As the sun began setting over the dried structures of buildings and houses, covered in dust and holes, surrounded by debris from the destruction that had taken place over the past few days of chaotic conflict, a small group remained in their courtyard. They started as a group of twenty men and women, in uniforms the represented death and destruction, an oppressive display, but that was not what their uniforms represented.

The courtyard was surrounded by old buildings, four of them, connected by corridors that acted like walls, with a tree in the center that acted as a natural roof for the courtyard itself. Surrounding the tree sat the ones that were to be saved, the hungry, the starving, the wounded and the defeated. Huddled in the arms of whoever they could find the survivors looked up at the men that had offered to protect them.

The soldiers stood in a circle around the group they had rescued, turning their heads slowly to look amongst themselves, they didn't have to exchange words, they knew what had to be done in order to save the innocents they surrounded. A faint noise was heard in the distance, and with a small nod they six turned and entered the buildings surrounding the courtyard.

The uniforms of the soldiers represented peace, the enforces of truth and justice that would aid the helpless and fight for the unarmed, and tonight, they were going to represent one final meaning, the meaning of sacrifice. Surrounded the remaining six waited for the wave of evil and violence that would soon come crashing, in the fashion of fanatical soldiers, fiery death and bearers of terror, and yet there was not a single flinch of fear in them.

It was a violent array of chaos and fire that started it all, the ground shook as the guns of war drowned out any other noise that the city could reproduce, not even the cries of fear and terror from the refugees was heard over the explosions of mans horrid inventions. The streets flashed with lights as the sounds of battle continued, the six remaining fought valiantly, spending whatever resources they had left to maintain the safety of the courtyard, this was their yard now.

Despite their best efforts, the six fell, one by one they were slowly plucked away from our world, riddled with bullets and fire the six fell in a blaze of glory and sacrifice. By the time their rescue party arrived, they discovered that the ones they had previously believed to be the ones that needed rescue had died, and the only ones left for them to save, were the survivors surrounding the tree at the courtyard.

Days later in a land far away, a screen flickered to life, and the story of the six warriors was shared, the whole world wept, but it was not all a moment of despair. Thanks to the fallen six, a thousand more rose in their place, all with one goal in mind, to rid the world of such evil and death the six had to face in that courtyard.
