This will be edited in the future to reflect current situation/interest(s).

So, first off, I'd like to say that I'm not insanely active but I do like some measurable activity. I get that some people can only post once a month, but if I'm involved in an RP, I'd like a little more than that. I'll try to be active enough to keep either of us from getting bored as well.

Second...not necessarily looking for romance, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

And third...thought I'd jump in if I could, see what's what. Came here to RP, might as well RP...right? So yeah. Best way to get started is with a 1x1, I think. I think that ship has sailed. Or...flown. (GEII)

So, I've been playing Fallout 4 (my only major exposure to the series, sadly) and Skyrim a lot. Dunno exactly what I want here but that seems to have influenced me quite a bit lately. I always have half-formed bad ideas bouncing around in my head, most of which perish. In fantasy settings, I most often play magic-oriented characters but I have played a little bit of everything. But I want something a little bit different, and I've been wondering how to combine FO4 and Skyrim in a way that's not completely dysfunctional.

The only thing I could think of was a post-apocalyptic Skyrim, such as if (as an example) the Great Collapse affected a much broader portion of Skyrim than just Winterhold or maybe using the civil war as a historical backdrop for some of its less fortunate victims. Didn't quite seem to fit right but it might be an idea for later.

On the other hand, I wouldn't mind throwing in a somewhat action-oriented sci-fi RP. I have one of those half-formed probably bad ideas I mentioned rattling about in my brain right now that has something to do with a pair of hip-holstered futuristic pistols, short-shorts and a crop top, and a whole lot of attitude. Also, he's probably not the manly type and the gender binary can go bite itself in the rear for all he cares. But honestly, that's as far as the character's gotten.

But overall, not sure exactly what I want to play, so maybe throw up what you're currently obsessing over and we can figure something out? Best way to contact me is PM; I'd also say discord, but that's up to you if you want to exchange discord info with me.

Anyway...um...sign in blood on the dotted line? And maybe we can have some fun.

Penelope, called Pen by those who know her best, has an above-average talent for magic simply because she spends more time working and practicing than socializing; she's not particularly adept at socialization, and so she focuses on what she can do. She has an exceptional talent for defensive and protective spells in particular. This is not to say that all she does is study magic, however.

Pen was taught the violin in her youth by her muggle grandfather on her mother's side. She enjoys reading and writing, and has based a series of discreetly published romantic adventure novels on some of the contents of her diary, which she has kept since she was very young. Her novels, under the pen name Penny Gillespie, are titled (in order) Penny Dreadful's Dreamscape, Penny Dreadful's Dream Escape, Penny Dreadful's Nightmare, Penny Dreadful's Daymare, and Penny Dreadful's Daydream; the novels, about three to four hundred pages long and basically the wizarding equivalent of pocket paperbacks, are popular mostly among teen girls and women in their twenties and thirties. She's finished Penny Dreadful's Awakening, which has yet to be published but is in the process, and is currently working on Penny Dreadful's Reawakening.

Pen also paints, mostly landscapes; with her current book intended to be the last one in her series, she will probably spend more time painting than writing once it's published. For now, painting is mostly a way for her to relax when she doesn't feel like playing or writing.

Though her mother figured it out by reading her novels and some who know her (or of her) have speculated, only Pen's mother is fully aware that Pen is a lesbian. Her mother never told her father, as she - like Pen herself - considers it a private thing that Pen will reveal when she's ready to do so. Penny Dreadful, the titular character of Pen's novels, is much more open and adventurous than Pen herself is; this includes her sexuality, which is how Pen's mother figured it out.

Pen is left-handed and has ocean-blue eyes and natural strawberry blonde hair. She stands five-foot-one and is stocky but there is little fat on her body. Despite her gift for music, she seems to have two left feet when it comes to dancing. She is a very honest person, having no inclination or apparent skill in deceit, and is usually selfless. She hates being the centre of attention and apparently has a habit of blushing a deeper red than a tomato when she is embarrassed or angry.

Pen lives with her parents and older brother, a dishwater-blonde Beauxbatons ninth-year with pale blue eyes named Artur Dorian Beauchene, on a one-acre piece of property a few miles east of Bordeaux; her brother, unlike Pen, is tall and muscular. A large garden and small vineyard provide the majority of the family’s food and drink; there’s also a large well, a stable holding several horses, and a number of magical creatures used for their resources. A few barn and brown owls nest in the rafters of the stable and are made use of by Pen’s family; since she doesn’t have an owl of her own, however, she uses the school’s owls as necessary while attending. Pen loves puffskeins and keeps several as pets, though only two accompany her to Beauxbatons.

*It has been theorized that Beauxbatons students start earlier than Hogwarts students; therefore, I figure they might start at 9 instead of 11. This would allow them to get through nursery school and the first three years of elementary school, thereby teaching them the basics that they would need to know. Wizarding schools likely teach mundane academic subjects as a separate set of lessons from their arcane-oriented classes. So for a Beauxbatons student, in comparison with a Hogwarts student, any year identification is going to be two years ahead; thus, a Beauxbatons seventh-year would be the same age as a Hogwarts fifth-year. They would graduate at around the same time, but they would be graduating from their ninth year instead of their seventh.

The following information is not known to any, including his family, with the exception of tidbits there would be no reason or plausible means by which to hide.

Artur is the first-born of the Beauchene family but this does not mean that he is more powerful than his sister. He excels at potions as well as the casting of jinxes, hexes, and curses but is otherwise relatively average. He has bribed several younger students at Beauxbatons to do his bookwork for him and relay the important information necessary to learn spells and potions, and despite his well-known congenial nature, he discreetly frightens those who work for him using scare tactics and subtle threats of dark magic. He has always had a bit of a mean streak, though it’s mostly come out as pranks ranging from not-quite-completely-harmless to downright dangerous. He has always been on mostly neutral terms with his sister, though she has never liked his pranks and neither have their parents.

While taking a casual flight about the mountains surrounding Beauxbatons one afternoon in his fourth year, however, he happened upon the ruins of a small village buried in snow and ice hundreds of years ago. What little of it that remains is set into the side of a mountain and haunted by a mysterious ghost. Only a handful of wizards and witches who have studied the magical history of the area have any idea that the ruins exist, but none of them know its origin or its fate. The ghost claims to have once been a wizard in the employ of a minor French nobleman, though the centuries have lost the name to his memory, and supposedly used magic to manipulate him; he also claims to know much about the village and its demise, yet he has staunchly refused to divulge anything to Artur except periodic knowledge of wizarding history and dark magic.

It was Artur’s frequent visits to the ghost that revealed to him a rumor about “the darkest magic of all”. The only bookwork that Artur has done extensively himself is that which has helped him to gain a deep understanding of dark magic, and most of what he has studied was hinted at by the ghost. While the modern laws against dark magic are extremely limited, there is no doubt that discovery of his private study and practice would cause him to be reviled in everyone’s eyes. It is this “darkest magic”, however, that he spent the bulk of two years tracking down the method of based on what the ghost told him. He had to steal books, sneak out to places he wasn’t supposed to be in, and spend a lot of time in Knockturn Alley in order to learn how to do it. The ghost seemed to shudder when he spoke of it and was hesitant to name it when he did, but Artur’s insistence prompted him to do precisely that. The ghost only knew of one other person off-hand that had successfully practiced it - the dark wizard Voldemort, known in France as “le sans-nom” (“the nameless”).

The ghost called this dark magic a horcrux.

It is believed by the rest of Artur’s family that his paternal great-grandfather on his father’s side (i.e. the father of his father’s father) died of a rare and debilitating magical disease of unknown origin; after his death, his life was honored and his body was given to St. Mungo’s for study. This secretly infuriated Artur, who had hoped to use the body after it was buried; housing it at St. Mungo’s made it nigh impossible to access. Nevertheless, the true cause of the elderly man’s death was a combination of curses that manifested as an unknown illness - a compound curse, essentially, of Artur’s own invention.

While this was his first murder, it served as a stepping stone to a truly dark path. He used the old man’s murder to split his soul in half; the fragment he tore from his body he stored inside a fauchard (a medieval French polearm) hanging above the mantle in the family’s sitting room. The original was supposedly wielded during the Siege of Orléans, yet it was lost some time after this and replaced as a symbolic heirloom several generations ago to represent an important part of the family’s history. What better symbol, then, in which to place a fragment of Artur’s now-split soul?

Since that time, though most have noticed no significant change in his demeanor, his parents and sister have both noticed that his smiles and laughter seem somehow forced or hollow. He once enjoyed his sister’s violin but no longer seems to notice it, as though the music does not affect him in the slightest. He also seems to have kept to himself more and more, while a couple of his closest friends have become more casual friends to him of late. He seems less fazed by negativity in the news or in general than he used to be. And yet, there does seem to be a disturbing sort of light in his eyes, as though he is a different person - one that’s slightly off-putting, but not in a way anyone can quite figure out. His apparent silent brooding could be written off as merely the work of his teenage mind, a normal process through which many teens go, but the rest - however subtle it may be - is a rather serious departure from the boy he used to be. These are obviously side effects from the creation of his horcrux, though no one yet knows this. He has placed numerous protective spells on the fauchard, which have added a secondary layer to the protective spells that are usually renewed periodically to protect the symbolic heirloom, ensuring that no one will discover what is now its true nature until he wants them to.

Artur has yet to puzzle out how to create inferi, though he is fascinated by the idea. His intention is to perfect the curse and present a successful inferius to the scholars of the wizarding world as a plausible form of labor and possibly as a means by which to promote further study of death and other related matters. Most seem to believe that the creation of inferi is theoretical at best, absolutely ludicrous at worst, despite rumors among dark wizards, ghosts, and certain non-human magical beings (e.g. hags) that Voldemort managed to create them on multiple occasions.

Regardless of his intentions, even before creating his horcrux - an incredible achievement in his own eyes and a secret he holds with great pride - Artur’s pleasant smiles and friendly nature always harbored a (thus far) well-hidden streak of cruelty, selfishness, and arrogance. It doesn’t help that several muggles who have gotten lost in the mountains surrounding Beauxbatons over the last few years have been victims of his testing of various spells and potions. He has used his sister’s gift for defensive magic as a tutor for his own concealment and protection spells, which - while not quite as potent as those of his younger sister - have prevented his activities from being discovered by magic-folk.

In addition to the ruined village’s ghost, and pointed toward her by said ghost, a hag who lives in a cave system somewhere in the Himalayas has helped Artur expand his knowledge of the dark arts. In return for rare potion ingredients that he has stolen, she has provided him with potions that will further his studies and a surprising wealth of knowledge about dark creatures, potions, and spells. The hag uses her own potions to control two trolls that dwell nearby, protecting and helping her as need be.

Artur, having obtained his license to apparate and disapparate freely, often spends his free time alone when not at school and visits the ghost and the hag frequently. He covers his tracks well and does not use direct apparition or disapparition; he has taken instead to preferring “safe spots” nearby and magic to aid him in traveling to their locations on foot. The natural landscape has hidden the ruins well, but concealment spells have further hidden it and allowed him to create unauthorized portkeys that make his discreet travel easier. His tactics and his penchant for secrecy, interesting qualities that only further mark him as his sister’s almost exact opposite, have allowed him to accomplish much despite his youth. Seeing that he is now in his ninth year at Beauxbatons, he fully believes that he has much more still to accomplish and plenty of time in which to accomplish it.

I would love to roleplay with your Potter verse stories if you're still looking. I'd like to see what your first character would do in a situation with someone who naturally excels in magic instead of putting time and effort into it like she does.

On the other hand, I would derby what the brother would do if someone praised him for his use of dark magic, even going as far as to help him. Would be sink lower into power lust or would he see the error of his ways? Both very interesting characters and I would love to roleplay with them.
