Enigma

At first you couldn't be sure, but you eventually realize that you are being followed. A few friends let you know that strange people have been asking about you. Just as suddenly as it starts, the private detectives disappear, only for a new man to show up at your doorstep.
His name is Mr. Fischer. While he is unfailingly polite and respectably dressed, you cannot help but notice that besides his incredible height and width, he is without doubt the ugliest man you have ever seen with an incredible deadpan expression on his dog-like face.
Mr. Fischer tells you that he represents a group of investors looking to create a resort in some newly opened but very remote locations. While each of the three had been scouted, his investors were looking for outsiders with skills, such as yourselves - doctors, scientists, archeologists, explorers - to spend some time in each location and make sure that they didn't overlook anything, so that they select the best possible location for the resort. With travel time included, it's expected that you will be away for two years.
Of course, they expect the strictest confidence, to prevent issues with competitors. If you agree to this, once you leave for the first location, you will not be able to contact anyone until your return. Nor will any information about the three sites be released until you are on board the transport in route. While they do not expect any difficulties, these are remote locations far off the beaten track - while they will provide security and basic necessities, there still remains the possibility of wild animal attacks and other unforeseen dangers.
They understand that these restrictions can make people nervous. In their standard contract, they agree to pay each of you one million dollars up front.
While two prior hires had shown up with only the clothes on their backs, Mr. Fischer warns that for your own personal comfort that you use part of the money to bring along personal items (like toothpaste, favorite underarm deodorant, makeup, etc), clothes, necessary equipment, professional supplies, and anything else you might need. He also warns that the food can be rather bland, so if you wish to bring along some spices or some canned or boxed good, arrangements could be made.
Restrictions:
We're hiring ordinary people with experience in their fields, ideally 26-42, in good health.
Associates should have at least two years of college, bachelors will have four. A master's degree will add two years to a bachelor degree. A doctorate degree requires a bachelors degree and a masters, and will add six to eight years. Professors will have a doctorate or master's degree.
Prior military experience welcome, but no super soldiers. Combat medics will have at least six to eight years of service, so at least 26, while a military doctor had medical school and at least one term of service, so 32 minimum. SEALs and Special Forces types would not have been hired as they're looking for people to evaluate the livability of the sites, not security.
Jedi, werewolves, vampires, or other supernatural types need not apply. If you're someone famous and would be missed, you would not have been selected.
