The year is 1998 (https://stargate.fandom.com/wiki/1998) and humanity can taste the wane of the second millennium and the birth of the third. As if to mark the occasion, two bright stars unexpectedly burst across the heavens, and many marked it as the dawn of a new era. Officially billed by the media as the successful testing of new intercontinental ballistic missiles by the United States, the sole standing superpower with the end of the Cold War, many dismissed it as post-conflict military muscle flexing and extolled how such peace had come that a superpower could show off its power without rises in international tension. They are wrong.

Beneath the rock and steel of the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, a new era had indeed begun. And at its heart was the Stargate, an alien device of mysterious origin capable of sending people across the stars to hundreds or thousands of worlds connected to the so-called Stargate Network by identical gateways. Unearthed in Giza seven decades before, the Stargate was only successfully tested a few years before, leading the United States Air Force to discover just how small a power humanity is in the galaxy. Since their defeat of the alien Goa'uld Ra, humanity has found itself under increasing danger from alien powers. The most egregious of these events was the failed attempt by the Goa'uld System Lord Apophis to conquer the Earth, leading the flagship Stargate team SG-1 to disobey orders and infiltrate the enemy fleet, successfully destroying it in orbit over the planet.

But even with the fall of Apophis and his ambitions to subjugate the people of Earth, the Stargate Program under the authority of Stargate Command remains under pressure. Where critics of the Stargate Program like Senator Robert Kinsey no longer advocate for the shutdown of the operation, talks of increased oversight and the need to expand efforts to keep the Stargate a secret have mounted. Many fear that further attacks on the world will reveal the existence of the Stargate and cause mass panic among the civilian population. Others are afraid of the onset of a new Cold War if the technology retrieved by the Stargate program shifts the balance of power in the world.

Amid all this speculation, the goal of the Stargate Program remains as it always has: to explore the galaxy, to gather powerful new technologies, to build off-world alliances, and to protect the Earth and humanity, whatever the cost.

* * * * *

Welcome to Stargate: Rise of Humanity! This is a fanfic RP set in the Stargate universe after the events of season 2, episode 1. Humanity is in increasing danger and all that stands between it and enslavement by alien species are the forces of Stargate Command, a top-secret division operating under the United States Air Force. At the center of its operation is the eponymous Stargate, a great metallic ring of alien origin that connects to an intergalactic network of such devices, allowing near-instantaneous travel to any world with a working Stargate.

Player characters will be United States Armed Forces personnel (mostly Air Force) assigned to the Stargate Program or civilians with special skillsets that are considered outside military expertise. They will be assigned to one of the Stargate Teams sent through the Stargate to worlds unknown in order to explore, procure alien technologies, make alliances with alien species, and oppose the increasing dangers closing in on humanity. On these perilous missions anything can happen as the galaxy is filled with many threats both ancient and contemporary. Death is a real possibility on these missions and not necessarily the worst thing that can happen.

While the dangers of the universe lay beyond the Stargate, humanity maintains its stronghold of Earth, at least for now. There SG personnel can receive training and equipment for their perilous missions. They can also make recommendations to the scientists and researchers of the SGC to push the boundaries of technology and knowledge in ways that will make their jobs easier, or even possible. But this is not without its danger either. Whether through failed missions or information leaks, any use of alien technology or materials may attract the attention of both curious civilians and foreign powers. The forces of the SGC may find themselves called upon to make compromises or even commit unsavory acts to protect the secrecy of the Stargate Program.

IC Thead (Not Available Yet)

* * * * *

Name: Self-explanatory

Age: Self-explanatory

Appearance: Pictures and/or written description. Please describe your character in an early IC post as well.

Personality: A few brief points to guide your character/if we need to pilot them as an NPC.

Stargate Team: All player characters will be assigned to a re-formed SG-7 until we know how many characters we have. Characters may note that the designation SG-7 was originally given to a SG team (https://stargate.fandom.com/wiki/SG-7) that was destroyed by a Goa'uld bio-virus on the planet Hanka. Whether they know this from the outset is up to the player.

Skills/Specialization: The SGC maintains garrison personnel for large combat operations and grunt work, so SG teams are primarily made up of specialists who handle matters scientific, diplomatic, etc. Military ranks here will never rise above a major general and will generally be below a lieutenant. SG teams may be made up of either military or a mix of military and civilian personnel. Please keep emphasis on specialization. Nobody should be able to do more than two or so things and nobody can do everything.

Military personnel will keep general military skills like firearm operation and higher physical skills as a basic. They may also specialize into areas such as demolitions, marksmanship, medical, command, etc. Please note your character's rank in their name and explain how they came to be associated with the Stargate Program. It may be helpful to note that the Stargate Program is under NASA and the USAF respectively.

Civilians are almost non-existent under the SGC for the simple reason that they do not have the clearance to be involved in the operations. However, the SGC has made exceptions based on non-military specializations including medical and scientific skill sets. However, the greatest interest in civilian personnel generally revolves around historical knowledge as many of the alien species encountered by the Stargate Program seem to have connections to past human civilizations and their mythologies, most notably the Egyptian pantheon, but also including the Norse. Nevertheless, civilians are still treated with some hesitancy by the SGC and must prove the worth of their knowledge.

(*GM Note: Read: If you want to be a civilian, you better have a convincing backstory. That being said, characters with more historical and mythological knowledge can give the RP more options for growing. I would also strongly suggest that players have at least a passing familiarity with whatever history/myths their characters are experts in, as I will work hints and clues into the RP based on characters' skill sets to give options for how they can handle situations. Be prepared for deviations though, as we are mixing aliens into things after all.)

Stuff: This is a miscellaneous section for non-military items such as clothes (most military personnel will wear uniforms/dress uniforms pretty much all the time) and personal effects. Military personnel may also carry a sidearm, but this should be noted in the IC. This is a good place to put anything that has plot/sentimental value to your character for character/plot development purposes.

Generally equipment like firearms, explosives, etc. will be handed out before a mission and will not be carried around the base. Specialist equipment like scientific gear likewise will either remain in specific areas in the base or be distributed based on requests for missions. Because this will change from mission to mission, it isn't necessary to update this unless something remains in your character's possession for an extended period of time.

Background: This does not need to be too extensive and it is expected that character backstories will grow as the RP does. However, this is where all characters should justify their association with the Stargate Program, especially the civilians. There will be an opportunity for the characters to mention their backstories in the opening posts in the IC. All characters, including civilians, may either have been part of the Stargate Program before their addition to SG-7 or have just been added having just been introduced to the Stargate Program, but none may have been part of the SG teams before - they generally would be administration, specialization (e.g. non-field scientists or researchers), or garrison.

The standard side-arm of the SGC, the M9 Beretta is simple and versatile, more than capable of offering a lethal solution in combat against unarmored opponents. However, it's slow rate of fire and poor penetration has proven it ineffective against some Jaffa armor.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/af/P90--.png
As it became apparent that the Stargate Program was faced with opponents wielding sophisticated armament and great numbers, the SGC made the decision to equip its soldiers with the FN P90. A compact, fast-firing submachine gun with a large ammunition capacity, the P90 has so far proven a capable main firearm for the forces of the SGC. What it lacks in stopping power and penetration, it makes up with sheer ferocity, more than enough to give any Jaffa warrior pause.

Currently it is the policy of the SGC to limit exposure, possession, and use of non-human weaponry to researchers and personnel with extensive experience with any given item until such time as their functions are better understood.

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/stargate/images/9/99/Zatud1_-_noback.JPG/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/350?cb=20070224181923
Analogous to human pistols, the Zat'nik'tel is an energy weapon used by the Goa'uld and their Jaffa armies. It is known that the weapon is capable of discharging energy bolt at a semi-automatic rate of fire. If an individual is hit with the first bolt, it will stun them, possibly to unconsciousness, and cause great pain. A second hit will kill the individual while a third will cause their bodies to disintegrate entirely. Currently there are no known countermeasures for these effects, though the SGC has ordered that lines of research be opened with a high priority.

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/stargate/images/e/e2/Staffweapon.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/300?cb=20110821120350
More commonly known simply as the Jaffa staff, this elongated staff is capable of firing lethal bolts of energy over long distances. It is the favored and standard weapon wielded by the Goa'uld Jaffa armies and is capable of penetrating conventional anti-ballistic armor with little more difficulty than plain clothing. Jaffa armor appears capable of blocking, deflecting, or otherwise dispersing the energy of the bolts, but only to the limited degree that glancing shots alone are survivable; direct hits are instantly fatal. Like with the Zat'nik'tel, the SGC is attempting to discover a means to enable better survivability against these weapons.

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/stargate/images/a/a2/Stun_grenade.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/350?cb=20070518191810
Also known as the Jaffa shock grenades, these spherical energy weapons are about the size of a baseball. When activated, they will glow red before detonating with intense light and sound, causing near-instantaneous unconsciousness in those in the immediate vicinity. Though this poses a significant threat given the potential for SG personnel to be captured rather than killed, the SGC does not consider research into countering the Tok'Kal's effects as high priority given the relative rarity with which they are deployed.

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/stargate/images/5/5b/Cheyenne.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20110908145328
Buried deep under the Cheyenne Mountains, the Cheyenne Mountain Complex serves as the nucleus of the Stargate Program and its main base of operations. Home to the sole Stargate owned by humanity, the Complex is a series of underground bunkers and tunnels housing the SGC, the scientists and researchers working on the Stargate, the SG teams, and the largest of the Stargate garrison forces.

Though immense in size and nearly self-sufficient, the Complex contains only one notable entrance and exit. Inside is a bewildering array of complex machinery, cutting-edge technology, and the few pieces of alien objects retrieved by away missions, with both known and unknown properties and purposes. Scientific research laboratories butt up against barracks and mess halls, all within steel-reinforced concrete, parts of whose construction date back over seven decades. Some have suggested that a new facility should be constructed to house such an important operation, but even with the importance of the Stargate Program funding and resources for such an endeavor, let alone a secure enough location, is impossible to find for the time being.

Accepted Characters

Name: Adile Thurman

Age: 39

Appearance: Adile is of Eastern European descent and stands just under the average height for a woman sporting vibrant red hair and a fair complexion. Prominent cheekbones stand out on an angular face that ends in a smooth, rounded chin that underlines her full lips and sporadic freckles. Stockier than most her age, most of her girth comes from a long life of physical work and it does little to diminish her feminine appeal. Though regarded as plain overall by most, one thing stand out about Adile: her eyes. Even not being any smaller or larger than others, all those who draw near can see that the iris carries a mixture of blues and purples that seem to intermingle with one another, some swearing that they change places every time they see them again. Combined with an unexplained effect that causes them to seem to reflect more light than normal, some people find meeting her gaze unnerving.

Personality: Typically calm, focused, and detailed to an almost clinical degree, Adile exudes an air of authority and gravitas that simultaneously stifles levity in her presence and reassures those under her command. Known for her measured and deliberate pace, she rarely approves of hasty action and is quick to reprove those who act out of emotion. These traits have left her with an ever-shrinking pool of personal acquaintances, but those who know her are well aware that she was not always this way. Occasionally her original personality of laughter and warmth will appear, highlighting days long gone.

Stargate Team: Leader of SG-7

Stuff: Generally austere in her clothing and furnishings beyond what is necessary for her role, Adile carries a single personal item: a small icon in the shape of an emerald dodecahedron encrusted with tiny pearls that she wears on a bronze necklace string. She keeps it on her person at all times, with it being said that she even dulls it down with camo paint so she can bring it on missions.

Background: Little is clear about Adile's past before she joined the Stargate Program at its inception as a sergeant in the garrison forces. During her time in the garrison she rose to the rank of Second Lieutenant after displaying exemplary conduct in the field against a Goa'uld ambush that resulted in the incapacitation of her commanding officer. With the reformation of SG-7 Adile became one of a number of candidates drawn from the garrison for the posting as the new team leader, who the SGC felt should have experience in the Stargate Program. Though some held reservations due to her growing distance with other personnel, her record tipped the balance in the end and opened the post to her.

Name: Doctor Coryn Ambrose (Ambri)

Age: 34

Appearance: Ambri stands a little over 5'6" and sports an athletic build with soft curves. She is typically seen in her uniform around the base and in the field. At work in the medical facility, she wears a white smock over her uniform.

https://i.pinimg.com/736x/ae/7e/bc/ae7ebc8ee34dbbb6fb54810452e11bd0.jpg

Personality: Ambri is very personable. She is quick to smile and very friendly. Her bed-side manner is also bubbly, making her a pleasure to work with. Her quick wit and sarcasm only adds to her charm, her more serious side only seen when she is working frantically to save a patient.

Stargate Team: Re-formed SG-7

Skills/Specialization: Chief Master Sergeant (CMSgt) Ambrose has a medical degree and specializes in emergency medicine and parasitical infections. She has a clear head in the face of danger and performs best when under pressure. Although she is skilled in hand-to-hand combat, her ability with firearms is mediocre at best. Her knowledge of the weapons is above par, but her aim is where she is lacking, a situation she is working hard to correct in her spare time.

Due to her extensive work with parasites in the field, she was brought into the Stargate Program to study the Goa'uld symbiotes. She has spent the past eight months working with the other doctors to unlock the unique relationship the snake-like creatures have with their human counterparts.

Stuff: Medical bag with all the expected supplies--bandages/morphine/trauma dressings/splints/basic instruments/penlight/etc. She also wears a necklace with a small pendant of the tree of life on it. It is kept tucked inside her uniform top.

Background: Doctor Ambrose's father was a pilot in the air force and she followed in his footsteps and joined the USAF right out of high school. She was put though medical school and graduated with honors, serving overseas for a few years until she became a member of the Stargate Program. She typically is a first responder in regards to patient care, doing triage, then getting the individual(s) stabilized before handing them off for the next stage in treatment.

As for her personal life, she is a health nut, exercising daily and eating well to maintain her figure. Her only vices are coffee...and chocolate, the two things she has not managed to cut from her daily routine. She believes everything should be done in moderation, so she only allows herself one cup of brew daily and one candy bar. Everyone has their vices, and those are hers.

Medical personnel it is, if that is what you want. I don't have limits on any specialization unless we get an overabundance of them.

For everybody's benefit, I will say that I was initially hesitant about having multiple specializations, particularly diplomacy, all for one character, but on reflection that the US has actually deployed special forces with the expectation that they will engage in diplomacy, I decided it was acceptable. For multiple specializations not including diplomacy, I would say that the question is more whether it is believable given the length of service and number of specializations. For example, having two specializations for a character who has served for ten years is plausible and acceptable.

On a related note, while I don't want every character to be a special forces operative and I simultaneously don't want to necessarily mimic the show, where a lot of SG teams seem to have been formed of grunts mixed with research/diplomatic personnel, I will say that it is not unlikely and is acceptable for characters to be special forces given the clearance/operating levels of the Stargate Program. I won't hold anyone to balancing the team, at least not in the meta sense, but it would be preferable to have a well-rounded team and any deficiencies might cause... accidents. Dreadful accidents. For the team as a whole, of course. *smiles*

Storm

You say she is 'warm and friendly' and 'cold and direct' in her personality section and that she is trained in diplomacy, but has a low tolerance for politics over the practicality of security. While these are not necessarily mutually exclusive and I leave it to you to convey these things in a realistic fashion during the RP, I will say that you aren't making things easy for yourself. Even in a military setting this can rub a lot of people the wrong way or come across as dangerously/unstably bi-polar. Jack O'Neil and Daniel Jackson are both warm and friendly and generally remain so while Teal'c is generally more distant, especially with those he doesn't know/doesn't yet trust/respect, but all are fairly consistent in their behavior when Teal'c isn't making Jaffa jokes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vt4WredSDog). The choice is yours.

As for her skills:
I would sum this as a sniper with diplomatic skills. Hand-to-hand, small arms, and rifles (rifles are small arms, btw) would be standard training for all military personnel while small unit tactics would have roots in basic training and be naturally extended as part of her special forces background. Small unit tactics is also something less tangible that your character would prove in the field. Diplomacy is that way as well, actually, though both are nice to have on her resume so I know what she might be interested in trying.

Besides those notes, she looks good to go.

Imperial1917 I am probably going to tweak the character over the next day or two. Mentioned that have not the highest knowledge of SG and want to write the character that could fit the setting. Will most likely ease up on the cold part and focus more on the having the ability to handle aggressive situations however focus more on the resolving things through diplomacy. Will update you when done, any suggestions on what I could tweak would also be appreciated. ~hippie~

As a side note to everyone: While I know it is difficult to say what people are going to put down as a rank and I did put a cap at lieutenant, we will still want to observe the chain of command. For my character I can still put them above others as a major to get things moving, but I'd rather that people leave room for promotions rather than maxing out ranks from the get-go. That, and it might be awkward for, say, the medical personnel in the team to have a higher rank than the sniper. Just a thought.

Which reminds me, Storm. You put Mari as a Captain when the cap is Lieutenant.

bluemoon
It seems a little bit of an odd choice for someone to wear a smock outside of medical facilities. The choice is yours, but my understanding is that a smock is part of a doctor's sterilized equipment, so it doesn't quite make sense for someone to wear it around the base where it could lose its sterile status, meaning that any emergency would require changing the smock before getting to work.

Aside from that, I would ask that you consider bumping down her rank. Given her length of service, her rank makes sense, but I wouldn't want complications when other ranks come in from the other players. Technically, in my mind at least, medical personnel are usually over-ruled on non-medical matters by others, even of lower rank, when it comes to command decisions, so it shouldn't be a problem, but it could cause complications anyways. The choice is yours; you are fine where you are.

You may also want to mention how long Ambri has been with the Stargate Program (it has been running for a year at this point) and what your interaction is like with Dr. Fraiser, seeing as she is the current Chief Medical Officer and holds the rank of Captain. You can keep this until you get in the IC though.

Aside from that, she looks good to go.

Imperial1917 Oops, think I missed the rank cap, will adjust to having her as a liustenant. Only other question I have that I might have missed. Would she necessarily need to be an officer. Good to hear that you are working on a character.

First Lieutenant is the cap. I'm not too particular, I just want room for promotions and want to make it clear that there should/will be a story impact to people having so-and-so rank. In the show I think Jack got to Major before taking over as the overall commander in SG:U.

I was waiting to see where we are with characters and then I was going to write out a rounder character to balance.
I usually play women, but I'm a stickler for authenticity, and as this was the US in the 90s, women were not common nor widely accepted in special ops and combat positions. So I wanted to see who we all had before creating so we don't have an all female team which would have been not impossible, but unlikely to the period.

Also omg but does anyone else feel like the 90s was yesterday? And then you're like, nope 20 years ago. O.o
Or am I just old?

Stan maintains and regularly upgrades a personal computer for gaming. Much of his free time is spent on this pc.

Background: Stanley was interested in space since his youth. Having been influenced by his favorite tv shows, Stan was one of the few who believed his Uncle's stories about aliens. As he grew older, and life turned out to be more science and less fiction Stan began to associate his Uncle's stories with those on the television.

Stanley got big into video games, owning multiple platforms as he grew up. These escapes only increased his interest in space. Though he achieved decent grades throughout school, Stan was never an overachiever and chose to enlist rather then go to college. Receiving what he felt was the best offer from the Navy, Stanley signed up to be an Electronics Technician.

The first year and a half of his service was training, Basic followed by his A-school; His electronics training covered the basic repairs on radar and com gear both. Choosing a communications C-School, Stan found himself working on the specialized communication equipment used by the SEALs. He began to take college courses, in his free time. Building a rapport with the special forces operatives he worked with, Stan began to consider changes to his future.

After discussing his options with his Commanding Officer, Rodgers applied and was accepted to MIT. Upon graduating, Stan was commissioned as an Ensign. He reached out to and spoke with with his old CO and went to Basic Underwater Demolition School/SEAL(BUD/S) school. Upon completing the course, Stan graduated Jump School and completed the SEAL Qualification Training(SQT). Stan was assigned to a SEAL team and troop; Where his training continued. With a month left of his Unit Level Training, already completed the six month Individual Specialty Training(IST)*, Stanley was called into his CO’s office. Rodgers had been cut special Joint Operations orders, his commanding officer could give him no details about the assignment yet wished him luck. Rodgers packed his gear, including his weapons, and made his way to Colorado.

^The Suppressor is not constantly equipped, it/they are typically kept an a pocket of Stan’s uniform in case they are needed.

Name: First Lieutenant Jacob Popertue

Age: 29

Appearance: Jacob stands at 5'7" with an athletic body build. His dark brown hair is usually cut and styled in a buzzcut. He usually sports a moustache while the rest of his face is clean-shaven.
https://i.imgur.com/ew8T0yH.jpg

Personality: Jacob is an extreme family man. His willingness to protect his family and loved ones know no bounds. His desire to protect his family is what led him to join the army. While he's generally a very friendly and nice man, in warfare he becomes rather aggressive towards enemy. You might even be fooled to think he's not a good guy with how willing he'll be to sacrifice himself and his men in battle, but he's only doing it to protect the ones he loves.

Stargate Team: SG-7

Skills/Specialization: Leadership/Tactics: During a battle Jacob can expertly discern the best ways in leading allies and fighting off enemy. He's very good in finding good ways to fight and flank the enemy, and he knows who to send and how to send them.

Stuff: Jacob has a picture of his wife and five-year-old daughter that's always with him in one of his pockets.

Background: As a child, Jacob was taught to protect and defend his loved ones, which caused him to join the United States Army after graduating high-school. He spent seven years in the Infantry branch until he was moved to Special Forces due to showing high skill in leadership and tactics. After a year in Special Forces, Jacob's father, Jaxon Popertue, a Sergeant in the Air Force, died in combat. Jacob decided he wanted to transfer to the Air Force to kind of take his fathers place.

After finishing the Air Force's basic training, Jacob decided to go through officer training, where he passed with flying colors. The next two years of his life were spent as a Second Lieutenant before he was promoted to First Lieutenant. At this point Jacob was once again moved to Special Forces as the XO of a squad that went on highly top secret missions in the Middle East. During a particular mission, the squad CO was killed in action, and Jacob had to take command. Jacob expertly led his team to a victory without anymore casualties. Several weeks later, Jacob was reassigned to the Stargate Program.

Since we're checking.
I was planning to go with a Automatic Rifleman who started off in the Army and is now in the Air Force as an Aerial Gunner in a PJ unit, before being reassigned to the SGC. And can speak Russian. His rank is also Staff Sergeant.
Is that too much?

To everyone: Please vote in the poll so I have a better idea what we are working with in terms of knowledge. Again, deep knowledge of the lore isn't necessary, but I don't want to throw too many people in the deep end.

Please note how long your characters have been involved in the SG Program. Max is a year, as that is how long the SG Program has been running.

Accepted. One thing I will mention is that Jacob will be running into species and technologies he won't be familiar with, so I do look forward to seeing him learn to adapt to new situations.

Delta808
1. Automatic Rifleman - Define this for me. If it is just 'rifleman', that is acceptable.

2. PJ unit - Please define this as well. I am not familiar with the term.

3. Army to Air Force - I won't say no outright, but I do want an explanation for this. Not being an expert on such matters myself, I don't know what the rate of transfer between branches of the military are, but I can't imagine that it is terribly high or favored. Certainly an explanation is required.

4. Speaks Russian - This is acceptable.

5. Staff Sergeant - This is acceptable.

...it might be awkward for, say, the medical personnel in the team to have a higher rank than the sniper....
Actually Medical personnel (depending on their role in the field) are most likely to be one of the more higher ranked people on a team or in a base. For example: US Army, Air Force, and Navy DOCTORS (Medical Osteopathy, and Dentist) start at Officers (O2) at the lowest. By the time they arrive to their unit and start most are promoted to O3.
Combat Medics, however, range anywhere from E3 to E9.

Whereas a Sniper can range anywhere from E3 to E9. And also possibly be Officers but at a Training level.

In the show I think Jack got to Major before taking over as the overall commander in SG:U.
Jack got to the rank of Colonel before he was promoted to Brigadier General to take command of the SGC. After that he's promoted to Major General to become Head of the Department of Homeworld Security. His last known rank is Lieutenant General.

1, 2, 3
1: He used the Squad Automatic Weapon (M249 SAW). So the support gunner more or less.

2: PJ stands for "Pararescue Jumper". They go to great lengths to retrieve POWs, hostages, and even (depending on their mission) units who are severely pinned down and need to be extracted. Their motto is: "These Things We Do, That Others May Live."
*I would like to note that some PJ units are activated when a Natural Disaster occurs and are called on to assist.

3: Over here in the US people can serve their time in one branch, and, if they want to, leave and enlist in another branch. Most of the time they "transfer" over with the same rank depending on their job. For my RPC he got out of the Army as a Sergeant (E4) and was able to enlist in to the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant (E4). Depending on the job, people may sometimes get a promotion or two based on their prior service and records.

I'll be adding some more things to the OOC OP today. Tomorrow I will be out, so I'll get the IC up the day after tomorrow if not today.

@Delta808
The point being that having the medic be the highest ranking member of the squad could cause complications.

I did remember belatedly that Jack reached Colonel.

Which doesn't exactly answer my question to frequency, but either way I would figure that there would be a reason behind it. Whether you want it as a plot point is up to you.

Personality:
He's the wisecrack, the jokester, the whiner. If someone made a derogatory joke it was probably him. If you hear whining, it's probably coming from his mouth. He's also a planner and an instigator. Where he isn't childish enough to start something, He will plan it, and help to push it along.
There are many a pictures in both the Army and the Air Force of him and some others being chased by an angry fellow soldier. Though none of his antics ever landed him or his fellow troublemakers in such hot water that any of them were court-martialed. That also came with the planning phase.
But he's a good Soldier. Follows orders, has an open mind, and will do anything to ensure the safety of his Team mates and really anyone else he knows

Stargate Team:
SG-7

Skills/Specialization:
-Has experience with Parachuting and rappelling.
-Operation of an M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, M136 AT4, FGM-148 Javelin, and M4 Selectable Lightweight Attack Munition (SLAM).
-Speaks Russian

Stuff: Civilian Clothing, Personal Computer, Video Games.

Background:
Born to Russian Immigrants and speaking both English and Russian, Vasili only felt love for his family and his country. Unlike his parents who longed for the Motherland and pushed for him and his siblings to secure careers that would be beneficial for both their family.
The youngest amongst his siblings, his directions towards power and influence wasn't as strong as the rest, but no one was happy when he enlisted. At 17-years-old Vasili was able to enlist into the United States Army, with his parents permission, with the understanding that he was going to use his Service to fast track into the world of Politics. Imagine everyone's surprise and disproval when he got home 2 years later with a Deployment, a Purple Heart, and a Combat Infantry Badge (CIB) under his belt. PFC Vasili Ilari had joined the Infantry and he was damned proud of it especially because he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division.

After an 8-year enlistment, 3 promotions, and 3 deployments. Sergeant Vasili Ilari felt it was time to start making a life for himself outside of the Military. He declined to reenlist, signed his discharge papers and rejoined the Civilian world.
3 months later he was sitting in a United States Air Force's Recruitment Office. Civilian life had been...difficult. After speaking to different Service Members about their experiences Vasili decided that the USAF was the best choice for reenlistment. His recruiter pushed him to see if the Pararescue Jumpers would be something he'd like to do, but Vasili had his eyes set on Aerial Gunnery. More specifically, the Gunner of an AC-130 Spectre Gunship.
Someone higher up the chain of command seemed to agree with Vasili's Air Force Recruiter about his future being with the PJs. Staff Sergeant Vasili Ilari would get to be an Aerial Gunner. But he would do so in a Rotary unit attached to the 24th Special Tactics Group. In the 4 years he was in the Air Force he was deployed 2 times, and each deployment he would volunteer to be with the Quick Reaction Force effectively spending half of his deployment time either inserting or extracting PJs.
Serving with the PJs gave him a feeling of respect towards the Air Force, and not only to JUST the Pararescue Jumpers...but since he started off in the Army, he still saw himself as an Army Infantryman. Therefore he often answers a command with a "Hooah" when given an order, though only to those without a stick in their ass.
So, with a few exceptions, Captain and lower.
Somewhere along the line Staff Sergeant Vasili Ilari was reassigned to Star Gate Command, and assigned to SG-7.

The IC is up (https://role-player.net/forum/showthread.php?t=93305)! All characters are in the conference/briefing room except the Major. Things characters may want to cover:
- Their history
- How long they have been with the Stargate Program
- How they joined the Stargate Program
- What they know about the Stargate Program - This is something that I will give leeway on: characters would have access to some files, but not everything. They certainly would not have access to personnel files and research files would be more like the memos in the OOC OP. The longer they have been part of the operation, however, the more they would know. If you just joined the show, your knowledge would be a mix of After Action Reports (AARs) and some rumors you might have picked up.

Everything else is up to you guys. Basically the first round of posts is the meet and greet before the show. Please remember to use the colors indicated in the OP post when quoting other characters and keep quotes short (i.e. don't copy the entirety of other people's posts into your post).

On another note, I put this in the Mature section even though the show was PG-13 at best, but I don't expect it to be blood-guts-and-sex in this RP. That being said, I believe in keeping player's options open.

I’m not sure where in the text you are referring to when you say I got your and Stom’s characters mixed up.

The purple is for Thurman.

It’s not just you. I also use the grey background and seeing things with colored text is a pain. I’ll edit the text colors to lighter shades later, when I am on a computer. I don’t want to get into the text of the OP on a phone.

I’ll be checking whether the military has archeological branches, unless you mean that she got financial aid from the military to get higher education and took up her service after that. It’s not a problem though, so don’t worry overmuch about it.

Aside from that, I have no problem with the character. PM me. Given the OP, I need to ease your character in, probably during the briefing, so after the first round of posts. If you really want in on the first round, let me know and I’ll work something out.

Ok, Delta8O8; so do you want him hated on? Cause its about to hit a hell of a lot harder then you'd expect. Because even if that sort of training was wanted by the military it A) wouldn't. Have been done by a single person, especcally the crew manned weapons, and B ) would not be done in four months; Both of these qualify because of one basic thing. Personnel are expensive. And the health of the person would be at , not to mention if that person is unable to participate in their deployment there would be a massive hole in their capabilities.

Now if you want to keep the rest of the post, i will still happily rip your head out your asshole in character, but i'm gonna call a massive bullsjit here on the bullshit that is killing the immersion of the rp.

I dunno
Why don't you start with suggestions like those instead of coming in and going all D&D/yugioh nerd specific on me?

Dnafein
03-11-2019, 03:13 AM
Why don't you actually do some research rather then attempt to make as bad ass a character as is possible by loading him up on every big gun you can think of? Or how about playing the character as you described him (i.e. a wisecracking good soldier) rather then a insubordinate little shit? That might make what obviously looked like a really bad joking attempt at swelling up ones skillset into well a joke rather then something for said character to disrespectfully through a tantrumn over.

You want me to make a suggestion, here it is. Take a big step back, go to google and start using the search bar. I'd recommend starting with "How to treat an officer of a different military branch then your own." It will tell you that they are not supposed to be treated any differently. Secondly, you should probably look up the support role you want to play. Once you do it might aid you better in playing your character, especially if you actually research the pararescue jumpers and how basic army infantry are trained/behave. Additionally you could always actually take the time to see if any of your fellow rpers have a history in the military who can offer you help. For instance, I was in the Navy for four years, and if you hqve basic military protocol questions for me, I would be happy to answer them.

Delta8O8
03-11-2019, 03:25 AM
If I wanted to be a badass character I would have been a SEAL, or an actual PJ, or Delta Force, or a Green Beret, or Marine Force Recon, or part of some DEVGRU unit.
My character is NOT a PJ. He's an Aerial Gunner. The Gunner in a Pavehawk, or a Chinook, or a Huey. He was just attached to a PJ unit.

InfraredHero

Yo guys, let's keep the OOC drama to a minimum.

Delta, I hope you understand that it would be kind of natural for some of these dudes to criticize Vasili's first impression. He is definitely showing himself as a very carefree and almost careless individual in the current situation. Not saying he is actually like that, but that's the impression the other characters would have at the moment. Personally, I am rather enjoying your character so far, so I don't want you to think this is anything personal. :)

I'd also like to take a quick moment to make an apology on the whole uniform topic in the IC. It seems I've misread some things, and I also didn't write some things as I intended for it to come out. In my IC post I had Jacob call Vasili out on not wearing an actual uniform, but I've been informed that battle fatigues are technically also uniforms.

I also see that Mari may too be wearing fatigues, so I can edit out the part of my post where Jacob mentioned her uniform. Though I will wait to get confirmation on what she is wearing from Storm. Just to be sure.

Imperial1917

Woah there, people. Let’s all take a deep breath and calm down. It seems that there has been some misunderstandings here; some miscommunications. No need to get upset.

Here is what is important:

Dnafein
If you have a problem with his character’s attitude, you have options of:
A ) Politely bringing up the topic in a calm manner in the OOC
AND / OR
B ) Referring the matter to the GM, which is me in this case.

You do NOT take it upon yourself to cause drama in the OOC.

Delta808
I do not approve of Dnafein’s remarks to you in the OOC. That being said, I also don’t approve of your reaction. If you encounter an issue with another player that you feel unable to respond to politely and calmly, refer the matter to me.

@everyone else
This goes for all of you as well. Don’t cause drama in the OOC. Dynamic interactions between characters are always welcome, but needless tension between players is not. Just take a deep breath.

I’ll address the uniform/protocol/immersion question later. This is the more important matter right now.

Storm
03-11-2019, 12:58 PM
I also see that Mari may too be wearing fatigues, so I can edit out the part of my post where Jacob mentioned her uniform. Though I will wait to get confirmation on what she is wearing from Storm. Just to be sure.

Samantha is in fatigues yet is a no harm no foul as she could be an example on how to wear a uniform. If she were in Class As or her Dress Blues, same thing. The Lt didn't say Mari was an example of how a dress uniform looked, just that she was an example of how a uniform should look so that works. Think your post works as is.

Name: Maisie Chapman

Age: 30

Appearance: Maisie is, undeniably, Scottish. Almost stereotypically so. Light skin, green eyes and curly red hair. Her build is that of someone who has always been active, athletic. She's probably not the tallest person around, at 5'8.

Personality: Her personality changes depending on if she's on a mission or not, but not much of a change. On the base she's the friendly one, she likes to hang out with her squadmates, when she isn't practicing her hand-to-hand skills or her marksmanship, or maintaining her weapons. On a mission though, she's all business. She likes to get things done, when she isn't coming up with plans that may or may not be highly elaborate, but still somehow manage to work. Either way, she is slightly competative, almost like she has something to prove

Stargate Team: SG-7

Skills/Specialization: Airforce Combat Controller; Chief Master Sergeant rank. Heavy weapons, preference towards grenade launcher and rocket launcher usage. Some demolitions training. Other CCT training stuff as well, but those wont come into it. And the standard basic military training.

Stuff: Other then her standard military clothing (BDUs, dress uniform and the like), Maisie is usually seen wearing a locket. Inside is a piece of her family tartan and a photo of her with her parents when she graduated from CCT training. Her "civilian" clothing usually consists of a blue t-shirt and baggy jeans. When she's exercising she usually wears a tank top and sweatpants.

Background: Maisie is a military child. Born to a Scottish-American mother and a Scottish father, both of whom were in the military, she grew up on and around military bases, mostly Army and Air Force bases in England, some of which the US Army and Air Force share with the British. She is the third oldest of her siblings, or second depending how you count since she is a twin, her twin brother, Alex was born first though. Her younger days were spent at school, as you can expect from a child, hanging out with friends and learning boxing and karate. Her father wanted her to be able to protect herself, so he taught her boxing as he had planned to become a professional boxer before joining the British Army as a tank driver. She also took up karate because it seemed interesting to her. When she graduated she had a choice, continue her studies into history and languages, or join the military. Well she chose the latter, mostly because they would pay for her education. She joined the Air Force and went through basic training, she took a liking to the Special Operations side of things and went into training to become a Combat Controller. She was eventually deployed to a base she knew well enough, RAF Mildenhall in the UK as part of the 67th Special Operations Squadron attached to the 352nd Special Operations Wing which the US had stationed there. It was a base she had grown up on seeing as her mother, a Weapons Specialist (person who deals with experimental weapons and the like), had been based there once. Maisie ran one mission to aid in the humanitarian operation near the start of the Bosnian Civil War, she was then head hunted by SGC and brought in to help reform SG-7, whom she was told was KIA on a highly top secret mission.

Please do not edit IC posts after someone has already posted in response. It forces others to change their posts and is unfair. If characters make mistakes, you have to live with it. If you want to edit a post, clear it with me first. Generally I will only clear minor changes or if the change is needed for plot reasons.

I didn't change it too much.
Not enough to warrant everyone editing their posts anyway.

Been a busy kiddo, if Imperial doesn't have the Major enter by tomorrow, will get another interaction post up, otherwise will get something in when the Major enters. Awesome story with an awesome cast ~hippie~

With the briefing post, I realized that this probably needs to be an interaction more than a single post. The divider between the two sections indicate a space for small reactions to what had happened before then. If you want to react to those parts, just divide your post the same way. I'll edit in responses to your posts as best I can, but after this time tomorrow I would prefer you to keep responses limited to what happens after the divide so we can keep moving. I'll make another post here in the OOC to signal the closing of that window.

Sorry guys. Some stuff has been coming up on my end and I’m pretty scattered right now. I don’t think I can coordinate something like this right now. I’m sorry I didn’t let you guys know earlier. I know you guys were looking forward to continuing and I want to continue, but I can’t do that right now. Hopefully someone else will start a SG campaign in the future. Either way, I might take another crack at it someday. I hope there’s no hard feelings and if that day comes, I hope to see you all there.
