In this thread you will find rules and guidelines that will assist you in recruiting, creating, and rating threads as well as our general content rules! Please read these sections through before creating a RP in the Private 1x1 section.
Spoiler: How to RecruitIt is natural for friends to want to interact more often with each other than with strangers. But what should you do when you wish to play with other people and see the diverse styles of writing to be found here? As there are no sign-ups necessary for this style of roleplaying, the easiest method of recruitment is to ask a close friend from RPA to participate with you. The answer lies within the 'Private roleplay' forum – or more specifically the 'Request/Recruitment' sub-forum – where a number of members have noted their interest in one-on-one opportunities with others, be it through PM or taken to the appropriate sub-forum.
By looking at this sub-forum, you can see who would be willing to participate with you while giving information on their own styles and preferences in terms of genre, story, and characters. As they’ve posted their information here for all to see, don’t be afraid to send a Private Message their way as they may be waiting patiently for the opportunity. Unless stated otherwise you can also simply post in their request/recruitment thread.
This is a great way to meet new people and expand your list of friends and acquaintances here on the forum. Without interaction you’ll never know what kind of experiences you’re missing out on. Once you’ve got your partner you're ready to create your threads.

Spoiler: Recruitment RulesAll members of the RPA community are asked to contain your request to a singular thread. The creation of multiple requests for 1 x 1 or Private RPs are time consuming to manage. Multiple threads that are created by the same user will be recycled by the staff, or merged together into one singular thread.
Keep in mind that you have the ability to edit your own posts, so if your request is no longer valid or active, feel free to edit and update as you see fit. If you’d like your request thread recycled so you may create a new one, send your request to one of the RP moderators, who will get to it as soon as they can. We are more than happy to help you out
Remember that requesting a 1 x 1 outside of RPA is a no-no. We created RPA for you to RP right here!
Don’t post personal contact information like your outside email/im/yim/skype/etc… It’s not safe! You never know who could get it! This information will be removed immediately by the staff, and the thread may be locked and recycled.
One final note on that, every member of the site has the ability to see other members’ profile information. Posting it here, in an open forum can lead to more trouble than it’s worth as it is visible to the entire internet community.

It is first and foremost important to remember that the Private forum is a little different from the rest. In this forum, and this forum alone, you do not need to create an OOC thread for your RPs! Feel free to jump right into an IC.
It works the same as it does anywhere else after that. Select the subforum of your choice - Out of Character or In Character - click on “Post a New Thread” and begin from there!

If you would like to rate your RP something else, such as PG-13, please put that in your thread title of both IC and OOC.
Here’s a brief look at what PG-13 Means.
PG-13 – Parental guidance suggested for kids younger than 13. There can be mild language, violence, and sexuality. Depictions of graphic violence and acts of a sexual nature are prohibited, however references or "fade to black" scenes are okay.

Spoiler: Mature – Sex, Violence, Gore and MoreSo you've made a thread and you're not quite sure if it's worthy of a mature rating, or what is and isn't allowed. Hopefully this section will help you out. First let’s get through some awkward bits.
Pornographic and sexually explicit material are not to he sole intention of the RP. Offensive material as well as roleplays revolving around or involving rape, child pornography, animal cruelty, and blatantly insulting another country, belief, or religion, etc are to be treated with care. Please use common sense in this regard. If you feel offended at another writer’s piece of work, bring it up with the staff.
With that taken care of, just what falls under “Mature” anyway?
Excessive language, violence, and gore
Sexual, sensual, or situations otherwise too "physical" for other sections.
Things of this nature, use your imagination.
Mature RP's provide many excellent situations for people who have evolved in their writing abilities or want more than what is allowed in a normal game. But, as in any other section of the forum, there are rules to be followed. Let's talk more in depth about what's allowed and how to handle it appropriately
Regardless of whether or not your RP will contain any or all of the following, it will be automatically rated M as stated several sections above if it is placed in the Private or Mature sections.
Excessive language applies to the extreme use of profanities, which should be used with care and not needlessly thrown around.
Excessive violence and gore includes the graphic depiction of violent or gory acts that might otherwise be glossed over in another section.
Now let’s talk about sex! Come on, we know you were waiting for it!

First of all, don't get your panties in a bunch. Roleplay Adventures allows for mature content in certain areas of the forum, and intimacy is a part of that content. If such things bother you then there are plenty of other places on RPA that are sex-free where you can still have a fun and fulfilling roleplaying experience.
Second of all, this is not a site for porn, cybering, or getting off on fetishes. Yes, there is a difference between allowing people to write sensually and allowing people to write erotically. While we are committed to allowing our members to express themselves, have free speech, stretch their creativity and all of that, we've got to have a few limits here and there.
What are these limits, you ask? Well let me tell you!
1. You may not have an RP dedicated only to sex. In other words, you need to have a central plot other than just getting it on.
2. Detailed writing about any sort of sex will only happen in the Mature and Private sections. That way if somebody's not cool with reading about it they can easily avoid roleplays that have such content without being offended or made uncomfortable.
3. Characters involved in sexual activity will be of age. RPA is based in the United States and our laws in much of this country say 18. Therefore, please do not describe sex for characters under the age of 18. This goes double for non-consentual sex. Nobody wants to read about the rape of a child. Don't even go there.
4. You will not be crude. Let me explain this a little more. The painting of the nude woman in Botticelli's Birth of Venus is artistic. A photo of a naked woman in a Hustler magazine is smut. “They are both beautiful women, so what's the difference?” The difference is the tone and feel of how they are presented.
Yes, we understand that this is very much open to interpretation, especially since everything we do here is through text. To assist in drawing the line between steamy and dirty, the staff have made a list of words that are off limits for use in roleplays when describing sex. Please note that these words are not banned from RPA completely, they just are not allowed to be used when writing sexual, sensual, or intimate scenes. Also note that these are not set in stone - we can choose to edit, modify, add to, or delete things from this list as we, the staff, see fit.

5. Also in the crude category: you may not describe sexual organs that are located between the legs in detail. Giving us an idea of what's happening is one thing but telling us exactly what every bump and curve looks like is quite another.

Things you totally can describe: breasts, nipples, butt, lips, tongue, hips, legs, fingers, hands, arms, belly buttons, etc
6. You may not describe actual penetration. This rule applies during oral sex, vaginal sex, anal sex, and digital sex
7. Let's talk about non-consensual sex. This subject is touchy and we understand that. However, it does and will come up in roleplays. That's okay as long as the writers of the characters have agreed to the act and are aware of what's happening. (In other words, don't god-mod rape). This sort of sex is the only kind we do not allow you to actually write through. You may describe the things that lead up to the event, and the character's thoughts and feelings after it. But you may not write about the actual rape itself.

Fade to black.
She wakes up in a hospital.
8. Now let's talk about fetishes. Hey, we're not going to judge you or your characters if they're going to do more than just standard sex, as long as its within reason (see below). BUT the rules still apply. Write about it as you would any other sex scene using the above rules.
A few specifics:
Bestiality - RPA allows writing of humans with humanoid creatures. Human-like aliens, werewolves, cat-girls, mermaids, etc. Again, follow the rules. But don't post about a person and a dog, or anything like that. Please. Just don't.
Bondage - Be very careful about the line between kinky sex and non-consensual sex.
Fetishes that are not allowed - Things that involve: excrement in any way, children, rape (as a fetish), necrophilia.
9. Photos, drawings, cartoons, or other pictures of people getting it on is also a no-no.
As always, the staff is more than willing to help explain and/or give examples of how to properly write sexual scenes if there is anything you're unsure of. If you don't know if something's allowed, we would much rather you ask us through pm before just posting it and finding out the hard way that people are upset by it.
Don't forget that all general forum rules apply here as well. Here's a link if you need to freshen up on those.
If the staff feels that an RP that was previously posted in a general section contains too much mature content, we reserve the right to move it to the Mature section. Better than getting it shut down for not following the rules though, right? And don’t worry! We’ll leave a note saying that we moved it so your game’s members won’t get lost.
So there you have it! Not so bad, right? The Private/Mature RP's can offer a lot of freedom for some really great games and fantastic plots, as I'm sure many of you have already discovered. And don't forget, you can ask a member of the staff if you have any questions!
