Reality Bites
A true-to-life zombie apocalypse rp.


We've all thought about it, in different degrees of seriousness, at least once. Personally, I've probably spent more time than is sensible devising different game plans - just in case.
The tale of the Zombie Apocalypse is a well-known and often told one, and who can honestly say they've never considered how they might fare were they to actually find themselves in the midst of an all-out apocalypse.

It'll never happen... probably. But it doesn't hurt to be prepared, right?

So what would happen? Not to the soldiers, the scientists, the surgeons. The poker-faced, bad-ass and beautiful ex-con who also just so happens to be a black belt in an obscure form of Martial Arts and not too shabby with a crossbow. This story will follow the bankers, single mums and that thirty-five year old next door who still lives with his parents, playing Call of Duty all day.

Our story begins on an average day in their average lives, right before the beginning of the end. Will they fortify themselves in a camp locally? Forage for supplies before setting off for a major city? Hack a radio to get in contact with the government?

Probably not - they're a little busy trying not to die.


The Plot

In case it wasn't clear above, this roleplay will follow the terrifying 'adventures' of a bunch of every day people as they try to survive the onslaught of the living dead. If you love to play a gun-slinging human weapon, this is not the roleplay for you!

One thing should be made clear, before we begin. Not everyone will survive this rp. There will be injuries, and deaths, and whether or not your character survives is entirely up to their choices IC.

If your character is killed, you will be allowed the opportunity to make another. As I feel it is essential to completing a roleplay from start to finish, there will be a structured sequence of events. However, as I also feel it is important for players to help drive an rp, there are several different ways this story could play out.


The Setting

Surfers Paradise.

A popular tourist destination on the East Coast of Australia, the growing city is a mixture of skyscrapers, resorts and shopping centres in it's heart, and suburban-bliss style permanent residences and corner stores as you travel toward it's sprawling outskirts. The coastal highway that runs through the city, as well as the appeal of it's picturesque beaches and active nightlife, give it a bustling, crowded atmosphere at most any time of day.

Age: Thirteen and three quarters.

Occupation: Student - 7th grade at the inaptly named 'Paradise Highschool.'
Appearance: Izzie's unassuming brown hair and eyes, teamed with her usually quiet, pensive expression should make it easy for her to go unnoticed in a crowd. She dresses in clothes typical of a child her age, or at least of one who has not fallen into the 'twelvie' trend; consisting mostly of simple, thin dresses and sandles or thongs; uh, flip-flops. Thongs for your feet. This RP is set in Australia so no one's allowed to make an underwear joke. XD
Personality: Her mind and body whirling with the chemical changes of puberty, Izzie can be somewhat emotionally volatile (hence the nickname; Sissy.) She has not matured quite enough to realise that the universe does not, in fact, revolve around her, and small issues can seem to her like unsolvable disasters. In her first year of highschool, and the subject of bullying, Izzie's biggest worry is that she doesn't have cool enough clothes or fashion sense to sit with the popular girls.

Items/Equipment: Her school bag. Contains one lead and several coloured pencils, two ballpoint pens, a notebook, some textbooks, a water bottle and a lunchbox containing a packet of chips, a muesli bar and a chicken salad sandwich.

Personality: Hammer is a gun-slingin', fist-throwing weapon of brutal, awesome destruction... at least virtually. Since she spends so little time outdoors, she's not really sure what her RL self might be good at.

She wears only light makeup, vegan and cruelty-free, of course, and usually a matter-of-fact expression; reminiscent of Hermione Granger about to tell you why you're wrong.

Personality: River is a sweet, carefree, loving young woman - embracing the beauty of the world around her and grateful for her opportunity to live her infinitesimal life on such a vital planet. As such, she believes it is her duty to take as little as she can, to eat and live sustainably, and to share this knowledge and way of life with everyone she meets. It's all for the good of mankind, in the end! It just frustrates her a little when they don't immediately realise how right she is. So if she has to spam their Facebook wall with forty-seven videos about animal cruelty and throw out their gluten-riddled lunch every day before they get a chance to eat it, she will. It's for their own good, in the end.

Not necessarily, guns are still available and owned in Australia though not as prevalent as in the states, but unless it's well justified nobody would be starting with one. Whether they would know how to use it once they got their hands on it would depend on the character. I like the idea of the added challenge of roleplaying the difficulties of learning to survive, rather than being well-equipped beforehand.

I have a question. I'm almost done with my character but I'm stuck on equipment. I was thinking of making the cosplay/gamer that's been paranoid for everything that goes bump in the night (vampires, zombies, werewolves, etc.) This would also mean that he has props such as swords, fake guns, and all the little things. I personally have a sword that has blunt edges but has a sharp point (of which I've personally felt). Is the equipment was they carry on them at all times or what they have available on them?

Appearance: Raymond is tall (about 6'2) and slightly heavy-set, with dark curly hair, a bit of scruff. He is African-American. When not working and in his uniform, he usually is wearing a simple collared shirt and jeans. He has a smiling, good-looking face and can light up a room just by smiling or laughing; "Life of the party" type.

Personality: A family-man, Raymond is affable, a good friend. He is an avid Dungeons and Dragons fan, and gets together with his friends on Friday nights to play. (It's where he gets his nickname "Dragon") He has two young daughters and a wife, protecting them was his first thought when he heard about the zombies. (The family members may be characters briefly, but I don't think they'll have CS's) He collects comic books, but also is very smart and went to an IV league school. (I'm thinking maybe Dartmouth)

Personality: Niko is, unlike most people's opinions on code junkies and gamers, very sociable. He tries to be the best person he can be being very polite and kind. If a situation arises between friends or coworkers he tends to see both sides of the story before saying anything or passing judgement. He has a passion for online gaming and cosplay and tries to attend every convention he can even though his financial isn't the best. Niko has a bad memory at times and can be unreliable. As such something he is told two days ago can be completely lost from his memory if it never comes up again. Personality:
Extremely volatile, and clinically a sociopath if she ever would bother to get evaluated, Collin isn't a fan of people unless they're willing to give her something to compensate for the time they're taking up from her schedule. Co-workers, teachers, acquaintances, drinking buddies- to her, all these people are merely unnecessary distractions that could easily be replaced with something or someone more interesting and efficient for the role. Despite her general distaste for people themselves, Kerry is great at talking to them -if solely for the purpose of manipulating them to get something she needs or wants- and can talk her way past anything, be it a bill or an argument in hardly any time at all. Putting on a personality masking her own (if she has a natural one to begin with) is as simple as changing from a wardrobe with her, and she doesn't hesitate to use whatever is practical for the circumstance.

The techie is a bit of a hedonist, seeing life as having no real purpose besides a temporary enjoyment before crumbling to ashes under the turf, so with what her charm and meager paycheck can bring in she seeks to enjoy the more expensive or, alternatively, exotic things in life. One of her life goals is to finally make it big in writing or animation so that she can quit her dead-end job and travel around the world on an acceptable allowance, or at least be able to leave the damned city she was born in for longer than a couple of weeks. Preferably, to never have the pleasure of coming back. All in all, she values fun, money in grand sums, and life travels over people or loyalty. The kind of person who would look at the death penalty (if Australia hadn't have abolished it in 1967) with disdain not because it kills someone, but because it takes so damned long to finally get it done and over with while wasting valuable taxes. When push comes to shove, if it saves her own ass, Collin won't hesitate to throw someone under the bus or frame them with blame.

Jenny has long, curly brown hair which was dyed blonde from her ears down. Her eyes are a warm hazel-brown. She usually wears a very generous but reasonable amount of makeup. She's tall and thin, with very little muscle to her arms or torso. She's a decent runner, however, and has pretty good strength in her legs. But if it came to surviving, her dainty physique wouldn't be of much help.

Personality: Jenny isn't all that different from the average girl on the street. She loves puppies, kittens, chocolate, and watching cheesy 'romcoms' on the weekends. Her appearance is very important to her, and she spends a lot of time making sure she looks right in the mornings, and counting her calories at every meal. All her life she's been a little stuck up about organic, non-processed, largely vegetarian food... And she'd rather starve than eat anything else. Family and friends have always teased her that she'd never live if she was stranded on a deserted island... But she always insisted that she'd be fine as long as she could find coconuts and fish.

At the center, she's a sweet and compassionate girl. She doesn't like violence, but will defend herself if it comes down to it. There's a soft place in her heart for the injured, young, and weak.

Sean is still growing up. His face is softened by the leftovers of baby chub, and he hasn't gotten that growth spurt into manhood yet. He's still just a kid. However, he expects that any day he'll sprout up and start looking like a teenager. In the mean time, he's topped out at 5' 2". He's lanky, and has ear-length black hair. He has an Asian appearance from his Japanese heritage, including almond shaped eyes and a smooth complexion. The most distinctive thing about this kid is his smile. He's full of happiness, bursting out of him at all angles. His grin spans his entire face, and sometimes you can barely see his eyes because he's laughing so hard.

Personality: Hiroyuki's mom is Japanese, whereas his father is English. Naturally, his mother named him and he got his last name from his dad. His name means 'A lot of happiness' and that's exactly what he is. Hiro is constantly full of joy. He loves to tell jokes, hang out with friends, and be around the people he loves most. His world spins around the people in it, and he never seems to have a bad day. Beneath his smile, however, there is some sadness. Being smaller than most kids his age, he's a little sensitive to teasing. He brushes it off most of the time, but there's an undeniable need to prove himself buried in his heart.

Every Sunday, Hiro delivers the paper for his neighborhood. It's one of his favorite things to do, and because of it, he's a great bicycler! He can usually outpace all of his classmates on their little adventures down the dirt roads behind his school.

Items/Equipment: The Boy's Survival Kit. This is an Altoids tin filled with all the things a teenager boy could need to survive his adventures! Includes: Five band-aids, some Neosporin, a compass, a whistle, a small Swiss army knife, and a Fruit Roll-up.

Appearance:

Jordan is a short man befitting his shortcomings both in the bed and the working world. His hair is dark, like a computer screen that has been turned off. His eyes are a blue that are used to seeing pixels and nothing else and his entire demeanor invokes a sense of sloth and procrastination. As a result of staying indoors for so long, his skin has digressed to a pallor that doctors would immediately associate with a terminal illness (although, in terms of health, there is nothing wrong with Mr. Reynolds). Jordan is chubby, but not yet of that girth size that would have him being called ‘obese’. He is usually seen—if he is seen at all—wearing a gamer shirt; either Link, Mario, or some other iconic gaming character.

Personality:

Don’t give a task to Jordan because if it doesn’t involve gaming, then it doesn’t involve him. He is a lazy man whose favorite saying is one of his own creations: “Things will work themselves out.” He is a NEET who blames others—his mother in particular—for all his misfortune and also believes that people owe him something. He doesn’t have much care for the world and if it were to end right this moment, he would not bat an eyelash.

He doesn't consider himself to be a misogynist, although he does believe that woman are only good for three things: fucking, cleaning, and cooking--not necessarily in that order--so perhaps there is a paradox there. These thoughts, however, he keeps to himself because the only woman he has had an actual conversation with is his mother and even she tries to keep that to a minimum.

Before gaming, Jordan will read a verse from the bible--any verse will do, as long as God knows that someone is talking to him--and before gaming tournaments, he will pray. To be sure, although Jordan is a Christian--an Anabaptist--he isn't overtly religious and if one were to ever see him, they would never consider him as such. And, he isn't. To be sure, he only met God through gaming. If it wasn't for that, then he would be a 'lost one' as the Catholics like to say

Awesome! And oh my gosh I totally didn't realize, it's been two years since I joined this site and lost all touch with the outside world! And I still have yet to write a three page character sheet like my first or second one... Here's my CS, let me know if there's anything that needs clarification, or if I forgot something.

Name: Kiira Casdel
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Occupation: University Dropout(well, technically, she just stopped showing up), writer.

Appearance: Kiira has dirty blonde hair cut short to just around her face. It is rather messy, with bits going this way and that, especially since she doesn’t often use a comb, instead just running her hands through her hair to try and smooth it out a bit. She has grey eyes with long eyelashes and winged eyeliner. Usually she wears black skinny jeans and a button up white dress shirt, not tucked in, with a loose tie. She switches between steel toed combat boots and high top converse shoes.

Personality: Kiira is a bit obsessed. She became absorbed in her writing and stopped going to school, and she finds it really important, more so than her schooling, she figures she can always go back after she finishes her project. She still enjoys going out to various clubs and spending time at bars, though she’ll sometimes stay cooped up in her small apartment for days at a time just to write. She never really liked the other people at her university, especially the others in the writing and arts programs. All too self-righteous, like they were the best damn writers, like they would change the world with their mediocre scrawl. Though Kiira has a bit of that too, she generally tries writes for herself,

Kiira’s not a huge fan of people. While she does like the nightlife in the city, she especially appreciates the way that she can drop in and out of people’s lives without any attachment. She can go get drinks or dancing with people she barely knew, just like they were best friends, then go home and never have to deal with them, unless she ran into them again, but then it was always just like a fresh start.

Bio: Kiira grew up in America, New York City to be exact. Her parents were wealthy enough that she never needed to worry about money or anything, but she still didn’t have the best relationship with them. She appreciated that they needed to work, but never could really connect, instead, she started going out on the club scene in the city. She did though always long for better weather than the dreary city. She decided to move to Australia to go to college, and her parents sent her off with a modest bank account and a taxi to take her to the airport.

Ever since she stopped going to school she’s found a few odd jobs. Sometimes she’d sell bits of writing, other times spending a few weeks bartending, though right now she’s in a bit of a slump, and hasn’t been able to find a job in a while, so her bank account is getting a little too low for her taste.

Items/Equipment: Three pens: Black, red, and blue. A small brown notebook. Wallet with a bit of cash. A phone. A can of mace.

Age: 67
Gender: Male
Occupation: Retiree, veterans advocate

Personality: Fiercely loyal to a fault and very stringent in his beliefs, Ron's first impression with people is usually that he's very friendly but can be brusque. He's the sort of person who - even when agitated - will still probably be smiling and shaking his head. He doesn't often get mad, but it's usually for a good reason. With a strong dislike for laxity and boredom, he gets very grouchy when he feels his time is either being wasted or his points are being ignored.

Bio: Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Ron came from a storied military family, with family members serving as far back as Boer Wars. Thus it was natural for him to enlist when he came of age. Serving in the Vietnam War as a truck driver and infantryman with 161 Battery, he saw little action but was almost always hard at work delivering supply drops. The strain of the weight he carried and having to jump out of helicopters would lead later in life to his need for a cane.

Once returned from the war, he would go on to marry his long time sweetheart Mary Ellen Gordon. Immigrating to Australia and settling in Sydney, Ron got work as a mechanic, and began to try for kids with his wife. After the second miscarriage, however, the two chose to live their lives simply sans children. The rest of their lives were spent in relative ease and comfort, with Ron being a strong advocate for further government research into the connection between the usage of Agent Orange in Vietnam and chronic lymphatic leukemia.

With the recent passing of his wife, Ron's efforts into veterans advocacy have taken an even stronger turn. He won a great victory when it finally was acknowledged that there was a link between Agent and Orange and leukemia. Since that time, he has been looking to push for further medical help for the disease while officially retiring to Surfers Paradise.

Items/Equipment: One Browning Hi-Power semi-automatic handgun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browning_Hi-Power) with 9mm, cane with wrist-strap, watch, wedding ring, and one pack Winfield Gold cigarettes.

The link to the IC is in the first post, and for our two newcomers it's up to you whether you're in the vicinity of any of the action starting to occur, or simply wish to make an opening post, as yet unaware of the goings on.

Yeah, I remembered halfway through making him that Australia doesn't quite have the same view of guns that we do in the US, or the same laws for that matter, but I do have a relatively good character reason why he would have it on him most of the time. And I won't overuse it, it doesn't have that much ammo to begin with, just a mag and a spare.

I should have got Resident Evil instead of Alien Isolation. XD But I wanted a thrill game and so far every time I play Alien Isolation, my heart would pump because, not only I have to avoid getting caught by the Alien, but also by people who would think you are a murderer as well. Plus all I have as a weapon is a flash light and some kind of jack tool to open doors. XD
