Plot

In a world ruled by the might of technology, the occult arts have long been lost and forgotten. Deep in the recesses of the centuries, almost forcefully erased from history, monsters of legend existed alongside magic. They were one and the same. Werewolves and vampires terrorized all of humanity. Mankind was on the verge of extinction. Many humans wielded magic against the legions, intent on becoming the beacon of hope.

They failed. As entire nations and populaces began to wither and fall before the might of the hellish creatures, every man and woman felt despair. Desperation driving their actions, any and all mages were sent to the front line's of the battlefield, regardless of age. They fell, one after another as they were driven back by the numerically superior monsters.

The last of the mages died on the field of battle, doing nothing but buying time for the rest of mankind. Yet their sacrifice was not in vain. As the last breath of life was exhaled from the final mage, the demons and vampires and werewolves disappeared.

No one knows why.

The monsters underneath our beds ceased to exist as magic fell out of use. It has been many, many centuries since that happened. The horrors have disappeared from the millenniums, as well as the minds of mankind.

Thus, humanity continued their progress. Buildings of steel and glass touched the sky. Planes flew people from one continent to another. Life expectancy reached heights never before conceived. Space travel was in its infancy. It was the Golden Age, one that stretched for centuries.

But the forces of darkness would not be kept at bay.

The world exploded into violence as the monsters, once considered fantasy, ran through the streets, killing wherever they went. Modern arms barely had an effect on them. Vampires simply continued on as shrapnel and bullets tore through their bodies. Werewolves were too fast to aim. The military might of the world was crushed.

Helpless civilians began to barricade themselves within their once glorious cities, living like rats in their own backyards. The legions of monsters gleefully allowed them to live. Any human that was captured outside the fortifications became a meal for the werewolves, or livestock for the vampires. Other horrific fiends, two stories long, roamed outside, crushing the steel walls as they saw fit, as if to show how insignificant mankind was.

The world was once again driven to despair. But this time, they had no one to fight the fiends. They could only cower in the shattered husks of their cities.

It was at this time that magic once again returned to the hands of a select few. However, mankind was not as foolish as before, and they poured research into these individuals, trying to figure out how to exploit this power into a real fighting force.

Thus, Demon Summoning was born. Negotiating with beings from another world mankind, yet again, found another way. If a human was strong enough mentally, demons allowed themselves to be contracted to them. These powerful beings lent their aid. For some, being able to leave their realm was enough reason to contract. But for the truly powerful, a sacrifice or promise had to be made.

But once again, this power did not come without sacrifice. The Demons were absolutely fascinated with the power of the mages, and requested them as a commodity in their negotiations. Once again, the last of the mages died. The only difference was, they did so by choice. They offered themselves up, wishing only for mankind to take back their world and thrive.


Setting

Shit is fucked, yo. This takes place in the shattered husk of New York about 20 years after the invasion of the occult. So yes, your characters can be survivors and such. Don't worry about getting anything correct, because I haven't been there either. I'll just read a map if that's okay with ya'll. Anyway, the government now houses schools designed to test an individual and see if they are capable of summoning. You are one of the many new recruits. The government and military are determined to expand their safe zone. That's means taking the fight to the monsters. You won't just run into werewolves and vampires. You'll run into ghouls, freakish spiders, and other things. If you want to be a veteran, talk to me.

Think of it as a military academy type deal. There won't be any classes anime style, per se. It'll more operate as our base.

Things to know about demons-
1.They don't materialize outside the minds of their summoners. The only time they can really talk with others is in battle, and the Weapon types rarely talk.

2. Even if the demons acquiesced to an agreement with humans, that doesn't mean the majority of them will be happy being contracted. The strongest demons are usually contracted against their will or are promised something.

3. They aren't your friends. Don't believe them. The ultimate goal of a demon is to possess the body of the summoner. They like our realm so much they'd do something like that.

4. Summoner types have the highest percentage of getting possessed, as well as being the strongest. That's not to say that only the most powerful demons prefer to be summoned in this way, just the majority.




Demon Summon types.




These demons synergize with your soul and become one with your mind. They magically increase your physical parameters, and certain demons can even grant magic to the summoner, although that isn't entirely common. Possession type summoners are trained in the body and are considered the specialists of extreme close combat. They use any weapons, swords or guns. Unfortunately, these types of demons cannot enhance foreign things outside the body.

The demons also affect the body of the summoner.

This demon is transformed into a single weapon beyond compare. Demonic swords or bows or even guns. Some have the ability to directly cut through magic. Others are fueled by magic itself, and can give its blade or projectiles magical properties like ice, fire, etc. It's as powerful as how much thought you can put into a weapon.

A demon itself is actually summoned, in all of it's glory. This is the powerhouse of the three, but is notorious for having demon's break the contract or for the summoners going mad. The demon has access to a plethora of magical spells as well as having a constitution beyond compare. This has warning labels slapped all over it. This is easily the most draining of the three. The summoner's themselves are not enhanced in any way.

Nope. Human can only contract with one demon. It's part of the negotiations, besides humans can't do more than one anyway. The contract is tied directly to the soul.

Well, er, maybe I forgot to mention one detail. Demons don't exactly materialize outside the minds of their Summoner's. It's why the Summoning type comes with so much red tape. By restricting the Demon to the mind of a human, their true power is restricted, thereby making them easier to control.

So a demon won't really interact with others unless in battle, and the Weapon types rarely talk at all. Maybe I ought to put this in the OP. Meant to reveal IC but since one of you wants to be a demon, I have to let you know.

OOOOhhh. Sorry I guess I miss understood how the characters were working. If it's too difficult we don't have to do it this way. Just thought it would be interesting considering, at least I would think, that the demons wouldn't be too happy about being restricted even if they ultimately agreed to it in the end. Just thought it would make interactions between human and demon more interesting.

It's more of question of difficulty between the two of you, actually. You'll be spending the majority of the time not doing anything and only talking to your contractor. That wouldn't really be fun for you, like, at all.

But I can offer something else, if you'd like. I could play your demon. Give you something to talk to and throw a wrench in the plans and stuff. Of course, for some of the major things, I'd have to get your permission first. This option is available to all players as well.

Appearance: Evie has short, brown hair cropped around the face, with very light blue eyes. She's petite of frame, standing around 5'4 and 110 lbs. She wears the same Academy issued clothing as the other Summoners. Her sword she straps to her back and her pistol is strapped to her right thigh. She wears a pendant (http://www.pagandreams.co.uk/pics/5320.jpg) with a runic symbol for protection on it. She doesn't know if it would actually protect her against the monsters, but her parents gave it too her upon acceptance to the Academy.

Summoner Type: Summoned Demon, Fire Type Demon

Abilities:
Demon:
*possession - can occasionally take control over "his human"
*skilled with most bladed weapons (knifes, swords, etc) - all are covered with a supernatural fire when in use, but are just normal weapons for anyone else
*can create fire out of nothing to use as a weapon
Evie:
*Acrobatic - as it's hard to kill a monster with human created weapons, Evie focused on acrobatic skill in order to just avoid them completely
*Endurance/Speed -again to help avoid
*Accuracy - Can hit the mark with her pistol, but only at a normal range

Equipment: Pistol with silver tipped bullets, Bastard sword

Personality: Evelyn is more of a follower than a leader. Loyal to the cause of humanity and willing to give up anything to see the world safe again. She's friendly and willing to help when needed, but hates making decisions.

Bio:
Evie was only 4 when the monsters returned to hassle humanity. It had been a surprise after so many years of peace after the monsters had vanished the first time. It had taken 5 more years of terror and fighting before a new method of handling the creatures was discovered. And once again there became a manner of safety felt by the inhabitants of the great cities.

Evie grew up having to deal with curfews and other rules put in place to keep the normal citizens safe. Her father was part of the military. working to keep the monsters at bay. Her mother worked as a medical assistant tending to those who were injured by any incursions. Neither of which had any skills that would led them to be demon summoners, much less for anyone to think that their daughter would.

She'd taken the test like anyone her age did, only to receive notice that she was to join the school. She attended the orientation day. Her parents were very proud that she was selected. It was an honor to serve. The mages had given their lives for the people of the world and it was honorable to be selected to help see that deal through.

When set to bind with a demon, she didn't so much a choose one as he chose her. He gave a strong presence, pushing all others aside until only he was left. He offered his assistance for a price. But she never felt like she had much choice in the matter. If it wasn't her then he might not agree to bind with another and the cause would benefit from such strength.

Age can be anything. It's a military academy. 18-30.

Nothing. It's the only academy of its kind. We'll just call it the Academy for conveniences' sake.

Mages are dead. The demons grant the summoner's their magic. We're regular humans. Magic is gone from this world. Basically, we're borrowing their power.

Yeah. But as stated in the OP, conventional weaponry aren't half as effective as they should be. That's why we're summoning demons. Most demons don't use ranged weaponry, so swords and the like are coming back as well.

Yeah was just trying to figure out what my character would carry. I'm assuming the Academy trains them to still make an attempt at personal defense.

Yeah. The Summoner types have to rely wholly on their demon though. Both vampirs and werewolves outstrip humans physically. There are a few types out there that could be taken down through conventional means, but they're weak of course.

If you're talking about fighting the legions of monsters...yes. You. The demon summoner. Possession type summoners wield normal weapons. A certain summoner inside the safe zone can enchant your weapon to be more useful. I won't be a major upgrade but possession types can kill with them.

Not to mention that it gives the normal peeps a way of standing against the hordes. I hope I answered correctly.

Well, they're one and the same, really. So yeah, whatever abilities the demon grants you. You could also list personal skills for the summoner. Maybe they're trained as a swordsman or are a crack shot with a rifle.

Appearance: *Being forced so deal with it*

Summoner Type: Weapon, enhancement

Abilities:
Henshin （変身、へんしん） (Lit: Transformation) : Atsuko carries a weapon by the name of Zengun icchi (全軍一致)(Lit: All of armed forces together). Zengun was a powerful japanese demon whose powers reached the deepest levels of hell. It’s powers were unlike any other demon. Higher demons usually call upon weaker demons for assistance. Zengun did no such thing. Zengun had the innate ability to control the weapons of hell. He was a man with the power of a multitude of armies behind him. When sealed away his powers then transferred into his containment. Zengun icchi is capable of utilizing the ability henshin in order to turn into anything. The only limitation in Zengun’s ability is that of it’s master’s imagination. Although for this ability Zengun loses the destructive force other demon weapons carry. Zengun while contained takes the appearance of a metallic sphere.

Tsukisasu (突き刺す) (Lit: To pierce) : Although Zengun lacks the destructive power that other demon weapons offer it does have the ability to shatter magic. Zengun was a demon who vexed all magic even other demon’s.

Equipment: Atsuko carries very light equipment. Her weapon’s capability allows her to not need as much as the average soldier. She does carry a pistol, and her armor is unlike that of other soldiers. She wears heavy knight-esque armor that was given to her by her parents and passed down via generations. On regular people it would certainly constrict movements, but with Atsuko wearing it almost religiously from a very young age she has grown accustomed to her armor.

Personality: Atsuko from a very young age was sweet, and compassionate. As she grew older she saw the horrors of the world and began to act out, aggressively towards anyone who even glanced at her with any sense of aggression. As she continued to age into a more mature state she placed her anger towards the things that scared her. On the battlefield she is quick to protect those in danger, and functions very well in a team. Although she has a soft timid nature on the battlefield she will not hesitate to question someone if she doesn’t agree. She believes in the value of morality and compassion, two things she has clung onto throughout her whole life. Outside of the battlefield she is a bit more timid and often keeps to herself.

Bio: Atsuko from a young age had a very difficult life. Her father was a measly hunter on the outskirts of some village in Japan. She never went out with her father to hunt, seeing it as senseless violence. She often argued with her father questioning his motives and went as far as throwing away their meals. As she grew older and saw the horrors of the world and her fews began to change. Every time her father went out to hunt she was there with him, and would even hunt without him. Throughout this change her father began to speak about her about the legacy of their family.

At the age of 11 Atsuko’s father grew very ill. In order to accommodate him they moved to New York for better care than their rustic village had to offer. This was also where the rest of their family was located. Atsuko began rebelling against her family by sneaking out, disobeying, and blatantly ignoring anything her parents told her. Her father died when she was no older than 13, and when he left her he bestowed upon her the gift of their family name. It seemed like nothing more than sphere. For months, even years she had no clue what the item truly was capable of.

Once reaching the age of 19 she turned her anger to something different. The horror of the world returned. During her prior years before this her other family members revealed the secret of the Hayashi. They once were great warriors, and were revered throughout Japan. With the dawn of the new evil upon them Atsuko was brought in as a new recruit by the family in order to massacre the new threat. She was trained, to the point of exhaustion, and then trained even further. She was treated as nothing more than a dog learning tricks. Though her training paid of and her goal now is to slay any enemy in her path.

Summoner Type: Possession

Abilities: Due to the aid of the Demon, when Shawn is possessed his awareness, strength, agility, and durability are enhanced to unfathomable levels.

Equipment: Twin Shinken made from pure Silver, Cybernetic helmet that cannot be taken off for long periods of time.

Personality: Shawn is what many would describe as stoic. He doesn't really display many emotions, or even if he did, it wouldn't be very easy to tell as he is almost always wearing his helmet. He doesn't speak unless spoken to, doesn't like to bother people with his speech. He is very intelligent, although not wanting to draw much attention to himself. He is very protective of any friends that he has and is sometimes notable for his acts of selflessness.

Bio: Shawn's early childhood wasn't very much out of the ordinary. However, when he turned six, his parents told him that they were going into hiding. They didn't tell him why they were hiding, they just told him that it was like a game of hide and seek. The only difference is that they must never be found by the ones they are hiding from or there'd be trouble. Shawn, at that time, didn't really understand.

But, a few years went by. He was about 10 years old and still they never told him about what was going on. Back then, Kameron was a more adventurous person and was getting to be a little rebellious for his age. So, one night, he snuck outside from their hiding place and explored. It was fun at first, and it didn't seem very dangerous. What he didn't know at the time was that he was being followed.

His parents, still in hiding had awoken, and noticed that their son was missing, immediately searching for him. When they had gotten too him, it was nearly too late. Shawn was laying in an alley way, left for dead, his eyes missing. No one knew who did this, but it was thought to be a vampire toying with him. Meanwhile, they brought him back to their hiding place and wrapped his face. He now knew why they had remained hidden for all those years.

However, as the months went on When humans found a way to fight back through the use of demons, his parents had to have him take the test. They were startled to hear that he was actually accepted! When they alerted the people that he was blind, they said that they might have something to aid with that.

This was a very special helmet that would help with his awareness but he couldn't take it off for any more than a few hours, or he would die. It was the only one of it's kind and it needed to be tested. His parents were reluctant at the thought, but had agreed to the conditions.

They sent him, along with their family heirloom, two shinken made from Pure silver. Once there, he looked to be very unpromising, most demons went for other people saying that he was good for nothing. However, he was eventually contracted with a demon named Djinn. Shawn was rather indifferent to being possessed by a demon. While in the academy, Djinn begrudgingly taught him in how to wield his two swords.

World-worn and unkempt, George has little opportunities to take care of himself. His hair is cut as regularly as he finds time for it, but otherwise he has the look of someone who hasn't bathed in years. Literally.

Demon Abilities: Capable of making accurate shots up to 8 miles away, pierces majority of magical defenses, capable of loading different kinds of rounds for different situations.

Equipment: Carbon fiber vest beneath his clothes, low-caliber pistol with a small number of spare magazines, a powerful scope detached from his original sniper rifle, a large military-grade backpack.

Personality: Very down-to-Earth, George is the type of guy that spends evenings trying to cheer everyone up for the next day. Doesn't talk very much about himself, if at all, instead deflecting questions in favor of turning them back on the person who asked. Has weird habits of talking to his rifle, even before it was a demon.

Bio: As he was 5 when the invasion started, George was essentially brought up in a world of death and destruction. His Father quickly became his main inspiration, doing everything he could to both take care of him and teach him about the world despite the horrendous event going on out there in the real world. Despite the fact that everyone else abandoned it, the pair stayed in their high-rise apartment in the middle of New York. From there, his Father had a good opportunity to loot a number of nearby areas. They survived comfortably for a long time, avoiding other humans and monsters alike. From time to time, they'd take potshots on wandering creatures from neighboring buildings, always careful to keep their home a secret.

By 15, George was likely one of the few well-educated children of the survivors without any Government control. It was about then that his Father heard rumors of safe zones being more and more prominent and thought it prudent to move to one for both their sakes. On the way, however, it all went wrong. An attack cut their efforts short, mortally wounding the boy's Father in a crossfire from looters and military forces. Grief stricken, George watched his Father pass on, begging him to live a good life.

Unable to accept that outcome, George took his Father's hunting rifle and tracked the looters down. One by one, he picked them off in the dead of the night until their screams attracted the nocturnal creatures that now roamed New York. Similarly, he tried to do the same to the military camp – but was caught out by a patrol. When questioned as to why he did what he did, he explained what happened and mentioned his single-handed elimination of the looter group. Having piqued the interest of those involved, they offered to let his attempted murders slip by if he would enlist.

Without any other choice, he did.

Over the next 10 years, he was put through rigorous military training and sent on a number of suicide missions. Through a mixture of sheer determination and luck, he always came back. Even when all the other members of his squad died, he remained. Wanting to take advantage of that mixture of skill and fortune, they recommended him to the new 'training programs' for testing people to see if they could house demons.

It was, then, perhaps through luck (or a lack thereof), he could.
