It's been four days since the discovery of the re-emergence of a stronger Goa'uld force and their first act was to destroy the Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Sites. Major General Philip Kevin Loyer immediately halted all off world travel except to Earth, Atlantis, or Destiny.

Major General Loyer, Pheonix Team-1 (PT-1), and other select Phoenix site personnel were sent to Earth for a joint briefing with the Free Jaffa Nation. The Free Jaffa Nation was the least prepared to handle the weaponry now being deployed by the Goa'uld. The Free Jaffa Nation reluctantly allowed teams of Tauri scientists and engineers to begin upgrading their Ha'tak ships.

The members of the Pheonix Site have returned home. Major General Loyer immediately began updating Atlantis and Destiny. Colonel Austin began updating other Pheonix team leaders about the new threat. Captain Ward began overseeing the deliveries from Earth developed by Stargate R&D. Her favorite was the Projected Energy Weapon, based on the Traveler's Particle Magnum. As soon as Major General Loyer was done with his briefing she had to oversee the delivery of the two Gateship prototypes to Atlantis.

Colonel Austin then gathered her team to discuss their first mission in the new war with the Goa'uld.

Oki'na sat in a medical exam room with another patient.

Ahchew. Specialist Rohn Kegan sneezed. He was of a good higher by Aturen standards, which meant he was pretty tall by the standards of the Tau-ri. He shivered despite the coat her wore over his uniform. He looked pale, and sweat rolled down his face despite his obvious chills.

Rohn would make the fifteenth patient so far with the same symptoms.
Sneezing, coughing, chills, sweating, stuffy nose, low appetite, tiredness, headaches. A few patients were also developing cysts.
He ha

"Take this at every meal for a few days, even if it's only a light meal. Drink plenty of water, get some rest, and avoid contact was others." Oki'na said, handing him a bottle of pills.

Rohn left and Oki'ns turned to finish filling out the exam report. Fifteen patients in three days. If they kept this up, half the base was gonna be down with it. They might need to get more supplies.
And the way things were going, it wouldn't hurt to set up a quarantine just in case.
She filled out a recommendation forum as well. She'd be surprised if no on else suggested what she was about to.

Recommend to section off a base to quarantine patients.
Recommend stocking up on medical supplies.
Recommend all staff go through examination and subsequent vaccination.

She sighed, knowing she was about to make a lot more work for herself. She grumbled to herself what this will all take to get done. But she was a medic, and her job was to keep everyone fit, and healthy so they can do their jobs.

After finishing the form, she picked up the papers and walked out of the exam room and down to Dr. Koenig's office and knocked on the door.

Time seemed to be moving in reverse, with the threat of the Ori eliminated one should have been able to breathe a sigh of relief. Not that there weren't countless other threats out there in the universe only waited to be discovered or unleashed. But now news of the return of the Goa'uld had broken, new system lords had risen to be dealt with. It seemed like only yesterday that been fighting against the Goa'uld not only to free the Jaffa, but to free the known universe of their reign of torture and terror. It was enough to make one's head spin. Then again, if one didn't get the chills from the thought of those pesky little snakes, something might have been wrong.

"Please tell me you got everything." Dr. Koenig, affectionately known to base personnel as "Evie" demanded of a young officer assisting with the unloading of numerous crates. Off in the distance, Evie caught sight of Captain Ward, who was undoubtedly taking a keen interest in the new defense equipment sent by R&D.

"See for yourself." The man replied with a smile, handing Evie a clipboard with a mess of papers attached. Taking the object into her hands she began to thumb through the pages. "My hero." Evie gushed for a moment, overjoyed that all of the requested supplies had in fact come through the gate. It seemed like every time she asked for something she would either get the wrong thing entirely, or less than what was requested. Their resources were spread thing across the various outposts.

"Say that again Doc and I'll never let you down." He replied one final time and turned his attention back to the business at hand. Evie, now satisfied began the walk back toward her office, her mind slowly returning to matters more pressing on base. At Phoenix site, things were often somewhat more relaxed, and though Evie was an officer, she opted for a more casual civilian dress, save for when at ceremonies, official meetings etc... or of course on away missions when she did exactly as was required. The sound of her black heels clicked along the concrete floors, the white fabric of her lab coat swaying ever so gently as she moved. The breeze in the base was artificial, all resultant from the vast network of ventilation included when the place was built.

Her elegant blonde hair, tied neatly up into a clean bun and black dress that came down below her knees, perfectly respectable. "Evie!" A voice called as she walked, turning around to face the source she smiled as she moved now walked slowly backwards down the corridor, ever on a mission.

"Andrew Thomas, as I live and breathe. Aren't you late for a briefing?" Evie asked not in a judgmental tone, but one to remind him that he shouldn't be late Colonel Austin. That was probably the worst way to start a morning.

"Yes, yes you're right. But." Andrew said, ever the scientist above all, he was naturally curious about almost anything and everything that was going on at the Phoenix base. "Any news from Earth? Something worth sharing? Other than obvious Goa'uld this and that?" His eyes were almost glowing, for lack of a better word with excitement. He had embraced his new home well and had been adapting quite nicely since his arrival.

"No idea. I haven't even seen Loyer yet. I've been a bit preoccupied." Evie said still moving as Andrew now followed her, coincidentally they did need to move in the same direction to get to their respective destinations.

"Phoenix Flu? Andrew asked, mocking a cough.

"Not funny. And yes, you know it. Let's hope this years strain is kinder than the last one. I'm on my way to check in and do rounds. I feel awful, I've left Oki'na to fend for herself. I've two doctors and a nurse down." Evie shrugged her shoulders, it was just that time of year. After all this time she had finally fallen into alignment with the planet and it's cycles of illness. It had routines, just like Earth.

"Gruesome." Andrew commented, rolling his eyes.

"You. Briefing. Go." Evie waved a hand off, dismissing the man and turning back around walking forward back toward her office. "Oki'na, I hope your ears weren't ringing. I was just talking about you." Evie smiled and opened the door to her office, entering it and inviting the Aturen inside.

Andrew all the while scurried back off to meet Ward and the rest of the team for the latest briefing.

"I hope it was all good things." Oki'na said, stepping into the office, "Sadly, I don't have much good news to give. We now have fifteen down with this flu."

She handed the new exam reports alongside the recommendations forum before taking a seat.

"Honestly, if this keeps up, it won't be long before half the base is down with it." She crossed her legs and folded her arms.

While Evie might have preferred her civilian attire, Oki'na was a bit different. And it might have even been accounted as strange considering she was an Aturen ally, and not an official Tau'ri soldier, that she preferred her medical scrubs while on the job, normally felt at home in the SGC uniform. She was currently in the former, though her hair still had its usual Aturen aesthetic with the flowers and vines that never seemed to lose their place, though maybe a little neater than what would normally be found on the average Aturen.

She'd been doing what she could on base for about a year, and felt she had gotten close with some of the personnel here. She hoped Evie was one of them, among others.

"So, what's the word? Anything new?" Oki'na asked

Seargent Jade Wilkinson was one of the many MPs (military police) serving on Phoenix Planet she was sent to investigate why Airman Taylor Saunders had not reported for duty the last two days.

Wilkinson knocked on Saunders' door but after several repeated knocks with no answer, she began to look through the windows. Looking through the windows on the back of the house she saw a pair of feed on the ground. Assuming the worst Wilkinson kicked in the door. The house reeked, it was so bad she could taste it. Using a handkerchief she covered her nose and mouth. She put on a pair of black latex gloves and checked for a pulse, luckily there was one, she no signs of a struggle or indication of any other criminal activity. She called the Frasier and requested they beam them both directly to the medical facilities in the mountain.

"Dr. Koenig! Got a medical emergency!" Wilkinson got a nurse to help her put Saunders on a gurney.

In a conference room used for debriefings and briefings, Ward and Austin were waiting for Andrew Thomas. They were both examining the Projected Energy Weapon. Austin used the Particle Magnum weapon several times when she was in the Pegasus galaxy. She wondered if this P.E.W. would live up to its predecessor. If it was half as good this P.E.W. would be her go-to sidearm.

"As if I had anything bad to say about you." Evie found herself rolling her eyes and shaking her head, the smile on her face revealed that her sentiment was genuine. Evie had a fondness for Oki'na, her training was excellent, her instincts were always good and her approach was filled with the innate kindness and sense of community of her people. No doubt the product of the Noxian influence.

Evie took the files, charts and recommendations from Oki'na and began to read through them. "I see." Fifteen was not an ideal number, but it was one that was manageable. However, it had the potential to spread far and wide, that was something could shut them down, and time was something that they did not have the luxury of taking off. "This is good work. I agree with your recommendations." Evie signed off on the documents required with the flourish of a pen. "No one goes off world without a thorough exam. If we even suspect they have symptoms, it's off to quarantine. We can use the empty barracks as a backup location."

Before Evie's promotion she was the loyal second in command of the Bases' medical team. Now as a leader, and member of the bases senior leadership she had done her best to improve response and success rates. Overall, since she took command outcomes were better, and she liked to think some of that was to nurturing her staff and giving those truly capable like Oki'na additional responsibility.

"No news, I haven't gotten a chance to check in with Loyner yet... but I'm assuming the tensions are rising high between the SGC and the Jaffa. A Goa'uld ascendency is devastating news for all of us. Have you had the pleasure of meeting a Goa'uld?" Evie asked when the door to her office was thrown open.

"Gear up." A nurse called in and Evie nodded, looking to Oki'na for support. "Let's go." She rose to a stand and immediately grabbed a pair of gloves from the box on the edge of her desk, donning them along with a regulation mask. Evie was light on her feet, despite the heels, she was along side the gurney on the way to the infirmary in seconds. "Wilkinson." Evie nodded, looking down at Saunders and shaking her head. Her feet now stood on the bottom bar of the gurney, allowing the nurse and others to wheel her and the patient in. Her fingertips moved to Saunder's neck.

"Pulse is weak and thready but there." Evie smiled beneath the mask, this was where she thrived. "Rapid test, let's go." One thing she had accomplished in the past year was developing the rapid test for the Phoenix Flu. Her hand extended outward, as they rolled into a bay a nurse handed her a fresh test kit. Ripping it open with her gloved hand, she ran the swab on the inside Saunder's cheek, handing it back to the nurse carefully for processing.

"Talk me through it Wilkinson, let's go please." It was now for the first time that Evie had a moment to look up at MP Wilkinson, as she looked at her and sighed her eyes flashing with a look of displeasure, the ear tips of the stethoscope she slid into her ears, and pressed the device to the upper chest now exposed. "What the fuck Wilkinson?" Evie had noticed the handkerchief in lieu of a proper mask. "Really? You couldn't have gotten a mask? You know what we have spreading here." The sound of the lungs was heavy, there was definitely some kind of fluid building. There was also a rather distinct scent rising from Saunder's body.

"Let's get a temperature, start IV fluids and wide spectrum antibiotics. Finish the vitals and let's get our friend into quarantine."

Evie folded her arms and looked back at Wilkinson. "We'll get you tested, but like hell you're leaving this infirmary before we've cleared you and had a nice long chat. And for the love of God, put on a real mask."

---

Andrew arrived at the conference room. "Apologies for my tardiness. I ran into the Doc in the hall." Evie was one of the people Andrew had closer relations with, the two got on like old friends. She also made her job to understand the cultures of everyone on the base, especially for those who hailed from outside of Earth. Her attention to Kelownan culture often made him feel at home.

"New P.E.W.s?" Andrew grinned and oved to examine the new weapons. Ward and Austin had been talking about these coming in for awhile now, so he was pleased to actually see them. "Anyone have news from Earth?" For a split second, he almost said from home. In a sense it was a home, but not his home, this base was more so his home now.

"No, not really." Oki'na said, "But I've heard some stories from some of the teams. The glowing eyes, and evil voice. They sound a little-"

That's when the door burst open and they were told to gear up.

"Frick." Oki'na cursed. an unfortunate habit she had picked up during her time in training. She got up and followed Evie, fishing out a pair of gloves and a mask from her scrubs and putting them on as they walked and joined everyone at the gurney.

"Pulse is weak and thready but there." Evie had said. That was good. There was still time to save them before she had to resort to a ritual of life. She'd seen plenty, and even participated in dozens over the course of her life. But she's not had to use it here so far, and she kinda wanted to keep it that way.

Hearing Evie comment on the MP's lack of a proper mask, she fished out a spare and handed it Wilkinson as they continued to rush to the infirmary.

At Evie's request, Oki'na quickly grabbed a thermometer and handed it to her before going for the IV, letting the nurse go for the antibiotics.

"Maybe we should start issuing those out and asking everyone to wear one." Oki'na suggested. "Soon, we're not going to know has it unless they're tested, or it's too late. For whatever good the mask is going to do, anyway."
They weren't anything special. It seemed the masks were better suited from a direct spread from the wearer, though it did help with some particulates and was better than nothing. Better masks might go a long way.

Seeing everything else handled, Oki'na left to check up on the other patients. They needed at least some supervision in case something happened, after all.

Wilkinson had no real use for doctors after a drug prescribed by a doctor killed her father. The CMO of Phoenix was the least objectionable one most of the time during flu season was another story. Wilkinson already had the flu this year. After informing the doctor she expected a drunk and that they teleported directly here she took the mask offered by Oki’na. She didn’t mind taking some time off on the doc’s orders. She has been working extra hours with several MPs out with the flu.

Austin hated the name for the new sidearm specifically because people would call them Pews. The eggheads who came up with the name in her opinion should be shot for that. “Yes, these are the Projected Energy Weapons.” She put hers in the holster. She then opened up a laptop. “As you know the snakeheads are back. I have distributed orders to the other team leaders. Homeworld Command has decided that we are to begin investigating old Goa’uld strongholds not under the control of the Jaffa to make sure the snakes aren’t reclaiming old territory. The screen behind Austin lit up showing what was on the laptop. “This is Tartarus, where the Kulls were manufactured. It has a Stargate shield much like ours, Kull armor can pass through it like it wasn’t there at all. Since we have no idea if the shield is operating or not we brought back three suits of Kull armor. We are going to investigate and make sure no snakes brink back the Kull.” The image on the screen changed to that of the Kull disruptor attached to a P90. "Just in case the facility is operational we will be bringing along Kull Disruptors as well. Our primary goal is to make sure the facility is permanently non-operational. If it is currently operational we must blend in. So the only weapons we will bring are the Kull Disruptors hidden inside the armor and the Plasma Repeater mounted on the wrists of the Kull armor. Does anyone have any questions?”

Ward was disappointed she couldn’t bring the P.E.W. but had no questions.

Austin then remembered something. "Before I forget due to it being flu season once again, I am sure the CMO wants everyone to undergo a medical exam before we leave, and as per Stargate protocols after we return."

"I guess after Sokar failed to breach the Iris, and all of those lost Jaffa the system lords finally figured out the secret." Andrew rolled his eyes, having taken in the details of the mission. It was simple enough, and besides one never knew what one could find in an old manufacturing plant. At the very least they may be able to scavenge other pieces of material for other PTeams or even to send back to Earth. It was sound. "The best we could come up with was PEW? Like pew pew? Andrew mimicked the sound of cartoon gunfire.

Saturday morning cartoons were a strange tradition that many families seem to have had, especially those with younger children. His time amongst the people of Earth had taught him much, though he found quite a bit strange. Never the less, he was excited for another mission, another place he could visit. Soaking in the universe one world at a time, one trip through the Stargate at a time. It was something he felt extraordinarily privileged to be able to do.

--

Evie, along with the other doctors and nurses and Oki'na conducted rounds and finalized treatment plans for each of the patients with the flu. This year seemed less severe than the previous one, though Saunders had certainly taken the worst of it. It was not the most pleasant of conditions, but with adequate treatment it was nothing more than a week or so of discomfort, well, that might have been putting it mildly.

"Wilkinson." Evie said, still smiling as ever and offering something of a soft sigh. "You're done for the day, get some time in the rack." A part of Evie felt bad for having to reprimand Wilkinson. Sure, it was an important lesson, but even Evie had to acknowledge that she could be a little harsh at times, particularly during flu season. "Back on duty tomorrow." Giving Wilkinson a bit of time off was her subtle way of offering a bit of an apology feeling confident she had processed the information.

"Oki'na." Evie called, turning her attention to the Aturen. "The infirmary is yours. I'm going to find the General. If anything goes wild, Dr. Westhouse is on call." Evie rested the stethoscope around her neck and turned to leave the infirmary. "Catch you up on the details? Maybe grab some lunch in the commissary?" Oki'na, Evie would best describe as a close friend. After all they spent nearly all of their time together in the med bay. "Oh and PT-1 is scheduled to gate out in just about an hour, we'll need to be quick when they're ready. I should be back by then."

Evie took her leave and as if on auto-pilot she navigated the halls, having cast off her gloves and mask. It didn't take her long to reach the General's office, and so she knocked on the door and waited for him to bid her entry, when he had she opened the door and stepped inside closing it behind her and saluted the man. Of course she had to update him on the flu situation and her new standing orders, but she also hoped he would tell her what had the end result of meeting with the Jaffa back on Earth had been.

Oki'na looked up as her name was called.

"Yes ma'am." Was the reply to being given the infirmary, accompanied by the mention of Dr. Westhouse.
"I'll do my best." She said when PT-1's scheduled departure was brought up.

She let out a long puff of air as Evie left. Being in charge of the infirmary wasn't exactly what she had in mind, but someone had to do it. She continued with the rounds, checking in on patients until she got to one particular one. Private Christopher Dohan. They had met in medical training and had become fast friends. He was the first one to start calling her private Doss, and she never really questioned it. Chris had been trained as a combat medic while Oki'na was closer to one of earth's paramedics. And while Oki'na had gone on a few away missions, mainly for humanitarian operations, though they ended up getting shot at on a few of them, Chris was attached to PT-3. Unfortunately for him, he was down with the phoenix flu.

"Hey. There's private Doss. My favorite Aturen." Christopher said, sitting up in bed before almost doubling over in a coughing fit.

"Hey, Chris." Oki'na said "Feeling any better?"

"Not really." He said "Head still hurts, and I'm bloody cold."

Oki'na leaned in to get a better look at him. Looking into his eyes. She pulled out a stick. "Say ahh." She said
As Chris opened his mouth, she used the stick to keep his tongue down as she checked it.
"At least you seem to be improving. But it's gonna be a few days yet." She said, looking over at the side table where an empty glass and a mostly empty pitcher sat. "You've been drinking plenty of water." She commented.

"All in the book." Chris said with another cough.

"I'll get you some more. Just rest easy, alright?"

"Yeah, yeah. Could you get me a book while you're at it?" Chris asked, "If I'm gonna be stuck here for several more days, I need something to do other than talk myself horse, and play mind games."

"I'll see what I can find." Oki'na said and walked off with the pitcher to refill it. She returned moments later. "I'll be back with a book later. Just get some rest."

"All I do is rest." Chris said.

Oki'na snorted and left. Walking off to where all the supplies were, she started setting out whatever they'd need for a swift examination and test of PT-1 before they left in...
Oki'na checked the clock. About forty minutes from now. plenty of time.

She was nearly done with her preparations when she heard a fit of couching start up. She didn't pay it any mind at first, since it was normal by this point. But then it lasted a bit longer than usual.
She left her preparations to go and check. And she wasn't the only one, as she met a nurse about half way.
They reached the source to find Specialist Whitetower with a hand to his mouth, and it was already starting to drip with blood. She leapt into action, doing what she thought she had to.

"Call Dr. Westhouse, and get me .15 CCs of dexamethasone, 3 CCs of Phytonadione and 5 of Menadione. Get me IVs, now!" She called out, already trying to prepare a spot for the injections. If they didn't do something soon, Whitetower might just cough themself to death with blood loss.
Nurses rushed to fill the requests.

"Please do not call it a Pew. Call it a..." Austin paused for a moment trying to think of something better. Only thing she could think of was the weapon from Star Trek. "Phaser. Since no one has any questions we need to run by the armory to put away the...Phasers, get the Kull armor, and stop by lockers to change, and then the infirmary. All in..." She checked her watch. "35 minutes. Better make the infirmary our first stop just in case one of you is sick. Time to hustle."

The team made their way to the infirmary. "PT-1 reporting in for our probing."

---------------------------
Major General Loyer was on the phone when the Doctor arrived. He returned her salute, he then gestured to a seat. He stood up and stretched. "How goes the flu situation? Please tell me it's better than last year." With the new war with the snakeheads he couldn't afford to have over half of the teams down with the flu.

"Oh, because calling it a Phaser is so much better." Andrew rolled his eyes and was clearly suppressing a laugh. He found the whole thing rather amusing and often though the military created acronyms first and worried about what the letters would stand for later on. "Yup, good ol' pew pew!" He couldn't really help himself, well he could have, but he decided rather not to, as every now and again moments of levity were appreciated, warranted, and could unknowingly brighten someone's entire day.

It was shortly after that, that he made his way to the infirmary with the others on his team. This part was something that brought him considerably less joy. Though he delighted in seeing the medical staff, in the back of his mind he wondered if he had the stupid flu, and how that would mean he wouldn't be cleared to go off world. That would be a fitting, but somehow terribly cruel punishment, something wrapped up and guised his own safety. Of course it was, but still the thought was too terrible to think about.

---

Evie took a seat and crossed her legs, her palms moving alongside the hem of her dress as though smoothing it out and giving herself a moment to think. "Better than last year? Certainly." Evie was not just playing coy, it was the truth. By and large the cases thus far had been fairly mild and identified early enough to put those individuals in quarantine. "15 confirmed. None fatal. Though had Wilkinson not checked in on Saunders... that may well could have been a casualty." Evie, when speaking to her commanding officer did not mince her words.

"We're quarantining all confirmed cases, and separately those with suspected cases until the test results come back. We are also implementing a mandatory check of all outgoing and incoming Phoenix Teams. Standard procedures." The flu wasn't the thing that was bothering it, no, it was the goa'uld, but that wasn't surprising.

"What news from home?" Evie asked rather patiently.

By this point, Dr. Westhouse was there, and they had managed to stop Whitetower'a bloody coughing fit and they were examining him when PT-1 walked in with a "PT-1 reporting in for our probing."

Oki'na sighed. She was never gonna catch a break, was she. Well, she wanted to help. So she would.

"Alright. Everyone take a seat." Oki'na said through her mask as she changed out her bloody gloves for a fresh pair om her way to get the rest of the supplies needed for the examination, amd she had to brush her hair out of the way a little as she walked over to begin. "anyone have any symptoms? Excessive coughing or sneezing? Any headaches, nausea, or chills? Tiredness or lack of appetite?" She asked as she starts checking all their ears first. That way, they could all still talk.

Nothing seemed off... yet. But you never knew. She went through everyone, doing both ears, talking her tame and looking very carefully. They last thing they needed as a sick team that was through the gate where they'd need to send another team to get them. And where they might be spreading it to others.
Then again... if they managed to pass it on to one of the enemy Jaffa and they survived long enough to make it back to the main force...

Oki'na shook herself. One should not be thinking such thoughts. She was here to heal and support others, not fight. She would leave the war and fighting to those who refused the peace her people had accepted.

Austin reported no symptoms. Ward on the other hand very obviously faked a cough.

---------------------------
Loyer sighed with relief. "Thank goodness for that." He started a coffee pod. "Want one? As you know the Goa'uld are back and their ships are using Ori weaponry or something similar, their opening salvo was the seemingly simultaneous destruction of the other off-world bases. The following is pure speculation on my part, I believe if not for the nebula surrounding the planet we might have suffered the same fate. The Jaffa ships are not strong enough, they have reluctantly agreed to allow teams to upgrade their ships with Ori-based weapons. They will also need new shielding, but I haven't heard anything about that. For now, SG teams are continuing to explore new planets and looking for the Gou'ald. PT teams are going to check old strongholds for signs of reoccupation." He checked his watch. "In about thirty minutes PT-1 will be going to the Kull homeworld Tartarus." His coffee pod was done. He took the first sip. "Homeworld Command suspects that the reason the Lucian Alliance hasn't been seen recently is due to the resurgence in Goa'uld activity. The Goa'uld have new staff weapons that can produce sonic and lightning attacks. They still use the typical staff. So you'll need to be prepared for it all. Do you have any other questions?"

Andrew also had no major symptoms save for his usual allergies that seemed to plague him no matter where he went. Though it was a relief to him to know he hadn't caught the flu just yet at least. He supposed there was a whole season for such an ailment, so it might just be a matter of time before he came down with something anyway.

Evelyn all the while took the General up on his offer for coffee, and held the warm mug neatly between her hands. The situation seemed a little more dire than she had first considered, although these developments were not surprising. It made sense that the PT teams were off to defend, reclaim, mind old hubs of Goa'uld activity. They were notorious creatures of habit in their centuries upon centuries of life.

"I will be prepared. You needn't worry General." Evelyn smiled, she stood once her coffee was finished and the two had resumed a general chit chat, sort of things discussed between old friends. She offered a salute before she left the office to return to the infirmary. Once there the last of the PT-1 crew had been screened and was cleared for duty. "Ward start coughing again?" Evie rolled her eyes and offered something of a laugh up in return, all too familiar with the routines of her colleagues. "Alright, you're all good to go. Try not to get killed." Evie waved her hand and signed off on the documents clearing them officially.

"Well, everything seems to check out." She said, after she was done checking everyone's mouths as well. "I'll clear you to depart. But don't take any chances if you suddenly start developing symptoms in the field. I wouldn't want you getting yourselves killed because you couldn't help sneezing when you should be hiding, or that you can't see straight because of a sudden, nasty headache."

She walked over to a cabinet and pulled out a pill bottle. "Andrew," She called, and tossed him the bottle. "For the allergies. Take two before you leave. And take another if it gets any worse. Just don't take any more than four today."

After that, she'd look around the infirmary to make sure everything was handled before heading off to the library. She did say she'd get Chris a book to read. Removing her gloves, but opting to keep the mask on , she headed down the corridor.

After the good doctor left Loyer went about his usual duties. During his calls with Destiny and Atlantis, they transmitted their shopping lists. He was looking over them. When reviewing reports, he found it more beneficial to dictate his thoughts and orders to Reuben Lane, his personal assistant. He didn't always give them to Reuben if there was nothing for Reuben to do. "Got most of this readily available. We will need to request...." He began dictating several items they would need to request the SGC to send them. He then emailed his dictation and the shopping lists to Reuben.

After getting a clean bill of health, Austin led Ward and Andrew to the armory to turn in any unapproved weapons and gear for this mission and to pick up the mission-approved gear the GDO, Kull armor, duel plasma repeaters, and kull disruptors. Once they had their gear they went to the locker room to change and store their uniform.

As they walked through the halls to the Gate Room in full Kull armor they got some dirty looks and quite a few guns pointed at them, after that Austin ordered them to remove their helmets until they were ready to step through the gate.

Once in the Gate Room Austin went to the DHD and began dialing Tarturus. "Helmets on and be prepared for the worst." She said a silent prayer just before she stepped through. Ward just before she stepped through took one last look just in case she didn't come back.

Evie waved as PT-1 departed the infirmary, bound off on their mission. She had resigned herself to preparing for a worsening situation. "Time for inventory..." Now that the new supplies had arrived, it would be best to get a handle on what they had, did not have, and following up with the flu patients. They would need to be ready at a moment's notice for a potential evacuation from the home worlds... It was something of a devastating thought. "Good luck." She whispered to no one in particular.

--

The kull armor was significant and weighty. Not only did it carry with it certain assumptions and perceptions, it was never failingly heavy. It was a wonder that anyone managed to move so swiftly as the kull in this set-up. But for the time being it would do the job and get them the entry that needed onto the planet. Thomas did not question it. Standing before the great Stargate once more, he donned his helmet as commanded.

"It never gets easier." He mouthed those words, offered up a small sigh though no one would be able to tell. Walking up to the event horizon he did as he always did, turned and looked back at the base he was leaving and stepped through. This was ritual shared by many of the members of both SG and PT teams. One never did truly know if they would return. It was a thought worth noting, but not dwelling on. A healthy optimism would carry them much further than a bad attitude.

Oki'na passed Evie right as she left the infirmary on her way to the library. She stopped only just long enough to exchange some briefe words.
"Lunch at the commissary, right?" She asked as if to confirm, "I'll see you there. Oh, and I cleared PT-1."

And with that, she walked off to the library with purpose. She stepped in and began her search and found the series he had spoken of a few times before. Percy Jackson.

Hold on. Olympians? She skimmed through one of the books and found more mention of gods and deities. She rolled her eyes with a sigh. They already had the Goa-uld, and Asgaurd, the recently defeated Ori. Now these... Olympians?
Well, he seemed to enjoy it. Maybe he read it for the information gleaned from it?
She picked out a later book in the series and checked it out before beginning her walk back to the infirmary.

Austin was first through the Stargate. She knew several major incidents occurred here. The first was Jacob and Samantha Carter, Teal'c, and Bra'tac destroying the Queen birthing the Kulls. The second was the Rebel Jaffa conquering an abandoned planet. The base was as she suspected, it appeared to be still fully functional but powered down, at least the Gateroom appeared that way.. "It looks abandoned but be careful. Remember in this armor we are nearly invincible. Don't fire on anyone or anything unless fired upon first."

The base was huge. Capable of fielding thousands of Kull warriors plus support staff. Their best bet was to split up, if not for the Kull armor she would never suggest such a tactic, especially with just three people. "I am only suggesting this because of the Kull armor, I think it is time to split up. It'll go much faster. Report whatever you find over the radio. Remember we are using throat mics, just press the button and talk as if we are in the same room."

Austin looked around "We don't exactly have a map of this place. Ward you should be able to find their computers that way. Based on other bases and what Lt. Colonel Carter and the others reported during their mission." She signaled for Ward to go to the left. "Andrew I believe the birthing facility is that way." She signaled for Andrew to take the right. "I'm going to go find something to blow this place up, they have to have an armory or munitions for the automated space defense weapons the Jaffa destroyed. Somewhere." She proceeded straight down the center.

Ward was looking forward to digging through the computers. She planned to download the schematics for those automated space defense weapons. Why Stargate Command or Homeworld Command never came back for them was beyond her. She always assumed it was due to the Jaffa being the ones to conquer it, but she didn't really consider an abandoned planet capable of being conquered. In her opinion, it is like saying America conquered the moon because they planted the American flag there. She had a mini-computer stashed in her armor just for this. She custom-built this computer, it was a lot smaller and more powerful than the laptop SG teams always used on missions.

Austin wasn't given a clear reason why they couldn't bring explosives with them, orders were to use on-site explosives materials, she figured it had something to do with the Free Jaffa Nation. Probably supposed to look like an accident caused by the base being abandoned.

Airman Taylor Saunders began suffering from seizures. Tests on his blood sample came back revealing that the virus running amok in his system was completely new but had RNA which partially matched the Phoenix flu and the flu found on Earth.

The Kull were creations of their masters, but more precisely they were abominations to Andrew. They were hollow shells grown and genetically manipulated to be the strongest of the strongest warriors. But even he remembered, or had read from the reports submitted by Sam. Selmak had noted that the cost of great strength was a rather limited life span, noting that the Kull were prone to multi system organ failure and fatal cardiac arrests. Not even the healing properties of a Goa'uld symbiote would be enough to sustain their lives for an extended period of time.

The Kull were grown in a lab, and given life with an ancient healing device... The thought gave Andrew a bit of a shudder. But he did as instructed and proceeded to move toward the birthing chamber, which was more accurately a laboratory where these creatures were grown. Their pale white flesh and eyes were haunting, there must have been hundreds of them, each in a large tube or container. There were faint sounds of machinery whirring and computers calculating, doing their best to keep these specimens viable. Though the plan was to destroy the facility and thereby rendering it permanently inoperable, Andrew felt a twinge of sadness. It was not ending a life, no, as no life had been given to these husks yet, but it was still a creation, a marvel of science and now it would be rendered useless, destroyed.

Andrew approached the central terminal, when he did so the Goa'uld technology came to life, a reminder that it was not that long ago this place was used, probably shockingly recent. Though he noted a good number of the tubes had been either broken, or seemingly turned rancid by the rapid decay of the former inhabitant. Retrieving his standard issue laptop, he began the interface with the Goa'uld computers, and quickly began to download the logs and medical data therein. Frankly, Goa'uld wasn't entirely that complicated, and he had an excellent teacher.

Evie confirmed the details with Oki'na who was headed to the library. Just as began to settle in at the infirmary, Saunders began to seize rather violently. She jumped into action and with the help of the nursing staff, was able to turn Saunders onto their side. An assortment of syringes began to be handed to her, and without wasting a single second she jabbed on into Saunders, and watched as the seizure slowly began to subside.

"Get me the Airman's latest labs please. And then let's get new samples." Saunders at this point was unconscious, and highly febrile. With mask donned, and gloves on, Evie sighed deeply. The pulse was fading quickly. "Not today Saunders, you are not going to die today." Evie repeated, donning the stethoscope and taking a listen to his chest. "Free fluid build up." Another sigh. His condition was rapidly deteriorating.

"Let's get Saunders intubated, on the vent." This would give Evie time to read the reports, and the latest blood work when it was brought to her.

The results were not what she expected. "A new strain... fantastic."

Oki'na returns to the infirmary and immediately notices that there was recently more chaos. Quickly, she passes off the book to Chris before going off to find Evelyn in her office.

"What happened?" Oki'na asked as she walked in, sounding a little worried, "We didn't lose anyone, did we?"

If they had lost anyone, she might be able to bring them back with the ritual if they acted quickly. She just hoped it didn't have to come to that.

Evie looked distressed, concerned. It was a challenging event. One that should have not happened, and for that she blamed herself. Pouring over the blood work and other reports, she analyzed what they knew about this new strain. It wasn't particularly pleasant. The worst of the Phoenix bug, and the worst of what seemed to be the typical Earth flu. They were dancing together in some macabre way. The doctor looked up as Oki'na entered her office.

"Not yet." Evie responded with a faint smile. Thankfully for the moment they had managed to barely stabilize Saunders. "Saunders is now on a vent, medically induced coma." To make sure there was no fighting against the machine which would perform the essential function of breathing. "Won't last long at this rate... another few hours if there aren't improvements." Evie sighed deeply, it was not the news she wanted to give.

"We need to re-do everyone's blood work. It's a new strain and we need to confirm if everyone has it... if so, we'll need to increase the meds, and the watches. If not, we'll need to separate those with the new strain, so they don't re-infect the others." That was all they needed, further mutation.

Austin was going down the eerily creepy silent hallway. She seen movies like this. An axe murderer usually pops around the corner at some point. She really hated this place. She saw a shadow, the shadow was huge and moved. She couldn’t tell what it was based on the shadow. She readied her weapon and almost obliterated a mouse like creature. She really wished she hadn’t ordered them to split up at the moment, she also was really glad no one saw her almost obliterate the mouse. She turned the corner and what she saw and smelled was absolutely disgusting. “There are dead Kull corpses here, animals have been eating on them. Not so much anymore since the flesh is all rotten now. Just watch out one of the Kull snakeheads might have jumped ship from the Kull body to the animal. Wouldn’t be the first time. I don’t think it would be likely but best to keep on your guard. Also watch out for the smell, it is by far worse than a normal rotting corpse.” She turned the corner and finally found the armory. She was highly disappointed. “No joy on the armory, nothing left here. Seeing what else I can find. Ward, Andrew report in.”

Ward got the lights on just as Andrew entered the birthing chamber. She began downloading the data she wanted. While it downloaded she pulled up the floor plan for the base. She was going through the floor plan looking for anything useful when Austin wanted a sitrep. “Got the computers going downloading some weapon schematics and got the floor plan pulled up. I see both of you. If you go up two floors and basically retrace your route back there is a room listed as being for resupplying the orbital weapons, if the orbital weapons function in the same way as the staff weapons we can cause one heck of a boom, no telling what might or might not be there. Also have a cargo bay there might be ships there to overload that’s seven floors up from your current location. Good news there is a ring platform in the orbital weapons munition room and the cargo bay.”

In orbit a Ha'tak ship appears. A dozen Jaffa warriors ring in to the base in the cargo bay. Ward saw the ring activates on the monitor. “Someone just ringed into the cargo bay.”

"I've always wanted company." Andrew spoke quietly and sighed, he was hoping to do this with as few casualties as possible, though now it seemed unavoidable, either through direct combat or death via the destruction of the base itself. Andrew turned to move quickly an maneuver the two floors up to where the weapons resupply was located. At least from there he might be able to get to the cargo bay, but that seemed too risky. One thing at a time. The orbital defense weapons on a facility like this were absolutely massive, and quite numerous. There was certainly the potential for a significant amount of damage.

But - the question had remained, who was on board now? What were they after? Running into them, if they weren't particularly friendly was not exactly a welcome thought. But that was a problem for another time. But he remained in position and continued work on the task at hand within the chamber. At the very least, it would take time for who, or whatever it was to get from one location to the next.

"Bloody hell," Oki'na said under her breath "We'll probably want to test everyone, since we might not be entirely sure of the gestation rate of this thing."

She rubbed the bridge of her nose, a gesture of some frustration or irritation that she had learned from the humans. It seemed the universe itself woke up and decided it didn't particularly like the Phoenix Site. She'd only been here for a year, and sure there were some ups and downs, but did it really always have to be like this?

"Do we already have people taking samples?" She asked with a little bit of exasperation.

Austin was on her way to the orbital weapons resupply room when Ward said someone ringed in. “Alright everyone regroup at the armory. Ward bring your computer and the floor plan.” Austin made her way back to the armory.

Ward’s download finished. She grabbed her computer and went to the armory.

Once everyone arrived she addressed the situation. “More than likely whoever is here is Jaffa, unless there is a fourth group at work we don’t know about. Now the question remains if they are Jaffa are we creating a diplomatic incident or are we encountering the ones with the new System Lords. With the Kull armor both groups are more than likely to shoot us on site. Just remember with standard staff weapons they can’t hurt us. The new staff weapons dubbed lightning and thunder who knows. If we encounter those be careful and try to acquire at least one of each. R&D want to look at them.”

Ward pulled up the floor plan. “If we go up one floor higher there is a room that overlooks the cargo bay and we can observe them.” Austin examined the floor plan. She liked Ward’s idea but had another idea. “Andrew and Ward go and observe only. Fire only if absolutely necessary and be sure to watch out for what anything that can explode, we may need to save it to destroy the base. Also keep in mind these weapons are leas accurate than a staff weapon, the farther you are the more likely you are to miss the target. I’ll go to the orbital weapons resupply room. If they plan to go there I don’t want them to have free reign of the place.” Austin was kind of hoping these Jaffa were with the new System Lords, she wasn’t really in the mood to do some diplomatic ass kissing.

“Before we split up Andrew do you have any suggestions?”

“Unscheduled offworld activation.” Erupted from the speakers, as the gate spun, chevrons locking into place. With a whoosh the event horizon rushed into the room and the shield shimmered into place. The Officer of the Watch moved to stand behind the airman manning the shield console. She rekeyed an inquiry and frowned. The OoW glanced at the screen over the airmen’s shoulder. “Is there a problem?”

The airmen jumped in surprise, her concentration on the screen before her. “I’m not sure sir.”
The officer motioned for her to elaborate. “The system says the IDC is good, but there is no user identity listed.”

“Security to the Embarkation Room ,” The officer spoke into the mic near the airmen, then turned his attention back to her. “Run it again, if the computer still says it’s good send the ok.”

Armed troops surged into the gate room, their weapons trained on the shimmering gate. Just as the last guard fell into position the shield on the stargate fell. Thirty seconds later the first travelers arrived.

They stepped out of the gate in sync, marching smoothly forward until all six armored Jaffa had arrived. They came to a stop in the middle of the ramp, their staves held perfectly upright. Each Jaffa has a different helmet. Five of the warriors stood in a circle around the sixth. The centered Jaffa begins barking orders in Goa’uld, their clawed hand making motions as they spoke.

The other five Jaffa clear the area in front of the one giving instructions. The cat head rotates scanning the room before studying the highest ranking guard present. Their hand extends a finger, the claws having retracted. “Please notify your Major General Loyer that I would like to speak with him.” Their robotic voice requested.

When the alarms went off signaling off-world activation Loyer started making his way to the control room. Loyer knew the shield would hold as long as someone didn't have Kull armor. If they did they were screwed. He would have preferred a physical shield. He may insist upon it with the next year's budget.

Upon arrival, someone started to say something about Jaffa. He silenced them with a hand gesture. He could already see the arrivals. "This is going to be a long day." He rubbed his temples. Loyer made his way to the embarkation room.

"Everyone stand down." He approached the one clearly in charge cautiously. He made sure to keep his hands visible at all times. "I am Major General Loyer. Should we take this to the conference room?"

”Jaffa Kreel” The voice barked after the general had spoken. The other five Faffa stiffened. Slamming the butts of their Ma’Tok Staves against the rank and slamming a hand to their chest in salute. The robotic voice spoke again, the authority in it remained though the harshness was absent. ”After you, General” They stated while motioning him to lead the way.

Loyer took note that the Jaffa leader did not give her name. He escorted the Jaffa to the conference room. Once in the conference room, he walked over to the refreshment cart. “Would you like a glass of water before we start?”

The Bast Guard followed the general. Its head rotated taking in the conference room. A hand raised to tap below the ear. The helmet came apart smoothly, carefully designed interlocking plates folding neatly into the collar around a woman's neck. Her green eyes rest upon the general. "Please." Without the suit's modification her voice was accented, yet still touched by the familiar tinge of authority.

Loyer poured a glass of water for the Bast Guard and handed it to her. Then he poured a pack of BC powder into his glass of water. “So how can I help the Free Jaffa Nation?”

At his question, she reached into what resembled a courier pouch and withdrew a manila envelope. "I was told this would answer any questions our discussion does not answer. As all Jaffa are free now, so we are simply the Jaffa Nation."

Loyer took the envelope. "I wouldn't say all Jaffa are free, intel says some are working for the new Systems Lords. Could be human slaves in Jaffa armor." He recognized the handwriting right away. It was from Lieutenant General O'Neill. I bet O'Neill intentionally didn't warn me. Another one of his jokes. Loyer read through the orders.

"I have been sent here to assist with the Tau'Ri operations from this place, and to establish an.." She hesitated trying to remember the word. "Embassy here."

"We have several buildings in the town of Haven you can use for your embassy and housing. Almost every building was built for either housing or recreation. There are a few warehouses. At the time Haven was built embassies were not a consideration. You'll need to coordinate with the town council to register the inhabitants so they know what buildings are being occupied. The council can have someone show you around. If you don't mind me asking just how many Jaffa will be coming through? Will you also be needing an office on the base?"

”There are another fifteen warriors waiting on Bubastis, they are to escort the volunteers that will work in the embassy; Afterwards I’ve been told to release them to aid your operations however they are needed.” She stopped to take a short drink from the glass she was given. ”I’ve been assigned a second, one more dedicated to diplomacy. We’ll each have an aide, and there will be a handful of scribes for record-keeping and generation. Which reminds me that I will likely keep unassigned warriors guarding our embassy. State Security I think was the term one of your people used. AN office on base would likely be beneficial to all involved. Reduce the time it takes to get messengers back and forth.”

Her fingers clicked upon the glass she held as she considered her next statement. ”A few of those coming with me have asked to bring their families. And while I see how well the children can serve as runners, and the others can work as well. However given the… Intensity of the situation, I have decided to follow your recommendation as an answer.”

"I think it will be good show of faith for there to be an all-Jaffa team. Plus maybe a few spread out amongst the Phoenix exploration teams. I'll have my executive officer find you an office. While my executive officer looks for a suitable office why not begin looking for somewhere to call home and pick out your embassy? Unless there is more we need to discuss?"

”I believe that has covered every immediate issue. I will send for the rest of the embassy. It has been a pleasure, General.” She responded before turning back to the embarkation room.

Andrew and Ward went up to the room Ward mentioned. They studied the Jaffa (https://stargate.fandom.com/wiki/Crocodile_Guard). "Austin the Jaffa appear to be wearing crocodile-themed helmets. Based on Daniel Jackson's research they should be in the employee of Sobek but Sobek died in 2003. Someone must have taken his slaves for themselves."

Austin made it to the ammunition storage room and loaded up a surprise. "Are they clear of the rings?" Ward examined the area with the rings with her mini binoculars. "Two guards were loading something onto the ring platform." Austin activated the rings and then proceeded to fire upon the Jaffa as they materialized in the same room as her. Her surprise destroyed half of the cargo bay. "Finish off the survivors and collect their staves. Be careful the Kull armor should protect you from the lightning, the sonic blasts are another story. Stargate R&D wants to examine the Thunder & Lightning staves. We have no clue if they look any different than normal the Ma'Tok staff. I'll finish the primary objective."

After mopping up the last of the Jaffa. Andrew and Ward collected the staves and reported back to the Gateroom. Austin set several of the explosives to self-destruct. Based on what she learned for Daniel she set a timer of fifteen minutes give or take. She made her way back to the Gateroom with the two staves from her kills. She had Andrew dial the Gate and transmit the code, she also relayed an order to raise the shield as soon as she was through. She made it to the Gateroom just in time to feel the first explosion rock the compound. She picked up speed just as she dived through the Gate the whole base was engulfed in explosions. The Stargate shield was barely raised in time.

Austin picked herself up. "Gotta get a refresher on Goa'uld. That was nowhere near fifteen minutes." Loyer greated them upon their arrival. "Conference room for debriefing as soon as you change."

This new strain of the phoenix flue was hell.

After her talk with Evie, she went right to work trying to figure out how to better fight this thing.
She rubbed her temples as she stared at the bacteria through the microscope. This thing was giving her a headaches, and she was clean.

She took one of the several samples of anti-viral agents they managed to get their hands on and added it to the dish she was looking at to see what would happen, and sighed as she watched the stupidly resistant virus fight it off.

She walked away from it and went to the mess. She had to think, and sitting here staring at the bloody thing wasn't helping.

Stanley suppressed a shiver as he moved down the ramp. It wasn’t caused by the looks of jealousy, concern or paranoia he was receiving; however he wasn’t going to leave the weapons he’d personalized behind. The shiver was a subconscious thing, one that occurred every time he passed through the event horizon in the two years he was with SG-21. Consciously he knew the odds of something going wrong was something like a million to one. However he’d heard the rumors, and read the reports he had the classification for. He knew the various ways things could go wrong with Gate Travel; And everytime he stepped through the fear from his subconscious and his very conscious excitement for seeing new things created the shiver.

Ensign Rodgers moved down the ramp with the other new staff sent by earth. Unlike the others Stanley had donned his tactical gear. His weapons hung from the harness, allowing him the freedom to carry other things. His uniforms and civilian clothes were in the duffel in his left hand, while his right moved a hardened wheeled case. The sailor studied the embarkation room of his new command as he moved down the ramp. “Shiny.” He muttered to himself.

Rodgers followed the others through processing and moved into his room. The perks of being commissioned. he thought to himself as he began unpacking. He was told he’d receive his new assignment the following morning.

Ever since the discovery of the Phoenix flu doctors on Earth and Atlantis were looking into worst case scenarios. The Tau’ri flu and Phoenix flu merging was one of their first ideas they researched. They developed a number of potentional treatments for it. Dr. Carolyn Lam arrived the day after the first reported case. Dr. Lam arrived in sickbay she began talking to the medical staff about numerous potentional treatments and looking at test results. “Not nearly as bad as we were projecting.” Dr. Lam called Oki’na over.

The following day, General Loyer met with Dr. Koenig and Andrew Thomas. Homeworld Command was reassigning them to Atlantis. General Loyer then met with Dr. Anastasia Garcia who was being promoted to Chief Medical Officer, following that he had a meeting with Ensign Stanley Rodgers.

”Ensign Rodgers I’ve heard nothing but good things. One of our Phoenix Team-1 members recently transferred to Atlantis. I would like for you to take over his spot.”

Stanley blinked in surprise. He was expecting to end up on a team, just wasn’t expecting the flagship team. ”It’d be a privilege, sir.” Stanley responded. “When would I report to the team lead?”

“After my next meeting, the both of you can report to Colonel Austin together assuming the Jaffa liaison agrees. I have Colonel Austin scheduled to stop by after the meeting with the Jaffa liaison. You can wait in the conference room if you like. Do you have any other questions?”

”To be honest General, I usually have questions.” Rodgers smiled. ”However the current important ones the Colonel can answer. So with your permission.” The ensign stood and extended a hand to the General.

"In that case please wait in the conference room. Colonel Austin will be with you shortly."

After that was a meeting with D’nah. “Continuing the tradition of the Jaffa liaison being assigned to Team-1 I’d like for you to join Phoenix Team-1 as your duties as liaison allow.”

A reasonable request.” D’nah said with a nod. ”I expect that you wish for the team's current leader to maintain their position?”

“Colonel Austin is third in line for command of this base; it would be bad for morale to have her demoted on the team. I have designated PT-11 to be a Jaffa-only team, it’s a new team. They will get their assignments from either Homeworld Command through me, from me, or you based on the Jaffa Nation’s needs. Feel free to assign whoever you feel would best serve on the team. Do you or your people need anything?”

D’nah nodded as the general explained. ”I will put a list of recommendations for PT-11. Your staff has been most helpful in making sure my people are well taken care of. We have arranged a schedule for tretonin shipments. If something comes up that they can’t handle I will reach out to you.”

"In that case, Colonel Austin will be in the conference shortly. You'll find Ensign Rodgers waiting for Colonel Austin as well."

Colonel Austin received a brief briefing from the General before entering the conference room. "Good morning. The name is Colonel Cora Austin. I'm the leader of Phoenix Team-1. Before we get started tell me what you know of the intergalactic shitstorm we currently find ourselves in."

”My team was the first on site to Alpha.” Rodgers started. ”Recognized some of the carnage of staff blasts, a lack of…” The ensign threw a quick glance at the Jaffa Liaison. ” Formerly hostile corpses implied the attack came from Death Gliders or they’ve changed tactics.”

A small smile touched D’nah’s lips at the ensign’s hesitation, that was the only indication she picked up on it. “I was only recently made aware of the incidents at your off-world sites. However, there’s been talk about the Lucian Alliance for months. They stopped making planned meetings, they made excuses, then they stopped answering at all. It’s my understanding you experienced the same. Then your sites were attacked.”

"Indeed it is the System Lords’ Third Battle Group. What System Lords are in charge of the Third Battle Group we have no clue. Homeworld Command suspects they were minor System Lords who managed to stay off all our radars. The attacks on our off-world bases had traditional Ha'tak class cannon blast marks, they also had Ori cannon blast marks. Staff personnel had traditional staff blasts, they also had blasts that based on the sound from the recording the Systems Lord left behind have been dubbed Lightning and Thunder Staffs. Phoenix Teams are scouring old System Lord bases to see if any are being reused. When my team checked out the Kull production facilities we encountered and killed hostile Jaffa or at least people wearing Jaffa armor. The armor had crocodile-themed helmets belonging to Sobek who died in 2003. Last we heard Sobek's forces were absorbed by another System Lord and they joined the Free Jaffa Nation when it was formed. What that could mean we have no clue at the moment. The Kull production facilities have now been destroyed. Ensign Rodgers as someone who was there that discovered Alpha do you have anything to add? D'nah as their liaison, is there any intelligence the Jaffa Nation has given you permission to share?"

This flu was giving everyone trouble. But Dr. Lem was supposedly an expert in virology. As apposed to Oki'na, who was a medic. Not really usless in this situation, only just less skilled. She trained how to take care of injuries in the field.
Maybe she should request to accompany a team on one of the next away missions once they got this bloody flu settled.

Dr. Lam had never seen an Aturen before she made sure to learn that person's name before she arrived. They were mostly reclusive and had very little interest in participating in intergalactic affairs. "Oki'na please show me to Airman Taylor Saunders. I want to run further tests on his blood from freshly taken samples and to track the progress of the flu." Suddenly alarms were going off on Airman Saunders machines. Dr. Lam raced over and began assessing the situation. After several hours of trying, she called it. "Time of death..." She looked at the clock on the wall. "0949"

Dr. Lam slammed her fist on the table. Dr. Lam ordered Airman Saunders' body to be stored until a full autopsy could be done. She turned to Oki'na. "Which patient with the combined flu is doing the worst now?" Dr. Lam took a tissue to her face shield to clean it off.

”Not particularly.” The ensign started with a shrug. ”The drastic change in tactics is really the big thing that stands out. I suspect that the corpse removal was less a fear tactic and more operational security.” He leaned back, his hands palm up.

D’Nah nodded as Rodgers spoke. When he wrapped up she shook her head. “We can only offer guesses at this point and there are a number of them. The use of lightning staffs reduces that further.” She drummed her clawed fingertips on the table as she thought. ”There are thr- Four who to my knowledge haven’t been seen in a while. Illapa, who other than a preference for lightning was also known for their preference for metallic clothing. Raijin, who was last known to still prefer Unas hosts. And there were Astrape and Bronte, Zeus’s favored generals who used twins as hosts. They are an unusual pair as they are known to work together as if one.” The Jaffa added to explain her hesitation on the number.

Cora didn't like the idea of going up against a Goa'uld using a Unas host. "I'll have command here and on Earth look into those names and see if any of the big brains can come up with any ideas. As for the operational security being the reason for the removal of the bodies, I don't see the need for that unless there is something different about the Jaffa they are using. Even when they came up with the Kull warriors they left the dead behind. Which is one of the reasons we were able to come up with a way to defeat them. I nor any of those under my command on my last mission noticed anything different about the crocodile guard we fought. We didn't take time to examine the corpses though. The only thing I can think of is the Jaffa aren't actually Jaffa or at least not all of them are. Until we capture one alive or manage to secure the bodies there is nothing we can do but speculate. Unless there is anything else you like to add, let's go meet up with the only other member of our team, Captain Harper Ward."

Rodgers shook his head, and D'nah stood. "Lead on Colonel." The Ensign stood as the Colonel did, and the two followed her as she led on.

As Cora walked she used her phone to send an email to her CO with the names D'Nah mentioned. Cora knew there were only two places Harper would be at this time of day so she didn't bother asking her where she was at. Cora led the new recruits through the maze of hallways to Harper's lab. She knocked on the open door and stepped inside. Harper was hunched over a laptop running simulations. She was muttering to herself. Cora walked up to the laptop and slowly began closing it until Harper looked up. "Sorry Austin. Didn't hear you come in. How can I help?" Harper didn't stand or salute. "Don't worry about it. I came to introduce two new recruits to our team. This is Jaffa liaison D'nah and Ensign Stanley Rogers." Now talking to the new recruits. "This is Captain Harper Ward. This is her lab. Do not touch anything in here without permission. I had to learn that the hard way." Cora pointed to a scorch mark on the wall. "Nearly lost an arm." Cora rubbed her right arm where the scar from the wound was. Harper stood up and walked around her desk. "You wouldn't have lost the arm, you just have a good chunk blasted off and be out of commission for however long for it to heal, unless we had a Goa'uld healing device, then I could have healed it in a..." Harper snapped her fingers. "But if you hadn't messed with my experiment I wouldn't have noticed a critical and potentially catastrophic error. So it was worth it. But do as the good Colonel said best to not touch unless I say you can. Have you shown them the Pews? I tried them out this morning at the shooting range. I love it. I hear the MPs are going to start carrying them once they go into mass production. The stun setting would be ideal for them. Is there anything I can help you with or is this just show and tell?" Harper leaned against her desk. "If not I should get back to translating those schematics I downloaded yesterday. Still getting used to not having Eslain help with the translations." Then a light bulb went off. "D'nah you want to help me with translating this Goa'uld writing?"

Rogers moved around the lab, his eyes scanning the experiments as he listened to the discussion between the two established members of his new team. D’Nah watched the comradery with a bemused expression. Following the conversation she motioned to the computer when asked to help. "I am willing to make an attempt."

Cora went over to Rogers. "Let's leave them to Google Translate. I'll show you the weapon Captain Ward was talking about. Currently, the Projected Energy Weapon is being tested very limited number have been made; only the members of SG-1, AR-1, my team, and a few that went to Destiny are using them. Once they go into mass production they will most likely replace the standard sidearm in the Stargate program." Cora led Rogers to the shooting range. "Get used to this room. I require every member of my team to log a least an hour in here every week unless confined to bed by a doctor or in quarantine. After we try out the Projected Energy Weapon unless something comes up I'll take you to the town and get you registered for housing." Cora didn't need to go with Rogers she just liked visiting a certain someone who worked for the Council plus she liked traveling

Cora pulled up the printouts she made of the weapon schematics. "Just want to let you know up front we got these weapon schematics from Tartarus. We were there yesterday ensuring the new Goa'uld threat didn't bring back the Kull. While I was there I downloaded the schematics. I fully intend to share anything I learn with Jaffa Nation, assuming they don't already know it." Upon looking at the schematics D'Nah could see the translation had barely begun.
