How’s this?
Spoiler: Skesh Frcrannok, pilot of the Black StarName: Skesh Frcrannok
Callsign: None yet
Age: 75 in Darsil years, 150 in Earth years, and the equivalent of about 25 for his species
Spoiler: Race: The HameeSpoiler: Home Planet: DarsilThe planet Darsil is the second circumbinary planet in a binary star system, revolving around both stars. Because of this extended orbit, Darsil’s revolutionary period is approximately double that of Earth’s. Despite their similarity in size, one star is a orange dwarf while the other is a yellow dwarf, resulting in visibly different suns. Roughly 1.15 times the size of Earth, two much smaller moons are caught in Darsil’s orbit. Darsil is a fairly wet world, dominated by vast green oceans and thick rainforests. However, in the not-so-distant past, Darsil underwent a massive climate shift, going from a hotter, drier planet to a somewhat cooler and much wetter climate. This change allowed the sentient species of Darsil to evolve into the space-faring civilization they are now.
Spoiler: Physical InformationThe Hamee stand 2 to 3 meters in height, rivaling the Endur’ayn in build. However, that is where the similarities end. A blend of avian and reptilian features, the Hamee are a far cry from the mammalian Endur’ayn. Standing on two digitigrade legs and two zygodactyl feet, the Hamee are capable of rotating their fourth toe back and forth. From the base of their spine hangs a long, prehensile tail tipped with a deadly blade. The Hamee possess two powerful arms built for brachiation. Like their feet, Hamee hands are made up of four digits, two pointing in one direction, one pointing the opposite, and one that can rotate in either direction.
Hamee heads are perched on long, flexible necks and can face in nearly any direction. A Hamee’s face is a smoothly sloped reptilian snout with a small, backwards curving horn at the tip. Inside their jaws, the Hamee have two rows of teeth and a long, forked tongue. The Hamee have three sets of two eyes each, two smaller sets on either side of the larger primary set. The first set can see into the infrared spectrum, while the primary eyes see mostly the same colors as human vision, and the final set can detect ultraviolet light. Their eyes all connect to the vision center in their thrice-segmented brain, forming a highly detailed picture.
The Hamee are covered in scaly skin, but also possess a protective pseudo-exoskeleton made of overlapping plates of thick scales. This pseudo-exoskeleton covers the chest, legs, arms, neck, head, and tail. Even the eyelids are armored. However, there are chinks in this armor. The armpits, crotch, and the underside of their jaw are all unprotected. There are also certain parts that are weaker, or points where it is easier to pierce, namely the elbows, popliteal fossa, and most of the face. The armor, except in these places, are resistant to most melee kinetic weapons, ranged kinetic weapons at a certain distance, low-grade flame, and even some acids. Chemically-fueled flames, most acids, and lasers will still pass through this armor without issue.
The Hamee internal structure is remarkably similar to humans, save for the skeleton and some organs. The skeletons of Hamee are flexible and light, more prone to bending than breaking. This leads to the Hamee being significantly lighter than races of similar stature such as the Endur’ayn. One structure of note is the gastralia, a set of “abdominal ribs” that connect to the abdominal muscles and provide support. In addition to the gastralia, the Hamee possess a four-chambered heart, three lungs, and an egg-laying reproductive cycle. Because of their four-chambered heart and third lung, their circulatory system is incredibly efficient. An injured Hamee will also automatically shut off blood flow to a heavy injury, allowing them to survive more grievous wounds, including the loss of one or multiple limbs. Hamee live about 300 years on average, though some can live to be 400.
Appearance: Skesh resembles other Hamee, standing 2.75 meters tall and weighing almost 375 pounds. His armor and scales are mottled green, with dark stripes along his neck, back, and tail. His eyes are bright orange-yellow. His left arm is replaced with a white cybernetic prosthetic. His left shoulder, and the left side of his neck and back are withered and pale, which any spacer would recognize as vacuum scarring. The prosthetic functions exactly the same as his organic arm once did, though it cannot replicate the sense of touch. Hidden inside the arm is a nine inch metal blade that can spring out of his palm on command.
Skesh will often wear dark grey pants, a simple lighter grey shirt, a red scarf, and a black vest with several pockets. A holster on each leg holds hand-held blasters. He also keeps a knife within easy reach slightly above his tail.
Spoiler: BackgroundHatched to Klla and Kovch Frcrannok, Skesh lived the first 25 years of his life on Darsil. The third of his clutch and seventh-hatched child, Skesh lived an enjoyable but entirely mundane childhood. Skesh had little purpose in life, but plenty of ambition. His uncle suggested he enroll in the Royal Astronomical Academy. Enamored with the idea of exploring the galaxy and discovering new worlds, Skesh took to the Academy like a fish to water. Upon graduation, he signed aboard a merchant vessel bound for UFP space. For two decades he worked on various ships in various positions, learning the skills of the trade. From piloting to engine work, he mastered them all.
He was on a ship bound for the Sovereign Systems when they passed through the Sol system. A routine atmospheric refueling and a solar recharge, dipping through the outermost layer of atmosphere of the largest gas giant in the system. Before they could regain FTL speed, they were ambushed by a pirate frigate. The pirates rammed the deflector-shield using ship, opening a huge gash in the ship. Forced to seal the passageways and redirect all power to life support, the ship was dead in the void. Unfortunately for Skesh, the engine room became a prison. In the rapid depressurization, he had been yanked into the gash in the hull. The hole was small, small enough for part of his body to seal it. His arm, shoulder, and neck were pressed to the break, and Skesh became one of the few people to feel vacuum and live. It was his heart that saved him, diverting blood flow from the mangled limb and slowing his metabolism.
When the pirates found him, they had a good laugh at his expense. They considered pushing him the rest of the way through, or tying a cable to him and pulling him out, just to let him get sucked back in. Skesh, who had been lying there in agony for what felt like decades, snagged one of the pirates’ legs with his tail. Unfazed with his weak display, they bound and gagged him and tugged him out, dragging him through the ship. They took him as a slave, forcing him to work their own engines. Over time, they began to treat him less like property and more like an actual crew member. He was given a modified robot’s arm as a replacement, which he immediately began to upgrade. He gained a bit of renown as a pirate, the towering reptilian with the pale metal arm. The thing about pirates, though, is that they run the risk of getting caught.
It was a sting operation by the Hegemony. They shadowed a SoSys freighter, heavy with fine goods and material wealth from dozens of worlds. It seemed easy pickings for the pirates. When the pirates couldn’t resist the bait, the trap was sprung. Again, Skesh was on a sinking vessel. He wouldn’t go down without a fight, however. When the Heg soldiers came for him, he fought them off as best he could. Still, he was taken captive again. He was the lowest rank on the ship, again. He was given prison time, then released on a Hegemony colony world. He toiled for years in a field, a mine, a factory. Dissatisfied with his life, he stole a frigate with a crew of similarly dissatisfied people, escaping into the Sol System. Scrapping the ship and selling it for parts, each walked away a little bit richer. Using his share, Skesh purchased an old Peregrine craft. Taking odd jobs to pay for fuel and upgrade it, he’s made good headway into making it a truly formidable fighter. Now he’s heard of a man in need of a few good pilots, offering good pay and stable work.
