Faction Name: People's Republic of Mars, also known as the PRM.

Location: Mars

Population: 4 million

Faction Age: 94 years

Government Type: Socialist Republic

Leader(s): Jun Chou is the president of the People's Republic of Mars. The legislative body is also filled with many other officials, but they possess little to no power when compared to the president's authority.

Military: Army- There are 65,000 soldiers that make up the army, which have been genetically-engineered to survive in the Martian environment without the need for life support. These soldiers range between light infantry to powered-exoskeleton forces, and also include wheeled, armored vehicles that are adapted to the Martian terrain.

Space Force- There are 100,000 pilots that are a part of the space force, all of which man a total fleet composed of 1,000 spacecraft. These vessels range in size between two-person fighters to twenty-person attack ships; all of these pilots are well-adapted to space combat.

Species: Genetically-modified humans (100%).

Major Imports: Helium-3 and volatiles.

Major Exports: Carbon, metals, hydrogen, and nitrogen.

History: In 2062, the People's Republic of China plans to create a stable, populated colony on Mars were finally realized. Soon after, however, the United States of American set up their own colony on Mars, leading to political and economic competition between the two superpowers on the red planet. Despite this competition, the PRC's colony swelled in strength and number, and the U.S. Mars Territory was served as nothing more than a nuisance to the rise of what was nicknamed "Rust China" back on Earth. Due to technological advancements and the low gravity of Mars, the PRC managed to build a functioning space elevator by capturing the Martian moon Phobos and using it as an orbital anchor.

Once traffic began to flow up and down the Chinese space elevator, the colony's capabilities expanded, allowing it to become a political, economic, military, and social giant on the red planet. When WW3 eradicated civilization back home, the Chinese colony on Mars quickly established itself as the continuation of the terrestrial PRC, renaming itself the People's Republic of Mars (PRM). They launched surprise attacks against the U.S. Mars Territory, subsuming their wealth and might to enhance the Chinese presence on Mars. Retaliatory strikes by U.S. Titan were met with an ample Chinese defense and easily deflected; in response, the PRM entered a conflict with the Union of Mercurian Nanosocialist States to secure the rich resources on Mercury, but ultimately were defeated by the adapted Mercurian forces.

Faction Name: Union of Mercurian Nanosocialist States, also known as the UMNS.

Location: Mercury.

Population: 5 million.

Faction Age: 91 years.

Goverment Type: Nanosocialist authoritarian dictatorship- In a nanosocialist state, information and intellectual property is controlled by the state, and distributed at its will. The state does not reward patents, but subsidizes research and creative endeavors instead; this system is more understandable when imagined as a "university" rather than a "corporation" model of research and development. Beyond this characteristic, the government is nothing more than a dictatorship controlled by a single individual.

Leader(s): Adrián Castillo is the dictator of the Union of Mercurian Nanosocialist States.

Military: Army- The surface-based military force of the UMNS is comprised of 37,500 soldiers trained to fight on both the infernal and frigid sides of Mercury. Average detachments include powered exoskeleton-equipped infantry, along with wheeled, armored vehicles suited for the Mercurian terrain.

Aerospace Force- The space-based military force of the UMNS is comprised of a fleet of 10,000 spacecraft of varying sizes and designs, which are manned by 110,000 pilots fully trained in atmospheric, orbital, and deep space combat. Typical spacecraft include two-person fighters, screener crafts housing ten people each, and large attack vessels that can house twenty people.

Mercurian Protective Force (MPF)- Originally named the Mercurian Protective Police Force, the Mercurian Protective Force is an intelligence, counter terrorism, and internal security agency worth mentioning as part of the Mercurian military. With a staff of roughly 5,000 the MPF is the secret police equivalent of the 20th Century KGB, though much less brutal. However, the MPF is not a force to be reckoned with, though it is said to be the most effective information-gathering organization of the current day and age. The MPF boasts its expert infiltration of foreign governments, but this is an unconfirmed fact.

Species: Genetically-modified humans (100%).

Major Imports: Carbon, nitrogen, and volatiles.

Major Exports: Helium-3, oxygen, and antimatter.

History: In 2065, Mercury was considered economically unviable for colonization by most of the superpowers. Despite the rich amount of helium-3, mineral ores, and solar energy that could be harvested from the rocky planet, its drastic surface temperature changes and depth within the Sun's gravity well stymied any colonization. However, the Transpacific Socialist Alliance, an ideological power bloc that could be viewed as the USSR of the 21st Century, saw many profits to be gained from inhabiting and exploiting Mercury. The largest power within the TSA, Peru, set up the infrastructure on Mercury that would eventually be used by the rest of the semi-wealthy nations of the Alliance.

Despite economic sanctions and military conflicts on Earth by many of the other superpowers, the Mercury colony flourished. Even after World War 3, the TSA nations on Mercury pooled together their resources to create the Union of Mercurian Nanosocialist States (UMNS). In the 2030s, the UMNS was forced into high-intensity warfare by the People's Republic of Mars and the Lagrangian Confederation; however, these assaults did little aside from bolster the dedication of the UMNS to keep itself alive.

Extra Information: Due to the intense temperature changes on Mercury's surface, the UMNS's habitats have been adapted to be able crawl across the surface of the rocky planet, giving them the element of mobility and saving them money that would have been spent on manufacturing temperature-resistant materials.

http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/8273/atcflag.png

Faction Name: Axxiom Trade Coalition (ATC)

Location: Ceres

Population: Approx. 4.5 mil

Faction Age: 75

Government Type: Relaxed Dictatorship/Coalition. The ATC is run by one entity that has absolute power, up to the point of changing the terms of the Coalition, and is advised by the leaders of the groups that make up the Coalition. The dictatorship is termed as relaxed because, unlike older self-destructive dictatorships, the ATC depends on keeping its members who can leave at any time, so keeping a balance is in their best interest.

Leader(s):
Age: 34 (body), 87 (mind)

Personality: Calculated, some would say cold, others would say business oriented.

Appearance: Cypher is based off a genetically engineered human body augmented with neural implants, and commanded by a rather advanced and self-sufficient AI. He also has several attachment ports on his body, two on his back that can be used for arms or wings, one at the base of his spine usually used for a tail, and one on the back of his neck used to interface with various systems. Due to a battle wound his face (starting from the nose down) has been replaced with a respirator and feeding system, this has a thick air tube coming out the left side over his shoulder and into a backpack; there is another tube on the right side that serves multiple functions and is positioned in the same manner. He is of average height with short brown hair and almost purely white skin. He also has yellow reptilian eyes with slit-pupils.

History: Cypher founded the ATC after creating a successful trade company on Ceres. He switches bodies every ten years or so, and as an AI it doesn't really bother him.

Military:

Personnel: Mostly soldiers that, while mostly untrained in combat, are proficient at manning their vessels and defending themselves. However, there are about 500 individuals that are trained in espionage and assassination, and they do their jobs very well.

Aerospace: A hodgepodge of vessels that are mostly merchant ships converted for war. These converted ships number around 7,000.

Species: Humans (normal and otherwise) 67%, Sapient AIs 16%, Uploaded Minds 10%, Uplifted Animals 7%

Major Imports: Oxygen, Volatiles.

Major Exports: Water ice, metals, assorted minerals.

History: The ATC based itself out of Ceres because it was the largest of the main belt planetoids and due to its position in the middle of the solar orbitals it was an optimal for a trading post. Ceres and the surrounding asteroids are now home to ports and colonies of medium size as well as several mining facilities and agro-domes.

Extra Information: The ATC imports goods for itself, exports its own goods, and also acts as a shipping service for other organizations. There also might be some espionage/assassination going on under the table, so ask and you might find out.

Faction Name: Palladium Transit Authority

Location: Pallas Orbital Path and transit network orbital plane

Population: 4.768 million at 2150 census

Faction Age: Presumed to be among the first wave of colonization around 2040, but an interruption of contact occurred in 2067, and official contact was reestablished in 2138. Though clear evidence of activity in the interim has been observed.

Government Type: Elevated Federal Democracy: Numerous levels of government exist, but all are controlled by the public through frequent and expansive elections. Representatives exist, though their actions are retroactively challenged on a regular basis to the point where they only consistently exercise power in the shortest of terms. Radical action can be taken when necessary, but is likely to be trumped in a few days if it deemed out of line. Suffrage is granted only to those who have established domicile within their jurisdiction.

Leader(s):
Chairman James Issac Athenos is the de jure head of state.
Chief Operations Officer Tybalt Verona is the de facto head of government, exercising the greatest degree of power, though for the most part, policies and practices are already regimented in official documentation and he has little purpose.

Military: The PTA doesn’t maintain a military in the strictest sense. They have a veritable force of security personnel, typically armed with little more than side arms and various non-lethal implements. They act more practically as a law enforcement organization than a military, though rapid response units are stationed on all of their installations, generally company-strength and equipped sufficiently to rival the upper echelons of any traditional military. Instead, they rely heavily on force multiplier technologies such as screening passengers, automated defensive installations, compartmentalized facilities and only locally-viable biospheres.

Demographics: Humans (enhanced via pre and postnatal genetic, mechanical and networking technologies): 62.31%; Non-human Organics (mostly Tursiops sapiens (~45%), Corvus sapiens (~30%) and Abdopus sapiens (~25%)): 18.34%; Inorganics (no distinction made between uploads or native synthetics of any perceived species in the census): 19.35%

Major Imports: Helium-3, other light elements (1-12, excluding 6)

Major Exports: Heavy elements (12+ and 6) (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=wikipedia+periodic+table&l=1), logistical services

History: With the Asteroid Boom of the 2030-40s, Pallas was targeted for development initially just as a large resource pool, though quickly the novelty of an asteroid resort destination lead to massive investment into potential terraforming of the asteroid. However, soon after construction of the gas bag was commenced and enormous resources were diverted to it to normalize the orbit, communication was lost. Transmissions prior to the blackout suggest that a revolt of some sort may have been the cause, potentially as the heavily mechanized and synthetic sapient population came to resent the power relations that had originally been established. Regardless, the relative isolation imposed by the peculiar orbit prohibited any relief efforts. For several decades, the colony remained isolated, failing to respond to any communications from the rest of the system. The gasbag around the asteroid was completed, ahead of schedule even, though the orbit was never normalized, it remains to this day, one of the most unreachable objects in the Inner System.

It appears that the engines designed for normalizing the orbit of Pallas were repurposed to altering the orbits of many other, smaller asteroids. Numerous rocks were placed in loose orbit with Pallas, and were tethered into a network of constructs, slowly; each developed rock was jettisoned from the swarm as more were brought in. For quite awhile, the purpose of jettisoning these rocks was completely unknown to the rest of the system. Each asteroid was developed extensively, and set to rotate rapidly, presumably, they were hollowed out and developed, it appeared as though docking facilities were oriented along the poles of these constructs. As time passed, it became clear that they were forming a ring around the inner edge of the Main Belt. Still no communication had been returned from the Pallas colony, and it was unclear if the ring installations were even manned, no one bothered to attempt to dock. They were regarded as a curiosity and nothing more, until asteroids began to be jettisoned out of the Main Belt. Originally believed to be an unprovoked assault, when the first of them cleared the Earth by significant margin to not be considered a threat and continued to adjust its trajectory, their purpose was determined to not be offensive, as every one of them made a near miss of the Earth and was careful to avoid hitting any other object. An excessive amount of these installations were deployed, numerous hails were made to these near-missing orbiters, some of which were returned, but nothing was made of them.

Until, that is, Pallas herself established official contact with the UN. They announced the purpose of their installations, as a sort of interplanetary railroad. The installations along the inner edge of the Main Belt were to be a string of outer stations, from which the asteroids could easily be reached. And the near-missers were the rail lines themselves. They would handle the trick of navigating from the Inner System to the Main Belt, making predictable flybys of Earth, Venus and Mars which could be used as a cheap transit infrastructure to get between the planets and asteroid, and with some orbit juggling, even to get between the planets themselves. Originally, these asteroid railways served as ferries, craft could dock with them and ride them all the way out to the main Belt, consumables supplied by the PTA, but in time, each transit asteroid developed into a colony of its own, which was monitored by the PTA to ensure security, but in general, they were anarcho-capitalist havens.

The Palladium Transit Authority did not care who its customers were, so long as you caused no trouble while onboard and you paid. A new wave of exploitation in the Main Belt soon emerged, even as WW3 ripped the Earth apart. Service was not interrupted and only 3 of 44 transit constructs were targeted in the conflict, and none of the ring installations. After the war, they continued operating exactly as they had, though very slight orbital shifts were engineered to accommodate more flybys of Mars and Venus to ensure a consistent traffic flow. And while Mercury was not added deliberately, economic transfer orbits were engineered so that Mercury-bound traffic, and thus traffic from Mercury could be possible.

Extra Information: The central element to the Palladium Transit Authority is the transit network, which functions much as a railway network. Instead of spending your own delta-v to get around the Inner System and using up your own consumables, you can ride the PTA orbits to your destination, a considerable database of burn angles and impulses has been compiled to facilitate transfers between orbits and thus a vast network of destinations that can be reached in economic timescales is possible. However, the PTA closely guards most of these and dynamic routes demand higher ticket prices, mediated by the PTA rather than handing over the astrogational data to any pilot. And because of the large number of objects that cut across various orbital paths and the drastic consequences of poor management of this system, the PTA has become something of a de facto ‘space traffic controller’ for the Inner System.

Pallas, herself, is covered in a massive sphere, plates of high-carbon polymers reinforced by bands of nanotube fibre make up the base structure, and high efficiency solar collectors cover much of that surface. Covering the inner edge of this is a film of engineered algae that can seal and repair hull breaches. And inside this film is a vast ocean, contained to the outer shell by an elastic membrane, coated on both sides by another microbe film. This serves to keep pressure on the atmosphere contained within. This sky-ocean is where most of the elevated aquatic life resides. The terrestrial population lives on the surface of Pallas, in a comfortably pressurized and terraformed environment. Around Pallas, the construction works still exist, though operating at far reduced capacity, many of the hulls-in-progress serving as auxiliary living space for Pallas, generally considered to be the lower classes of their society. Though asteroid rigolith is sufficiently rich in many resources, such as Helium-3, to be economically recovered, they continue to tax imports off the cargo that passes through their system to acquire it.

They run interplanetary trains, kay?

History:
The larges scale expansion of Humans into space in the latter half of the 21st century led to a great demand for ships of all kinds; mining vessels, transport ships, combat craft and numerous other types to fill all roles and niches. To satisfy this demand, a collective of various heavy-industry based corporations from around the globe founded the Orbital Piloted Assembly and Experiment Complex within the L4 Earth-Moon Lagrange point. The main role of this facility was simple; to provide prospective companies with a space vessel construction yard profitable only through the economies of scale afforded by such a mass of companies. The OPSEK was ultimately a success, and orders from both various governments and private individuals started to provide the companies with a return on their investment. As the expansion into space grew, so did business, with OPSEK’s proximity to Earth and zero-gravity providing the perfect environment for the construction of ships of all sizes.

The destruction of the Earth and all her nations caused a brief period of chaos for the shipyard. With a large wealth of resources and ships within the shipyard, it became a valuable target. Having declared itself a sovereign, independent entity, the TPO met attacks from various privateer forces who sought to gain control over the shipyard. The TPO contacted the UNLC requesting assisstance, who in turn helped supply the TPO with the necessary supplies to repel the privateer attacks.

With the interplanetary war now over, the TPO has grown in strength and population, and continues to grow still. The TPO remains a thankful neighbour of the UNLC of the who has become an important trade partner for the commune. The TPO has, in particular employed the logistical and navigational services of the Palladium Transport Authority in aiding TPO mining interests in the main belt, specifically providing a practical route for TPO vessels carrying freshly mined ore and various goods from the outer regions.

The situation between the PRM and the UFT causes concern within the shipyard, for fear that the standoff between the two forces will destabilise the region, propelling it into war once again. Nevertheless, the TPO tries to keep amiable relations between the two factions, trading where possible for both Martian oxygen and Titanic helium-3.

Extra Information:
The Shipyard has been expanded over the decades to house further foundries and factories as well as habitation modules.

Turrets have also been constructed onto the various sections of the Shipyard to aid in defence.

Elected in 2115 as the 29th President of the United Nations Lagrangian Colony's Congress, Mrs Verandez has been continuously elected for the past 41 years. Such was the promise of her early success that she was the first citizen in the UNLC to have been "uploaded" onto a digital format. It was a highly controversial move for the time and the Supreme Court wrestled with the concept until, exhaustedly, they found no reason to declare it unnaceptable and President Verandez remained in office.

Pragmatic and measured, Mrs Verandez has persuaded the citizens of the colony that she has their best interests at heart. However, that is as far as reality goes.

Security Forces:

Peacekeeper Navy

The UNLC's entire military force is geared towards space (Or Naval) combat and operations, in part due to its role as an Inter-solar mediator and stabiliser where a relatively immobile ground based force would be impractical. As such, it maintains a comparatively large number of craft in order to operate in several different hot-zones wherever they might arise.

It is a simple force comprising of only two variants of ships, the Carrier/Transport Crusader and the multi-purpose Fighter/Bomber Sword.

http://www.colony-wars.com/members/pix/space_ship.jpg

Length: 300 meters
Armament: Various countermeasures
Crew: 10
Ships in-tow: 45
Passengers: 90 (Nanostasis Pods for pilots)
Role: Carrier/Long range transport
Numbers: 5000

The original concept for these vessels dates back to the early stages of space colonisation, where large numbers of smaller work ships (or cargo) were effectively "carried" by much larger, almost skeletal ships in a similar fashion to the naval aircraft carriers of 20th/21st century Earth.

This space-faring incarnation was produced to enable the UN to deploy its fleet in a more directed manner, often placing such craft in orbit around smaller, less stable colonies and space habitats or as buffers between warring factions and neutral zones for a limited period of time.

Fitted with stasis pods for all pilots, the Crusader can extend deployment times far beyond those that would be expected from singular craft on their own and can maintain a presence if resupplied from either UN or allied forces. Conditions on-board are cramped as Peacekeepers are expected to remain in stasis pods at all times unless placed on high alert.

The Crusader does not fill a combat role, but is rather a support vessel from which combat ships operate, and are currently fitted with only weapon countermeasures and ablative armour as per the UN policy of non-aggression.

Following tradition, all Crusader vessels are painted white and adorned with the UNLC flag and insignia.

Length: 20 meters (slightly larger than an A-10 Thunderbolt)
Armament: 1x Multi-barreled Laser Cannon
16x Missile pods (HE or AP)
Crew: 2
Role: Multi-purpose Fighter/Bomber
Numbers: 225,000

Mass produced by the private sector under commission from the UNLC and adapted from civilian design, these craft are versatile and sturdy and fulfil a myriad of roles throughout the UNLC's (self-presumed) jurisdiction over smaller colonies, territories and neutral Inter-solar territory. Sword vessels can be found patrolling these areas as a deterrent for smugglers, performing routine checks on cargo ships for contraband (as decided under UNLC guidelines) and security roles within trouble zones.

Capable of both atmospheric and extraplanetary deployment, the Sword is capable of engaging ground, air and space targets. Although some tacticians have called for a more diverse range of craft to fulfil different roles more effectively, the Sword's design is well trusted, reliable and (benefiting from a grand economy of scale) relatively cheap to manufacture.

Following tradition, all Sword vessels are painted white and adorned with the UNLC flag and insignia on the wings and fuselage.http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/9291/kineticsoldierbyapneicm.jpg

Tasked with maintaining security and stability throughout various regions by the UNLC, these brave men and women are the mainstay of the faction's security forces outside of New Manhattan.

Heavily modified both genetically and cybernetically, these individuals are the result of pushing the boundaries of human-biological technology. Heightened reaction times combined with neural-marrying to ship control and information systems levels the playing field between biological and robotic combatants.

Further modifications to the pilot's internal organs increase efficiency of bodily functions and enable the pilot to be sustained longer with oxygen and nutritional supplements.

The only technique by which the UN maintains such a high level of active military personnel per capita is (on top of the wide use of nano-stasis pods) the relative security promised to Peacekeepers through the backup of consciousness. When on rotation, military personnel undergo this backup as part of their medical evaluation. If the individual dies, then their backup is activated and placed into a standard bioroid produced in an exo-womb. Obviously, this may have implications for the state of mind of the individual being placed into an off-the-shelf body, but upon completion of their term of service or through promotion, a tailor made bioroid will be issued as a reward.

Major Imports: Helium-3, antimatter, nitrogen and heavy machinery

Major Exports: Nanotechnology, Robotics/Cybernetics, Medical Technologies, Fusion Reactors

History:

In the early part of the 21st Century, following the global economic recession, the UN and its member states passed what became to be known as the "Stepping Stone Initiative". In this it reasoned that the only way man as a species can ascend to the heavens is through mutual co-operation and a pooling of resources to create a sustained presence in space.

This came in the form of Second International Space Station (SISS), a program funded through the global community as a means of opening up space colonisation to countries who lacked their own advanced space program. It was initially designed to be a secure and relatively safe "stepping stone" situated in the Earth-Moon L5 point which was the first region of space to fall under a defined ownership. The more powerful countries (and those that could find partners) did, of course, have their own space programs to benefit from, but the SISS continued to grow and the UN started to expand its area of influence into near-space.

The UN generated huge amounts of revenue through the combined funding of the international community and the regulation of early space travel and colonisation. It was seen by many enthusiasts to be the embodiment of Earth's interests by space and that its control over trade between the Earth and Lunar Corporations was well justified, but just as many believed it was just a greedy oversized chunk of bureaucracy. The controversial (and some might say ridiculous) "Space Tax" declared by the UN (the corporations still being largely divided and unable to resist UN legislation) on early corporate ventures on the Moon and the trade of Helium-3 back to Earth as a means of compensation for the use of the SISS was a major blow to their public image, but pushed the UN's funds through the roof.

With this newfound wealth (on top of a host of increasingly desperate nations who remained on Earth who donated huge sums of money to expand the SISS to accomodate their interests), the UN devised a phase two of their plan.

In 2070, the United Nations Lagrangian Colony was born.

Following the increase in funding, the UN flirted with the idea of a limited form of government on board the station as its interests expanded. As an international community, it attracted some of the brightest minds from all over the globe who were not either tethered by their respective Governments or concerned with a fat paycheck. The UNLC soon became a major competitor in the high-technology industry, often miraculously developing products that had previously been trade secrets.

Accusations of abuses of power and corruption were frequent as the UNLC continued to grow alongside the lunar corporations, often focussing around the acquisition of confidential information alongside official inspections.

However, with time the lunar corporations grew in strength, drew up trade agreements and began to merge into substantial entities, lessening UN influence in some areas. Fortunately for the UN, the UNLC had already established a high-tech industrial power base which soon began to support and eventually surpass the amount needed to maintain growth of the station. The station itself began to resemble more and more the aspirations of its founders as a place of learning, peace and human development with numbers of inhabitants meauring in the millions

This growth, parallelled by the majority of the solar system, continued throughout the next century. The Inner System became increasingly busy and many different factions soon materialised, all vying for power. The UN maintained a policy of ambivalence towards the larger factions, but harshly punished smaller warring factions for destabilising trade and diplomacy. It became a sort of unofficial champion for, and enforcer against, various habitats and groups. Whilst it did not comment on or support any of the larger factions as they warred, tensions remained consistently raised as flashpoints of violence arose from the UN use of naval deployments as a buffer to protect Earth's interests.

By this point, the UN had invested so much attention in the creation of the UNLC and its developing of a vast navy to keep the surrounding space of the Inner System stable and safe, it had diverted attention away from domestic issues. Despite a last-ditched effort to quell a growing sense of international disquiet (along with the hasty and quiet evacuation of important personnel and resources to the UNLC) the cradle of humanity was soon spoiled by the nuclear exchange.

The social shockwaves of this tragedy struck home hard in the UNLC, of whom many of the inhabitants had either lived on, or had immediately family on, the now dead planet. However, President Verandez was an inspiring leader who reminded the colony's citizens that they were a living testament to the success of co-operation between humanity and its capability to achieve greatness.

Now the UNLC faces a difficult position. Without the added security of the Earth behind it, necessity dictates that it should expand its interests throughout the solar system as it evolves into a wholly different entity, one that must make peace for the benefit of a stable economic and diplomatic climate. With or without the assistance of others.

Extra Information:

Home to roughly 8 million people, New Manhattan is the de-facto name for the United Nations Lagrangian Colony super-station (the term "UNLC" now more commonly used to refer to the organisation as a whole). It is a marvel of engineering and one of the largest man-made structures in existence, complete with public parks, universities and every single enjoyable aspect of civilised existence. State of the art production facilities create advanced robotics, nanotechnology, reactors and other technological marvels. Biomedical science is also a major part of the industrial base, given the high majority of the inhabitants are still biological unlike some more recently established groups.

Socially speaking, the majority of people in New Manhattan have been pacified into submission through their high standard of living and seemingly carefree lives, but recently a growing number of malcontents in the less amiable areas of the station have caused growing trouble for the security services.

The vast majority of citizens are still, more or less, human due to legislation following President Verandez's inauguration that all citizens must be essentially biological in order to vote and be elligible for human rights.

Well I know that it's quite a read but I don't do sheets by the half.

Obviously there will probably be issues with it, so I look forward to discussing them with you so I can get any wrinkles ironed out. I'm entirely open to suggestions :)

Faction Age: 23 years.

Government Type: Federal republic.

Leader(s): Orion Jameson is the president of the Federation, with several officials in lower offices, voted in by the population.

Commander Norman Martel is the commander of all UFT space and ground forces. He answers only to President Jameson.

Military: Army- The 25,000 soldiers that make up the army are mostly sapient AIs housed in robotic bodies adapted for Titan's environment. The remaining human soldiers are equipped with powered exoskeletons that possess man-portable gyrocopter systems capable of creating high-quality human flight. The soldiers are trained nearly from birth to be ruthless and efficient.

Air Force- The 20,000 pilots that are a part of the air force are completely composed of sapient AIs, who are in control of unmanned aerial vehicles adapted to the Titan atmosphere.

Space Force- Out of the 40,000 units that serve in the space force, only 7,000 are actually biological organisms. There are 29,000 spacecraft that are controlled by sapient AIs, and range in size from small drones to large attack ships. The remaining 1,100 ships are manned by people, which range from two-person fighters to twenty-person attack ships.

Species: Non-modified humans (4%), genetically-modified humans (64%), uploaded minds (22%), and sapient AIs (10%).

Major Imports: Metals and volatiles.

Major Exports: Helium-3, nitrogen, water ice, hydrocarbons, ethane.

History: In the 2070s, the United States of America found it necessary to establish an economic and military outpost on Saturn's moon Titan, due to the risk of helium-3 embargoes implemented by the Moon's major powers and Transpacific Socialist Alliance presence on Mercury. By 2082, the infrastructure for helium-3 mining from Saturn's atmosphere had been set up on Titan, and the U.S. Titan Territory had been established. For the next half-century, the United States prospered from the vast reserves of helium-3 that it could extract from Saturn, as well as the much cheaper costs for doing so. To maintain its national security, the United States began sending more and more colonists to Titan, expanded its habitats, and poured more money into the territory; this ended up saving the U.S. Titan Territory after WW3, at least for a little bit.

After the nuclear holocaust on Earth, the U.S. Titan Territory rebelled against the remnants of the U.S. government and established the United Federation of Titan. The ideas behind the revolution were had been around since U.S. Titan was established, and had slowly grown over time. The revolutionaries saw their chance during WW3 to take control. In a short but bloody civil war, the revolutionaries managed to take control of Titan with only a few pockets of resistance remaining, which were snuffed out in the following years. The UFT quickly rebounded, thanks in large part that most people on Titan felt their allegiance more to their home than to Earth and any connections with it, apart from the government and ideology of freedom.

When the Mars Territory had been overtaken by the People's Republic of Mars, the UFT responded by launching minor retaliatory strikes; however, these attacks were easily defended against by the PRM, and forced the UFT to change its strategy. As a result, the UFT found itself fighting a Cold War in outer space, where it sought to politically, economically, and militarily influence the rest of the Solar System against the PRM for its own benefit.

Extra information: There has been a recently-growing "genetic-purity" movement in the UFT, promoting less genetic modification among humans. The members of this movement believe that only humans free of genetic altering can truly be “human”, and see most anyone else as nothing but animals and mongrels.

Faction Name: The Joint-Interest Cooperative of Ganymede (referred to informally as The Coop, or Ganny)

Location: Ganymede

Population: 3 million

Faction Age: 22 years

Government Type: Joint-Interest Cooperative -- The JI Coop here described is a socially old school communistic society, without the fierce attachment to the ideology. Every citizen is seen to deserve a fair share of prosperity, given their contribution to the machinations of the Cooperative. All branches of government fall under two jurisdictions, internal and external. Controlling the internal is the President of the Cooperative. The president makes the final decision if subordinate institutions governing internal affairs cannot agree, or the president finds it necessary to intervene and exert his/her power. Governing the external branches of government (international) is the Bearded Circle. The Bearded Circle is a council of an indeterminate amount of citizens, holding their positions their entire lives, who are nominated by the people and approved by a combined vote of the Council and the President. The Council is headed by the High Potentate, who allows or disallows actions to be taken. The High Potentate is also commander in chief of the Ganny Interspace Fleet and the appointment of high officers. The Bearded Circle became so named by an old nickname given to the council by the people: the Assembly of Great Beards. The nickname became popular because of the high number of elderly and bearded members on the council. Soon after the growth in popularity of the name, the council adopted it as their official name so as to avoid taking themselves too seriously.

Leader(s):
The High Potentate -- Gnaeus Dingane, (NAY-us din-GAW-nay)
Dingane is a highly intelligent, pragmatic elderly man of royal blood from Lesotho. When the South African government annexed Lesotho in 2084, Dingane and his family went into hiding. He was seven years old when they fled his home, and another seven years would pass before he was to reappear. Dingane and a small number of his relatives were captured by authorities while attempting to board an Australian borne vessel in Cape Town. Because Dingane was only a boy he was not imprisoned, but sent to a reeducation center. There, to their shock, Dingane's captors found out about the powerful and independent mind that he had forged throughout the years. Not only was Dingane highly resistant to their brain washing techniques, but further tests revealed that Dingane, despite being in exile, had received a world class education, excelling at the arts, social sciences, and economics.

The government gave Dingane a deal, much like they would do with so many Australian prisoners of war. They offered Dingane freedom, not in South Africa, but in the moons of Uranus and Neptune. Dingane accepted their proposal and joined the other recruited colonists as they prepared for the launch. After the disaster and eventual relocation to Ganymede, Dingane proved himself in settling disputes. He had become well-versed in South African law and established himself as an adviser to his fellow colonists, helping them navigate the sprawling bureaucracy that choked their lives on Ganymede. Once he became of age, Dingane was nominated to the position of Governor General of Ganymede, against the wishes of the government Earth side. The government decided not to intervene, though they could have, because of Dingane's great popularity and the fact that he could easily tear logical holes in the South African system of government on Ganymede.

Dingane, now a man in his late 70s, is widely regarded as the wisest man on Ganny. Dingane has, since arriving in Ganymede, undergone many cybernetic upgrades to his person. Both his legs are now mechanical, as well as his left eye with an installed AG interface. A highly respected, kind, calculating man, Dingane was nominated High Potentate immediately after the ensuing chaos of WW3, and survives today not only as a leader of The Coop but as the embodiment of Ganymede's spirit.
President -- Arkady Cohen
Arkady Cohen was born on Ganymede. From childhood he expressed a profound intelligence for his age, constantly tinkering with machines and electronics. It seemed as though engineering was his calling. Cohen spoke to machines through lines of code as easily as we speak to one another. By his late 20s, no one in Ganymede could profess a higher level of knowledge in any technical field than Cohen.

An incredibly eccentric and sharply sarcastic man, Cohen often embarks on tremendous projects, epic in scale, simply because he feels like it. His inventions often prove extremely useful to The Coop, so no one minds the money spent on his whimsical ventures. From more efficient habitat air filtration units to his signature Bite Me 3000 AI program, Cohen has established himself as a great, and popular, asset to the Ganny people. Cohen often denounces his own popularity, however, and openly despises the title of President. He is much more fond of the title "His Honorable Badass".

Now in his late 40s, Cohen has made cybernetic upgrades readily available to the Ganny people, who prefer them over more expensive enhancements. Cohen himself has several upgrades of his own design: an AR system programmed into his glasses, two mechanical biceps, a mechanical thumb and index finger on his right hand he uses for hacking**, and his pride and joy, a neural processing component that makes up the entire left half of his brain. The component allows Cohen's thoughts to race competitively to that of a computer. Though not as calculating as a computer himself, Cohen often abuses his quick thinking for snappy, often offensive comebacks to render his opponents mentally defenseless.

**Cohen's kind of hacking normally involves ripping something apart and rearranging its insides until it looks pretty enough for him.

Military:
Ground forces -- The Ganny Coop Militia makes up the whole of ground forces on Ganymede. There are around 7,000 members of this organization, who are largely cybernetically enhanced humans with a hodgepodge amount of weaponized gadgets integrated into their bodies. In addition to that there is a small division of some 1,000 armed track vehicles, operated by uploaded minds, that make regular patrols through both Coop and unclaimed Ganny spaces. They vary in weaponry from armor to anti-air.

Space forces -- The Ganny Interspace Fleet is doubtless the more well-funded of the branches of military in the Coop. The fleet is manned by some 110,000 men and women who operate in excess of 20,000 space faring ships predominantly of small size, Though all ships are military grade the majority are primarily used as trading vessels, peddling the various goods their beloved Ganny offers. It is worthy of note that because of the fleet's extensive experience in the various skills required to hock goods throughout the system's many moons and asteroids, all pilots are remarkable at orbital maneuvers and asteroid field navigation.

Species: Cybernetically-modified human (80%), uploaded minds (14%), genetically-modified humans (5%), sapient AIs/uplifted animals (1%).

Major Imports: Helium-3, antimatter, nitrogen, metals, volatiles

Major Exports: Silicon, water ice, and various electronics ranging from guidance systems to modded AR interfaces.

History: With the burden of wealth acquired from the successful invasion of the Australian west, South Africa, in 2092, found it an appropriate time to join the world powers in space colonization. Previous efforts had been made by the South African government to create colonies on the moon and Mars, but all operations had been canceled by the 2080s due to the recently declared war on Australia. Once the dust kicked up by war had settled, South Africa set its eyes to the far, and yet untouched, Neptunian and Uranian moons. South Africa thirsted for its only readily available supply of helium-3 and there stood ample and unclaimed supplies.

And so South Africa build its own habitat, with the help of the SISS, and launched it out into the cold reaches of space. The habitat was manned by a number of South African scientists, mechanics, military personnel, and a considerable number of Australian prisoners. South Africa had also gone to its Australian prisoners and offered for volunteers to man the mission with the incentive of freedom on the moons. Many volunteered, but a select few were chosen out a combined pool of both the least dangerous and most productive prisoners. Though the habitat was launched with high expectations, it never reached its final destination. An exhaust malfunction forced a premature docking on Europa, at the Biotech Euphrates headquarters. The exhaust damage had precipitated an unforeseen amount of fuel loss, leaving the habitat unable to finish its journey. After considerable deliberation, the South African government decided to use their remaining fuel to launch off of Europa and land on the nearby unoccupied moon of Ganymede.

At the Ganymede colony things were tough, their initial incident ensured they would continually be short on energy. South Africa pooled large amounts of money into the colony in the hopes that a return on their investment would be met, but to no avail. Though throwing money at the situation didn't help, a man did. The 25 year old Arkady Cohen had, for his thesis at the Ganymede community college, devised of an ingenious device to triple the output of helium-3 reactors, much to the unbridled joy of both the colonists and the heads back on Earth.

South Africa would not revel in this victory for long, as it was annihilated the following year. Once contact was broken the colonists began to panic, but within a month's time Dingane and the now Dr. Arkady Cohen had pooled their resources to inspire enough faith in the colonists that they pledged loyalty to the both of them. With the help of a number of other intellectual citizens Dingane and Cohen devised the JI Cooperative, not only a practical solution to their problems, but a message to the colonists that they were all in this mess together, better or worse. The Cooperative has since those 22 years ago undergone many changes to its structure, resulting in the administration seen today.

Extra Information: Arkady Cohen once negotiated a trading partnership with the Solar Collective, which stands strong today. The long standing trade agreement of silicon for antimatter has created soft relations between The Coop and the Collective, thanks in part to Cohen's masterful way with machines.
