"Compared to politics, war is easy. At least in war, you know who your enemies are" - unknown
In the royal monarchy of Sinder - the kingdom of fire - every child of noble blood has some sort of elemental control over fire, be it as small as lighting a candle, or as large as creating and controlling infernos. Until, it is, that this princess is born. Unlike the rest of her bloodline, she is born without any natural abilities at all, and promptly cast away as unimportant. Over time, she becomes known as the 'princess of the people', though her family has no wish for her to marry or attempt to take the throne. Given her lack of powers, they aim simply to ignore her, and let her brother inheret the title instead.
Then, tragically, her brother dies, and suddenly the princess of the people finds herself the only surviving heir. So, after enduring years of neglect, her family must jump to find a man who will marry a woman that cannot give birth to an heir with power (or so they suspect). Enter a noble from the kingdom of Neve, kingdom of Ice. Historically, relations between these two countries has not been good, in no small part to their conflicting affinities. Now, the noble son third in line for Neve's throne has decided to look into this offer. At first, the marriage might seem as a chance for the two nations to settle their differences and forge a new alliance, but nothing in politics is ever that simple. Who knows what ulterior motives this newcomer might have, and what other schemes and plots are being set into motion behind the scenes?
