she would be home.

Snow fell slowly around her, on her, and just about everywhere it could get. Liz yawned and pulled out her phone, putting on her headphones and turning to the song "Tears Don't Fall" by Bullet For My Valentine. She ever so slightly sang with it. Word for word, memorized.

"...Your tears don't fall, They crash around me.
Her conscious calls, the guilty to come home..."

The chorus was her favorite part. Liz didn't hear the footsteps trailing behind her. Halfway home, The footsteps got closer. Liz slipped on a sheet of ice, and fell. The man behind her caught her, as her earbuds fell out of her ears. "Are you okay, Miss?" The man smiled softly. The smile was oddly familiar, but she had never met the man before in her life.

"Um..." Liz was speechless. She was in the arms of some unknown man, yet she felt oddly comfortable. She felt a wave of cold hit her, and stood. Rubbing her arms. "Sorry...." She laughed weirdly. The guy said it was alright, and they started talking as they walked to her house. The guy's name was Felix. He had moved to their small town recently from someplace in Britain. He was in the same high school as Liz. What a coincidence. Liz came upon her house and chuckled. "Well...I guess I'll see you later then." Felix nodded, and left. Liz walked into her house and noticed her parents were already asleep. She could feel dark, and evil eyes watching her though the window, but shrugged it off.She walked up to her room and plopped down in bed, out cold.

Chapter 2

Liz had a dream that night. More of a not-so-scary nightmare than a dream, but still, it happened as she was asleep.

The walls of the room she was in were ripped up, and bare. The floor had blood spatter in many different directions. There was no door. Liz looked up at the ceiling and saw what looked like a vent. She had to get up there somehow. Liz looked around the room, and saw a blood-stained cabinet. She walked over and started to push it under the vent. After what seemed like eternity, She climbed up the cabinet and went into the vent. She slid along the metal and looked for a way out. She found another opening after a few minutes and hopped down. Liz was in a hallway. The walls here were much cleaner than the room, but they were cracked and made of stone. She walked along the right side of the wall, passing wall torches and other room doors. She tried to open a few of them, but to no avail did they open. She came across another hallway and looked around after deciding to take it. Soon after, she heard wind. Liz began to run toward the breeze, and saw a light. a bright white light. She burst out of the hallway and squinted as her eyes adjust to see a barren wasteland. Filled with Lava pits and mountains. She looked at the dark sky and couldn't see the moon. Then she noticed that the stars were missing too. It wasn't a sky she was looking at. It was the ceiling of a cavern. It had to be at least 35 stories tall. Liz heard a voice in her head.

"Not Yet..."

And then Liz woke up. She looked around her room, making sure she was in her room and still not in the dream. She sighed and got up, stretching and groaning. Liz walked to the mirror and noticed something on the dresser. She picked it up and opened the box. Inside was a weird ring. It was red and there was a black gem augmented at the top. There were weird symbols engraved in the sides of the ring. She chuckled and opened her door. "Mom...Was someone in my room as I was asleep?" Liz's Mother, who was currently in the room next door going through some files, replied.

"No, dear...is something wrong?" As Liz's mother pulled out another file and waited for Liz to reply, Liz found a letter telling her that the ring is an heirloom of her family's. She didn't know of any heirlooms, from her father or mother's side. She put the ring on her finger. It fit perfectly. Liz was a bit weirded out by it, but chuckled and took the ring off. She set it on the dresser and went to take a shower.

Before leaving the house and walking to Arnold's car, she put the ring back on and sat down, throwing her backpack in the back. She smiled at Arnold, and he pecked her cheek. "Let's go?" He said, and she nodded. They went to school. The ride was quiet, and Arnold had said that His mother let them keep the dog for now, and was watching it back at his house. Liz smiled and laughed. After they got to school, they had a bit of free time before parting to go to classes.

Her first class being Biology, and her lab partner not being present, she got to sit with the new kid. Felix. She blinked twice as He sat down and laughed. "You again." He said, and Liz smiled.

"What? Am I not good enough to be your lab partner?" They chuckled and the teacher began to teach his lesson for the day. After a dissection of a baby shark, which took more or less all of the 2 hours they had they class, they parted ways and Liz went on with her day. After School, Arnold and Liz walked to their car and went to his house. They checked up on the dog and Arnold's Mom had the day off, so they left the dog with her and went out to a movie.

After the Movie, as they were leaving Liz saw Felix with an older woman. Liz chuckled and Arnold looked up, not knowing Felix. Felix noticed them and laughed, walking over with the woman. "Hey, Liz." He said. Arnold said high to Felix, and the woman. As did Liz. "This is my Mother." Felix smiled. His Mother said high and noticed they were going. After a small chat, they parted ways and Liz and Arnold left. While driving on the highway, they were talking about stuff. There was a deer that ran across the Highway, and Arnold, who hadn't payed much attention till Liz screamed, swerved to dodge it. One of the tires slid off the road and as Arnold tried to bring it back on the road, they almost hit the metal guard. Liz laughed as the car got under control, and looking at Arnold so freaked out. He was telling her it wasn't funny, and that they could have been in an accident, or worse.

"Alright, alright...sorry." She laughed some more and teased him about it. Eventually, he laughed too and they stopped at a restaurant. As they ate, Liz could feel her finger getting hot. As if it was on fire. She looked at the ring and saw the black gem glowing with a dark red. She took the ring off and it seemed to cool down.

"You always have that?" Arnold asked.

"I found i this morning...family heirloom or something..." She mumbled.

"Is it supposed to do that?"

"I don't think so..." Liz felt the hot ring get ice cold and picked it up. "That was weird..." Before she could finish the sentence, the walls around her exploded inward.
