Default DND/TTRPG Homebrew or published setting? Or a mix of both?

I am a Gm of five years for mostly dnd 5e and i was wondering if anyone who also engages in worldbuilding/running games if you rather use published settings or use your own.
I mix and match what i like and created a somwhat balanced universe that both takes stuff from published stuff and homebrew stuff. I mainly made it for DnD 5e with Spelljammer and Historica Arcanum in mind but it has lore elements from World of Darkness, Cthulhu Mythos and other stuff.

    Tell me about yours please.

Hey Ra, and welcome! I'm actually in two ongoing campaigns, both homebrews. The rules are still based in 5E and still build characters in that structure, but the stories and the worlds are original for the most part. I'm just a player, but in one of the the DM and I discuss it quite a bit and he takes my/our ideas into consideration to create as much immersion as he can.

I tend to prefer original stories. It doesn't need to be 100% homebrewed, but even if you can get creative and think outside the box from the pre-made modules it all can be fun! Pre-made modules are fun tools to see how a new group interacts i feel like as well.

But it's all about balance and it sounds like you have seen great resources to combine!
