Roger returned to studying, being careful to not fall asleep again. He even went as far as to stand up as he studied to prevent that from happening again. He didn't want to admit it in front of Maeva but now he was scared to fall asleep at night.
The afternoon came and he practiced the application of what he was learning with his teacher. Fortunately, something must have happened to make his teacher more personable and he was making huge gains in his skills in both creating new spells as well as the power behind each spell. Of course, he was worried that his black eyes would remain permanent after each of his lessons but he always checked his reflection and the black eyes always disappeared.

Maeva went back to training with the healer. She was still actively avoiding visions of her past, worried that they could make her unwanted flashbacks worse. Before going to lunch, she stopped in front of the door and turned around to face the healer. She had been in doubt about asking her about Roger's father for a bit, since her distrust towards her teacher was growing. But she saw no other option.
"Uhm... You know about Roger's biological father, right? He... He told me today that he came to him in a dream. How worried, exactly, should I be about that?"
-
The healer looked at Maeva when she asked her question. "So his father actually spoke with him? I would be concerned if Roger accepts any deal from him. But if he didn't, then you both will be quite safe here. No demon can enter this place without help. And I can tell you, no one here would help that particular demon."
-
She nodded, looking down. "Okay. He did offer him a deal but Roger promised me he'd never accept."
-
She nodded. "We'll keep a close eye on him then."
-
Maeva nodded back. "I'd appreciate that." With that, she stepped outside and waited at the foot of the stairs for Roger.
-
Roger was already waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs. He smiled. "Hey. No dreams so we're good there."
-
She smiled back and took his hand. "Good. I'm glad."
-
He grinned and kissed her hand before heading over to the cafeteria. "How did the rest of your morning go?"
-
She smiled. "It was all right. I asked the healer about your father. She said he shouldn't be able to cross over into this place without help, so that's a good thing."
