October the Eleventh, Eighteen Forty-Nine

It has been three days since the funeral. Still I am in shock. The procession was a simple one, and hardly anyone gathered to pay respects. There was not even a headstone to mark his grave. Unfitting for such an inspired man.

Even in my grief, I must prepare for the proceedings in the coming weeks. No doubt word of his passing has spread amongst our brethren, but All Hallow's Eve is a time of joy. It need not be marred with tears and sorrow. It is a night of celebration, when all our kin may meet in peace. I hear there shall be even more guests than ever before. Just the thought of it fills my soul with anticipation.

I wish you could be here to see this, my love.




THE PLOT

So if you didn't pick up on the references, this is going to be a spooky, Halloween-themed, Edgar Allan Poe inspired RP. Your character, one of the many supernatural creatures in hiding throughout 19th-century America, has received word of a gathering in Baltimore, Maryland, on the night of All Hallows Eve. It is a gathering of the creatures of the night, whether fey, spirit, undead, or anything in between. A celebration of the supernatural, and a place to relax from the scrutiny of mortal eyes.

But as you arrive at your host's mansion, the site of the entertainment, the evening begins to take a dark turn. Guests begin to go missing, and whispers of deviance and thievery spread amongst the party-goers. Will the celebration be disturbed by unseen forces, or will the mystery be solved before the night's end?


Here is a list I've compiled of all of the humanoid supernatural creatures and races that may dwell in the shadows. If you do not see your desired race on this list, let me know, and 99% of the time I will be glad to add it. Keep in mind that this RP is inspired by the writings of Poe, and as such I'd prefer if your characters keep with the Gothic theme.

Not all creatures are on friendly relations with one another. In particular, vampires and werewolves share an ancient hostility. Demons are scrutinized, being the agents of hell that they are, and most go out of their way to avoid them. Feel free to make up your own racial biases for whatever race you choose.



1. All RPA rules apply, as you know already.
2. I would like only ONE member of a species each, please, to allow for a greater diversity in the cast. If you simply must play the same creature as someone else, PM me and we will discuss options.
3. Since this is inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe, I would prefer if you attempted to stick to his Victorian/Gothic themes when creating your characters. Obviously be as creative as you like, but keep Poe in mind.
4. There will be no minimum or maximum number of posts in a certain time frame, but please try to notify me if you will be absent for very long.
5. Have fun and go wild! This RP will be mostly sandbox within the mansion, aside from the mystery plot points, so feel free to explore and interact with one another!

Name: Self-explanatory.
Age: Most of you will be playing immortal creatures, so you may be as old as you'd like.
Race: Defer to the list above.
Appearance: Photo or description, preferably both. Remember that we're in the mid 1800s here, so no modern clothing. Also keep in mind that this is a pretty formal event.
Personality: Very brief description of how your character behaves. This needn't be more than a sentence or two, as I find it much more fun to discover the character's personality through their IC actions.
Skills: A general description of what your character is good at. Can they paint, are they good at solving puzzles, etc. Up to four, please.
Other: Anything else you may want to add about your character.

Personality:
Nevermore, like all ravens, is a curious and clever fellow. He adores puzzles and mind games, anything that makes him test his brain. He has a bit of an ego, and does take pride in himself for everything he does. But he is kind and patient, and thrives in the company of others.
Skills:
He is, as mentioned before, very good at solving riddles and other mental challenges. He is also a novice writer, and enjoys drafting poems in his spare time (whether they are good or not, that is up for debate).

Age: 57, though she'll never admit it and you'd never guess.
Race: nymph

Personality: Like most nymphs, Albina has a mischievous streak, but she generally exhibits a gentle and sunny disposition. The pranks and tricks she plays on humans are never harmful. They mostly serve as a means to distract anyone and everyone who passes through her neck of the woods in order to lead them away from her tree.
Skills: Green Thumb: Albina is a natural gardener, and any plant she tends to is sure to thrive. Woody Doppelganger: She can also transform into a replica of her soul tree. This does not teleport her tree, but merely imitates it to serve as a disguise. (I point this out because actual transportation of the tree would be way too overpowered.) Sparrowtongue: Nymphs can communicate with all living entities (plants included), but animals are the only mortal creatures nymphs trust. While Albina avoids humans, she often works with animals and can request favors of them--especially birds.
Other: Her name, which literally means "white oak," is a reference to her soul tree. She is bound to this tree and can only leave it temporarily. Nymphs typically remain close to their soul trees in order to guard them, because any damage to the tree will likely kill its nymph.

It's so difficult to choose a favorite POEm, but "A Dream Within a Dream" is an excellent candidate.

Despite appearances, Hollis is a woman. She prefers menswear and short hair in human form as they provide greater mobility and practicality. As a human, her hair is gunmetal grey with sparse strands of white throughout, and her eyes are a light blue-grey. In monster form she is about 8' 6", in human form she is about 5' 10".

Personality: Hollis is a little on the stoic, brooding side. She doesn't like speaking very much and is extremely security conscious. She rarely smiles and never lets her guard down.

Skills: She is particularly observant of her surroundings, noticing details most people overlook. She also is incredibly strong, capable of deadlifting about 1,500 pounds and pulling carts weighing up to 4,000 pounds, regardless of the form she takes. She enjoys knitting, and can whip up a scarf in about 20 minutes.

Other: Hollis is secretly a sucker for romantic poetry and literature. She used to be quite the daydreamer. She speaks with a slight French accent.

She's striking this one, that much is for sure.

Standing at around 5'9'', Abebi's a tall skinny thing in truth. Brown sun soaked skin is relatively flawless, save for a few darting scars dotted here and there. Her hair seems to be as wild and untamed as her soul, sprouting out and around in a magnificent mane of sorts. But it's the features that really grab your attention. She's pretty enough I suppose, but something unplaceable and distinct simply draws you into her. People find that they either can't take their eyes off of her, or to look at her brings about one of the most uncomfortable and uneasy sensations they've ever felt.

Personality: The girl's as loud and colourful as you'd expect honestly. Talkative and confident, yet still possessing an air of mystery that you'd expect from a witch I suppose.

Skills: She knows most all basic spells and jinxes as any good witch should, plus a few interesting creations of her own. Otherwise she's good with concoctions and other apothecary-like conjurings. And to top it all off she plays the piano too.

I think Eldorado's pretty cool honestly. The film as well :)

When appearing in this form, he usually stands upright on his back legs like a human and is able to maintain the clothing he is currently wearing. His hands are still somewhat humanoid. Though, if he wants to, he can further transform into an actual wolf and go on all fours, shredding his clothes. His voice sounds human in this form.

In this form, he transforms into a raven that is only slightly larger than regular ravens. His voice is the same as in his human or wolf form, which tends to unsettle people.

When transforming into the Wendigo, Hyde stands at an intimidating 6'8'', standing upright like a human. His body turns into a disgusting mess (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/powerlisting/images/3/32/Wendigo1.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120213141914), with long arms and enormous claws. His head, as seen in the image, becomes a skull with two broken buck antlers. In this form, his voice is deep and demonic,
sounding like something straight out of hell.

(Hyde can also shift into other animals, but the forms above are the only ones in which he is able to talk and also the only forms he can sustain for long periods of time. He usually only uses other animal forms as forms of entertainment, such as briefly turning his mouth into that of a chicken or his hand into a hoof.)

Personality: Hyde is very suave, cool and collected - which people often do not expect when admiring his physique. He only loses his temper when hungry (don't we all) and resorts to violence only when needed. He's very arrogant, taking pride in the fact that he has terrorized the world for nearly 700 years. He almost never appears in his human form, and usually only tends to do so when he is wounded or tired. Scaring him might also have the rather humorous effect of him jumping into his human form.
Skills: Hyde is an excellent writer and composer. He has composed over a hundred compositions on multiple instruments. He's also a rather good swimmer.
Other: He's a smoker and occasionally snorts cocaine.

Her skin is a pasty grey, thin lines of blue running under the surface throughout. Despite her age, she has held together well, her flesh patchy and missing in only a few unseen areas. Clinging to her is a faint aroma of flowers and earth.

In the glow of his growing stomach, a beautiful man covers himself in loose robes of black which so easily conceal or reveal his body. With simple pulls of fabric, his hauntingly pale skin may be hidden, though often the blood colored warmth of his womb is a relaxing and drawing view for the otherworldly. The Perverted Mother has an unusual ascetic about him, a picturesque face and deep wine-colored eyes unnerve, confuse, and enchant those who observe him. Lengthy black hair spills past his feet, a silk train following his every labored step. Rosemario is a 5’7” man who has become extraordinary with what develops inside of him.

Personality:

Rosemario loves dark places and abhors the general world. Having spent the greater part of the year in seclusion while he holds the Unholy Child, he has learned that he is lonely and wants to understand first hand more of the creatures that exist outside of his cult. He holds himself of someone of great importance, a bringer of a new age and at times lacks the perception to see himself in any way unwanted or irritating to company.

Hell-hormones rush through Rosemario, making his judgments emotional and odd. He may want hugs or reassurance, and lacks any sense of personal space to feel personally violated unless they are of the ‘normal’. He waits patiently for the father of his unborn child to reveal himself, and loves the baby inside of him.

He has a desire of meaty foods and enjoys soaking his stomach with blood to comfort the baby. He is a cultist and wishes to see the world converted into a monument of the demonic.

Skills:

Perverse tongue – Rosemario’s soft-spoken words have a way of compelling others to listen. His voice has been said to be weak, yet melodic.

Haggling – From his young days in Italy as a lad he had learned how to haggle the merchants.

Blind faith – Rosemario has a naive way of putting his trust in the dark and corrupted forces of this world. Because of his Radiance*(see below) the combination of influences tends to win them over to liking him or at least leaving him alone. Rosemario can ‘luckily’ avoid many terrible deaths from horrible figures thanks to this gifted and unintentionally used charismatic swirl.

However, for those who are not ‘evil’ or demonic aligned, the two elements can come together to make him grossly disliked and stigmatized.

Other:

Rosemario is carrying the perverse child of an undisclosed Dark Lord. Conceived in perversion, there is a woeful radiance* about the womb which can instill a sense of terrifying dark power nestling inside and promising those whomever disturb this birth a darkness unimaginable from the father. The magically sensitive and otherworldly can sense this.

Rosemario’s baby requires sustenance, which requires Rosemario to feast on the bodily fluids of dark and evil entities.

Rosemario is a head figure of a cult, this once mere mortal has been selected and changed – becoming the figure seen now by the magic from within his body warping him.

It's such a cool place to work that most of us do it for free! XD I get paid to be a lifeguard and teach swim lessons. The nature center is my refuge. <3 Us volunteers put on a couple events, including this un-haunted house, every year. It's my first year as a character and I've really been enjoying it.

I'm sorry for the delay in my post! I recently started a new job, and part of my duties include creating lesson plans for an academic-based club for middle-schoolers. I convinced my boss that I can make an anime club academic by incorporating history/culture lessons, character/plot analysis, and exploring different genres. The kids and I are stoked that she agreed to it, but now I've gotta fine-tune my lesson plans to deliver something that pleases both my students and my boss. I'm also running a creative writing club, which is at least much easier to set up.

I'm not dropping out, I promise! I just might be a little slow with my replies until I have my clubs all set up, so if anyone's waiting for me, please go ahead. I'll try my best to get a post up tonight when I get home from work. I've already been thinking about what to do with Albina and have a general idea of what to write later.
