The Bonds of Blood

The Republic and the Sith Empire, who have been at war for the past fifty years, finally called for a ceasefire! It is a fragile peace, for although they appear diplomatic, both sides still grasp for means to gain the upper hand. The Sith, fearsome conquerors of the dark side of the Force who are led by the Sith Council and the DARK LORD, appear unable to overcome the Republic, and they grow continually impatient with the ceasefire. The Jedi, monastic guardians acquainted with the light side of the Force who serve as both peacekeepers and warriors for the Republic, seek an ancient prophetic legend: that the CHOSEN ONE will come to deliver balance to the Force and end the Sith reign. Name: Kirana Aldamar
Age: 10

Appearance: As a somewhat malnourished boy living on the streets, Kirana has a small and skinny frame covered with clothes too big for him. A mop of messy, wavy black hair that clearly isn’t cut often enough sits atop his head with a rounded jawline that suggests the remnants of boyhood. His skin and eyes reflect that of his siblings'; delightfully khaki, exquisitely violet and almond-shaped.

Equipment: Boy - none

Powers: Boy - very rare use of Force Speed

Personality: Boy - Kirana is a boy who lacks the ability to function on his own, and yet strives so hard to do so. When the Aldamar siblings became orphans, Kirana found himself depending entirely upon his older brother and sister (undoubtedly to the point of annoyance). While he has managed to develop at least a slight sense of independence from them, everything he does is still to impress them. When his brother convinces him to act as a distraction for a newfound pickpocket victim, he does it to the very best of his abilities. When his sister teaches him the very basics of reading, he tries as hard as he could.

When they debated over how to properly raise him...well, that ticked him off. If there's one thing that Kirana hates, it's being the "kid." He wants to prove to them that he is no burden, that he can help. Although he constantly looks up to Kol and unconsciously imitates him, he is also annoyed very frequently by Kol's know-it-all attitude, which is often exploited to Kirana's utmost frustration (Kol does know better than him since he’s older, to Kirana’s further annoyance).

While Kirana is motivated to gain his siblings' praise, he is inspired further to climb past his siblings. Part of him wants to repay them for looking out for him. Another part wants to show them that he's better.

Backstory: No one remembers their birth. No one remembers their time as an infant. No one remembers the first steps they took or the first words they said, spoon-feeding, learning to tie their shoes, or their parents’ first embrace.

Kirana was no exception. He couldn’t even remember his parents; not how they looked, not how they spoke, not how their skin felt touching his. He most certainly didn’t know how—let alone why—they left.

Instead, his first memories started with his older siblings raising him on the streets of Coruscant. He cried a lot initially but had to accept his brother and sister as replacements for his mother and father. Tears turned to smiles as he gradually appreciated what little family he had left and learned to ignore the gnawing pang of hunger that seemed to constantly haunt him.

In his youth, Kirana fell ill, and Evana and Kol were unable to improve his condition. That was when Bel’mano, a Twi’lek who led a small crime cartel, promised to take them in and treat Kirana. Although Bel’mano stayed true to his word, he “suggested” that the children work under him to repay his “generosity.” Evana and Kol had little choice, and Kirana followed dutifully when he recovered.

By the age of ten, Kirana understood the dog-eat-dog rules of the metropolitan planet. He knew that in order to feed himself and his siblings, he had to take from others. It was simply how the world worked. One couldn’t look out for everyone, so you looked out for the ones you loved. Something about him could not fathom the opposing opinion of generosity for charity’s sake.

Due to his young age, the young Aldamar boy only completed menial tasks. The most dangerous jobs he ever completed were late night break-ins to factories and warehouses, during which he usually stood as a lookout. Bel'mano undoubtedly would give him more difficult tasks in the future; he had seen the tears upon his sister’s cheeks when she returned from some of her jobs, and he had heard the thundering punches upon the wall from his brother’s frustration and anger. One day Kirana would do the same.

That’s exactly what he hoped. He wanted to complete more difficult tasks not to repay Bel'mano, but to repay his brother and sister for the debt which he placed upon their heads for being such a burden to them before. Every time he heard their emotional releases, he knew it was his fault, and that made him angry at everyone—including himself. If he could take their places on Bel’mano’s more important jobs, perhaps they wouldn’t have to be so sad. If he could take their pain and frustration at their despicable situation, perhaps they wouldn’t have to be so mad.

Kirana knew he could handle it. He was stronger than them.

He would prove them all wrong.

Name: Evana Aldamar

Age: 14

Gender: Female

Race: Human

Appearance: Evana is slender and of average height. She has gentle wavy black hair reaching to her mid-back with sweeping bangs and two long braids on each temple with silver lace gracefully woven into them. Her skin is warm beige and her eyes have a somewhat exotic, almond shape to them and are violet. Her face is diamond shaped with prominent cheekbones and full lips.

Equipment: Child - None

Powers:
Child- One accidental use of Force Push; uncanny sense of a person's emotions

Personality: Evana has always been the calmer and gentler of her siblings. She is empathetic, compassionate, kind, and prefers diplomacy over aggression. She is long-suffering, never losing her temper, but she can be trusted to fight when it comes down to it, and to do so without hesitance.

Kol and Kiri are Evana’s world now that their mother has passed on. While Kol protects them both, Evana has stepped into the nurturing role her mother left behind, often to her siblings’ agitation. She can be a bit overbearing in her motherliness, and Kiri in particular seems to fight against her parenting as he seeks greater independence from his siblings and to prove himself to them. Sometimes Evana feels that her brothers push her buttons on purpose, hoping that her patient and kind demeanor will crack and she will finally lose her temper. Nevertheless, she perseveres. Barely.

Evana is ever concerned about Kol’s deep anger and recklessness. While he fights to remain strong and stoic in his role of guardian, she has seen the pain in his eyes and the violence with which his temper can burst. She fears that he may one day pick a fight he can’t win--or worse, take the fight too far. She tries to do what she can to ease his inner suffering and be a cooling balm to soothe his anger, but she can never hope to fill the void their mother’s death and father’s abandonment left in his heart. After all, she can’t fill the one in her own, either.

Backstory: Evana has no memory of her father, having been very young when he left. For this void, she is grateful. But of her mother, she holds onto the memory of her face--beautiful to the little girl who loved her so--and the sound of her gentle voice, the warmth of her arms as Evana fell asleep in them. She remembers the incredible depth of love her mother felt for them.

And she remembers her death.

After being orphaned along with her two siblings, the three lived on the streets, dirty and desperate and ignored by the general public. They scavenged for food, typically eating the garbage discarded in alleys, until their grungy lifestyle finally caught up to them and Evana’s younger brother, Kirana, fell desperately ill. A local cartel discovered them and took advantage of their plight, offering them food, shelter, and treatment for the boy’s illness in exchange for “favors”. Determined to save their sibling and gaunt from eking out a meager living on the streets, the children agreed, though Evana, for her part, was hesitant to do so, knowing that such an offer was not being made out of compassion. In the end, however, her brother’s life surpassed any misgivings she had about the proposal.

Surely enough, once the cartel had them under its thumb, the children were forced to carry out petty crimes in exchange for food and shelter. These crimes generally consisted of robbery, but also the occasional stakeout on a target or smuggling. Evana, pretty and shy, was a favorite pet of some of the cartel members, who took pleasure in watching her squirm. All that stood between them and her more intimate dignity was her big brother, Kol, who ever came to her defense--but even he could not save her from being forced to carry out crimes that left her guilt-ridden.

Their childhood has been wrought with grief and difficulty, and Evana lives in fear of the day that Kol is no longer enough to protect her from the cruel and lecherous syndicate members.

Name: Kolton “Kol” Aldamar

Age: 15

Gender: Male

Race: Human

It is not a surprise to see a few black-and-blue bruises on his body, considering the amount of fights he gets himself into. He stands a few inches taller than a teenager around his age, and he has a handsome chiseled face – which can come across as intimidating in his stoic expression. Unlike his siblings, he does not have their raven-black hair, but instead has light-brunette hair that is slightly messy and dirty due to living in the streets. He does share other physical similarities to Evana and Kiri, like the almond eyes with violet irises and light-bronze skin.

Equipment: None

Powers: Minor form of Force Persuasion and Force speed

Personality: Kol is the only one with vague memories of the siblings’ father, who abandoned the mother after conceiving Kol (do you mean Kiri?) a couple years later. Kol harbors anger towards the father that abandoned the family to their lonesome, and even blames him for their mother’s sickness and early death. Ever since the mother’s death, Kol stepped up as “the man of the family” and always looks after both of his younger siblings - even becoming overprotecting at times. He will do anything to ensure the safety of his siblings, whether it’s taking a few beatings for them or performing a couple dark jobs to earn money.

Kol is rather reckless, and will often act before thinking - especially when he is angry. He has a short-temper, and will resort to violence if need be. He will never lay a hand on his siblings, of course, but may raise his voice every once in a while to make a point. He is a distrustful person, and it may take a while before a new person can warm up to him. He feels the burden of taking care of his little siblings at such as young age, and is prone to angry outbursts and even small bouts of depression. However, he always places a strong face in front of his siblings, he can never make himself look weak - otherwise, it will demoralize both Evana and Kiri, and they don’t need that sort of nonsense amongst all of the crap they already deal on a daily basis.

Among his siblings, his rough personality has his soft spots. He can be rather playful and lightly tease both siblings, especially Kiri - the “baby” of the family. He prioritizes family above all, even his own life - and will gladly sacrifice it if need be to protect his siblings. He intends to be the best older brother possible by being self-sacrificing and protective, as the “man of the family” should.

Backstory: Kol may be the only one with vague memories of both parents - understanding that the father abandoned the family shortly after Kiri was born, and the mother fell sick and soon perished. Kol took upon the role of being “the man of the family” and took care of both of his siblings, constantly looking after them. He understood the survival of the fittest concept rather quickly, and began to commit small crimes like pickpocketing to earn money - which he would use to buy food for both of his siblings. Oftentimes, if they only had a small amount of food, Kol would willingly give his fair share to the others. He would fight through the pains of hunger and remain the strong figure that both young siblings needed.

When Kiri got sick, Kol was more than willing to work with the cartel that approached them. Evana voiced her concerns about working for a group that didn’t seem… trustworthy, to say the least. Kol, however, readily dismissed her concerns because without the cartel’s help, Kiri’s condition would only worsen. Eventually, they all agreed to join the cartel and its leader, Bel’mano. Kol performed the jobs that were requested for him, but noticed that quite a few of them members gave too much ‘attention’ to Evana. At one point, one of the cartel members openly suggested that they use the teenaged girl as a prostitute on the streets to earn some easy cash. Kol immediately threw himself at the cartel member and got into a violent fight, despite being the smaller person. The fight quickly broke up when the other members stepped up and pulled the two away, and now everyone knew that the young Kol was a person that couldn’t be messed with - and they couldn’t ‘get him out of the way’ because he was an efficient member in the cartel.

Kol continues working for the cartel, ignoring most of the guilt he carried with the crimes he has committed. However, each task’s morality is questioned, especially when the darkness of the deed keeps on escalating. Kol completely understands the concept of the survival of the fittest, but he would not want himself nor his siblings to cross that line - where they could never come back from. He hopes that his strength and wit will be enough to protect his family from the cruelties of the world, but knows that he is only one kid - one that carries an extremely heavy burden.

Yep, spring semester starts up tomorrow - I know, my school starts relatively late compared to many other colleges/universities. Its partially because my university offers winter session classes, which takes up quite a while.

Ugh, I'm going to miss my winter break. My schedule was basically composed of sleeping in, going to the gym, taking care of small ROTC/school stuff, RPA, working at night with my two part-time jobs, and heading out to the bars once or twice a week... like last night >.>

I'm not ready to have my school and ROTC responsibilities again lol

Anyways, I'll have some free time to get a post up later on today, so keep an eye out for that

Well, I don't think the drastic action that I plan is going to be pointless lol it'll flesh out the lightsaber battle a little bit, but there will be much more to it than that

But...but what I'm saying is that we don't need a lightsaber battle yet, bro. Let's pace ourselves. We're only on page 2. Cut to black leaves it to the reader's imagination, cuz while 3 Sith vs a Jedi Master would undoubtedly be cool, it makes the reader want to see a saber battle more if we delay it.

Think of it through the eyes of our characters. They just saw the bare bones of a saber battle. As they grow and learn to use saber and the force, so shall our readers. If we give it all to them at once, then other saber battles could be boring and not as dramatic.

Example: A New Hope. The only time you see sabers drawn and used is in the mid-end of it with Obi-Wan vs. Vader.
Better example: The Empire Strikes Back. The only saber duel you see is one at the very end, Luke vs. Vader.

You did read my last IC post right? One of the sith was killed off, so there's only 2 left; so its not going to be a "3 sith vs Jedi Master" battle.

I barely intend to flesh out this saber battle, I don't have any plans to make it some big epic fight scene or whatever. My only intention is to create something drastic between the 2 remaining Sith, and I can even do it with the aftermath of the saber battle - and I wouldn't even have to touch it.

My focus on this story is the same as yours, to make this interesting and fun. If I'm going to extend the lightsaber battle for any reason, its only because it would be pivotal to the current story. But again, I can completely skip the battle and go straight to the aftermath to create my plot point.

If we left it to the "readers imagination" (there's only the 3 of us following the story), it may rob the intensity of the plot point I had. The only consequence I can think of the plot point I had in mind, is that it may be too much too soon - but it would have nothing to do with fleshing out a lighsaber battle.

Another reason I'm planning something drastic is to flesh out the 2 Sith characters. The one sith I introduced, Kysir, I have plans for him to be pivotal to Kol's fall to darkness - and so that's why I want to work on him a little more.

What if we have it so that the parts that you need from the saber battle come in the form of brief flashbacks to the fight, only small snippets of it so that you can have your important moment(s) and still leave the fight to the imagination? The primary of your post could be told as aftermath from Kysir's perspective, while little flashbacks or recollections fill in the cracks?

Also, I'm going to edit a little bit some of my earlier posts so that Nox's goal is to apprehend the Sith, not kill. Makes more sense with the Jedi Code.

Then again, they are at war. Idk, how can this work with the Code?

Up to you, though. My understanding is that killing is a last resort, and only if lives are in danger. They don't kill the defenseless (thus Anakin telling Windu that killing Palpatine was against the Code--he was "defenseless"). But, as mentioned, Darth Maul was an active combatant and Obi-Wan's life was in danger, so he did not hesitate to kill Maul. Same with Grievous.

Hmm... well, here's my suggestion to hopefully work things out. I will not touch the lightsaber battle at all, that way we can leave it to the imagination. I will deal with the direct aftermath with the 2 sith, because I don't think utilizing flashbacks would be as effective with the plot point I had in mind.

I don't have to do this aftermath post right away, though, I can do it in the near future instead.

As stated in my last post, only his master came out with some rather severe injuries, and Kysir himself was holding back - and he's also a pro with dual-wielding those blades lol. Anyways, I mainly want him to make an appearance, because I would like for him to use a special ability to sort of... nourish the seeds of corruptions in Kol.

Well, I'm not exactly sure if its odd timing, since stated in my last IC post - Kysir has a strong interest in the 2 force-potential children and would like to capture them for the Sith forces. Its not like he's going to leave them alone all of a sudden. If he does not capture, then he intends to corrupt one of them - especially the one prone to anger.

I was planning for Kysir to make an appearance - not sure whether a lightsaber battle between him and Nox will be necessary, but I do plan for him to utilize the Summon Fear (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Summon_fear) on Kol. Kol's worst fear, of course, will him being powerless to save his family as they are both killed or something along those lines. Sooner or later, Kysir can be chased off or something like that, but the damage will be done. Throughout Kol's training, he will constantly wonder if it will be enough to protect his family... or if he needs to seek power elsewhere

I didn't exactly made introductions, because I realized something - I don't think we ever really agreed upon who the Jedi Grand Master is or should be. I figured that it would be pretty important since I would think that the Grand Master would be one of the first individuals to meet the Aldamar siblings.

EDIT: also, I don't really like how Nox and the idea of the children becoming trained was brought about. Firstly, Nox should be introduced through dialogue, not a narrator pass over (rules of narrative demand it to be so). Secondly, the council doesn't know about these kids, so it's more that Nox is bringing them to the council to see what they think. So the idea of them being trained 1) should also be introduced through dialogue, not a pass over (once again, rules of narrative) and 2) isn't even a reality at the moment, because the council has to decide what to do with them first

True, true. Two of them would typically be considered too old, and Kol's strong feelings would be sensed and possibly make him seem a liability rather than worthy of training. I think Kiri is the only one who would be taken in without much debate, while Evana and Kol would be a hotly debated matter. Nox might even get into a little bit of trouble for bringing them in the first place.

So do we want to have Kayne edit the post to take us back to the ship, have a brief bit of dialogue that introduces Nox and lets the children ask whatever burning questions are on their tongues, then move to the temple and have Nox take them to the council for inspection?

Alright, I tried working out the dialogue options that was suggested earlier, but I honestly couldn't wrap my head on a good idea to work it out. More than likely because Nox is more-or-less, your character, Doc, and you have the best idea on what her personality is.

That's why I resorted to the narrative option, along with being concise - because I was frankly delaying things long enough and wanted to get things moving. As for the training, I don't think I have the right vision on how it should be handled, because again, Nox will be the main focus of the dialogue.

I'll re-edit my post right now and get rid of everything other than the Kysir portion. I can give it another go with the Nox dialogue tomorrow (I have a ROTC formal tonight), but I don't think I would be the best person to write this out.

But I was thinking about stuff today

1) I think that we should keep the Jedi council convo about them for a memory flash/flashes. We can all copost their initial convos with the three of them together, but then after the council asks them to leave we should just have it be from the perspective of the kids waiting outside of the council room, then receiving their decision to train them. It would help for a narrative, and it gives us more time to write the post of the Jedi council discussing whether to train them

2) I think we should work on personal story arcs. I have an idea for Kirana's story arc where there's a douchebag kid who he hates and treats him like shit and Kirana thinks he's working with the Sith but no one believes him. I also plan to include a noble kid who is the best duelist in their class who looks down on Kiri, but they end up being frienemies. I'm gonna link those two and other stuff together, but we should consider our character arcs and what you guys want to do with them!

3) CatBat, we've had IC intros with both Sith and Jedi. When do you want to start introducing the Grey Jedi? Maybe just a chance meeting with them somewhere to introduce them to the narrative, but don't actually bring them into the plot until later?
