Fragment of Draconia: The World
Welcome to Fragments of Draconia! A few quick announcements before we get into the thick of it here:
First and foremost I must mention that at the time of this posting, this RP has already reached peak player saturation at six players. We may open it up or recruit more in the future, but at least for the kickoff I’m going to keep it at six. ~If~ this is the coolest RP you’ve ever seen and you have some experience and you’re ready to see the commitment through and you’re willing to do some real-time interactions, then PM me and I’ll see if it could work out. Just know that the roster is currently full.
Second, I know that some of our players are new, so here is a short explanation of what is going on here. This is the out-of-character-thread, often referred to as the OC or OOC. This is where we host discussion about the RP, brew ideas, post information and descriptions of our characters, and so on. It is a separate entity from the in-character-thread, also known as the IC. The IC will be up once our characters are ready and our story will begin. Our first main focus will be on making character sheets. Abbreviated as CS, these will define everything about your character from appearance to abilities to history. These will be all that we have to go on for your character at first, so try to make it as detailed as possible. I shouldn’t need to tell anyone this, but none of your statistics or information should be too far out of reason. An elven oracle that sees the future is fine, but an elven oracle that sees the future and is immortal and can fly and dissipate into magic at will and has infinite mana takes it a bit too far. I withhold the right to adjust anything that is out of balance in that way.
Now, lets talk about the world! The name of the planet (loose and could be changed) is Urth. As you’ve read so far, the lore runs deep—but what really transpires on the surface of Urth? It turns out it’s quite an active place. There is a strong magical flow of all different kinds running through the lands, in the air, surrounding the entire planet, extending for leagues into the cosmos. Owing to workings that were put in place at the time of shifting by the masters, beings of all sorts are able to tap into these ripples of power in varying degree. This is the heart of magic in this world. Because this is a pretty open structure, there won’t be any harsh rules regarding your ability sets as long as they make sense, so choose wisely. Again, an example of something that might take this too far is an effigy that can control all the elements, shoot lightning from its fingertips, and reflects all damage dealt to it. That said, let’s take a look at how the character sheets should look with this template:

I’ll be posting our first character Sheet in the next post—Vulnaroth, the Void Dragon. Be forewarned, he is to be the strongest single character that we have in the first arc, so don't be too awe-stricken. He retains the right to be OP as the main enemy.
Now, to wrap up this post I have the very rough initial draft of the world map:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1czH...ew?usp=sharing
Side note pertaining to the map: Each confluence is intended to sit on a pole of the planet. This was a very rough draft and will look increasingly better as we move along, add locations, and redraw/detail the map. The next version of a map release will be with every characters’ starting locations included on the rough draft.
I’ve also included links to some key images that may help in creating your characters abilities/magical attributes. It is by no means required that you use these diagrams to define your characters, but I had them made for this so I figured I would throw out a link in case they could be useful.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6u...ew?usp=sharing
Your character is not required to have any magical affiliation if you don’t want that, but it would be advised for their well-being. And now the second diagram, which contains much more information:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6u...ew?usp=sharing
A small explanation of the second diagram: The upper left shows which magical archetypes are each others “opposite” or “other half”--basically how they match up based on their qualities. The upper right depicts the natural outcome of a fair clash between any one class of magic with any other one. The lower left shows how the magics naturally relate to each other, and thereby which combinations are the most reasonable. And finally, the lower right is a fractal of quadrants within quadrants that shows each different magical attribute’s potential measured in four different fields. We may reference this one later on also.
Whew, that was a lot! That about wraps up the welcome post for Fragments of Draconia! I’m excited to read what you all come up with and get the game rolling! Best of luck drafting!
Vulnaroth Character Sheet
Here is the character sheet for the great enemy that our more noble characters will hope to face down! This character will be controlled by me!
Name: Vulnaroth
Race: Pseudo ~ Dragon
Age: Vulnaroth is Incarnate from beyond time and is thusly beyond age. He was born in the dark confluence, but it is unclear whether he manifested with the recent surge or if he was within the dark confluence from the beginning.
Sex (if applicable): Not applicable. Vulnaroth was incarnated through warped and focused magics, and cannot procreate.
History: In the time and space before this one, Vulnaroth was a quiet existence with vast power and reach. Born of will as all dragons were, it roamed the cosmos and found a universe to make its own, where it established a small network of connections. In time this network came to host all kinds of life under the calm yet powerful watch of Vulnaroth. It was progressive and peaceful, but it all came to an end soon after the catastrophe of the corrupted elder dragons. All of the time-space that Vulnaroth had inhabited was sucked into the deep black of the void in the great loss of all that occurred. He was one of the few that had the breadth of spirit to retain form even when the structure of reality had faded. However, he was deeply affected by the incident. Vulnaroth’s will was reduced to the peak of his drive in his final moments before the great shifting--desire to retain form and to direct power from the source further into the structure of reality. This was when he had hoped to seal the ripped fabric of reality that was bringing about a swift end to all the elder dragon held dear. After that, whatever the elder dragon had been and stood for were gone, but even the deep reaches of the void could not erase his form from existence. This was the true birth of Vulnaroth. Aeons and infinities later, his energies would coalesce to form the void dragon that has risen to power in the current age.
Appearance/Important Items: I was able to find a nearly perfect picture for Vulnaroth, so that makes my job a little bit easier on this one. At the start of the story, Vulnaroth is already quite large—easily the size of hundreds of human men. His wingspan is around one hundred feet. His entire form is made of condensed void magic—an almost crystalline skin that is one big void spell constantly on the verge of casting itself and everything around it into the nothingness. This outer void layer constantly interacts with all of the raw power around, forming trails of toxic-looking purple and black energy. There are spines of void magic all around his body, and everything about his form is made to annihilate the enemy and absorb their magical energy. He uses no artifacts and has no companions. The single most important “thing” to Vulnaroth is the dark confluence, and that is because he is able to retreat into it as a sanctuary. Being in the dark confluence heals Vulnaroth if he is afflicted, and it grows his form and power as well. As he has risen to power, it is where he has resided almost exclusively. Vulnaroth’s size varies with his levels of power and has no limit in either direction.
Abilities/Magic Wielded: Vulnaroth’s very form is comprised of condensed void magic. The beast does not cast spells and does not have intelligence. The closest to a unique ability that Vulnaroth could wield would be using very large and powerful clumps of void magic or his own body to achieve a larger scale of effect. If necessary, he is able to dislodge or remove parts of his own body and use them as potent catalysts in a void reaction. As he is primarily a being of energy, Vulnaroth could move parts of his body even if they were separate from him physically, up to the point where they are destroyed, consumed, or dissipated. Vulnaroth’s body making direct contact with anything that lives will quickly drain the life energy from it, and he is also able to de-form for a brief time in small ways, such as shooting a tendril of his own body in order to drain the life from something. Even detached parts of the beast will retain all properties of the void as if they were still attached. He is able to fly, though not at great speed. As mentioned, his size changes with his level of power, and he can even become microscopically small without perishing. This means that he can recover from any attack that didn’t destroy him in the correct way, and if he grows too large he will likely be unstoppable. Because of all of these properties, the single best magic to oppose Vlunaroth in the world is force magic. If there were an archmage of substantial enough power, they could work with few others to bring about the end of the beast’s reign. But that would only be possible if they could battle the confluence as well...
Goals/Ambitions: Vulnaroth has few goals or ambitions as he lacks a true will or intelligence. His only drives are to retain his form and to transfer power to the void. The result of this is to emerge from the dark confluence and fight for magical energy whenever he is able. Heroes of the world have fought him on a few occasions, turning evil back when it threatens to destroy the beauty that has developed between each confluence. Some know of Vulnaroth’s existence, but most of this age have forgotten that there is an ancient threat still left unchecked.
Starting Point: Inside the dark confluence.
