CHAPTER ONE
A Beginning of a New War
The year 2240, humanity has started exploring the vast empty space, discovering new worlds and species. Creating peaceful alliances with new cultures with advanced technology. Colonizing uninhabited planets with fertile lands, mining purposes, and scientific discovery. They created Nation of Systems, with united worlds for a better and safe galaxy…or so they thought.
The Golden Dominion, a vast nation that controlled thousands of planets, very protective of their territory, very controlling of their slave network and ruling with an iron fist. Lead by hundreds of Elven Nations but only truly ruled by one; The Aeltharyn Clan. A sanctuary of silken storms that cradles chaos. The Golden Dominion Leader; King Vulmon Aeltharyn. A proud ruler with an optimistic mind.
When the two worlds have met each other on a neutral moon, a moot for negotiations, hoping for a chance at peace, group of council representatives of the Nation of Systems and King Vulmon with his Council Advisors. The King had hoped to become part of this alliance, however; one of his Advisors was furious of a certain planet that was being inhabited by Terra Colonies. Claiming the planet was one of theirs. The Representatives explained they did not know it was controlled by the Dominion and when confronted with lies by another Council, the meeting had turned into an argumentative event.
Blinded by accusations and raised voices among each other. A gunshot echoed in the room; the group fell silent as they witnessed a Terran Soldier with a weapon in his hand. Pointing directly at the King whom falls shortly to the ground. Terran Soldiers attempted to apprehend the assassin but was swift with speed and escaped the room. During their short intervention, Dominion Soldiers started firing their weapons in the room and in return, NOS Soldiers fired back. Both worlds leaving the room with blood and dead bodies. When the Aeltharyn returned to their world with their King wounded, King Vulmor had slipped into a coma stasis but healing after he was tended by his Healers. The remaining Council looked to the Royal Esquire of the King for guidance.
Marikoth, a member of the Clan Veilthorn. Rightly furious to see his friend laying on his bed near death, muttered soft words for the Council to hear. “Assemble the fleet…the time for war has come.”
Days passed, the N.O.S 4th Fleet was low in orbit of the new recent settlement that was argued with the Elves, trying to evacuate the people. Three warships remained at the vanguard as they noticed a Dominion fleet entered the system out of warp speed.
“Captain! We got six battleships and a Dreadnought coming up our bow!”
“Sir! Incoming fighters!”
The Battle ship Crimson of Fire, alarm system blaring off in the halls as the crew mustered their speed with haste to their battle stations. The captain watched as their enemies were getting closer, positioning themselves in battle formations, facing starboard side. He stood up from his seat and placed his arms behind his back, with a slow steady breath, his voice loud and clear as he begins his orders.
“All batteries open fire!”
All three warships started firing their main cannons at the enemy battleships, the smaller ordinances were used to aim at the smaller targets such as the fighters as they evaded. The captain watched as the enemy fighters were destroyed but not entirely. Elven fighters flew past the warships, the crew watched as they were chased by round after round.
“Captain! Those fighters are targeting the non-combatant boats!!!” One officer called out.
The captain quickly turned to his communications officer, “Advise the Spirit of the Horizon to send out it’s fighters and protect those civilians!!!”
Pilots scurried through the hanger bay as the flight deck personal checked each fighter before sending them off. Orders shouting everywhere, pilots checking their helmets and ship systems before launch. Fighter after fighter, launching from the carrier sides. Gathering in their team formations, heading straight into their targets line of fire.
“Viper Squad, sound off.” The Squad leader announced. Each fighter announced themselves one after another. A young pilot was breathing steadily but shaking. She felt the control rod in her hand vibrating from the hum of the engine. When it was her turn, she quickly announced herself. “Viper seven, ready to roll.”
She turned her visor on as they were getting closer. She heard her commander's voice, “Alright stay in formation until we open fire, then break off.” There was a pause. “Open fire!” She squeezed the trigger on the rod and the ships main gun weapons fired. The sound of heavy gunfire was muffled, she sees the enemy fire passing by, a few rounds hit her fighter but nothing was seriously damaged. “Break off!” The moment she heard those words, she moved to the left, banking around her target flanks.
Breathing heavily as she moved with the others. She stayed close to another squad member. “Viper seven to nine, I got your six!”
“Copy Viper seven, I got a lock on my target, firing missile!!!” The fighter was seen shooting a missile and hit’s his target. “Whooo! Hell yea!” The cheer was short as the squad member was destroyed by an elven missile leaving Viper seven on her own. “Ah shit!” She dodged the debris of her fallen comrade. She looked to the planet and sees the remaining rescue boats leaving the planet atmosphere. She also sees a few fighters making their way to them as well.
“This is Viper seven, I got eyes on the boats and I got eyes on two Elven fighters targeting them, going to intercept!”
“Viper three to seven, I’m on your six!”
The two N.O.S Fighters rushed quickly as they can, seeing one of the Elven fighters shooting at their unarmed targets. The young pilot rushed quickly behind the one who was not firing and quickly fires a missile. It was meant to scare the fighters to pull off and focus on them, it worked, the missile shoots past the Fighters and into space. The two Elven fighters immediately turned to engage their enemy. The young pilot watched the fighters as they made their move.
“Viper seven to three, trying to get a lock on the second target.” She stays behind the Elven fighter as it evades her targeting system. The young pilot moved the control rod swiftly as she can. Following the Elven fighter close to orbit of the planet, she could feel a strong pull coming from the planet. “What the hell?” She muttered to herself, “Viper seven to three, stay clear of the planet’s orbit, it feels like it’s trying to pull me whenever I get close.” She moved her fighter away but was ambushed by the other Elven fighter. She felt a hard shake and rattle sounds of gunfire on her ship, then there was an explosive sound. She quickly looked to the rear on her camera and sees electrical wires sparking and one of the engines sputtering. She breathes heavily, “Viper seven to three, I’m hit…uh…I see no significant damage other than one engine ready to go out.”
“Copy seven, I’ll try to veer them off and away.” Her communication link then started to static, “Get back to----and call----” She looks at her panel, “Seven to three, say again?” The static got worse and soon an alarm system went off. The core of her ship was reporting to be damaged. “Ah shit.” She muttered to herself. “Viper seven to three, my core is hit…I have to make an emergency landing on the planet, I won’t be able to make it back.” There was more static on the radio and her she sees a bright red color. It was one of the Elven fighters. It took a hard hit to the side and started spiraling to the planet. “—sev----copy?” She looked to see her squad mate, she could see him and the other fighter continued to fight against each other. She kept her grip on the control rod as the ship continued it ways the planet.
She flipped a switch on her communication link, “This Viper seven to…well anyone who can hear me. My core is damaged, I have one engine that is gone. I am making an emergency landing on the planet. I’ll set up a beacon soon as I am able…good luck everyone and God speed. Viper seven out.” She flipped the switch once more and takes a better control of her ship as it made its’ way to the atmosphere. She watches as the tip of her ship starts burning red and soon turns into a fireball. Minutes as she continues to fly towards the surface, she could feel the sweat dripping inside of her helmet. Looking at a certain device next to her leg, she reaches down and checks on the light. It was green, she gives a soft sigh. “This is Lieutenant Lauren Hawkins N.O.S fighter pilot of the three hundred and fifth division, seventh squad member of the Vipers. My core engine is badly damaged, one of my two engines is almost gone and I am making an emergency landing on the planet of where one of the N.O.S colonies had settled.” She checked her landing gears but it appeared they were damaged as well, there was a red light indicating of the situation and a display of her ship.
“Landing gear is damaged, I will be ditching my ship by seat ejection once I am at a proper height level.” She looked at her panel once more to see the altimeter spinning nonstop, it appeared the device was damaged as well. “Scratch the protocol, the altimeter appears to be malfunctioning, I’ll be ditching my ride now.” She reaches down and grabs the handle and pulls it hard. There was a sudden sound and nothing had happened, she gives another tug and still nothing happened. “Uh…Problem after another huh?” She chuckled softly. “Seat ejection is gone too, I'll be bracing for impact. If you find my body in the ship, please…tell…” She paused for a moment “…tell everyone I tried…. I’m sorry.” She kept her grip on the control rod, feeling the rough struggle of keeping the fighter leveled. The speed of her fighter was fight as it descended, looking at her window and sees the mountains were high, the forest was green and thick with trees and there was a river. She smiled with a soft sigh, “It’s beautiful.” The shaking snapped her out of the distraction and looks back at the panel.
She was breathing heavy and let’s go of the rod as the ship starts hitting tree branches. She grabbed the holsters strapped to her chest and held tight as she watches the branches smashing against the window. “Bracing for impact!” She yelled before a sudden jerk, the ship hits a large tree and crashes through smaller trees and hits the ground hard.
“Captain! All civilian boats are aboard the rescue cruisers and ready to warp back to N.O.S territories.”
The captain gives a gentle nod and returns to his seat as he watches his ship taking hits from the enemy. “Call all fighters back to their carriers and jump for warp, we’ll hold them off a bit longer for the cruisers to jump as well.” The captain said.
“Sir! Decks d20 through d29 are reporting hull breach, our shields are almost gone!”
“We’ll hold position a bit longer!” He yelled his order once more to his crew.
“Captain! Reports from Storm Flare, they’re taking heavy damage from the Dreadnought!”
The captain didn’t move as he heard the report, he watches the enemy firing position as they continued their volley. “Advised the lieutenant to fall back to N.O.S space grounds.” He was interrupted by another officer.
“Sir! We got incoming transmission from Phoenix Fury!”
“Patch it through!”
“Captain, this is Lieutenant Hayes, we’ll hold the enemies attack. I already ordered my crew to abandon ship, all I have is a handful who volunteered to stay aboard. Get back home safely captain and good luck…Lieutenant Hayes out.”
The captain was about to deny his order but the link was already cut off, he looked at the observation window and sees the battle cruiser making its advancement to the enemy. With cannons still firing. He also sees a large number of rescue boats leaving its bay. He sighs heavily and slams on a counter. “Dammit! Once those boats are aboard, make for a jump!” He ordered as he watched the battle cruiser was taking a majority of hits from the Elven warships and still fought back. “God speed Lieutenant.” He softly said. Several minutes later, the boats landed aboard the Crimson of Fire and soon after, jumped to warp for N.O.S territory. The Phoenix Fury however; was detonated from inside the ship, causing a nuclear like detonation. Wiping half of the Elven warships and damaged the Dreadnought, almost crippling it. They too, returned back to their home world shortly after the battle and with no doubt, celebrated for victory.
