12:00PM
It was an average day in Inkom, Caliornia. People hustled and bustled to wherever they needed to get to. Being a Saturday, there wasn't as much traffic for lunch hour, but there was still a moderate amount. Each person had their own story. Somewhere they had to go to that afternoon. Take Mr. Smith for example. At a glance, he seems like just an ordinary guy with an ordinary name. But up close, there is so much more. Not many people would think that this man had just been released from prison on false a sentence. But then again, when you are going somewhere, it's your story you are thinking about. Not a strangers.
Then there are people who look ordinary, but their story is much more intense. Like Brandon Trennen. Sure, he hasn't been in prison, and he might just be a college student, but it's more of what he will do in the future. He may look like the most ordinary fellow out there, but in the next week he will change the world. And for better or worse, it would happen because of his day-to-day business. Brandon was on his way to Al's Supermarket for some fresh produce for dinner, but he had no idea this visit would change his life forever.
As Brandon entered the store, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. He headed to the aisle where he could find some vegetables. He was looking at some onions when seven masked men in black entered the small building. Immediately they raised guns at everyone in the supermarket, yelling at people to get down. Two of the men went to the cashier, and the other five were rounding people up. One of them approached Brandon, pointing his gun right at his face, yelling at him to go join a group that was already being formed by other customers and store employees. Brandon didn't delay in following orders. He quickly made his way to the group, and in just a few moments, everyone but the manager was in the group. The two men that went to the cashier took him to the back.
Now all the employees and customers were in a group, with the remaining five men surrounding them. One of the men grabbed an employee and ordered him to show the way to the freezer. They headed off, and after a minute that felt like forever passed, they returned. The masked man ordered the other four to bring the group. No one made trouble because no one wanted to see what the men were willing to do to anyone that did. All of the customers and employees were locked into the freezer, without a single explanation as to why this was happening.
12:30PM
Right after the seven masked men entered Al's Supermarket, a pedestrian outside called the police, and now they were surrounding the building. Police Captain Aaron Paily, who was in charge of the police force surrounding the store was un-sure of what to do. He already tried to call the inside of the store, but there was no answer. He couldn't send his men in because he had no idea what the situation was like on the inside, and he didn't know what the criminals wanted. And on top of that, news reporters were starting to gather around, which didn't help. He needed a plan and he needed one soon.
Half an hour had passed since the customers and employees of Al's Supermarket were put into the freezer. Everyone was starting to get pretty cold. Well, everyone but Brandon. He didn't know why, but he just didn't feel cold. In fact, he felt comfortable. But as he looked at the people around him, the people that were shivering because of cold they were, it made him worry. He had never previously felt comfortable in really cold situations, but now he barely felt anything. What was happening to him?
Captain Paily was pacing back and forth. This was the first time criminals didn't demand something, and that worried him. Criminals always want soemthing. If it was money, they wouldn't be robbing a grocery store. If it was something else, they surely would have talked to the Captain on the phone. Just as Paily was about to call the Chief of Police, there was a gun shot from the store, and that was time to go in. He started running towards the door with his gun up, ordering his men to go in too.
Jason Trennen was sitting on the couch, watching the TV. Nothing interesting was on so he was watching the news. Suddenly, there was a breaking news report that Al's Supermarket was being held up by a group of unidentified men. "Brandon is in there!" Jason exclaimed, jumping up. His twin brother was in trouble, and he had to get there immediately. He ran for the door, but he tripped over an end table next to the couch. He fell and hit his head on the table, and the next thing he saw was darkness. When he woke up, he was laying down face first on the parking lot of Al's Supermarket, when he heard a gunshot, followed by Policemen running to the building.
Seeing that he was the only one who had any strenght, Brandon tried to get the door to the freezer open. After a failed attempt and using the handle, he started ramming at the door to try to bust it open, but that wasn't going too well either, and if he kept it up he would end up breaking his arm or something. Then out of nowhere, there was a single gunshot. Panicking, he tried ramming at the door a few more times, but he still couldn't do anything to it. Taking a breath, he readied himself to go one more time. He smashed into the door and it flung right open, landing him on two cops. The helped him up and brought him outside, as more cops came in to get the rest of the people out of the freezer.
Jason was so confused. A second ago he was in his apartment, and the next he was outside the place he needed to get to immediately. He couldn't worry about that though. A Policewoman was helping him up, asking him where he came from. He didn't answer. How could he? He had no idea how he was there. She noticed he was bleeding, and she tried to bring him to an ambulance, but he saw Brandon being led out of the building by two cops, and that was all that mattered. He ran to his brother, leaving the policewoman behind. The two cops tried to take Brandon to an ambulance, but he left them, insisting he was perfectly fine.
1:30PM
After everyone got out of the store, they were kept for an hour for check-ups and questions. The questions were basically useless though, since no one had seen anything really. The real question was, what was that gunshot? But the Police told everyone that it was nothing. Frankly though, Brandon didn't care. His friends and brother were waiting there for him, and he just wanted to go to them. And once he was finally released, he rushed towards them. "Finally they let you go!" Jason exclaimed, hugging his brother. "I'm glad you're okay." Luke, Brandon's best friend said. "We're all glad your good." Belinda said. Hearing her talk always lightened up Brandon's mood. Maybe it was her german accent, or maybe it was just how kind and caring she was. But Cordell just stared at Brandon. "You told the cops you didn't feel cold at all, right?" He finally asked. "Yeah but... why does that matter?" Brandon answered. "No reason. I just find it interesting." Interesting? No, it's weird, that's what it is. I was in there for thirty minutes and I felt nothing." "Well, today is jsut filled with mystery, isn't it?" Jason adds, as he thinks of how he suddenly appeared outside of the supermarket earlier.
