He woke up suddenly, eyes looking around for a reason as his head turned left and right, his disorientation soon faded and he knew exactly where he was, in the drop ship taking him into his next fight. He yawned heavily, not bothering to cover his mouth as he wore a full face plated helmet, and just then he felt a rough nudge on his left arm. "Mornin' sleepy head, here I thought you'd be sleeping through the entire fight, get your shit together, we're landing in ten minutes." He nodded then, slapping his buddy on the arm a couple of times to show he was awake and going to get it done. I don't even see why I even bother, it's been nearly five years, five years of non-stop way, jumping from battle to battle.. We've already lost. He thought to himself, there was no way he was going to say it out loud, despite knowing everyone thought the same, he wasn't going to be the weak link, not now, not ever.

Another heavy shake of the drop ship indicated the soldiers in the cabin that they had gotten through the atmosphere of Earth, it was soon time, time to take back home. "Alright you fucks! Get your shit ready 'cuz we're goin' to kick some squid ass! Rook! You know you're job, lead the vanguard and break their line, the meat grinder hasn't been able to grind you up yet son!" All Rook did was nod, letting his hand do a half assed salute before he started checking his gear, memories of wounds and scars began itching in his mind and all over his body, and he remembered all the times he had led the charge.. all those friends he had lost. I'm sorry.. He stood then, his head jerking left and right to crack and pop his neck as he moved for the rear of the ship, the men he walked past gave respectful nods and good luck pats on his arms and back, and just as he neared the rear the loading ramp opened, and down there, through the layer of clouds was Earth, their last battlefield.

There was complete silence now, just for a few moments until the green light flashed and that obnoxious horn went off, he didn't want to stay a second longer, and let himself drop out of the ship. He fell head first, eyes looking down at the clouds, it was pretty, white, like a fluffy blanket, although the moment he broke through that all changed, he felt wet, it was raining hard, and it was gloomy beneath the clouds. The ground was torn apart, ripped and worn due to the countless battles and bombardments Earth had experienced over the five years. His helmet would start up it's HUD system, immediately beginning to scan the ground for possible enemies.. and they were everywhere, lighting up with little orange markers that his helmet made for him to know where they were, it was time.

The enemies didn't see the vanguard come, but it wasn't just him, there were more like Rook, elite soldiers 'fortunate' enough to drop first and get into the fight as the tip. Rook looked to the right for a moment, seeing little green markers come up, they were the other soldiers dropping, and when he turned to the left he saw the same.. there must have been at least a hundred of soldiers, but even then they'd be nothing if the main force didn't follow close behind. "DEPLOY!" He shouted, and instantly his chute would flare up and catch the cold air, jerking his legs down as his hands got a hold of his weapon. Just when he was about to hit the ground his chute pulled up, stalling for a moment only for him to slap a lock on his chest, which detached the chute and let him fall the remaining five meters.

The landing was one right on top of an enemy, his knee crashed down into the things shoulder, undoubtedly dislocating it. His left hand kept a grip on his rifle while his right hand pulled out a long kukri, which was stabbed right down into the things neck, severing it's spinal cord in a second. He was kneeling on the ground now, jerking his dagger out of his slain enemy, and just as he sheathed his weapon the sound of explosions and gunfire was heard all around him.

A bright spotlight came to land on him, and he looked right at it, seeing the guard tower stand there, with it's snipers getting ready to fire. His mind went blank, and his killer took over, his feet kicked off the ground and he began his charge while drop ships descended from the clouds, the battle to retake earth had begun.
