Name: Kuro Musashi
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Hair: Short and black, waxed backwards
Build: Wiry/athletic
Height: 5’9
Eyes: Milky white cataracts

Distinctive features:
Only exposed when his face is well lit or when the hood is down, Kuro’s eyes are a milky white due to the cataracts he developed at an early age. It is these cataracts that are the source of his blindness.

Kuro wears a two piece combat suit. The fabric comprises of a micro-weave Kevlar derivative, resistant to heat and bladed weaponry. On top of the fabric lie a number of Titanium-Ceramic armour plates covering various sections of the body, offering partial protection against both blunt and penetration trauma. The Kevlar derivative is finished in matte black, with the Titanium-Ceramic plates also finished in black but instead having a dark metallic sheen.

Weapons:

Kuro’s primary weapons are two Wakizashi, held in scabbards mounted crossways on the back of the combat armour. Each Wakizashi is formed from high tensile layered steel composite. The size of the Wakizashi allows Kuro to wield one in each hand with speed, without combat becoming cumbersome.

Kuro is also equipped with 2 detonation charge attached to his belt, each containing 150 grams of plastic explosive. The casing composed of a light epoxy resin, reducing weight. This also means that the casing disintegrates upon detonation, meaning that the shrapnel is non-existent. The device’s main purpose is environmental; as the charge is easily picked and thrown back. Each charge operates via a fuse, taking one turn to detonate.

Kuro is well versed in the ancient Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu for unarmed combat, though his strength and speed is limited to the heights of human capabilities, his gift of echolocation provides him with coordination and control that few can rival.

Abilities:

A hand thrown grapple, the Kaginawa is a highly useful tool that can be used in a number of different ways, but primarily to aid in the scaling of tall areas. The grapple head is attached to 12 meters of cable.

This pouch is a rather useful piece of equipment in that it carries 2 paper pods of finely ground powder. The powder itself is a mixture of iron filings, dust, ground pepper and a variety of other ingredients, and its main purpose is to disrupt the vision of the opponent, through either temporarily blinding them or forcing them to shut their eyes in order to protect them. The dust itself is quite thick, and will briefly hamper visual visibility external viewers. Thrown and breaking apart on impact, the dust affects the immediate area for 2 turns if eyes are closed, 3 if the eyes are successfully contaminated. Inhalation of the dust can cause respiratory problems for 1 turn, the ground pepper in particular causing sinus problems (eg; the effects of pepper spray).

Other Abilities/attributes:

Blinded soon after birth, Kuro has learnt to make sense of his surroundings through visualising sound as it impacts the environment around him. Though his ears are no more sensitive than your average human, with no need to process visual information, the brain can place far greater focus on the information given by the inner ear, allowing this remarkable feat of human-echolocation. Using a high frequency emitter built into the armour itself, Kuro can produce a constant stream of information for his mind to focus on, creating a mental picture of the immediate world around him.

This ability has its downsides however. At short distances, the picture created by the sound is incredibly detailed; allowing Kuro to create a mental 3d image of both himself and his opponent. At longer distances however, the picture created by sound is little more than a blur, a thick fog through which only rough direction can be made out. Colour, is of course, unreadable through echolocation, though different types of material can be detected at closer ranges.

Personality:
Kuro is a reserved individual; he does not fight for pleasure or riches, only for the challenge that fighting presents. His blindness is something that had held him back in his youth, depriving him of opportunities to prove his worth and honour his family. He sees his blindness as a curse through which a gift has developed and believes that by competing in the tournament he can earn the honour that his family deserved which he was unable to give.

He honours the ancient code of Bushido, and with this the tenets that must be followed both in and out of combat.

Background:
Born in 22nd century feudal Japan, Kuro belonged to the Musashi family and, owing such rich lineage, only excellence was expected of him. Blinded from a young age, Kuro found life a challenge in which he rarely excelled. Though otherwise physically able, Kuro was unable to equal his peers in the martial arts and as such was cast away from his family, having failed to earn the honour and respect expected of a young man. Over fifteen long years, Kuro has gradually developed his unique gift, turning the tables on fate herself and now seeks to earn the honour of his family which he feels was cruelly taken from him.
