You feel the excitement welling up inside of you as the island comes into view. The lush green of the island and light greys of the buildings contrasted nicely with the reds of the evening light and blues of the ocean waves. It was a beautiful sight, and one you would be a part for an entire week. In your mailbox just a few mornings ago was a letter and a ticket, inviting you to spend an entire week on the resort island, all-expenses paid. There was no explanation, but it seemed to you like the letters were distributed at random, and you were just a lucky winner. Regardless, it was not an opportunity to pass up.

The boat docked at a long dock made of light wood, perfectly treated and well preserved. A young man or woman, dark and handsome and dressed all in whites, bows to you and offers to take your bags in a thick islander accent. He leads you off the dock and up a winding pathway to a large building overlooking the beach. Taking you to your room, marked with your name, he sets the bags down and bows once more before leaving. Despite the excitement, you seem rather tired from the long trip overseas. You lay your head down to rest and quickly fall into a deep sleep.

You awaken to a thick fog creeping in through the window, and as you look around your room, even in dark morning light, you can tell this was not the same place you had fallen asleep. The bed you are laying in is dusty and in shambles, wooden splinters and raggedy cloth sticking out every which way. The room is filled with shattered and broken furniture, and the very walls and ceilings are falling apart. In every corner of the room, scavengers skitter about and large cobwebs claim the shadows.

As you leave your room, you realize the entire building looks like it has been abandoned for many years, and looking out the window you find the island to look much the same. There are no signs of life out there, only the fog gripping a crumbling and abandoned little resort. Through the fog you eye the docks, crumbled and half sunken, and not a boat in sight. As the panic begins to fill you, you hear the sounds of others awakening in other rooms, equally confused and just as afraid as you. You almost feel safer as you sigh in relief… until you hear the mist replying back.

Though when she was finally accepted into Homicide, her significant other was brutally murdered during a drug bust. Ever since, she’s dedicated herself to both her family and work, keeping a distance from any potential romances.

Background: The daughter of vintners, from a young age Camille rejected their agrarian lifestyle in favor of modernity. She was a gifted student, taking to academics with a passion almost regardless of subject. When a financial windfall in the form of a deceased grandparent fell in her family's lap and visions of Oxford in her head, there was no doubt in anyone's mind where she was headed.

But then something strange happened. Much has been written about the relative merits of opposed segments of fence-separated grasses, and the realization of her childhood dream left Camille strangely disappointed. This was Oxford! Another country entirely! It was hard to imagine a place further from some rural French farm, and yet Camille graduated with a sense of ennui more than accomplishment. She returned home.

Oh, it was only temporary, she said - a semester to herself before going onto graduate school. Her parents were happy to have her back, and she was pleasantly surprised by how much she actually enjoyed helping with the vines.

Self-discovery had its way with her. After the stress of academia, she found the return to a simple agrarian lifestyle pleasantly relaxing. She had time to herself now, and with the maxims of a junior-year fine arts professor in mind, she revisited a novel she'd started in freshman year. Months turned to a year, then two; she found work as a cybersecurity consultant, and published to surprising critical acclaim.

Encouraged, she's turned her attentions to a sequel...

Well, yes and no. This isn't 1950's Call of Cthulhu; this is the modern real-world. You can have a degree in History, Religion, Crytozoology, or any other similar real-world degree that could be played out as "occult" knowledge. Whatever you choose though, you still aren't really going to know what is happening on the island any more than anyone else, and it isn't going to save you any Sanity. And you most certainly have not seen anything even remotely like it before. You may get an occasional clue on the very rare occasion that no one gets, but that's about it.

Background: Robinson was born and raised in the Englewood area, one of the most dangerous neighborhoods on Chicago's South Side. He is the youngest son of Brenda Rose after Byron-Peter "BP", Kyle, and Leonard. All three were talented basketball players who taught him the in and outs of basketball on nearby courts. As his talent for the sport grew, Michael began to attract much more outside attention in Chicago's basketball circles, leading his mother and brothers to restrict outside contact to him. She feared he would be exploited and his path to the NBA diverted by outside parties like street agents.

Still, this didn't stop what some would consider to be a "monster" highschool basketball career. He went on to win many awards from his sophomore year and up, including 1st team All American, 2 championships, and MVP for his last 2 years. Though, it was around that same time, that his family moved to a different house as they had been evicted from their original home due to late payments. The house that they moved into during his first year of highschool, scarred Michael terribly as he strongly believes that it was a haunted house.

For a while, it didn't seem like there was too much wrong with the place, until after he and his older brother Kyle discovered a certain door in the attic. When they opened it up, they found some old portraits of people that lived their long before they had. It freaked the brothers out but they didn't think too much of it at first. Nothing happened though, as they expected other than the powerful feeling that Michael got at night, that he was being watched. One night, the feeling was strong enough where, he couldn't sleep. He heard his mother call him from downstairs and so he went down to see what she wanted.

It was that same night that the house next to them had caught fire as he noticed out the window, to which he called the fire department. He never heard why it did, but didn't believe it to just be some kind of coincidence. It was also afterwards, to this day that his mother told him, that she had never called him that night, as she herself was sleeping around that time in her own room.

Thankfully, they moved from there about a week or so afterwards after his mother had found a better place but it always stuck out in his mind to be the question: If it wasn't his mother who called him that night, then who was it? It created a click in his mind that spiraled into a fear as he aged. He also used that feeling that he had of being watched as a sort of gauge if he feels like he's entering into a situation that doesn't seem right. If he doesn't feel it, then he can find assurance.

It was after that period that he moved on with his basketball career, deciding to remain and represent his home city of Chicago by remaining in Illinois. He made it to the first team all american, and brought his team to one championship in his first year playing college basketball. Though now, while in the off season, he got a letter and a ticket to go to some island resort. He was pretty sure this was a scam, but after talking some with his older brother Leonard, he was convinced to go check it out.

Background: If you were to ask Sofia what her earliest childhood memory was she would tense up, her hands would become clammy and a wave of cold would wash over her. For some reason she can't think of anything earlier than the worst day of her life.

Life was going great for the Marvin’s; Sofia’s soccer team just won their last game, her father got promoted and her mother’s baking business was finally taking out. It felt like nothing could knock them off the wave they were riding. They were driving home from her game and discussing her upcoming birthday party, Sofia was turning the big one, three! Her parents were going all out with an awesome 70’s theme, they rented out the roller rink and bought their daughter loads of gifts. They didn’t mind spoiling Sofia since she was such a good kid, she did her chores, got good grades and was so well behaved.

“Okay, Sofia, we are coming up on the bridge! Close your eyes and we’ll let you know when we are off,” Her father instructed her as the car pulled onto the bridge. It was Sofia’s least favorite part about taking this route home, the bridge went over a lake and people were always driving so recklessly. Sofia slouched down in her seat and shut her eyes tightly as she listened to her parents talk about all the plans they had for her party.

“Dave! Dave!” Her mother was practically screaming her dad’s name when she saw a little red sports car shoot out from behind the semi and enter their lane with the intention of passing the slow semi, Sofia opened her eyes and gasped as the car was coming closer and closer to them. Her dad slammed on the brakes and laid on his horn, but it wasn’t enough. The little sports car was just about to move back into its own lane when it clipped the side of Sofia’s car, causing them to spin out of control and crash through the guard rail. All Sofia could hear as they fell to the lake was her mother screaming that she loved them, her father glanced back at her and they locked eyes just before they slammed into the lake.

Sofia woke up to the car under water, both her parents unconscious and water up to her waist with the water level rising quickly. She managed to get her seatbelt undone and she reached for her parents, shaking them to try and get them to wake up…but they weren’t. Sofia tried to open the door but it wouldn’t budge, she was trapped and helpless. Before she knew it the water was over her head and she was struggling to hold her breath. It was like her body couldn’t hold it in anymore and she gasped for air, only to meet the burning pain of sucking in water. Then, everything went black.

Thankfully, Sofia and her mother survived the accident, but her father was not so lucky. The small family became even smaller that day and they would never be the same again.

Life carried on the best it could for the two broken women. Eventually Sofia’s mother remarried but she constantly battled heavy depression, and she ended up taking her own life shortly after Sofia graduated college. Sofia decided to grasp life by the horns and not waste a single second, even if that meant forcing herself to be happy at times. She went on to find joy in fashion and pushed herself to succeed in school.

Now, Sofia is a thriving business woman who owns her own small company. If everything continues to go well with her company she plans on reopening her mothers bakery in her honor. Her stepfather is still apart of her life and she is thankful to have him, but she still struggles from time to time knowing her parents are not apart of her life anymore. Sofia lives her life in a way that would make her parents proud and she knows they are still with her.

Background: Tolbert has had a rough life. He was born in a small town in the mountains of West Virginia to drug addict parents. Tolbert is the oldest of 5 kids, 3 brothers and a sister. His mother was distant, just doing the minimum to keep her kids alive. And often even that was a stretch for her. His father had a mean streak when he drank, which was most days. Tolbert, being the oldest, took the brunt of that anger. Anger that manifested itself in any number of tortures: cigarette butts, fists, belts, choking, wrenches, and even cuts from knives on special days. When not getting beaten at home, Tolbert was trying to help provide for his siblings even from a young age. He would steal what he could from who he could. This led to him being in trouble constantly and eventually expelled from school in the 8th grade. His siblings didn’t fare any better and often worse. He tried sheltering them, but he was just a boy. For Tolbert, childhood was something to be survived. He does not look on it with fond memories. He looks at it as a time where he was weak, which disgusts him.

After getting expelled, Tolbert followed the only path he saw. He began working for a local small time meth cooker as a runner. As he got older and bigger, his reputation as a mean son-of-a-bitch began to grow as well. People feared him and those that didn’t fear him respected him. He moved his way up in the local drug world until a big time dealer named Hugo in Miami was passed his name. So Tolbert went to work for Hugo as an Enforcer. If you didn’t pay, Tolbert would pay you a visit. That turned out to be pretty good motivation for the debtors. Tolbert got good at that job. He knew where, how hard, and how many times to hit someone to inflict the correct message.

Eventually this led him to working on more important tasks in addition to the average loan collections. A lot of times this included torturing information from rivals. Tolbert became very proficient with a whole new set of tools in this line of work. It was like an art form for him: he saw beauty in it. Beauty was not something that Tolbert saw in life.

Thanks to his skill, Tolbert became an important and well paid person within Hugo’s organization. Tolbert began to dress better with expensive clothes, drive nice cars, and live in fancy homes. He was practically happy, even when the work got bloody. He managed to save enough money to help his siblings out where he could: paying for school for his sister, bailing out a brother, loaning money to one for a restaurant. His luck had turned and then he got a notification that he won a nice vacation. Tolbert thought on the asshole of a father that he was named after and smiled. He didn’t even have to imagine dismembering him.

Background: Kelly grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, not much of a troublemaker, studious and friendly. He had a very close knit group of friends. Not all of them shared his aptitude for staying out of trouble. He was always there to back them up though. Even if it meant a few fist fights. He took a beating or two, and laid down his own more than once.

Growing beyond that, though, he was able to get a full ride scholarship to go to Northwestern University. He studied biochemistry, and from there was able to get his medical degree from the University of Chicago School of Medicine. He was never one for excitement though. And going up into the tall buildings of the city made him nervous. After getting through his residency at some smaller hospitals in Northwest Indiana. He missed his home city though, and took a job as a Medical Examiner in Christ Hospital just outside of Chicago. The accommodations were on the first floor, and he had great hours. It allowed him to spend a lot of time with his girlfriend, Noel, that he met during his residency. She is a maternity nurse in the hospital where they met still.

After saving up for over a year, he finally built up the courage to buy a ring and propose. He even fought with his own fears and proposed to her at one of her favorite rooftop restaurants in the city, that she really only went to with her friends, as Kelly couldn't normally stand to be there for a whole meal. He may have been too nervous or the ring wasn't right or he just wasn't the one meant to make her happy the rest of her life. She rejected his proposal and it left him spinning and falling further than he could have ever expected. He needed an escort out of the restaurant after he became so nervous, he ended up laying on the ground. He broke the nose of one escorts, in a panic, and faced some fines because of this, but nothing more became of it.

After recently having his heart broken by the girl of his dreams, rejected when he asked her to marry him, he was a little less than enthusiastic to go on a tropical vacation all by himself. His friends encouraged him though. “It will help you forget all about her!,” they would say. “Just think about the possibilities. Everyone there is going to be wearing almost nothing,” nudging him. Eventually he gave in.

Yeah, it is a good pace. I hope my absence didn't scare anyone away. Work changed up my schedule last minute and then there was school work and also holidays. Ugh. Anyhow, everything is cleared up now and I shouldn't be taking any weird absences for a good while.

I have my character's death planned (unless you decide how we die) and he is not going to be having an open casket funeral afterwards. Or a casket for that matter.

Well the fog cleared, so you can acknowledge that, even the fact the morning was beautiful. There are two people talking about what to do, so you could put your two cents in. There is also two people in the hallway, one we didn't see before so there's something you can acknowledge as well, oh and Fable just shoved another person in the room. Also there is always the option of slight movements and thoughts until you know what to do, that way you don't get lost with those who post often.

Still here, just DROWNING. School is so intense this semester I didn't even see it coming, I'm taking FEWER classes than last semester and I feel like I'm taking more. I'm behind in things in RL because school takes up all of my time, so RPA is on the back burner at the moment.

I still want to be apart of this very RP very, very much. I'm just struggling to find a free moment and when I do I literally just sit in a bubble bath or talk to my husband (who just got extended on his deployment, yay -.-). I'm sorry I have disappeared, RL just loooooves to kick my ass. My professors have told me that after midterms (next week) things should be slowing down and I pray that it's true lol.
