SHADOW WALKERS OOC (M) (1x1 with Kiro Akira and Bluemoon)

In the year 2025, a breakthrough in medicine allowed doctors to reverse the effects of major trauma with an engineered enzyme that promoted healing. With only a twenty-four hour life span, the enzyme caused rapid reconstruction of tissue, knitting fibers together, then leaving the body through the blood stream. It was a perfect innovation...at least until the enzyme mutated in the body of a victim that died shortly after the injection. It was then that the enzyme changed, attacking the dead cells and transforming the body into a vessel of destruction. With a insatiable craving for blood, the first infected spread its disease by consuming the blood of others and then transferring the enhanced enzyme via oral ingestion. Death caused the changes and the plague spread quickly as humans were drained of their life force.

Now the world belongs to the Shadow Walkers, a vampire-like race of beings that have spread their blood-craving disease among the human population. An apocalyptic wasteland, the good ol' U.S.A. is nothing more than a hunting ground for the fanged beasts. Small populations of humans exist, but most serve the vamps...scouting for survivors, providing blood-collection bars, and protecting them during daylight hours. It's the only way to survive without being on the menu. But there are also underground resistance groups that still fight to destroy the abominations. It doesn't take much: removal of the head, destruction of the heart, or cremation by fire. But their numbers are increasing and the land is fouled by their stench. One queen holds them together with her hive mind--she is the first. She controls and communicates with the thinkers, the drones, and the beasts--all vampires but with varying levels of intelligence. The only ones she doesn't control are the hybrids, a rare form of human/vampire mix that were birthed from an infected human mother late in her pregnancy. It is time to bring the fight to the queen.

I was thinking we could go with modern times, but with very little modern tech available due to the collapse of humanity. Of course, we can hash this out and decide what we want to have in regards to weapons and such.

I will get a character sheet up a little later--probably this weekend. I plan to have my girl live with a renegade group underground (think subway system). I am still working on her history, but I have a few things in mind.

As for the vampires, I thought they could be of the traditional type with a few exceptions. Here are some of my ideas--feel free to add or subtract as desired.

-come out only at night
-avoid sunlight
-no problems with garlic or moving water
-religious symbols have no effect

Another idea: After the vampires drink almost all of the victims blood, they force them to consume theirs which causes the change to occur after death. But, if a person survives the attack, the vampire blood, which they were forced to consume, has no effect, other than the original enzyme's healing effect. Only death results in a new vampire.

Vampire types:

Thinker: The most intelligent vampire other than the queen. Typically follows orders, but with creative changes. It enjoys the hunt, the feed, and the kill--tends to make a game of the chase. Speaks well.

Drone: Vampire that follows the queen's directives without any variation--very loyal to her. Speaks in broken sentences--monotone-like.

Beast: Blood-crazed vampire with little thought other than to kill. It is reckless and very dangerous. Grunts and groans--very few words.

Day Walkers: Immune to the rays of the sun. Doesn't require sleep and feeds off any creature they get their hands on.

Scouters: Very quick and very loyal to the den leader. Speaks very few words and will observe rather then attack. Often found drinking from small animals such as rabbits, as their fangs are smaller then usual.

Mind Crusher: Seductive type, often the ones who bring humans to the lairs as a gaze into their eyes lock one in a trance where they bid to the will of the vampire.


The Elder: One of the rare kinds often found in the vampire universe. As these are the ones where stories adapted from. Garlic affects their blood causing it to boil, and crosses leave them powerless. Yet they are also said to be some of the strongest known in the world. Super strength, super speed, and mesmeric vision.

Very nice--we can add those to the mix. I would like to add something to the Elder variety so they are distinguishable from the others--perhaps they can have an ancient look about them?

Age: 24

Race: Human

Appearance: Raven has large piercing blue eyes framed by an unruly mop of long black hair. She is thin, almost anorexic, but toned, with surprising strength for her size. Standing at only 5' 4" she uses her smaller stature to its full potential.

Scars/markings: Raven has multiple scars on her body from her numerous dealings with the vamps. Her most notable scar is on her neck from a childhood attack. She also has a branding on the inside of her right wrist (circle with an "X" in the center) that she keeps covered with a leather band.

Personality: Raven is cat-like, nervous and quirky, and she rarely sits still. She has a quick temper that quickly dissipates, making her seem very moody. She rarely forms bonds, but once she does, she is a devoted ally.

Clothing: Raven dresses mostly in black to blend with the darkness of night. The only exception to this is a thin red scarf which she wraps around her neck or head. Torn black jeans, a black T, black hoody, and black lace-up boots are her typical style. She also wears a leather band/bracelet on her right wrist.

Weapons: Weapons will change with availability, but she always carries a large knife, sharpened stakes, sling shot, cross, and holy water.

Belongings: Raven travels light when she is hunting. She sports a backpack that carries a few days worth of food, water and fire-lighting supplies. She also has a first aid kit with varied contents, rope, and duct tape. Personal items which she keeps in her various pockets include a small polished blue stone, a folded and faded photo of her parents, and a rusty key.

History: It was pre-dawn, the sky more a deep azure than black, when a teen-aged young man entered a dimly lit barn that was set up as a home for a family of three. He had been drawn to the light, but instead of a greeting, he received horror. The two adults were lying prone, their bodies drained, and a young child of five was in the arms of a beastly vamp as it sucked and chewed at her neck with reckless abandon. The home smelled of blood, the dirt floor flecked with the precious liquid, very little gone to waste. With it's attention focused on it's meal, the vamp was easy enough to kill and the young man wasted no time in doing so.

It was on this day that Rowan met the girl he came to know as Raven, named for her long locks of ebony hair. She was struggling for breath, only seconds away from death when he saved her. Unsure of her fate, he fed her the blood of her attacker and bandaged her wound, waiting for fate to decide if she would live or die. The tainted blood healed her wound, leaving a horrendous scar, but the memory of the event was scoured from her innocent mind. Within a few days, she was back on her feet, her parents and her attacker forgotten. Rowan was her new family, her brother, her protector.

So it was over the years that followed. He raised her, trained her, and kept her safe...or as safe as one could in those dark times. He managed to gather a small following and they trained in hand-to-hand combat and fought the vamps as they travelled from one safe place to another. Raven became his right hand "man", a strong fighter, although her real talent was procuring goods--mostly food for the small group. She was often gone for several days, but always managed to bring back something to keep them going. She never asked about her past, but carried a few things from it: a picture of her parents that Rowan had found and given her, an unknown key that she had been holding when he rescued her, and a small blue stone that she had taken from the dead vamps person.

Unknown to Rowan, Raven also spent time at collection bars, giving blood in exchange for different items. She has taken a liking to vamp blood, finding it's healing properties rather exhilarating. Her brand identifies her as a donor and keeps her safe from the higher intellect parasites, but it also marks her as a quick and easy "light" meal. Due to this, she hides the mark with a thick leather band.

Strengths: Very agile, good stamina, strong for her size, very loyal to friends

Weaknesses: Quick temper, stubborn, anxiety issues, claustrophobia

Likes: Chocolate, open spaces, the night sky

Dislikes: Vamps, Hybrids, children

Personality:
Lives life literally on the edge. As many things won't kill him he takes full advantage of it and utilizes it. This being said he can care less and enjoys his life as much as possible. He loves to have fun and gets a thrill out of playing god so to speak. Yet while he enjoys the rush and impressing people, he falls short of making to many friends as he is likely to outlive most of them. And the few vampire friends he's kept around has either been killed or doesn't speak to him much due to his half breed nature. He also aims to protect humans to the best of his ability being sure most don't become dinner for the rest of the beasts he calls family.

Light to travel, often wearing nothing more then a black hoodie, with the swords concealed underneath it. His pants are loose fitted jeans, in which he keeps a small dagger in a leg holster. In his right back pocket he holds a small knife in which he keeps on him in case he loses all other options. Only other noteable things is a backpack in which he keeps filled with blood packets (B- is the tastiest)

History:
My story dates back to the 12th century of the 5th year of the 96th day. On this day, a history was skipped for now.

Can dwell in sunlight as long as he has drank enough blood that previous night

Only needs to sleep once every six days

Vision is much similar to a hawks as he can see far ranged

Very nice! He is very vampire-like which will definitely cause some tension (which is always fun). :D I still have to finish mine up--mostly the history--which I hope to get to this weekend--then we can start.

Also, the brand on Raven's right wrist is a circle with an "X" in its center. It is a donor mark.

Ghouls: Ghouls are a uncommon race.

Often when injected with blood of a vampire they get a 'high' as one would as if they were on heroine or another drug. These ghouls, are given limited powers similiar to a hybrid for short periods of time until the blood runsnits cpurse through the system. They are lefr super weak afterwards and often pass out when the blood runs out.
