The moon was unrecognizable from what it had become. The Hive had caused deep rifts to form along the lunar surface, the worst of them visible even from the surface of Earth. The landscape had become scarred and many already considered the many research and defensive bases dotting the terrain to be a lost cause. Much arguing had filled the air in the last meeting of the Guardians and their leaders. But finally, a decision was made: Kera and her team would be the first to set foot upon the moon after its fall.
It was a suicide job. All communication with the lunar bases had ceased almost a week ago. It was unlikely anyone had survived. It was just as unlikely that they would as well, wading deep into the waters of enemy territory. But that was the job of a Guardian; to forge a light through the darkness.
.....
The head of a silver jackal (http://gamingtrend.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Trials_of_osiris6.jpg) appeared over the edge of one of the moon's many rifts and craters, its presence hidden amongst the silvery surface of the moon. Even its peculiar metallic presence could not be discerned from far away as moon dust was nearly as reflective as a bit of metal.
Kera outstretched her hand as she stared off across the horizon from beneath the visage of her helmet. Her ghost instantly got to work, utilizing the advanced teleportation technologies they had developed decades earlier to cause her Field Rifle to appear in her hand in a small flash of blue light. It was quickly brought to point and the barrel, stock, and scope all extended as the gun reconfigured itself to its long range mode.
Her scope focused upon a base not too far off. Blast holes from a recent battle riddled the roof of the structure and left large gaps. She pulled her gun down slightly and saw a group of Fallen standing around the entrance. The door to the establishment opened and out stepped the unmistakable silhouette of a captain, proceeded by three space suit-clad civilians. "Shit... We've got Fallen too..." Kera muttered back to her squad.
An angry, unintelligible grunt, a flash of blue, and a spray of red.
"Fuck... They're executing survivors. We might be too late." For a moment, the Awoken lowered her rifle in disappointment. "If all the damn bureaucrats back at the Tower hadn't taken so long to make a decision, we might have been able to do something here." She spat out in disgust.
