I'm also doing a covert character.

I was in n rp once where someone played like, a psyker swordman as part of retinue, nd I am doing something similar, but fusing it with a death cult assassin base.

A psyker who trained as a swordsman is fair enough, but I feel that a psychic death cultist would be very unusual...unless, maybe, it was a very low-level “sixth sense” kind of power (say, for detecting enemies or instinctive dodging) that the user themself might not even be consciously aware of.

I am away on holiday today until Sunday - I will look at posting the recruitment threads when I get back (that should give us a few weeks to iron things out before breaking for Christmas and starting the ICs in the new year). Until then, let me know if you have any questions about mechanics etc.

Yeah, if they’re an active enough psychic that they can use a force weapon, they wouldn’t be a death cultist. They’d have been snapped up by the Black Ships.

Unfortunately the inquisitor you’ll be working for has a noted dislike of blanks. You could submit a Patriot blank though, or even feature a minor-character blank among your ground force (probably not an officer though - since people tend to hate blanks so much, I couldn’t see them getting many promotions).

It didn't work out so well for the character in question after their psychic nature was finally reported.

I have noticed that Dan Abnett (and a few other writers) tend to "top load" the psychic scale rather a lot. I mean, the Assignment (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/The_Assignment) lists baseline, non-psychic humans as Rho or Pi, which gives fourteen possible psychic grades between there and Alpha, and yet Alphas and Betas (and occasionally Gammas and Deltas) are pretty much all we ever hear about. I've generally considered Ella (https://role-player.net/forum/showthread.php?t=40254&page=2&p=1340101&viewfull=1#post1340101) to be an Iota level, maybe creeping into Theta since she has gained some atypical powers for an astropath, such as channelling a force weapon.

There will be little interludes between battles where colonels and captains can do stuff, but if you want to create a whole storyline about a character doing something other than fighting, then it can go in this section of the board.

The Imperials’ plan is to secure a drop zone on Baraspine, muster up, and then assault the capital hive. Navy forces are tasked with capturing the planet’s ring of space stations. Covert forces will have their own mission...

The Patriots’ plan is to withdraw in good order from their own muster point: a Guard training orbital located within the Baraspine system’s asteroid belt. Navy forces will be covering them. Covert forces will be assisting the Patriots on the forge world of Perinetus.

A couple of characters (by virtue of their premise) will be set to different purposes, but that’s the 10-second summary of what each team will be doing in their first battle.

Welcome to Open Play. It's really fun to just bring troll stuff like 20 deathstrike launchers and have at it, or just 900 conscripts against a warlord titan just to see how many it takes to kill the titan.

I also think that “fuck it, do what you want” can also be quite freeing from a narrative standpoint - I mean, my last RP featured an order of sisters who deployed half their manpower as Bene Gesserit-style spies.

I once deployed an entire tank column for a crate of rum, and had an infantryman haul off a statue during a game of The Relic, I have had guardsmen one shot Terminators in close combat, brave a literally storm of fire and hold the objective, and roll flat on their face every time plasma was used. I've had T'au drones kill Space Marines in single combat, and fire warriors brave hordes of pox walkers to reach a tower. Open and Narrative play make the game fun, far more fun than Matched play can ever get, heck I once had a model from Age of Sigmar appear in an apocalyptic Tank battle and not only survive but thrive.

Trying to determine if I should post about what Haven was doing before deployment or not, because what they were doing technically counts as Tech-Heresy, then again in the lore that I wrote the actual planet called Haven is also an Exodite world currently on speaking terms with the humans and Aeldari. Hence why they seem to get involved in random warp shit too often and they're not too fond of either the Inquisition, or Cogboys.

That said what they were doing was blasting T'au on a volcanic world because it was a key Munitorum depot so some stuff probably was "Reclaimed" :P

For what it's worth, my intention with Gav is to short-circuit the electric fences (perhaps with explosion of the power source, for that extra little something) so those Divinatory Guard holding the checkpoint have to deal with the desperate, and potentially now even more panicked crowd who suddenly have broader access to the customs plaza - which should make a passable distraction to make the elevator.

While the Mechanicus is known to make use of Astartes vehicles and vessels in their armed forces - and why wouldn't they, since they make the bloody things - it all depends on what STCs an individual forge world has access to.

Since the Imperials weren't able to sway any Astartes on-side for the crusade, it may well be that none of the forge worlds in Adrantis have STCs for any Marine equipment - or at least nothing too enticing for a Chapter, cos otherwise I'd think the Imperials and loyal Mechanicus would've used the promise of a massive rearmament (to say nothing of war spoils and reparations extorted from the neutral forges) to secure some of the Emperor's Angels service.

That's arguably for the best, as such treasures could've attracted the wrong sort of people (https://role-player.net/forum/showthread.php?t=40254&page=8&p=2992962&viewfull=1#post2992962)...

The high command on Tephaine would like the official designations to be the Adrantean Defence Force and the Adrantean Republic Navy (although since most of the Adranteans are still believers, there has been some resistance to changing ship prefixes from His Divine Majesty’s Ship to Adrantean Republic Ship), but as with everything else in the fledgling Patriot Republic, there is still some ongoing debate.

If players want to come up with names for the Patriot services and take a vote, I’ll be happy to implement. :D

Derpnaster; are you still with us?

I've exchanged a few PMs with Derp about Imperial Ground and Void, but I haven't been able to hold up my end of the bargain and respond yet - work continues its best efforts to grind me into cookie dust, and I've been called up for Uncle duties on my days off.

Unfortunately, I have the Commissar Cain syndrome of expressing a bit of optimism about my circumstances, and the gods (perhaps including one on a golden throne) as they are want to do, punish the hubris of mere mortals.

Well, we’re not yet at the stage where I absolutely have to shunt the Ground campaign forward, so I can give you more time if you need it. The other option is if Derp wants to work on the interludes and the ongoing campaign in tandem.

Your lot are all still alive (well, at least those since your last post) as the terminal in Imperial Ground was taken, and reinforcements have arrived / will be arriving in the form of some NPC tankies (in Conquerors), AD's mechanized Krieg, my Adrantean loyalist infantry, Crenshaw and Gerry - so plenty of new and interesting people and clones for your tankies to interact with.

Glabrio's alive and physically whole, but definitely pissed as his first mission as an Interrogator has gone somewhat sideways with those nobles we were to rescue being assassinated. Saph and Gavin are in the process of trying to capture or kill the aforementioned assassins, to at least salvage something.

Thinking of dropping something in the home front just as a sort of introduction to at least the Colonel and Commissar. Alpha is more of a boilerplate template given the Watchmaster will likely get himself killed in glorious sacrifice to the Emperor and be replaced. Several times.

The 112th were the kind to ensure victory and the sanctified destruction of a vehicle by strapping one’s self with a multitude of high-yield explosives and inviting the enemy closer before detonating the explosives in a glorious display of self-sacrifice. The soldier who replaced Watchmaster Alpha had something of a legacy to live up to.
