To christen our Arena, we, the staff of RPA, invite all comers to participate in what is sure to be a bloodbath. We are looking for fighters to test their skills in the first annual Rumble on RPA

To enter, simply post the name of the character you wish to use with a link to your character sheet thread(you may also link us directly to the post). Entrants will be accepted Until December 21, after which, we'll get the festivities underway.

This will be a single elimination event, meaning, once you're out, you're out. The fighters will be randomly paired up against one another (in the event of an uneven amount of entrants, one entrant will receive a first round bye, this will also be randomly selected) The winners in the first round will then go against each other, and so on until we have a winner.

Once the pairings are determined, the judges will set up a thread in The Colosseum, along with a description of the terrain you will be fighting in. Please note that there may be other things that can hurt you that aren't your opponent

Now for the rules.

1) You may enter only one character in this event.

2) Each battle will last twenty posts(10 to each combatant).

3) The decision of the judges is final. Arguing with a judge or whining because you don't like a decision is not acceptable.

4) If you feel that your opponent is in violation of the rules, PM the judge for that battle.

5) Battles will be judged based on the following criteria;

Writing style
Effectiveness of combat (How realistic/logical is the combat. Do the battle sequences make sense?)
Control of the field (how well the participants use their surroundings and respond to events)

6) All other Battle Arena and RPA rules are in effect

7) You must read and follow the instructions of the judge in the first post of the battle. Failure to do so will result in an automatic disqualification.

So for the thousands in attendance, and the millions watching all over the world.

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLET'S GET READY TO RUUUUMBLE

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up for the regular battles. The Rumble will be each of you picking one character and then we will randomly pair them off and provide settings for them to fight in.

Can we enter a character into this and a different fight at the same time?

So say I enter my character into this tournament, could I also brush up on my fighting skills with a completely separate fight with a friend at the same time?

Also can we re-use these characters in later fights and tournaments despite any death/dismemberment/disgrace they may suffer?

(With moderator approval of course ;))

Lord Xarel
12-18-2010, 03:10 AM
Name: Xarel "The Phantom" Lumenatrum
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Race: He looks human...
Build: Xarel is rather short for a young man at the height of 5'6", but he is stocky. He is what we call a literal big-boned person, sine his body holds more muscle than it looks. He weighs a solid two-hundred pounds of muscle, if that says anything.
Hair: Xarel has dirty blonde hair that, when not in a ponytail, goes to the middle of his back. When in a ponytail, it only goes past his shoulders.
Eyes: Xarel has dark hazel eyes that seem to shine in the darkest of places...

Distinctive features: Xarel has a magical scar in the shape of a perfect circle on the back of his neck. On the back of both of his hands is a tattoo of the Ace of Spades, but they have a faded look because of Xarel's tanned skin.

Clothes: Xarel always dresses up nicely, even in battle. He is seen wearing a black business suit with a blood-red tie and black dress boots. He also usually wears a black fedora hat, and takes great pride in it.

Weapon(s): Xarel uses no weapons, personally believing that the human body is the perfect weapon. His style of fighting is a fusion of Drunken Boxing, Caeporia, and Judo. Each one of those styles specialize in a different aspect of battle. Drunken Boxing focuses on punches, while Caeporia focuses on kicks, and then you get Judo, which uses mainly throws. Xarel has fused these styles into something unique, making Xarel look like he is dancing with his enemy when fighting. Another thing, do not be expecting for Xarel to be slow. He will hit you fast and will hit you hard, but not as hard as say a professional MMA fighter.

Abilities: Since Xarel has mastered Drunken Boxing, Caeporia, and Judo, you can expect him to be using the moves involved with those three, especially the short, but fast, combos he loves to use. Along with this, however, he has a nearly perfect mastery of his chi, allowing him to input a certain amount of energy into each attack. Every now and then though, he will lose control and start flying kicks and punches able to demolish cars. If that happens, he will be extremely tired afterward.

Teleportation- Xarel is able to teleport thanks to the scar on his neck. The distance he teleports affects his fatigue. The farther away he goes, the more energy he consumes. When only teleporting, say, behind someone though, he uses very little energy, but they happen to stack up quickly. This does not require a charge up, but Xarel does need to have a cool down period if he teleports a short distance a lot or teleports far away. If he teleports a short distance a lot or far away once, he will need a turn of rest.

IMPACT! – A charge attack. Xarel charges up his Chi into an attack and releases it at close to mid range. It is usually used as a distraction, able to kick up sand, rocks, etc. to block a person's vision, but Xarel has used it as an attack, but that only happens if he is extremely close to his opponent, increasing the damage to the point it would feel like someone getting hit by a car going fifty mph. This attack consumes a lot of Xarel's energy, so don't expect it to be used more than twice. Due to the need of energy for this attack, Xarel will be tired afterwards, and will need a cooldown time of two turns.

Other abilities/attributes: Xarel, thanks to his extensive training in martial arts and his scar, has senses rivaling that of a Buddhist priest. He is also very fast and has confidence in his abilities.

With all of these strengths, however, comes a rather big weakness. Xarel does not have the strength that comes with martial arts training. He can be easily over-powered, unless he has lost control of his Chi, but even then he will become tired. Another thing is that Xarel is prone to becoming impatient...

Personality: Xarel is a man of intelligence, believing you should have several back-up plans for everything. He is also a man of laughs, loving to be able to toy with people and making them angry. In battle, however, he is different. He holds up a sense of honor, and he will not fight those he deems unworthy, but he always holds up one rule. "If all else fails, cheat." He is never afraid of following that rule, since it has saved him many times in the past. He is also a firm believer in that everyone has a dark side that lies in wait, coming out only when the opportunity presents itself.

Background: Xarel was born on an autumn's cold night, coming into a family that holds up traditional values. He followed these values throughout his life without question, until his family was taken away by... something. Xarel has no idea what the something is, but he knows that the "something" knocked him out and left a scar in the shape of a perfect circle. Xarel seemingly disappeared from the face of the earth afterwards, until he was seen in a martial arts temple in Japan. It was there that he learned his current values and skills. It was also here that he found out the scar he had received gave him the ability to teleport, something he decided to use to find his family.

Xarel did find his family, but they were dead. Xarel did learn though that his family had received the same scar he had, which meant that the killer of his family did that to him. Xarel kept a level head about this and went back to the temple to train his chi. While he has not mastered it, he has a great amount of control over it, and now he is out, still searching for his family.

My entrant into the fray. I would love to show everyone what I can do here.

The Magnan
12-18-2010, 10:11 AM
Just realised i didnt specify my character from the black dragon legion. It is Magnafire the Magnan.

Name: Magnafire
Alias: 'The Magnan'
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Race: Magnan
Build: Quite muscular
Hair: Short spiked and brown
Magnan Features: Although visibly human in shape, Magnans have pointier ears, darker hair, and the hands are permantly singed due to there control of magnan fire.

Clothes: Magnafire's armour resembles a black dragon, with light but large spiked pauldrons that look like the tips of wings of a dragon. His helmet is forged into a dragons head.

http://roeljovellanos.com/cblog/uploads/characters/BruteDragonArmor.serendipityThumb.jpg

Weapon(s): Blade Edge

http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt223/mohawkian92/Dragons/fire-sword3.jpg

Ring of Fire: Keeps his powers stable, and recharges his ability over time. Never used during the trials of Intent.

Abilities: The Magnans posses control over fire. Many have come to master its power to bring to destruction. And even bring life.

The Magnan ball: Standard fireball, which charges quickly, and is extremely hot. Even if it misses, it may cause splash damage/

Dragons breath: spiral of fire of which looks like the head of a dragon and even breaths fire. Depending on the size it may take a day for such an ability to recharge. Its capable of causing wide spread panic.

Dragon smoke: a fiery smoke screen which magnans retreat through, leap through, and use there combined fire power to rise a wall of fire. Whilst others fire arrows into oppenents. Considered a tactical retreat

Hail of fire : fiery hail falls from the sky. Takes a lot of energy and can only be used once. Works well on large groups.

The Magnan Dance: Is the name of Magnafires fighting style, relies on movement and counters/blocks, and parries. Before going on an offense. Also the heat radiating from his sword can burn the metal of an enemies blade if they continue fighting. But this a very rare thing.

Personality: The Magnans have become known for being brutal and even barbaric at times, however Magnafire is a contrast to that, he is friendly, loyal, and will die for his people. Of course his anger is at time volatile and used to control his legions of exhiles.

Background:

It began with the exhile of the Black Dragon Legion, due to their loyalty shifting to the dragon lord Dercas. Magnafire's father had been Magniek former general of the legion, and he and his men had been forced to live in the brutal wasteland of Sycane. Until the day Dercas found them the dragon fort. With a city of dieing people. The exiled Magnans took leadership, and in the coming years the city prospered.

Once Magnafire had reached the relevant age he was forced to craft his own sword in the baron wasteland. The sword would be him, and he be the sword. He was then sent into the trial of intent. What followed was brutal task of solving the riddle of the laybrinth. After a week he returned, scarred mentally more than physically. That was just the start of the training. Over a six year period Magnafire was taught how to survive in the wasteland, use nature as a means of building shelter, cleaning his weapon, disabling an enemy, and importantly control of fiery gift.

With the death of his father, Magnafire ventured with an army to bring down those who banished him. He lay siege to Firetop Mountain. But he did not expect to come up against the Blood Burners. And as he retreated he collided with the army of arcane. Shadow. It was an endless fight but eventually he reached home, and as the darkness swept the land he rose to general of the Dragon Legions

John
12-18-2010, 04:31 PM
Awwww. I was so looking forward to the brawler.

Anyway, due mostly to the holidays giving us a severs lack of time right now, we are extending the time frame for submissions to the 26th. This gives more people time to get character in, and gives us time to go through them all. I would also like to note that this new date is subject to change if we get too bogged down.

I would like to mention that a few of you need to put how long a particular ability lasts and cooldown times and whatnot according to the updated rule in the character creation thread. (if anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me)

Magnan, I see two characters in your thread, would I be correct in assuming you are using the first one?

Alright, here goes.

splicer - Accepted

Hig - You need some time limits and uses per battle for your abilities, maybe some charging and cooldown times as well.

Awean - Accepted. Be careful with pickpocketing.

Atrum - Accepted pending a question. Is the teleportation at will or does it have a cool down time?

spirits - Already told you, no way. Nah, you're accepted XD

Magnan - Accepted pending adding how long the Dragon Smoke lasts as well as specifically in turns or posts the fireball takes to charge (given you said quickly, I am assuming one turn, but would like it on the sheet please.

Dash - Nice to see you made yourself XD Accepted

Xarel - Accepted

KKOD - Give me a little to give it a re-read again.

Awean8
12-19-2010, 04:43 AM
Hmmm....Can you site an example of how pickpocketing could be abused so I'll make sure not to do it.

John
12-19-2010, 04:55 AM
By not giving the opponent the chance to make it unsuccessful if you take my meaning.

Ace of Hearts™
12-19-2010, 04:56 AM
Well, you could steal a weapon off someone.

Awean8
12-19-2010, 06:53 AM
Hmmm....I'm going have to readjust some of my strategies although pickpocketing is mostly just for enraging his foes by taking personal items of sentimental value.

John
12-19-2010, 07:03 AM
But understand, removing an item from another character without their permission, is godmodding. Anyone who godmods will get an instant disqualification. Not saying you can't pickpocket, but you have to have permission from your opponent. You can also leave it entirely up to them if you are successful as well, by initiating the action and leaving the outcome up to them.

Now, some good news. It's time to announce the prizes!!!

First Place: A lovely trophy which I will show off tomorrow and 100 rep points

Second Place: 50 rep points

Third Place: 25 rep points

TheDashingRogue

I don't think any tournament is based on "I challenge you", usually the line up is pre-made once all the entrants are in.

A little like this:

(Ignore the "Groups" section, this is the only image I could find - so read from the second line)

http://www.aisee.com/graph_of_the_month/euro2008.png
The first pairings would be selected by the judges and then it would carry on from there.

The Magnan
12-19-2010, 11:20 AM
Makes sense, but can you put an open challenge and wait for someone to challenge you. I know its a tournment, but thats what confuses me, if you can leave open challenge then it'll either be on a Wasteland or something.

Gunnison
12-19-2010, 11:57 AM
Open challenges are seperate, one off events that have nothing to do with the official tournament standings. Imagine, if you will, that open challenges are Football "friendlies between countries, but the RPA Rumble tournament is the European Championship, officially judged and with championship winners.

Not that I want to criticise your character or anything, but I refuse to fight her if she's only 13. Sure you can't up the age to 18/19?

Its been a while since I've played this character. Some of the RPA oldies may remember this person.

Name: Kriss Mui
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Race: Supposedly human
Hair: Dark. Looks black, but in certain light has a slight blue tint
Build: Lightweight, but very agile and powerful
Height: around 174cm
Eyes: Black. However, have been known to flash red and even gold during stress.

Distinctive features: Multiple scars on his back running vertically, caused by a previous battle.

Clothes: Though he came to this time period with a longcoat and modern day wear, Kriss was unable to find a way back to his own time, and so has instead purchased several outfits more fitting for the time period. One of which is an Akido gi, which he wears to most battles.

Weapons: a No Daichi which is summoned from seemingly nowhere. There are several ways that the No Daichi can appear, from just materializing in Kriss’ hand, to falling from the sky and impaling itself in the ground for Kriss to pick up.

Abilities:
『Psycho Frame Network』
A series of spirit fibre wires criss-cross over Kriss’s body. They increase his physical ability by a huge margin, allowing him to move with high speed and flexibility. In addition to this, the fibre wires can also snap, blasting energy out in one direction. This can be used to create a quick speed boost in any direction without the need to be touching the ground, therefore letting him dash in the air as well, or amplify the impact of an attack, or to neutralize an incoming projectile. The Network will reform very quickly.
The rules of Psycho Frame Network are as follows
--Starts with three charges, which is the maximum number.
--Using a dash or parry uses up a charge
--As long as there is a charge on PFN, he gets the bonus to physical ability.
-If Kriss did not use up any charges during a post, at the END of that post ONE charge will be restored.

『Divine Blade - Power Void』
The sword that Kriss summons. The sword has the ability to neutralize magic and superatural abilities which aren't enchanted or otherwise associated by contact with a physical source. Of course, if its too powerful it won't work out that way.

Other Abilities/attributes:
-Good cook
-Competent swordfighter and martial artist

Personality: Calmly confident. Is not afraid to fight with the best.

Background: Kriss Mui seemed to have been involved in a time travel accident, taking him from his world into the past. Currently, he is unable to do anything to get back to his present, but he is most definitely searching: time travellers must have come back to every imaginable time to view events and to view history first hand. Well, at least he’d hope so.

He decided though, the best idea would be to make history, and then await rescue, and what better way to do it than to become an arena champion?

Well, there were several other ways, but he guessed that this was the quickest, and right now he needed to blow off some steam. After all, the past would still be around, right?

I like the sheet Ten. Two things, you need to create a character thread here in the barracks for this and all your characters. I would also like to know how long, in posts or turns the ability lasts for as well as cooldown and recharge times as applicable.. Do that up and you are accepted.

I've added something about the sword so that he isn't a one trick pony.

Anyway, the cooldowns for a Psycho Frame Network EX Burst will be as follows
-Starts with three charges, which is the maximum number.
-Using a dash or parry uses up a charge
-As long as there is a charge on PFN, he gets the bonus to physical ability.
-If Kriss did not use up any charges during a post, at the END of that post ONE charge will be restored.

The Blade Edge is complicated, when a Magnan forges there first blade, they pour everything into it. from Raw power too intelligence. It is part of Magnafire, it knows him and he knows it. An unusual friendship, but neither can betray eachother. Because one cant exist without the other. When The Magnan dies, so does its sword.

Play Elder Scrolls 4. Umbra is part of what in my mind was one of the cooler quests in the game.

Ace you're in. And the OP has been updated. If I missed anyone, let me know.

well Auki. having a sheild to block fireballs that with no doubt (I think) you have a resistance to. would be a plus. the sheild is to block say your tail or claws that would hurt a ton if it hit. and after a few turns, the spear bounces off your scales.
I planned my character out to need to hop out of the way of those painful blows and get a few hits in tops.

by the way Auki. Ever think of using your size? simply put extend wings a bit and charge? then use the edge of the arena as another weapon? Or fly up a little bit (be out of reach and range of many attacks) and then use your hind talons to both rake, and grab. Assuming that is the intent other than pinning someone under you and start pulling away at their flesh. Then it is a matter of not breaking your back.

I got a few ideas. Take my word Auki, if played right, your dragon would be whooping some serious toosh. I mean who else gets sacrificial offerings not to destroy their towns? I just get a few high fives and then pass out till the next day. Or have my cat buddy drop a coin in the center field for all you ADD people. (it is shiny)

you don't need to see what the other senses pick up. you cannot walk on gravel silently. (I look forward to a battle with you. would give memories.) could do a t-rex to a triceratops. break a horn. witch translates to, break the weapons. be brutal. I want to see someone have to climb in her mouth and pull out someones leg from inbetween your teeth.

Auki
12-20-2010, 03:16 PM
See, I'm more than aware how to use a normal dragon to my advantage.

But Ruan is old and diseased - Half the stuff you described would do more damage to her than anyone else.

I'm not complaining - It's going to be fun to play her. Playing a normal dragon would just be darn boring.

And yeah Magnan, it looks like it's going to be pretty epic. Dashing created an awesome character.

might I say this auki. a walking pace for her ruan is pretty fast for us small people. havn't you seen godzilla. he walks and catches the running people. and old age. did not put that in. how about a game of cards. (no cheating by looking at my cards with height advantage.)

which now I want to do...

Auki
12-20-2010, 04:56 PM
When I say walking pace, I mean like the walking pace of a 90-year-old woman with her zimmer-frame - Seeing as Ruan is pretty much the dragon equivilent of that. She may be able to get up to the sprinting speed of human if she makes the effort but she limps, she wheezes and after covering half-the-distance of the arena, she would likely be out of breath. Just saying - Not really on par with Godzilla.

Here is Amleth's profile. He's a little bit unorthodox, and I understand a few things might need to be tweaked. Let me know what's acceptable and what's not, and I'll make any necessary edits.

Oh, and merry X-mas everyone!

Name: Amleth (No known surname)
Age: Exact age unknown (Likely 25-30)
Gender: Male
Race: Alk; mostly a technicality of sorts, as his world knows not of the term "human".
Build: Amleth stands at just under 6 feet tall, with a medium build given the physique you would come to expect of a miner. His skin was once a pale white as a child, but time has now rendered it stained with a faint tinge of black.
Hair: This Alk's hair was naturally white but years in the mine has rendered it stained gray. For the sake of pragmatism, he never wears his thick, straight hair any longer than his neck
Eyes: His eyes are hazel, so pale to the point that those who see his face often mistake him as blind. Round, with very small pupils.

Distinctive features: Over the years, Amleth has been endowed with a number of scars, ranging in placement from his toes to his head. While most of these scars are relatively small, he possesses a burn scar on the lower-left side of his face, which wraps neatly around his left eye. One will likely never see these scars, however.

Clothes: Amleth's clothing is far from fashionable.

His most interesting piece of attire is the primitive gasmask that he always wears into battle. It has an appearance rather similar to that of the Italian plague doctors, and works under much the same principle. The herbs in the beak serve to null most toxic fumes, while the glass eyepieces help somewhat improve his poor eyesight.

He is always wearing his black duster, for it is within it's inside that Amleth's equipment is carried with the dozens of leather straps. The duster itself is made of fire-resistant fabric, lined with a thin layer of lead that weighs the miner down, but adds extra resistance to flame and electricity.

Amleth can also be seen wearing a simple, black workshirt, black flame-resistant blacksmith pants, leather gloves and steel-toed workboots.

Weapon(s):

Explosives

Dynamite: Amleth's bread and butter. Dynamite is a simple enough explosive, but just about as powerful as it gets. The fuse on a given stick can be shortened in order for it too go off sooner, but obviously, it can't be lengthened. The normal fuse length is set to go off in twenty seconds of being thrown, but most typically will be reduced to ten. The strongest part of the blast radius is the first ten feet, but it can still cause direct damage within twenty. Can be used in individual sticks, or more cumbersome, but incredibly powerful, bundles.

Flambe: The flambe is easy to make, but fragile. It's composed of lamp oil mixed with various toxins, stored in a beer bottle, and using a small cloth as a fuse. Upon impact the glass will shatter, causing the Flambe to ignite and set ablaze whatever it comes into contact with. The added toxins make the produced smoke highly poisonous.

Shrapnel: A shrapnel bomb may not posses the sheer destructive power of dynamite, but it makes up for it easily. Stored in a thin, hollowed ball of iron, a mixture of gunpowder, glass shards and infected nails can be found. Upon detonation, the bomb will produce a small blast radius of five feet, but the shrapnel that flies forth can go as far as twenty.

Firecrackers: A mild explosive incapable of causing any more than minor burns. However, it is also very lightweight, and the flash produced from it's explosion makes it an excellent tool for distractions and momentary stunning. Goes off within three second of being lit, and has a blast radius of one foot.

Firework: Rarely brought into a fight due to it's impractical size, fireworks are traditionally implements meant for entertainment purposes. However, in the hands of Amleth, they are a fast and powerful weapon. Upon launch, fireworks can travel 10 feet per second, up to over 100 feet. They never travel in a straight path, making them highly unpredictable, and upon contact will explode in a dazzling and blinding array of burning light. Fireworks have a fuse of five seconds.

Traps

Bear trap: An excellent choice. Originally meant for hunting, the bear trap is a small metal construct, capable of causing dangerous amounts of bleeding. The trap takes a turn to properly set-up, but will go off instantly once the switch is triggered ideally by the opponent's foot. Should the trap go off, it will snap instantly, driving the trap's "teeth" into the unsuspecting victim's leg. Depending upon the person's strength and/or knowledge of traps, it can take anywhere from one turn to several to remove. Often camouflaged.

Razor wire: Razor wire is just that; long strands of metal wire, sharpened to the point where they become thin blades. Razor wire is coiled, and held down into either the ground or objects using small spikes. Razor wire is capable of slashing through weaker armor with little difficulty, and given that it holds rather strong, can also serve as a means of tripping someone. Razor wire take a turn to set-up three feet. Often camouflaged.

Barbs + Marbles: A small leather sack that contains within it an assortment of solid metal ball bearings and barbs. The bearings are easy to slip on, and tumbling over ensures that the victim will receive a nasty fall upon these solid chunks of metal. The barbs may hurt to fall upon, but will also latch onto flesh, cloth, or even leather with ease, creating a literal prick in one's side that can take up to an entire turn to remove. These can be released while running, and under most cases will not consume an entire attack phase.

Pranks

Exploding Cigar: A trick that tries to take advantage of a smoker. Either at the beginning of a fight or when begging for mercy, Amleth may offer the opponent a cigar. Upon lighting such a cigar, the gunpowder stored within will go off immediately, with enough force to potentially blow off fingers or a jaw.

Flower Bouquet: A trick that tries to take advantage of a more naive or narcissistic opponent. Immediately before the start of a fight, the devious one may offer his opponent a bouquet of flowers, whereupon accepting, Amleth will use his minimal telekinetic powers to spring a substance within the bouquet into the foe's face, which, if it fails too render an opponent unconscious, will leave their body numb for an uncertain amount of turns depending upon the person's constitution. (Opponent's discretion)

Buzzer: A trick that tries to take advantage of a person's good sportsmanship. A magic ring charged with a small amount of electric charge. Upon shaking hands or otherwise touching an opponent's bare skin, the charge will be sent from the ring into the other person's body with violent force. The shock acts much like a taser, leaving the opponent largely incapacitated on their next turn, and stunned for up to an additional four turns. (Opponent's discretion)

Blood: A desperation measure that plays off of eagerness. If in dire straits, Amleth may douse himself in a vial of his own blood, giving the impression that he is severely injured. Begging for mercy and crying out in pain, Amleth hopes to draw to him either someone who wishes to show him mercy or a coup de grace.

Misc.

Warpick: Lacking any formal combat training, the miner makes use of the most similar thing that he can find to a pick axe. The war pick is a curved, sharpened, steel blade, easily capable of puncturing even plate mail if swung with both arms. It is forged from the grey mineral known as Tratite, incredibley formidable in strength, and while heavy, is not so to the point that it is unwieldy. Having little idea how to use one professionally, Amleth will simply swing, swing, swing. Can be swung with one hand, but far more deadly if used with both.

Blast shield: Quite possibly Amleth's most crucial tool. It is a tower shield forged also from Tratite, lacking any sort of decoration. It provides a great deal of protection, being able to withstand even dynamite. It repels more force than it absorbs, meaning that Amleth will suffer only small amounts of recoil. Always worn on his wounded left arm, the shield is somewhat difficult to maneuver with.

Flaregun: A tool originally meant to save lives, the explosive's expert uses it to take them instead. It is capable of firing a flare at 10 feet a second, up to 100, projecting itself on an upward curve. The flare will strike anything it makes contact with using considerable force, and if what it makes contact with is flammable, it will ignite. Can be reloaded, but due to the size of the flare, usually only a few will be brought into a given fight.

Smokebomb: A small, round ball with a single second fuse. Upon ignition, it will quickly envelop the surrounding fifteen feet in a thick, black smoke. Said smoke is toxic, and the smell, comparable somewhat to rotten eggs, will cause weaker stomachs to churn if not outright upchuck.

Abilities

Telekinesis: Amleth possesses very minimal ability in the magical field of telekinesis. He is capable of only very small feats, such as lifting a five pound rock two feet in the air, from two feet away; worthless as far as Alks are concerned. The demolitonist has found a way to make this talent useful, however, as he is able to pull from his jacket a device into his hand without having to actually reach for it. This may sound trivial, but it is far quicker than fumbling about with both hands.

Pyrokinesis: While Amleth may lack any noticeable capabilities in telepathy, he does have some non-outstanding ability in pyrokinesis. He can create only sparks at best, but these sparks can be triggered at a target from twenty feet away or (unreliably) up to thirty. While a spark may not seem like much, it is all that is needed to light a fuse, making Amleth able to "remote detonate", to some small extent. The target must be easily visible however, so any explosives will usually be easily seen by enemies, unless they are placed very strategically.

Other abilities/attributes

Strengths - While coming with great penalties, his planet's catacombs have left him with some strengths. His skin has become tough enough to endure lashes without complaint, furthering his already high tolerance to pain. He has developed a moderate resistance to heat and cold, having come across pockets of both. He retains some nimbleness despite his equipment, having needed such to survive many cave-ins, sudden dropoffs and terrible creatures. His stamina and sheer will to survive is impressive, being able to carry on despite much pain and fatigue.

Working with explosives has given him an impeccable sense of timing and distance, and after having escaped to the surface, has acquired a phenomenally accurate throwing arm.

Weaknesses - Life as a miner has taken its toll on Amleth. Living in constant dimness has rendered his eyes underdeveloped, which becomes even worse should his gasmask lenses be damaged or destroyed. Fumes have made his sense of smell and taste weak, and constant explosions without proper protection has left him with less than adequate hearing. From one of these said explosions Amleth lost two fingers on his left hand, leaving it with little other use than to hold a blast shield or help swing his warpick.

Despite his equipment being well hidden behind his coat, it all still leaves him quite vulnerable, especially at close-range. Should one of his explosives be ignited, he will have little time at all (if any) to swiftly abandon his coat and all that comes with it, likely leaving him with only his warpick and blastshield. Needless to say, while this loss of equipment will serve to increase his hampered speed, the penalties involved can make a match almost certainly unwinnable.

Personality:
Amleth is for the most part, a quiet, patient and collected individual. He is an introvert of which you will have little chance of getting a conversation out of, never mind having him fully remove his mask. He prefers having little company and typically will only speak when he finds it necessary. While he can be considered relatively intelligent by other means, he lacks a refined tongue or higher vocabulary.

One should do well to beware him, for he is quite the cunning man. He is an excellent deceiver, relying more on subtlety and ambiguity than actual persuasion. One will find it nearly impossible to determine what he is thinking should they try, while he in turn, will pay close attention to everything you say or do, while making it appear as if he isn't. He holds no belief in honour or that foolish notion of "fighting fair", nor is he above using underhanded methods of coercion or blackmail to attain things on a diplomatic level.

There is a lighter side to Amleth's personality, though it is rather rare that you should see it. He does in fact possess a strong sense of humour, be it a witty response or a clever prank and he is not above laughing aloud either. The ex-miner can take pleasure in the simple things such as nature or a good rest. He has some sympathy for the downtrodden and has gone out of his way to help those wronged by others in times past. While he is an opportunist, Amleth still prefers to take the more ethically sound route, if it is available. While attaining his genuine friendship may seem a feat beyond many people's patience, you will find him to be an invaluable and fiercely loyal ally should it be done.

Remember this if nothing else: he is hellbent on achieving victory, so that his dearest wish can be attained. His life has no meaning without the possibility of this desire being made reality, so rest assured this passion will not stop in the face of your adversity. You have been warned.

Background:
Amleth (Athejan for "muddle") was born the sixth child to a family renowned for it's capabilities with magic, or in their case, psi. From an early age Amleth was determined to be embarrassingly weak and certain to never see much improvement. In a world where a lack of magic meant one was a second-class citizen, this was tragic. He was a blemish on the family's name and in turn, received only minimal education and frequent abuse. He eventually escaped from his family at age thirteen, joining a resistance group of the non-magical, known simply as "the insurgence". A freedom fighter or terrorist, depending on whose side you found yourself on, the boy was trained early on from his recruitment to handle explosives, the insurgence's greatest weapon.

He made many friends among fellow members, the closest of which was a woman of his own age, Sanary. The girl was ever optimistic and cheerful, and when things did not go as she had proposed, she offered comfort and sincere words of sympathy. She introduced to Amleth and his friends much in the way of entertainment, be it games, tales, or song. She was silent of her past to all but Amleth, of whom she had taken a particular curiosity with. Unbeknown to himself, for he was unfamiliar with emotion, but Amleth had become infatuated with her. The bubbly lass gave him happiness and the insurgence gave him purpose, so to both he would remain forever loyal.

On the night of an impressive operation, Amleth's squad was betrayed and captured. Amleth was the only one tortured, for he gave his captors all the information the wanted, as so to spare his friends from the pain. Rather than his squad being executed, the men were sent to work n the Ry'jal mines, which had a shortage of workers due to a large cave-in, while the women went on to fates probably best left unknown. Sanary was the exception, for she capitalized on her androgynous appearance so that she could help those being sent there.

Amleth spent the remainder of young adulthood as essentially a slave, seeing the light of above only once every year. Amleth nearly met his end many, many times, be it to cave-ins, sudden drop offs, fire geysers, "discipline", a bevy of monstrous creatures and other such threats. While friends died around him constantly, a sense of companionship among his fellow insurgence members kept him going strong. Sanary was especially important in maintaining morale, and it was because of this that her comrades all took a vow to protect her from harm. They failed.

A psychic delegate of the government had been sent to inspect the progress of the mines, and upon his visit, happened upon Sanary. Having caught his interest, the telepath entered his mind in private, and determined that Sanary's true nature as a woman. Women were forbidden from the mines and thus for her "infiltration" she was punished by the foreman. Amleth and his friends could do nothing as she was raped. As for her actual execution, the foreman thought himself clever for figuring out that Sanary rhymed with canary. She was locked away in a cage in a recently discovered pocket, of which had not yet been deemed safe to enter. While Amleth's group did their best to outwit the guards and make their way down to the pocket later that night, they were unable to break open the cage quickly enough; Sanary died while muttering comments to the terrified Amleth.

Her death struck a terrible blow to their morale, from which they would never recover. With little else to lose, all the miners in his group sans Amleth made an escape attempt, although he did help with the preparations. The escape attempt failed, and all three dozen of his comrades died. He himself couldn't help abandon the place were Sanary died, and thus remained in the mines so that he could sneak off and visit her cage every night, unconcerned with his own health. Amleth had receded to melancholy complacent, when one day (or night, for he had little sense of time) the miner coincidentally burrowed into a new pocket. He tumbled dozens of feet, surviving only because he crashed into a pool of water below. There, he came across a slumbering being of great power: me. After giving him a demonstration of my power, the two of us made a pact. If he was to serve me, then after obtaining what I desire, I would return the favour in kind...he accepted. He has served me for some years now, but I am not yet satisfied. Perhaps victory in this upcoming clash of the greats should be enough...perhaps.

I think I'm going to enter Luna in the tournament. For those who are wondering, she is based on me and she was inspired by my username. If anything needs to be changed, let me know!

Here's the link: http://role-player.net/forum/showthread.php?t=9674

By the way, her character sheet is the second sheet, or the third post in the thread.

@ Hig - in

@ seven - in.

Vamp, Dream and soul, Just need to read it over. Don['t worry, even though we are no longer accepting entrants, we will give you time to make alterations if necessary.

Everyone else, reminder to check your sheets for height. Also, I will be giving everyhting a final read through, so if I run across somehting I didn't notice before, please don't take offence if I ask you about it. Most of you know me well enough, so y'all know i have a brain like a sieve XD

Vamp - You're in

Soul - Expect a PM

Dream - You're in

I hope I got everybody, again I will be double checking this

Now, they tourney will start in a few days. After all, we need a little time to prepare. Expect the tournament brackets to be added to the OP in this thread tonite or tomorrow.

And everyone, I am going to be the first to admit some of these characters are extremely overpowered, so I highly recommend everyone read through the rules on godmodding in the arena again. Which can be found here (http://role-player.net/forum/showthread.php?t=9351). Godmodding will not be tolerated in the tournament and anyone guilty of it will be disqualified. There will be no second chances.

Ace of Hearts™
12-27-2010, 05:41 AM
Us already approved are good, right? On the power level, right?

John
12-27-2010, 05:49 AM
Some of the accepted are overpowered in my eyes. Really, read the godmodding rules. It's all in how you use what you have.

Ace of Hearts™
12-27-2010, 05:50 AM
Then why accept them?

John
12-27-2010, 06:03 AM
Because in the end, this is about the writing. And there is no reason why any of these characters can be played well without godmodding. And for the most part, the characters do have a sense of balance to them. Plus we do have some things in store for the battles that will serve to level the field, or just make things harder for both combatants.

Try to remember, the battle is just window dressing. It's what you do with and how you use your character that will determine who wins. Admittedly, we did have some limits for the characters, and some had to make changes.

Also, like I said, I will be giving everything another read through just to make sure of everything.

Interesting set-ups all round.

Kkod, I tried thinking of a witty retort, but couldn't seem to find anything. So instead I think I'll settle with "NO U".

But seriously, our fight ought to be a good one. It's pretty hard to determine who has the advantage (there is that scary axe...), but needless to say, the arena type will probably heavily influence the result. Amleth is at his best when he has sufficient coverage, and it seems as if your crazy witch is more into methods of direct slaughter, plus there's a matter of that elemental bolt...

Thanks for the compliment. His story is a little cliched, but I like it nevertheless. I thought it started to sound redundant when talking about weapons, but I guess there are only so many different words for "enemy".I rather liked your style of writing too, it's seems a bit more artistic, which I like.

Well Magnan, Amleth has some protection against flame, but at the same time, some well-aimed shots could probably take out his explosives mid-air, never mind what'll happen if some of that fire creeps under his coat. On the other hand, you'd be going up against a pretty brutal opponent with some great "power moves" and equipment. Hmmm...

Should be a great fight, I look forward to writing a story worthy of memory XD. The arena should be a deciding factor in most fights as it can be just as deadly a weapon as any brought to the fight by the warriors. When are we getting started?

Besides that, I hope I can wait until Sunday. The excitement is starting to torture me. lol

Magnan, once I get more characters up, I'll get in your way. Guarantee it in fact. Watch your back. LOL

But seriously, just wait until I get my other three characters up. Hehe.

Feel free to challenge me as you will Magnan. Final Fate will be ready for you. Of course I have two more people to go until they are all up there....maybe 3.

I'd throw down with Mercurial, but atm she needs a lot of fine tuning.
