Hello people of RPA!
My name is Naming. At the time of writing this I am currently 26 years of age, living in Australia, and have been both writing and roleplaying for approximately 11 years or so, give or take a couple of months. I have no intentions of stopping any time soon, either. I’m almost always on the lookout for new characters, plots, ideas, and partners to help feed my addiction!
I have multiple private roleplays going at the moment, and anyone interested in writing with me is more than welcome to check them out to get a handle on my usual method of doing things. This one in particular is the one I’m proudest of at the moment. I try to respond to each of my partners within a week at the latest, and do my best to inform them if I’m expecting any sort of delay. I am open to partners and characters of any identity, sexuality, or race, and appreciate more creative plots, worlds, and character designs.
If you’ve gotten this far and are still interested in writing with me, then I’ll list all the specifics below.
Spoiler: Rules1. Literacy. I consider myself somewhere on the line between moderate and advanced in terms of writing skill, and I tend to appreciate partners of a similar skill level. Those who can excite me with their writing and push me to do my best, without being so far above me that replying feels intimidating. The occasional mistake is alright, but I expect decent spelling and grammar from my partners.
2. Post length. Personally, I aim for a minimum of at least three full paragraphs every time I post, and have been known to write multiple pages when feeling particularly inspired, if the situation within the story allows for it. In turn, I expect a bare minimum of three paragraphs from my partners every post.
3. Creativity. I’m an absolute sucker for world-building, unique characters, and memorable plots. I want to work on building something together with my partner, and I expect both players to actively contribute creating and progressing the story. If one of us is doing all the work and the other player just ‘along for the ride’ then I’m probably not going to enjoy myself.
4. Communication. I’m the sort of person who loves to talk with my partners outside of the roleplay. Whether it be idle chatting, further planning for our story, or just idle musings about the world and characters, I’m always happy to talk. I try and become proper friends with all of my writing buddies, but I expect to be exchanging messages to discuss how the story is progressing on a semi-regular basis with my partners at the very least.
Along similar lines, if there is anything about our story you find unsatisfying, please don’t hesitate to tell me. I promise that I’m not going to get upset or offended by your honesty. I’d rather know about the problem so that I can try to fix it, rather than it going unspoken and eventually ruining the experience as a whole for my partner. Communication is key and all that jazz.
5. Activity. Generally speaking, if our story goes a full month without me getting a reply, then I’m going to consider it dead. I’ve already stated that I try and reply to my partners at least once a week, and whilst I’m not as strict in my expectations of my partners, if things remain stagnant for too long then I’m probably going to start losing interest.
That said, I tend to be very understanding with my partners so long as they are open about these things. If you give me advance notice that your reply is going to be late, for any reason, then I’m totally happy to wait much longer than a month. So long as I have some idea as to what I can expect, then I tend to be extremely patient.
It probably goes without saying, but if you intend on dropping our roleplay, I’d really prefer that you let me know, too. Again, I’m more likely to appreciate your honesty than I am to get upset. Knowing that my partner won’t be returning is much easier for me to cope with than the uncertainty of not knowing at all.
Spoiler: Interests
Things I like:
High Fantasy
Medieval Fantasy
Modern Fantasy
Action
Adventure
Romance
Hurt/comfort
Unique worlds and characters
Things I dislike:
Sci-fi
Slice of life
Romance as the main story
Dice games
Crossovers
Time travel
Please note that the things I dislike aren’t necessarily immediate refusals. I can be convinced to try them, provided that I find the concept interesting enough to warrant an attempt. Just be warned that I’m much less likely to accept a story based on these premises, and that I’m generally less experienced with them overall. Anything not outright listed here can be safely chalked up as a 'maybe'.
On the topic of fandoms:
First and foremost, I am open to the idea of playing in established universes. I’m not going to write out a list of ones I am interested in, because it would simply be much too large to be practical, but you’re more than welcome to ask if there are any in particular you favour. However, please note that strongly dislike either player using characters from the source material. I often get too worried about how in-character they are to truly enjoy the story itself.
Spoiler: List of current ideasBefore I go any further, let me start by saying that none of these plotlines are required for us to write together. If none of them suits your fancy, I'm totally happy to sit down and plan something out together from scratch. Similarly, I'm happy to adjust and change most of them to suit your tastes as well as my own.
Spoiler: High Fantasy. Chosen one X Seeker.Untold centuries ago, it was prophesied that a great evil would one day rise up, and threaten to consume the world. When it came, a chosen hero would rise up, sacred weapon in hand, and beat back the darkness. Most dismiss such stories as the stuff of myths and legends. Idle fantasy, written by the bored, and believed only by the foolish.
Not the house of Bellacrose.
For generations, its descendants have lived in quiet solitude, hidden away from the greater parts of the world. They have dedicated their lives to passing on knowledge of this prophecy, and protecting the house’s greatest treasure – the same weapon mentioned within. When signs of the apocalypse begin to manifest, but no hero rises up to claim the legendary weapon, one young member decides that she can wait no longer. If the hero will not come to her, then she will to go them. She takes up the chosen weapon and sets out on a journey to travel the world, determined to find the chosen hero herself, and help them save the world.
Imagine her surprise, then, when she finds that the hero isn’t some experienced mercenary, or a veteran soldier, but a commoner with no experience at arms whatsoever.
High Fantasy setting, with plenty of room for action, adventuring, and magic The type of weapon mentioned in the prophecy and the evil they have to overcome can be changed to suit the direction we want to take the story. I play the seeker. Pairing can be either romantic or platonic.
Spoiler: High Fantasy. Royal servant X OCIn this world, the royal family are the only ones who possess inherent magical power, which is how they maintain their rule. The current king takes in a young, orphaned child and raises them to serve as the king’s messenger. He gifts them with a blessed scarf that grants their new servant a small range of magical powers, to aid in their duties, but also shackles them to the royal family in more ways than the messenger initially realises.
The messenger is happy with their life, and grateful for everything the royal family has given them, until a chance encounter finds them making their first real friend. As the two spend more time together, the messenger begins to realise that perhaps they aren’t quite as free as they once thought. They suddenly find that they want more from life than a job as a glorified errand runner, and decide that they’re going to do whatever it takes to win their freedom, even if it costs them their magic. The king, however, won’t take kindly to such a slight…
More of a character I want to play than a full plot concept. You’re welcome to insert your character into the world anywhere you want, and we can build the story appropriately. I originally imagined it as a sort of coming-of-age or rebellion story, but again, I’m flexible. I play the messenger, and pairing can be either romantic or platonic.
Spoiler: Low Fantasy. Hunter X Lost PrincessSome two decades ago, the rebel family of Tenai was slaughtered during an uprising. A usurper now sits the throne, commanding all the authority and respect of the king he removed. With every passing day he cements his power further, and none dare challenge his rule. Not openly, at the very least.
Unknown to the rest of the world, one member of Tenai’s royal family survived that fated night. The royal family’s youngest daughter, barely older than a newborn at the time, escaped the genocide in the arms of a servant, who carried her out of the city and into the forest beyond. The servant died of her wounds not long after, and the baby princess was left in the forest alone, lost and presumed dead. In reality, she was taken in by the spirt of the forest, who nurtured and raised the lost child as one of its own.
In the present day, a hunter of great skill sets out into the woods, seeking the ultimate prize. A white stag has been glimpsed lurking within the forest – the stuff of legends made manifest, if the rumors are to be believed. Under instructions from the king himself, he seeks to claim the animal’s hide for his lord. He manages to successfully wound the animal, only to be amazed as it transforms into a human girl in front of his very eyes. The lost princess, now found.
Uncertain, the hunter takes her back to the city alive, and unwittingly sets into motion a chain of events that will lead to the lost princess discovering her birthright, and seeking to reclaim her rightful throne from the man who stole it.
Medieval fantasy setting with just a touch of magic. Can be romantic or platonic. I’m happy to play the princess or the hunter.
Spoiler: Medieval Fantasy. Knight X Princess. After a long period of peace, the kingdom of Cydonia finds itself on the verge of collapse when one of its allies breaks a long-standing peace treaty and attacks them unprovoked. As enemy forces march upon Cydonia’s capital, the king calls upon his most trusted knight, and requests that they whisk his only living daughter away to safety. Knight and princess reluctantly flee their homeland together, pursued by enemy forces, hoping to find asylum with one of their allies. Together, the two of them come up with a plan to gather support from other nations, with the goal of ending the war and retaking their homeland, despite the personal cost. Just what will they find when they return? Will they ever manage to liberate their people? Will they ever discover what became of their king, or why their allies decided to betray them?
Loosely inspired by the Fire Emblem series, but prior knowledge not required. Plenty of adventuring, political games, and action scenes. Magic can be included. Romantic pairing preferred, for all that sweet political drama around arranged marriages later on. I’m happy to play the princess or the knight.
Spoiler: Dark, modern setting. Experiment X Experiment.A secret government (or corporation) has been abducting people for years now. Hidden away inside a secret facility, they undertake horrible human experiments on their subjects, with the goal of giving them supernatural powers. Most subjects are killed in the process, and the few that survive are often left scarred and broken by the procedures. Fewer still actually develop any abilities, and those that do are studied for the remainders of their lives.
When presented with an unlikely opportunity, two of the experiments make the snap decision to band together and attempt an escape. With no resources and minimal knowledge, they must rely on each other and work together if they are to survive.
Probably the least developed of my current plots, but that means there’s a lot of extra flexibility when it comes to deciding how the story progresses! Give your character any sort of power you want, then set them loose on the world and see what happens. Can be romantic or platonic.
Spoiler: High Fantasy Setting. Dragonborn X HumanJust twenty years after humanity rose up and overthrew the oppressive and brutal dragon gods, the world is finally beginning to heal. The people who survived have begun to put down roots, building towns and planning for their new futures. But not everyone is ready to move on, and see the world enter this new age. A twisted half-breed still roams the land, seeking new purpose among a population that barely tolerates their existence. Ostracized by a world that despises anything and anyone touched by the divine, they wander from one place to the next, seeking out the resting places of humanity’s former masters. What will happen when circumstances force them into the company of another, and they finally find some semblance of belonging?
Less of a plot and more of a character that I really want to play. I already have a couple of ideas as to the half-breed’s identity and goals, but I’m fairly flexible with a lot of the specifics. I’d love a companion character who has their own goals that can be intertwined with mine, for better or worse. I’m imagining a high fantasy setting with a lot of traveling, action, magic, and maybe a few bonding moments. Romance preferred but not required.
Spoiler: Low Fantasy Setting. Dragon Rider x Dragon TrainerFor centuries, the royal family has had a monopoly on the business of dragon riding. They keep and breed their own draconic servants, using them to protect their empire from both internal and external threats. Wild dragons are driven off or killed, while invading armies and rebellions are destroyed with flame and claw. This long-standing monarchy is challenged when a common person finds a dragon egg in the wild and becomes the first free dragon rider in living memory. However, it quickly becomes apparent that they have no idea how to care for their newly hatched friend. For the good of their dragon, they decide to reach out to one of the royal family’s official breeders, begging them to help raise the dragon and keep their secret…
Think ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ sort of vibes but slightly to the left, with a more mature setting. I’m imagining a plot where the two main characters work hard to raise the baby dragon in secret, which progressively gets harder as the baby grows, until the royal family eventually learns of its existence. When they try and kill the new dragon and its rider to maintain their power, our characters are left scrambling to try and stop them. Low fantasy setting, with the possibility of romance.
In any case, if you still think you’d be interested in writing with me, I’d be happy to hear from you! Simply drop me a private message or respond in this thread and I’ll get back to you as soon as I am able. I’m totally happy to start planning our story from scratch, or look over your own ideas if you have them. Feel free to include a link to your own recruitment thread when you message me, too, if you feel so inclined.
I hope to hear from you soon!
