So I'm slowly but steadily working on a piece that has been on my mind for well over the decade. I've finished up a small introduction but would love some feedback!

Some say that madness and power are two sides of the same coin.

Power is a dangerous gift. I have seen the best of men fall victim to the madness that stems from an insatiable lust for power. Quite often these are good, righteous men, those who seek to change the world and yet, despite the purest of intentions, these men fail to consider the consequences of their actions. The madness is slow, merciless, steadily creeping into their minds. Soon the man who sought only to better himself finds himself changing. He is a mere shell of the man that the world once knew. He is willing to dirty his hands if he should determine that end will justify the means.

Then there is another type of man. He is tireless in his quest for power. His motivation is his own gain. There are no pretenses. This man is willing to embrace the madness that comes with the dominance he has established. This man might be the most dangerous type of all. The Kyrian emperor is one such man. Some say that the day Tyndareus ascended the throne, he grasped the old coin and asked, "why not both?" The day that Tyndareus seized the throne is a day that will forever live in infamy. Villages have burned, thousands have been enslaved, and countless have lost their lives in days past. Those closest to emperor have admitted that the so called Great King sees the world as nothing but a game and we are little more than the pieces on the board.

If it were not for this greed and tyranny, I would not find myself in the position that I am in today. Here as I sit in this cell I await my judgement. In the coming days, many rumors concerning my character will come to pass. Deplorable as my actions might have been I can only promise that these acts were justified. You my child are the one and only whom I feel deserves an explanation. No, not only do you need it, but you deserve it more than anyone.

I have played many roles in my admittedly short life. My grandest moments were spent as a queen and yet my beginning is far more humble. There are those who would dare call me a false queen, a usurper. There will be whispers that I am a harlot, a whore, a murderer and thief. I have claimed the position of a leader and I have walked the barefooted path of a peasant. Most will think of me as a villain, few will think of me as a hero. I still speak as though you truly know who I could be. Hold your breath now and you will hear me speak. I was born Irina Olivier de Tulie'l and if you listen carefully, you may just hear how my story came to be.
