Name: Ruarcc the Blind

Appearance: Ruarcc is a true giant, tall even for an Ogre. He stands just over 11 feet tall and is lean for his people, only weighing around 1300 lbs. His skin is covered in age spots and the scars of many battles. His right eye is cloudy and his right ear is torn. What hair he has is mostly white although here and there remain some of his original sand colored hair. Although he has the appearance of old age Ruarcc moves with the ease and power of a much younger Ogre. Anyone with much experience quickly recognizes the carriage of a veteran warrior.

He wears a hide belted kilt, fur boots and a great patchwork cloak of furs. His armor is a sleeveless hauberk of hardened auroch leather scales that falls to just above his knees over a sleeveless gambeson of many layers of thin scraped hide, bronze greaves worn over his boots and bronze vambraces. Over his leather armor he wears a dark red (appears black from any distance) metal scale girdle. He also carries a great leather side bag slung over his shoulder full of the simple necessities of a hunter.

He is most often encountered with his two traveling companions. A sow northern bear named Grit (for the noise she makes with her teeth) and Silent a great grey owl (for the noise she doesn’t make). From a distance Grit can appear like a large dog plodding along next to Ruarcc (she “only” weights about 500 lbs).

Weapons: A dark red (appears black from any distance) metal scale kite shield, rune covered claymore (used as a one handed sword), sea elf curved short sword (used as a knife), heavy cavalry spear (used as a hunting spear) and a felling axe (used as a forest axe)

Personality: Ruarcc is an exceptional Ogre in many ways. He relishes combat and will seek out the most dangerous of foes, but he is no berserker, remaining always calm and seemingly detached. He never panics and most would call him level headed. His hatred for Orcs borders on pathological and he has been known to seek them out for “sport”. Everyone else he doesn’t seem to care about either way (even dwarves). He is not the fastest of thinkers but he is not dumb by any races standard. Those who underestimate Ruarcc always pay a heavy price. Those who show him kindness or at least courtesy have made a friend for life, even if that wasn’t there intention or the feeling is not mutual. Although violent by the standards of civilization he is a honorable and fearless warrior who respects courage. He prides himself on never underestimating a foe and he is a master of judging others, both in there combat skill and trustworthiness.

Backstory: Ruarcc was born in a cave high on the side of Scar Mountain. His mother was from a clan famous for there Smashers and his father was a feared Mountain Priest. His father had worked many rituals over his mother while Ruarcc was still in her womb. Unfortunately his mother died in childbirth and he was born sickly, blind in his right eye and deaf in his right ear. But Ruarcc survived, and even thrived as he quickly grew. It was soon evident that he would be tall for his age and leaner than others of his kind. Ruarcc was always strong, but there were always some others of his height that were stronger. Now fully grown Ruarcc is stronger than most, as few can match his great height, but the largest of Crushers are stronger still. If he gives up something in strength, he more than makes up for it in his speed, agility and quickness. In this no living Ogre, or even recent memory can match him. He also has great stamina and heals quickly, he can walk for days at a pace that can match a horse and sleeps little. He learned young that he was different. He needed to compensate for the weakness of his right side senses. And what is left of his sight and hearing are different, special really. He can see the invisible, spirits/ghosts, aura (he can’t really read what it means, but it makes it impossible to hide from him), he sees illusions as mere overlays and knows them for what they are; he knows the undead on sight and can see the aura of enchantments. He knows auditory illusions when he hears them and he can’t be deafened even by great and/or sudden noises and perhaps most importantly he knows a lie when he hears one. When he was still young his father died in an Orc raid. His mother’s clan cast him out as an oddity and for his insult of having killed her.

He became a hunter and an exile, wandering the wilderness far and wide. Teaching himself or learning from others whenever possible. He aided and traded with wilderness villages and trading posts, occasionally working as a caravan guard through the worst wilderness and mountain areas. Over time he earned a reputation as a fierce and powerful warrior, and then the challenges began. Knights and warriors of renown began to seek him out to challenge him to single combat. He has fought many, often against his will. He has never lost. His sight has aided him in acquiring some enchanted items from his many foes; some he has traded over the years only keeping what suited him. Both his swords are enchanted and were acquired from defeated knights (a human and a sea elf). His shield and girdle are an enchanted matching set, gifted to him by a sorcerer he rescued from captivity in a bandit camp. He wears an enchanted silver fox pendant on a raw hide cord under his armor. His armor, although not enchanted is greatly prized as well. It was a gift from The Order of Rangers for aiding them on several occasions during the Rangers’ War. He does not know what the powers of his swords are, but he does know they are enchanted and very though and sharp (most swords he has used in the past end up broken quickly). The sorcerer told him the girdle protects as heavy plate steel and protects its wearer from fire and heat and the shield itself is immune to fire and heat and does not conduct heat; it also protects as heavy plate steel and is nearly indestructible. Ruarcc is not sure what the fox pendant does but it was the first enchanted item he ever encountered (he took it from the first knight who challenged him actually).
He has traveled widely and few can match his skill at arms or his woods lore. He is a master of snares, traps and the reading of sign. His companion Grit has been with him for nearly 5 years and seems to feel the need to protect Ruarcc as if he was one of her long gone cubs. Those getting between Ruarcc and Grit are in a truly bad place. Silent has traveled with them for the last 3 years and seems to have a particular dislike for the undead, always alerting Ruarcc when one is near.

Name: Sir Grisha Orlov, Knight Protector of the Order of Watchers

Age: 27

Nationality: Muskovian

Languages: Fluent in Muskovian and Teutonian (light accent), nearly fluent in Arcadian (heavy accent). Fully literate in all 3 languages.

Appearance: Grisha stands just shy of 6 feet tall and has a heavy build with no extra fat on his scar covered body. His hair is jet black and cropped shoulder length. His eyes are a brilliant green. He favors simple high quality clothing or better yet his armor. He wears mail armor with spot plate protection common to the Muskovian horse archers/skirmishers. Whenever possible he is armed with a knife, dagger, sword and shield. When mounted or expecting combat he will add a composite horse bow and 40 bodkin point arrows.

Background: Grisha’s father was a Teutenion diplomat working in Volgrad. Grisha’s mother (Annushka) was his father’s mistress; she hailed from a tribe of steep nomads east of Volgrad. Grisha was born a bastard, but his father is an honorable man and found work for Annushka at a chapter house of the Order of Watchers, a Religious order devoted to the Goddess of protection Zorja. Grisha has never met his father, and doesn’t even know his name, but on occasion he has received gifts from him at the chapter house. Grish was raised as an adept of the order and trained from birth to be a knight protector. He squired with a traveling knight protector and became a knight himself at the age of 21. Since then he has traveled extensively throughout Muskovia and Teutonia; and some what lesser in Arcadia. He has served as a bodyguard, scout and skirmisher. He owns 2 fine war horses gifted to him by his mothers tribe and is considered an elite horseman. His skill with the composite horse bow is near legendary and he is an excellent knight with the sword and shield as well. He has won several lesser tournaments in both archery contests and the melee. He is skilled with the lance, but doesn’t wear the armor of a heavy horse knight and thus avoids the more prestigious jousts. As all knight protectors Grisha has undergone special training in defending others in all type of circumstances and using his surroundings to his advantage. They also have extensive training in alertness and observation. Grisha is a highly honorable knight and is very devout. When he has accepted a charge to protect someone he will do anything to fulfill that promise including sacrificing himself if necessary. He is currently in Ravensgard planning on entering the archery contest and the melee.

Job: laborer (former Military Scout/Assassin)

Skill set: Specialized in the quick silent kill from surprise, stealth, disarming & setting of traps and observation. High skill level with dagger/knife, short sword, crossbow, breaking & entering, tracking, counter tracking, acrobatics and swimming. Basic skill with most other weapons, riding, first aid and general life skills.

Training Motivation: As long as Madoc has something he feels the need to do, he has a driven personality. Without something to focus on he tends to pick things up slowly and quickly become bored. Currently he is in a bored phase, but slowly becoming interested in the plight of the people in the slums.

Birthplace: The capitol city slums.

Social class: Lower Class, former soldier with some contacts in the army.

What's your characters story: Born to lower class parents, father was a laborer and mother was a seamstress’ assistant. Joined the King’s army at the age of 13, worked his way up to a scout/assassin. Was very good at his job but when he started to get assignments to scout out hideouts of the King’s political enemies within the city he became very uncomfortable. When his last term of service was up (6 months ago) he left the army and returned to the city. He spends most of his time as a laborer, but he also aids the locals as much as possible and keeps an eye out for individuals from his former line of work wandering the slums. He has a small stash of cash, weapons and light armor hidden away from where he is staying. Always carries a knife. His father died 3 years ago and his mother has been very sick for the past year (the reason he gave for leaving the army). He is living with his only sibling, his younger sister Cedwyn and there mother. With his experience in the army and his more recent experiences in the slums he is becoming more and more uncomfortable with the pace of improvement in the slums.

Character Description: Madoc stands about 5’9” tall and of average build. He has short brown hair and beard with light brown eyes. Most consider him unremarkable. He has the hard body of an acrobat and his current job helps to keep him in excellent shape. He dresses as most laborers in looses fitting patched clothing of canvas and leather.

Name: Igni Ronnat

Appearance: Igni stands slightly taller than average at 6’ and has a light build, about 160 pound. He has the medium dark skin of the tropics and it doesn’t seem to darken any even after long hours in the sun. He has dark brown eyes and hair. He is sort of average in appearance, not handsome or ugly. He wears his hair short and can’t really grow a beard.

Bio: Igni is an out going and friendly young man and he seems to make friends easily. He is very loyal and tends to keep his burdens to himself as well as take on the burdens of others. This can sometimes make him seem older than he is.
Igni grew up on a banana plantation in the north of Vedras, in the shadow of Ki’Teer’s Mountain. His parents worked on the plantation and when Igni was old enough he apprenticed to the resident doctor, Margrave. Dr Margrave spent his free time wander the wilds of the area exploring and studying the local flora and fauna. Igni spent many hours with Dr Margrave and learned much from him, both medicine and much about the natural world. Recently Dr Margrave declared Igni ready to go out on his own as a Doctor, but since there was no work in the area Igni decided to travel to Ki’Teer City to look for work. Since arriving in the city Igni has started to have occasional dreams that have startled him and he is quickly growing uncomfortable in the city. He has also come to the conclusion that the food in the city is not as good as it was on the plantation, especially the bananas.

Other: Igni is fairly handy with a spear. The plantation had issues with the local wild pig population and they often hunted them with spears.

Backstory: Celmira was left at an orphanage as a baby. She was adopted by a sect of Mystics and raised as a warrior to act as a protector for them. She has grown into a tall women (5’11”) of exceptional strength, agility and dexterity. She has trained extensively in martial arts (unarmed, staff, knives and improvised weapons), battlefield medicine, acrobatics, observation & occult/supernatural lore. She also has basic skills in survival and plays the flute. Celmira has had very little social interaction outside of her training and rarely speaks to the Mystics themselves. This means she has very poor social skills and feels awkward in any sort of conversation. Her only true friends are a few of the servants. She is intensely loyal to the Mystics as well as her friends, she may take some time to make friends but once made will be very loyal.

Bio – Ateshi is the youngest of 6 children in one of the few noble families in the mountains of the north. At the age of 8 she showed a gift for working with fire and was sent off to study Pyromancy, where she excelled. In her free time she has developed a love of the outdoors and when she came of age and went out on her own she picked up archery from one of her potential suitors. She has never found anyone that could handle her fiery disposition for very long and remains unwed. She has a very adventurous spirit and is as fearless as she is fiery.

Story – The clip-clop of the horses hooves and the creaking of the wagon were the only noise on the road this sunny summer day. The merchant had lucked out and picked up a paying passenger for his journey through the Great Woods, an obviously well off young Lady named Ateshi. They were accompanied by his two mercenary guards, veterans of many a trip.
The attack came out of nowhere with no warning. The first hint of danger was the snap of crossbow strings followed closely by the thudding home of multiple bolts into the guards. Both stumbled a few steps and collapsed. The merchant began to scream about ransom and in a single fluid motion the young Lady raised her hands and after a single ancient word passed her lips a startling bolt of blue flame leaped out and struck one of the Brigands, leaping to the next closest Brigand as Ateshi controlled its captivating dance like a puppet master. As the flame leaped from Brigand to Brigand it left the previous Brigand engulfed in flame. In just a few seconds all was quite except for the crackling of fire and nervous fidgeting of the horses. Ateshi looked about carefully, made sure everyone was dead and tried her best to calm the merchant down. It looked like this might be more exciting than she had thought.

Bio: Born in the Northern Mountains, Edryd’s mother and aunt were both witches. Edryd’s mother died when he was very young (before he can remember anything about her) and his aunt sent him off to be raised at a school for healers in one of the larger cities in the North. He would return to stay with and visit with his aunt every fall after harvest season was over. When young he met and became a close friend and the occasional lover of Ateshi’s older sister Nibreal. He considers Ateshi his “sister-in-law”, even if he wouldn’t be allowed to marry Nibreal. Edryd is a skilled healer, physician and herbalist with just a touch of skill at witchcraft. He also has some skill with knives, but is not a master warrior by any means.

Story: Edryd looked out across the field before him, the battle had ended nearly an hour before and the carrion eaters were starting to settle in to their work. Edryd already felt tired, he had been treating the injured and dying since the battle began hours before. He had exhausted his “healing ability” long ago and was down to the treatments that took much longer and weren’t as reliable, but it was all most would get and was far better than no treatment at all. “Soon”, Edryd thought, “my term with the army as a battle healer would be up, then he would move on to other things.” As he pulled himself up by his staff he noticed a hungry looking wolf sulking towards a dying soldier, “scram beast, at least have the decency to eat the dead and leave the living alone” Edryd hollered as he wearily moved towards the soldier to see what could be done to save him.
