In the year 9001 A.D., war was begun. It seemed that we would not survive make our time. The war between the Generic Union and the hellish Defilers had drained our resources to the point where even getting a kitten to make a sandwich with was becoming hard out in the Far Zones, and even harder in the Fart Zones. Exactly 314 days after First Contact with the Defilers, the Union flagship went down, wiping several star systems off the map as it exploded - into very pretty colors, I should add. And, 1337 days after that, the Psionics Wing, our strongest dudes, seceded from the Union and fled, lead by their leader, Sir Robin. Simultaneously, the High Admiral of our postal service accidentally discovered that the reason we were being pwn't so badly was because the Union's leader was, in fact, dead, and had been replaced by a lot of very not-good-at-strategy dudes. Realizing that the Union was gonna get borked soon, he and his postal workers also seceded and fled. Now, over half of the Union's warships, battleships, combatships, duelships, and fightships were gone, and it quickly fell as the Defilers moved in with their 900133742314270713 demon-ships, of which we had asploded only 123456789, and killed all the Union people and feasted upon their brains. This is the state of the Universe now: 58.74858576699004324% is controlled by the Defilers, and the rest is divided between the Psionics Wing and the Mailmen. These three factions are locked in endless struggle for the win.

Imagine this. Instead of RPing just one character, you control an entire ship full of characters. And instead of just RPing an entire ship full of characters, you also control that ship on a "tactical grid", where you battle other ships and can actually track the positions of all the ships graphically. (That would be done through a technique akin to the one used in my sig, except instead of text, it's a bunch of space ships, and instead of one link to change the message, you have controls for your ship.) And it would be set in my absurdist Wonk_Sauce universe for my own amusement. And you can get small but useful bonuses based on how well you RP the characters in the ship.

(More literal explanation: There are two teams of at least three ships, each ship being controlled by a single player. On your team's turn, you can move your ship a certain distance, shoot its guns, and do other stuff depending on the ship. Once all ships on a team have moved, it's the other team's turn. There will also be smaller ships on both teams, controlled by me. Extra smaller ships will warp in and help out your team if you RP the characters in your ship well.)

Additional note: You are only responsible for moving your own ship. Attacks are carried out automatically, and NPC ships move by themselves. However, in your in-character messages, you may say things like "We need fighter cover over here!" and I'll take them into account when moving the NPC ships.

So, interested? If so, you'll need to file an application. Format:

FACTION: (The Mailmen and the Psionics Wing are the only playable factions in this RP... No Defiler players this time around.)
SHIP: (See spoiler below. Each ship may only be selected by one player.)
NAMES OF MAJOR CREW: (Name your ship's captain and bridge officers. If you don't know why this is important, re-read the above... If you still don't get it, I'll explain.)

Mailmen:
-Borker: Heavy assault cruiser. Fairly quick and has high damage, but weak defensively. (Taken: spirits breath)
-Dudeoclast: Thomas-class support vessel. Attack does splash and heals allies caught in the splash. (Taken: sir hatless)
-Deliverance: Fighterbringer-class carrier. Instead of attacking, summons Armed Mail Trucks (which are the Mailmen's basic fighters) (Taken: WordsofWisdom).

Psionics Wing:
-Walpicide: Has secondary turrets on her sides in addition to her main forward gun. All three guns can be fired in a turn. (Taken: Falcon Red)
-Mental Libations: Mind Shielder-class support vessel. Heals nearby allies. (Taken: Shifty)
-Prism: Mind Forever Voyaging-class summoner. Attacks by warping in lolboom torpedoes, which summon at the end of its turn, but don't move until the start of its next turn (but are very fast). (Taken: Vein)

quick question, I can't believe I didn't ask before especially with how groggy my head is today, and it's just for understanding, so say I was on the Mailman side do I control one ship or them all except one, and if I only control one ship does that mean I get another on my team?

Three ships (plus a few fighters controlled by me) per team, with each ship controlled by one player. That is to say, it might work out with you controlling the Dudeoclast, sir hatless controlling the Deliverance, and Vein controlling the Walpicide (and your enemies controlling the Psionics Wing ships).

Bio: Lol, i know. My homage to a great game. The helmsman was going to be Matt Horner, but I decided to stay with the Illiad and Odyssey theme.

Also, I just noticed that there are two Walpicides, one with the Mailmen and one with the Psionics wing.

You won't be, lul... I won't start unless it's at least three on each team and within one ship of being evenly matched teams. (I can make up for a one-ship imbalance by giving the weaker team extra fighters.)

EDIT: Double ninja'd. Yah, there are two Walpicides... I'll fix that. Vein, you're in.

EDIT2: Mailmen Walpicide renamed.

I've submitted this to Lance's Spotlight thing and he's started interviewing me so I think it'll be/has been chosen... That should help. (Though I don't want to submit this as RPotW, because it would have started by the time it gets featured.)

A total rewrite of the battle grid is under way. This may take a day or two, so I can't launch immediately, even if the other two player slots are filled.

(Trust me, you'll like the new version a lot better.)

Also, bump.

EDIT: Okay, new battle grid is almost done. It just needs the shooting system.

Lord Tully
09-13-2010, 10:46 PM
So bio, how is it coming along?

Biophysicist
09-13-2010, 11:12 PM
Battle grid will be done in about an hour, at most (assuming I don't have to go in the middle of coding)... But we need more people.

EDIT: Battle grid is done. There's one thing I may change, but it's very minor.

Honestly, I'm tempted to turn it into your four (all as Mailmen) against a Psionics Wing supership and fighter escort (controlled by me)... It doesn't seem like we'll get enough players before interest in this fails.

(What would you say to that? ;o )

Biophysicist

About to be PMed. I forgot to save them to my hard drive so I have to grab them from the ships table on my server. No big deal.

Also, I'll post the ship statistics, as well.

EDIT: Okay, all codes PMed. I'll post the statistics soon.

Biophysicist
09-22-2010, 11:55 PM
Ship stats:

Borker: 20 damage, and takes 10% extra damage from each attack. 90 degree firing arc.
Dudeoclast: 10 damage, and heals 10 HP to allies within two tiles of impact. 60 degree firing arc.
Deliverance: 5 damage per Armed Mail Truck. Firing arc not applicible.
Walpicide: 15 damage, plus 10 damage per secondary cannon hit. 90 degree firing arc (secondary cannons offset by 90 degrees)
Mental Libations: 15 damage, and heals 7 HP per turn to allies within two tiles of self. 60 degree firing arc.
Prism: 18 damage per lolboom torpedo, plus 5 damage to adjacent enemies. Firing arc not applicable.

Fighters on both teams die in one hit and deal five damage. Mailmen fighters look like this (http://failcomics.byethost8.com/wsimage.php?class=3), and Psionics Wing fighters look like this (http://failcomics.byethost8.com/wsimage.php?class=7). Lolboom torpedoes look like this (http://failcomics.byethost8.com/wsimage.php?class=8).

As stupid as this will sound, how are they not working? If they're just not showing up, the fix is easy enough... On a hunch, I've tried that fix. Let me know if that fixes anything (or breaks anything else).

EDIT: Vein, they wouldn't work for you yet, as it's the Mailmen's turn (though you /should/ be getting an error message). WordsofWisdom, you've already made your move this turn... ;o But you also should be getting an error message. Hm.

EDIT2: Oh, did you mean the links to the fighter images? (I assumed you meant the control ones.) I just noticed that... That's rather wtfy.

Lord Tully
09-25-2010, 09:16 PM
So I think this is starting off pretty well don't you?
Ohh and by "hey don't work" we mean the links don't take us where they should go, when I click them they take me to a completely random internet search.

Biophysicist

Yah, okay. Try now.

09-26-2010, 04:33 PM
I just clicked the @ I want to go to and the ship did nothing and the board said "You have passed your turn."

Biophysicist
09-26-2010, 06:47 PM
That is exceptionally weird. I'll unflag you as having moved and you can try again.

EDIT: From your heading, it looks like you tried to move off the grid... ;o Anyway, I gave you another turn. Try moving again. If it still gives you an error, post where you meant to move to and I'll move for you. (Though, when I logged in with the Prism's code, I could move it fine.)

\/£in
09-26-2010, 10:45 PM
Ok It let me move now. A few things made me curious though:

1. Is the center @ on the movement grid supposed to be red?

2. The first square I tried clicking, just right of the red @ gave me an error saying "Square is already occupied"...but no one is on that grid position.

3. Could it be that the position of the Prism is being registered on the left side of the grid but the sprite is showing on the right? That would explain why it thought that I was attempting to move off the grid.

Biophysicist
09-26-2010, 10:54 PM
1. Indeed. It's red to help avoid people clicking on the wrong @. (If you look at the page source, you'll see "?red" added to the image's source location.) Another reason that it's like that is that clicking on the center @ moves you up 0 and right 0 - that is, it doesn't move you at all.

2. Yah, it would do that. If you're on the far right side, that button would move you off the grid. The game will move you to the closest position to the one you picked if you try to move off the grid, but in that case, the closest position was the one where your ship already is. tl;dr dont try to move off the grid

3. No. In the SQL tables, the position is 450 by 250 (200 now that you've moved). That's exactly as it should be.

I think your problem is simply that you clicked the wrong button. Either that, or you misunderstood the way the controls work... In case it's the later, I'll re-explain. The top-left button moves you three left and three up; the button immediately below the center moves you down one, etc.

Now go post in Sonata!

\/£in
09-27-2010, 02:05 AM
lmao...But yea I get that now. See I was thinking the @ grid was corresponding with the battle grid, meaning I thought if I pressed just right of the center @ then I would move left towards the center of the battle grid, but now I understand that those are controls xD. Everything makes sense now. I clicked the red @ the first time and that's how come it said I gave up my turn I guess.

Sorry for being bleh, Thanks Bio.
