Name: Arxus

Age: 227

Gender: Male

Race: Undead

Build: 5'8", ~135 lbs. He is thin and a bit short.

Hair: He has none.

Eyes: They are usually not visible, but when using a spell or when he wishes the right one will glow a bright, but deep crimson hue.

Distinctive features: Arxus is extremely pale as undead tend to be, though he also has intricate red tribal tattoos over his torso and arms. A scar running from his top right abdominal muscle to his left hip, the remnant of the wound that killed him. Numerous other scars also mark his body.

Clothes: What used to be a plain black shirt now bears a hood and has had its sleeves removed. It also bears chainmail underneath the cloth and several armor plates bolted to the front (connecting to the chainmail) and to the back, all of which are in patterns flexible enough to allow nearly full range of motion. He also wears slightly baggy black pants tucked into mid-calf high combat boots. On his right hand he wears a leather glove with the fingers cut off, while on his left he wears an ancient cestus (see below) Under his hood he wears a [mask] (http://www.501st.com/crl/SL_CRL/SL106_Nihilus_COTF/106_02.jpg), but nothing else is visible.

Weapons:

Breaker: Take note that the hilt is a bit thicker in this than it should be.
http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/3643/breakersword.png This sword is made of a material that is very nearly indestructible, but has the mysterious property to catch fire when exposed to flames. The various bladed 'V's in its design are meant to be used to sever limbs or as hooks to remove armor or weapons from opponents.

Talons: http://www.forensic-applications.com/meth/knives.jpg
Instead of a spike on the end a chain is attached.
With blades and eight foot long retractable chains made from the same material as the Breaker these knives are used in much the same way, but also have a ranged machanic that the Breaker does not. They are worn on each hip along with a device that stores the chain.

Death's Hand: http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/image/article/876/876358/prince-of-persia-20080523032033667.jpg
An ancient relic rumored to have belonged to Death himself at one time, this gauntlet is indestructible in its own right. It is usually used for defense because the bak is armored, but also has offensive uses via its claws.

Abilities:

Damnation: Although it is uncommon in a fight Arxus can, by gripping an opponent's head with Death's Hand, give them about a second's glimpse into his mind and soul. Weaker adversaries have fallen into madness within the space of that second, while most are simply stunned by the madness that they have experienced. Just before and during the use of this ability the claws of the gauntlet glow an otherworldly green.
Lasts: 1 enemy post. Usage: 1 use per battle

Afraid of the Dark: Arxus uses his power to extinguish all light within an area, turning it into a void with no light except that cast by his eye or other powerful abilities.
Lasts: 4 enemy posts. Usage: 1 use per 6 player turns

Flamespurt: Arxus channels energy through his arms or mouth to launch a tongue of crimson flame at his opponent. This ability works much like a flamethrower as the flames tend to stick around for a few seconds after they hit something.
Lasts:1 post (like an attack). Usage: 1 use per 2 player turns

Other abilities/attributes:

Dead: Arxus is, technically, dead and his sense of pain is dulled, but so are some of his senses.
Enhanced reflexes: When he was brought back Arxus was given reflexes slightly faster than a normal human's, this also applys to his basic motor functions.
Ventriloquism: Though it may seem trivial Arxus can make his voice seem to come from nearly anywhere, even multiple places at once.

Personality: Arxus has a long history of playing mind games with his opponents, trying to break their psyche as well as their bodies. Because he was truly dead for a short time before he was brought back Arxus hates the world and its inhabitants who do not have to live in his state of half life. At the same time he wishes to return to the underworld, leaving him very conflicted between killing others and getting himself killed.

Background: Arxus was killed in the defense of castle that belonged to the woman he loved, he was impaled through the chest with a broadsword and bled to death on the ground that he fought to defend. Two weeks later after the attackers had been routed Arxus was resurrected by the queen's high priest, something that had never been done in that kingdom before, and so nobody knew the consequences. Upon his arrival Arxus' wounds were healed, but he remained deathly pale and was infuriated to be brought back from his resting place.

In the underworld he had come to accept that he would see his love, the queen, when her time was up and, as one of the best fighters to pass to the underworld, had ben awarded a place of power watching over distressed souls and a piece of Death's armor. Arxus was dismayed to be called back to defend his loveagain, something that should not have happened. He could not sleep, eating did not appease his hunger, nor did drinking ease his thirst. While the queen still lived Arxus managed to hide his distaste for being a part of the land of the living, but after her death he took revenge on the high priest and then fled the kingdom, seeking death and yet running away from it at the same time.

In his travels he found the arena and sees it as a way to ensure that he dies, but takes as many mortals with him as possible.

<This character is from Mystivale Legends (http://role-player.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21380), adjusted for combat in the arena.>

Name: Asavar Kul

Age: Physically 27, mentally over 2 millenia, though most of that was inactivity.

Gender: Male

Race: Possessed Human

Appearance: Asavar stands at an average 5'10" and has little to speak of in the way of physique. He wears a set of ornate steel plates over a black shirt on his chest, they are segmented in a way that allows him to move naturally at the cost of protection from stabbing attacks. His arms are sleeveless, but are covered by segmented bracers decorated as his other armor is. A pair of soft black gloves extend from the bracers, each finger tipped with a steel claw. He wears pants that are slightly baggy and secured with a red sash at his waist, the legs of his pants are tucked into a pair of simple black boots. Asavar also wears a heavy black cloak with a mane of thick dark-gray fur on the shoulders and upper back. The cloak's arms have cuffs that extend nearly a foot down from the hand when worn, tapering down to a normal size at the elbow. The hem of the cloak is decorated with gold thread, a simple pattern meant as an accent. Asavar hides his face under the cloak with a concealment spell, he is not who that face belongs to.

Distinctive Features: Asavar's presence is marked by a certain dread, a feeling of inevitability that cannot be shaken. Asavar may be a legend who many have copied but the appearance of his steel claws, furred cloak, and flayed face together mark him out as the original.

Weapons:

The Arcana Codex: An original version of the fabled text, the first and complete guide to the rules of magic. The book is bound in a case of tarnished black metal, entombed in it, and sealed with a large circular lock composed of many smaller locks set into rotating circles. This book grants Asavar basic force magicks as long as he is in contact with it.

The Kerberos Spear: A ponderous weapon made of the same metal as the Arcana Codex's bindings, this spear is tipped with a rather long spearhead with two hooks pointing back along its length. The length of the weapon is also a ponderous thing as it can extend up to three times the height of a man over the period of a few seconds.

Abilities:

Force Magic: This base magic is constantly available, though close range and linked to hand motions.

Projectile Casting: Through use of the Arcana Codex various projectile spells can be cast. A projectile can only be cast every four posts, but the variety of the spell makes it useful in most situations.
-Fire
-Water (takes the form of a spear)
-Ice
-Stone

Power of the Written Word: Opening the Arcana Codex, Asavar calls upon one of the more powerful spells within to cause havoc without. This ability can only be used after half the allotted time in the battle or after seven posts and causes an arena-wide whirlwind of force that throws loose objects around for a turn after casting, though there is no protection from the spell provided to Asavar.

Other Attributes: While Asavar is relatively weak and slow compared to most fighters his magic use makes up for this fact, providing a competitive combat style.

Personality: Asavar is the protector, the single guard of a book of truth that the world is not ready for. His personality matches, he is surly, despises most other creatures, and will not under any circumstance relinquish his hold on the Codex.

Background: Hailing from the far north, beyond the Ridge and most civilization, the individual calling himself Asavar Kul comes from a stock of people that are isolationists at best. Asavar is not one of these people, because of his weak physicality he was shunned from his village at the age of 13, when it is believed that those who are able should be able to fend for themselves. He wandered for weeks, barely surviving off the sparse edible plants amongst the snow and evergreens, and on the brink of madness he found a cave.

This cave was simple, an opening in the side of a short cliff which lead to a larger cavern. Inside were the remains of some sort of temple, and at its center was a large book, hundreds of pages contained between heavy black-iron covers engraved with arcane symbols and fastened together with an elaborate lock. Upon his touch the lock clicked, it moved and twisted, and several metal bolts slid out from its circular casing before it parted and the book opened. Asavar was suddenly imparted with the knowledge of how to read and speak the language on the pages, discovering that they were spells.

Three years passed, and on the eve of the new year, as a horrible storm rolled in, the man known as Asavar Kul entered his old village, the townspeople ogled him, wondering Who he was and what purpose he had in their village. He wore an inky black cloak and carried a large black book on a chain around his waist, nobody could see his face, and nobody spoke to him as he trod through the layers of snow in the streets.

As he reached the town center the sliver of moon that was visible blacked out as it became new, and a great wave of energy washed though the town. When dawn shed its first rays of light on the town there was nothing left, houses were but ashes, animals were cracked and drying bones, only skulls remained of humans, and the area was covered only in a light layer of snow when all around it there was several feet of the stuff. Few survived this event, those who had not been present during it, and three that had witnessed it from afar on a hill. To this day those survivors remain damaged, emotionally rendered insane by the loss of all their acquaintances. The story was teased out of them, and areas of the north still fear those who travel in black and bear steel claws.
